Tsunamis are considered one of the worst natural disasters because they cause immense damage and loss of life, and there is little that can be done to stop them. The largest tsunami on record was in Lituya Bay, Alaska in 1958, when an earthquake triggered a rock/ice fall that generated waves over 1,600 feet tall, destroying homes and killing thousands of people along the coast.
