4th hour group 4

  1. 1. By, Dakota, Truman, Brittany, Emma, Emily.
  2. 2.  An inactive volcano is called a dormant. An inactive volcano/dormant becomes active again when pressure builds up in the mantle, or when the plates open back up again  It would bring a lot of the world together to help. Everybody in the world would here about the eruption of the volcano. All the people on the big island would probably be devastated and depressed of there loss.
  3. 3.  The magma/lava would probably cover most of the island. The eruption would burn a lot of the trees and houses on the big island. The lava would spread into the water an make the island bigger.  To recover they would have to rebuild on the parts of the island that were not hit. Evacuate people from parts of the island that were not hit. Collect the items that survived the eruption.
  4. 4.  Erupted in Sunda Strait, Indonesia on August 27, 1883  Killed 36,000 people and destroyed 165 villages and destroyed 2/3 of the pre-existing island of Krakatoa  Ash fell on 840km north, 1155km SW, 6076km west- northwest  Could be heard 3,000 miles away  The ocean water had gotten into the volcano’s magmatic chambers through its rupturing walls leading to the formation of superheated steam
  5. 5.  It lasted 3 days long  The remaining island is named Rakata  Only a small islet remained in a basin covered by 900 feet  Buried under a thick layer of sterile ash/animal life did not begin to reestablish itself for 5 years  Volcano’s collapse triggered a series of tsunamis  Afterwards rebuilt villages
  6. 6.          Cabusilin Mountains, Luzon, Phillipines. Last eruption was June 15, 1991. It was dormant for 500 years before erupting in 1991. It is thought there was a much bigger eruption 35,000 years ago. Mount Pinatubo is an active stratovolcano . The volcano spewed a more than 1 cubic mile column of ash 22 miles The ash circled around the world and lowered the global temperature 1 degree for the next few years. One of the biggest eruptions of the 20th century. The island of Luzon went dark after the eruption.
  7. 7.  15.1417 N, 120.3500 E  The Aeta people , who lived on the slopes of the volcano were hit the hardest, and had to evacuate , when they came back the villages were destroyed and the government had to relocate them.  The eruption scored a 6 on the VEI (Volcano Explosively Index) meaning it was colossal, extremely large.  Over 700 people died and 100,000 made homeless
  8. 8.  The earthquake ruptured the north most 296 miles of San Francisco.  Its offset was 20 feet deep.  More than 3,000 people died, and more than 200,000 people were left homeless.  The earthquake affected 375,000 square feet.  It had a magnitude between 7.7 and 8.3.  It was caused by 2 plates hitting each other.
