• The relays detect the fault and supply the
information to the circuit breaker.
• When a failure occurs on any part of the
system, it must be quickly detected and
disconnected from the system.
• For high voltage circuits relays are employed
to serve the desired function of automatic
protective gear.
8. CURRENT TRANSFORMER
• a current transformer (CT) is an electric
device that produces an ac current in its
secondary which is propositional to the ac
current in its primary. When a current is
too high to measure directly or the voltage
of the circuit is too high a current
transformer can be used to provide an
isolated lower current in its secondary
9. CIRCUIT BREAKER
• Vacuum circuit breaker –A vacuum circuit
breaker is such kind of circuit breaker where
the arc quenching takes place vacuum .it is
suitable for medium voltage application
10. ISOLATOR
• In electrical engineering, a disconnector , disconnect
switch or isolator switch is used to ensure that an
electrical circuit is completely de-energized for service or
maintenance.
• High-voltage isolation switches are used in electrical
substations to allow isolation of apparatus such as circuit
breakers, transformers, and transmission lines, for
maintenance.
• Disconnector can be operated either manually or
automatically (motorized disconnector).
• Isolators are operated in OFF load condition.

12. LIGHTENING ARRESTER
Lightening arrester is the
instrument that are used in the
incoming feeder to prevent high
voltage entering the main
substation. This high voltage is
very dangerous used in the
substation. The instruments are
very costly so to prevent any
damage lightening arresters are
used.
13. INSULATOR
Insulator
Insulator is an element
which opposes the flow of
current or stops current. It
used extensively in
distribution & transmission.
It stops current to flow
through electrical poles
14. CAPACITOR BANK
• a capacitor bank is a grouping of several
identical capacitor interconnected in
parallel or in series with another as
required. For improving the power factor of
the system capacitor bank are used because
if power factor is low the value of current is
high and this is dangerous for the system so
improving of power factor is very necessary.
