3. • R.R.V.P.N.L stands for Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran
Nigam Ltd
• It is a company of Rajasthan State Electricity Board(RSEB)
established by government of Rajasthan.
• It has been entrusted with the job of development of power
projects under state sector.
• It serves the customers with the service of electricity
distribution.
4. G.S.S stands for Grid Sub Station.
A grid substation is where transmission voltages come to be stepped
up/stepped down in three phase transformers.
From here the new voltages go in toward wherever it is needed.
Substations also allow engineers to diagnose problems with the system and
perform diagnostics on the system itself (and the substation equipment).
Substations therefore are very important facets of national grid systems and
without them there would be no way to step down generation voltages to
safe levels for consumer use nor to step up voltages for transmission across
the nation.
7. A Bus Bar is a conducting bar(made up of conductors or group of conductors) that
carries heavy current by collecting it from the incoming feeders and then transmitting
or distributing it to the outgoing feeders, for supplying the electric circuits.
It is made up of Copper(Cu), Aluminium(Al).
The two different types of bus bars are: (a) Main Bus Bar (b) Auxillary Bus Bar
A Bus Bar System consists of different components like isolator and the circuit breaker.
8. • A Circuit Breaker is an automatically or manually operated electrical switch
designed to protect an electrical circuit from damage caused by overhead or
short circuit.
• A circuit breaker breaks the circuit automatically under fault conditions.
• The types of Circuit Breakers used in 132 KV GSS are: (a) SF6(Sulphur Hexa
Fluoride) Circuit Breaker (b) Vaccum Circuit Breaker
9. o An isolator isolates the devices from the live line, when there is a
maintenance on the field.
o It operates in no load condition.
o An isolator is also used to charge the bus bar line from main to reverse or
vice-versa.
10. Insulators are used to avoid current leakage to the earth through the supporting
structure provided to the conductor of overhead transmission line.
The insulators used in the substation are used so because they are appropriate for
different voltage levels.
It is arranged in a vertical position and protects transformers, switchgear and other
connecting devices.
The mechanical strength of insulators is strong.
11. Lightning Arrester is a protective device used to provide protection against
high voltage from lightning.
A Lightening Arrestor is also called a lightning isolator.
A Lightning Arrester has two terminals viz (a) a high voltage terminal (b) a
ground terminal.
It is used only for overhead line.
12. TRANSFORMER
A transformer is a static device which is used to transfer electric energy from
one electrical circuit to another electrical circuit by means of a common
magnetic circuit
Types Of Transformers used in GSS are:
• Power Transformer
• Current Transformer
• Potential Transformer
• Station Transformer
13. POWER TRANSFORMER
• A Power Transformer serves the purpose of stepping down the voltage and
transferring power from one A.C voltage to another A.C voltage at same
frequency.
• For this to happen two sets of insulated windings are wounded on a close
terminated steel core.
• The winding which is connected to the supply is called primary winding
and the winding which is connected to the load is called secondary
winding.
14. CURRENT TRANSFORMER
• Current Transformer is an instrument transformer used for protection and
metering of high values of current.
• It is used to step down current for measurement, control and protection.
15. POTENTIAL TRANSFORMER
• Potential transformers are instrument transformers used in power systems.
• It is used to step down voltage for measurement, control and protection.
• The Potential Transformer(PT) ratio values are the primary voltage divided
by the secondary voltage.
16. PROTECTIVE RELAYS
• Protective relay is a sensing device and it is designed to detect operating
conditions on an electric circuit.
• It trips the circuit breaker, when fault is detected.
• The main features of a good protective relay are:
(1) Selectivity
(2) Sensitivity
(3) Reliability
(4) Quickness
17. BATTERY ROOM
A substation battery charger ensures all the essential electrical systems in a
substation continue to operate in the event of power outage.
It supplies the energy needed to manage the protective devices and high
voltage components and allows electrical faults to be safely isolated.
18. CONTROL PANEL
o Control Panel contains meters, control switches and recorders located in
the control building, also called the dog house.
o These are used to control the substation equipment to send power from
one circuit to another or to open or to shut down circuits when needed.
19. CONCLUSION
This Training helped me to study the operational and
maintenance of various Electrical Equipments installed at
132 KV GSS, Nalla Power House, Jaipur.
I acquired the knowledge under the guidance of various
JEN’s and AEN’s working for R.R.V.P.N which will help me
in my future endeavours. This summer training was held
for 15 days after the completion of II year.
