5. HT and LT LINE DISTRIBUTION
High tension or HT supply is applicable for bulk power purchasers who
need 11 kilo-Volts or above.
In India LT supply is of 400 Volts for three-phase connection and
230 Volts for single-phase connection.
Most small consumers of electricity like individual houses, shops, small offices and
smaller manufacturing units get their electricity on LT connection.
HT is applicable for bulk purchasers of electricity like industries, big offices, Universities,
hostels and even residential colonies .
8. CT AND PT TRANSFORMER
CT & PT Transformer are measuring devices in AC system.
These are also called as instrument transformers.
As AC system deals with very high power hence we require Ammeter & voltmeter of humongous
sizes to measure such high power which is impractical & expensive too.
A CT has following properties:-
It is a step up transformer.
It enhances the voltage & thus the current gets reduced for a fixed power, since P= V×I×cosΦ.
Thus for a fixed amount of power, current can easily be measured.
Primary winding of a CT is always connected in series with the load & secondary winding is connected
with the ammeter.
A PT has following properties:-
It is step down transformer.
It reduces the voltage for a fixed power & thus the voltage can easily be measured, since P= V×I×cosΦ
The primary winding of the PT is always connected in parallel to the load & secondary winding is
connected to the voltmeter.
9. A vacuum circuit breaker is a kind of circuit breaker where the arc
quenching takes place in vacuum medium
VACUUM CIRCUIT BREAKER
Advantages of VCB
Vacuum offers the utmost insulating strength. So it has extreme superior arc quenching properties than
any other medium.
The vacuum circuit breaker has a long life.
Unlike Oil Circuit Breaker (OCB) or air blast Circuit Breaker (ABCB), the explosion of VCB is avoided.
This enhances the safety of the operating personnel.
No fire hazard
The vacuum CB is fast in operation so ideal for fault clearing.
VCB is suitable for repeated operation.
Vacuum circuit breakers are almost maintenance free.
No exhaust of gas to the atmosphere and Noiseless operation
10. EARTH ISOLATOR
Circuit breaker always trip the circuit but open contacts of breaker
cannot be visible physically from outside of the breaker, and that is why
it is recommended not to touch any electrical circuit just by switching
off the circuit breaker.
So for better safety, there must be some arrangement so
that one can see the open condition of the section of the circuit before
touching it.
The isolator is a mechanical switch which isolates a part of the circuit
from the system as when required.
Earth isolators separate a part of the system from rest for safe
maintenance works.
11. A power transformer is a passive electromagnetic device
that transfers energy from one circuit to another circuit by
means of inductive coupling. Power transformers differ from
other transformer types in that they are designed to comply
with regulatory requirements for mains power interfacing,
working at mains voltages and relatively high currents.

33/11kV transformer rating
12. SUBSTATION TRANSFORMER
A station transformer generally refers to a very specific transformer in the substation.
It is the transformer that supplies electrical power to the substation.
It's a simple distribution transformer that converts the voltage to
about 120/240V from 33kV for the station.
This powers all the equipment such as relays, measuring equipment, and SCADA
equipment in the substation.
Without this transformer the substation would go down and experience an outage.
13. The control room where the operator can view
the alarms,
breaker states,
measures of power elements(transformers, generators,
loads, etc.).
Depending on all the information that the operator receives,
he will operate the incomings, the tie breakers,
the outputs for the loads or simply will physically
check the elements that are generating an alarm
before a major fault occurs.
CONTROL ROOM
