2. YARD SECTION
-220 KV SECTION
-132 KV SECTION
-33 KV SECTION
ONE OTHER PART IS-
1.BATTERY ROOM
9. PANEL SECTION
it is a room which contains all type of panels.
it has two sections:
Control Panel Section:
It contain panels related to controlling of
instruments. E.g. feeder panel, X-mer
panel, etc.
Relay and Protection Panel Section:
It contains panel related to relay system and
protection systems. E.g. relay panel, line
protection panel, etc.
10. YARD SECTION
220 KV SECTION…
• IT WORKS ON 220 KV.
• THERE ARE THREE BUS BARS IN WHICH TWO
IS MAIN BUS AND OTHER ONE IS TRANFER
BUS.
• IT HAS FOUR INCOMMING FEEDERS I.E.
FROM PGCIL SAHJANWA, NTPC TANDA,GKP
CKT-1 & GKP CKT-2.
11. 132 KV…
• IT WORKS ON 132 KV.
•THERE ARE THREE BUS BARS IN WHICH TWO
IS MAIN BUS AND OTHER ONE IS TRANFER
BUS.
•220 KV VOLTAGE IS CONVERTED TO 132 KV
VOLTAGE USING FOUR TRANSFORMERS IN
WHICH ONE OF 160 MVA & OTHER THREE ARE
100 MVA.
• IN OTHER WORDS IT IS 220 KV/132KV
SUBSTATION.
•THIS LINE IS DIRECTLY FEDED TO MANY
OTHER SUBSTATIONS LIKE
MOHADDIPUR,GIDA ETC.
12. 33 KV SECTION…
• THIS SECTION WORKS ON 33 KV.
• IT HAS TWO FEEDERS OF 33 KV.
• ONE FROM 63 MVA TRANSFORMER & ONE
FROM 40 MVA TRANSFORMER.
• THESE TWO TRANSFORMERS CONVERTS
132 KV/33 KV.
• IN OTHER WORDS IT IS 132 KV/33 KV
SUSTATION.
• THIS LINE IS DIRECTLY FEDED TO MANY
INDUSTRIES AND DISTRIBUTORS LIKE
GIDA,PGCIL ETC.
13. BATTERY ROOM
110 DC SUPPLY REQUIRED FOR OPERATION
OF CIRCUIT BREAKERS-
•55 BATTERIES OF 2V , 300AH (TAURUS-HBL
POWER SYSTEM LTD.){FOR REGULER USE}
•55 BATTERIES OF 2V , 300AH(HBL POWER
SYSTEM LTD.){FOR BACKUP}
DC SUPPLY REQUIRED FOR OPERATION IN
CONTROL ROOM-
•BATTERIES OF 2V , 500 AH (EXIDE
INDUSTRIAL)
14. COMPONENTS OF SUB-STATION –
•RELAY
•CIRCUIT BREAKER
•ISOLATOR
•TRANSFORMER
•CURRENT TRANSFORMER (CT)
•POTENTIAL TRANFORMER (PT)
•CAPACITOR VOLTAGE TRANSFORMER (CVT)
•LIGHTENING ARRESTER( LA )
•FEEDER
•BUS-BAR
•INSULATOR
•CAPACITOR BANK
•WAVE TRAP
15. RELAY
A relay is an electrically operated switch.
A relay is a sensing device which sense the abnormal
condition and then produce an alarm or open the
breaker contact.
CIRCUIT BREAKER
A circuit breaker is an automatically operated
electrical switch designed to protect an electrical
circuit from damage caused by over-current or
overload or short circuit.
ISOLATOR
Isolator is used to ensure that an electrical circuit is
completely de-energized for service or maintenance.
16. TRANSFORMER
A transformer is an electrical device that transfers
electrical energy between two or more circuits through
electromagnetic induction.
There are eight step down transformer at substation:
220/132 KV TRANSFORMER-
1. 160 MVA(AREVA)
2. 100 MVA(MISTIBUSHI)
3. 100 MVA(MISTIBUSHI)
4. 100 MVA(TELK-TRANFORMERS & ELECTRICLS LIMITED KERALA) (NOT
INSTALLED BUT UNDER PROCESS)
132/33 KV TRANSFORMER-
1. 63 MVA(ADITYA VIDYUT APPLIANCES LTD.)
2. 40 MVA(AREVA)
33000/400 VOLT TRANSFORMER-
1. 250 KVA(FOR SUB-STATION)(SWASTIK COPPER JAIPUR)
2. 250 KVA(FOR COLONY)(NGEF)
17. CURRENT TRANSFORMER
It is a step up transformer which is used to measure the
current, by stepping up the voltage level.
POTENTIAL TRANSFORMER
It is a step down transformer which is used to measure
the voltage, by stepping up the voltage level.
CAPACITOR VOLTAGE TRANSFORMER
A capacitor voltage transformer (CVT) is a
transformer used to step down extra high voltage
signals and provide a low voltage signal for voltage
measurement & It also forms a carrier communication
network through the transmission network.
18. LIGHTENING ARRESTER
It provides low impedance path for high frequency and
high current supply.
FEEDER
A set of conductors that originate at a primary
distribution centre and supply power to one or more
secondary distribution centre.
BUS-BAR
An assembly of conductors for collecting electric
currents and distributing them to outgoing feeders.
19. INSULATOR
A material of such low conductivity that the flow of
current through it is negligible.
CAPACITOR BANK
It is used to componsate the power factor from lagging
to leading nature.
WAVETRAP
Tripping the high frequency communication signal
sent on the line from the remote substation and
diverting them to the telecom panel in the substation
control room.
20. CONCLUSION
An engineer needs to have not just theoretical
but practical as well as and so every student is
supposed to undergo practical training session
after 3rd year where I have imbibed the
knowledge about transmission, distribution and
maintenance with economical issues related to
it.
At last I would like to say that practical training
taken at 220 KV substation barahuwa has
broadened my knowledge and widened my
thinking as a professional.
