Getting Students to Talk
Whilst you talk they listen but they benefit from
talking so give them the opportunities: here are
some proven resources to make it a success.
4. 4
Round and Round
Students stand in two circles, one inside facing the other
Circles rotate then stop
Student asks the person nearest them in the inside circle
a question- get it right, swap. Continue
5. 5
Say Share Tell
In pairs, students say to each other what they did to
tackle a problem
They split and go and ask for ideas from others
They come back and tell their partner what they found
7. 7
Super Survey
Each student has to select 5 students and ask
them 5 questions each, collating the answers.
Evaluative challenge is how to present a
summary to the class of what they found.

Vote with your feet
(think before you move)
Call out a question, four people standing in different parts
of the room call out their (allocated) answer- students go
to the answer that sounds the best for them. Each group
explains why they ended up where they did.
