A two day seminar & hands-on training for
engineering design employees of SNC-Lavalin
Fayez Engineering for the application of SAES-P-
123 (Saudi Aramco Engineering Standards) in
indoor, emergency, outdoor & security lighting of
Saudi Aramco Industrial Projects with the use of
DIALux 4.11 as the lighting calculation software.

INTRODUCTION

1. To refresh participants with the design
recommendations according to SAES P-123, IESNA
and NFPA 70
2. To apply the design recommendations using SLC
Products in future Saudi ARAMCO Substation Projects
3. To build a strong foundation where participant can
design, calculate and estimate lighting for any given
task, room or area in a ARAMCO substation project.

2. All Indoor Lighting will be calculated without effect of
obstructions/objects but if future projects will provide a detailed
furniture/equipment/cable tray/HVAC ducts layout, they should be
included in the planning and calculation
3. DIALux, a leading lighting planning / calculating / rendering
software from Germany will be used for evaluation and print
output

LIGHTING TERMS

SAMPLE: A point source luminaire is placed at a parapet of 3m height. It
is aimed to the ground 4.5m away. When measured by a lux meter, it
shows 10 lux. How much is the luminaire’s candela power?
Frmla: Given: adj =3m opp=4.5m
E = 10 lux
Solution: get Ɵ, so tan Ɵ = 3/4.5 = 33.69
Ɵ = 56.31°
then, d = 3 ² + 4.5 ²
d = 5.408 m
E x d ² 10 lm/m² x (5.408m) ²
then, I = =
cos Ɵ cos 56.31 °
Therefore : I = 527.249 cd

Eave = Average Illuminance (E) in lux
Φ = Initial Flux in lumens
CU = Coefficient of Utilization, Street Side
MF = Maintenance Factor or LLF
WR = Width of Roadway in meters
PS = Pole Spacing in meters
Therefore to get Pole Spacing:
SAMPLE PROBLEM:
7435-250W MH Lamp with 19,000 lumens
7m Road width, 6m Pole Height
Maintenance Factor as 70%
What is the ideal Pole Spacing to achieve average
illuminance of 20 lux?
To get CU,
Road Width / Pole Height
= 7m / 6m = 1.6
Therefore,
Street Side CU is 0.4
