Editor's Notes
History:1990-At the time choiceFM was known as an independent company named Choice 96.9. It was broadcasted from studios in Trinity Gardens, Brixton. It was also Britain’s first 24 hour black music radio station with a licence, covering South London.1995-The group won a second license which allowed them to bring a local version of their London offering to Birmingham on 102.2FM, taking the place from Buzz FM.1999-The Birmingham licence was sold to Chrysalis Radio and became Galaxy Birmingham, but Choice expanded within the capital in May 2000 when a largely independent North Londonlicence was awarded for Choice 107.1.The station was now broadcasting from Borough High Street, Borough, London. The goal was to reach a largerAfro-Caribbean audience outside the limited range of the coverage from Brixton. 2004- Capital Radio group took full control of the station and moved the station's base from the target service area to the group's central studios in London's Leicester Square. In the same year the station received and Implemented a merger of their FM licences, allowing them to carry out a service across the capital on the two frequencies instead of just following the North London-specific music requirements. The DAB service also became a simulcast of the London station, with the demise of local drop-ins.2005-Choice was considered one of the key brands of the new larger network, it was also made available to digital TV viewers via its addition to Sky and later to Virgin Media.
Type of news cast-Since they are focused on music related news, the type of newscast varies. If something big happens in the music industry such as the death of Michael Jackson or Whitney Houston it would be major news and broadcasted worldwide not only on ChoiceFM but other radio stations as well. Similarly if there are any concerts or events scheduled to take place in London or somewhere in the UK it would be national news and local news because it is targeted at the citizens of the UK as it is easier for them to take part.Profile:The issues discussed are generally about what singers have been up to on social media platforms such as twitter, music programmes and events. They also contain updates on new singles, albums, music video releases, and collaborations. Other issues regarding the artist’s personal life might be included such as a birth of a child, death of family member etc. They are also very interactive as they are frequently holding competitions for their audience to participate in.
Target audience: This is an urban music station so its target audience are people who enjoy hip-hop, Rap andRnB. The type of news is also focused on what artists are up to, so it’s something that fans would be really interested in finding out about such as their relationship status, musical releases etc. I think that this station appeals to mostly teenagers and people in their 20s because they are more likely to go out clubbing or to concerts and events. I also think that this radio station is targeted at both men and women because of their variety of presenters which are both male and female.Rajar is the official body in charge of measuring radio audiences in the UK, and according to their statistics Choice Fm has managed to acquire a total of 543 000 five hundred forty-three thousand, since December 2011.Local-topics regarding education and how schools are finding other ways of entertaining their student as a result of the death of a teacher.major and national news–news stories focused on Films or in cinemas all over london and the rest of the world and chris brown is an international singer.
