西澳大利亚中文教师协会会讯
Dear members and colleagues,
I hope you all have settled into the new term after the holiday break.
Ten CLTAWA members including myself attended the
19th
CLTFA Conference in Canberra at the beginning
of the school holidays. The Conference was a very
rewarding event and the weather in Canberra was ex-
ceptionally warm and sunny!
Term 2 was a short term but this didn’t stop the great
enthusiasm and the wonderful effort of CLTAWA com-
mittee members and other member teachers in successfully organizing
the annual Primary School Pandas’ Picnic and 2013 High School Year 9
Day excursions. These two language and cultural oriented events were
very welcomed by the students! My sincere thanks to the event coor-
dinators: Priscilla, Bonnie (Pandas’ Picnic), Xiao Yu and Anita (Year 9
Day) who spent a lot of time planning and going through all the logistics
of the events. I also thank Kinny for volunteering her time at the Pandas’
Picnic and all the other participating school teachers and helpers. These
two fantastic events wouldn’t be possible without their great commit-
ment and effort. One of the feedbacks received by a student was “It’s so
fun! Can we do it every term?”
Five Mount Lawley Senior School students participated in the 6th High
School Hanyuqiao Competition at the University of Adelaide. with 2 stu-
dents being selected to go to China in October. My congratulations to all
the contestants, and special thanks to our three very devoted teachers:
Bee Tee, James Cheah, Anita Chong and Professor Chu from the Con-
fucius Institute at UWA.
Invited by the Chinese Language and Culture Education Foundation
of China and Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Ningx-
ia, Perth Rossmoyne Chinese School organized a 30 students sum-
mer camp to Ningxia China during July holiday.The campers benefit-
ted from learning Chinese language, understanding Chinese culture and
enjoying the beautiful scenery of Ningxia.
You may be aware that Curtin Business School and Chinese Studies has
recently introduced a new Accounting & Chinese Double Major degree.
This is another indication that Chinese is becoming a more prominent
language in the business sector.
The major CLTAWA events in Term 3 are our annual CLTAWA Chinese
Writing and the second language students Speaking Competitions.
More details are included in this newsletter. We wish your students all
the best in these two upcoming competitions.
Have a great Term 3!

Engage China
Project Team

In June, seven Chinese second Language students met with Her Excellency Ms Francis Adamson,
Australian Ambassador to the people’s republic of China. The meeting allowed the students to gain an
insight into the life of an Ambassador to China whilst also receiving advice from a very successful source.
Each of the students was able to ask a question in Chinese and Ms Adamson who was very friendly
responded in Mandarin. She encouraged us to continue learning Chinese and the school was invited to
visit the Embassy in Beijing during their next China tour in 2014.

The website promotes the creative and imaginative
learning of languages using ‘mems’ – photos, images,
animations that help reinforce words and facts into
our memories. I have introduced the site to my Y7
and after school students and they love it! It is best
for individual learning though, so the students can
use the site to practise the vocabulary they learn in
class at their own pace or even to learn some new
words.

Sept 4) No.2 August 2013 From the President Newsletter The Chinese Language Teachers’ Association of W.A. (Inc.) 西澳大利亚中文教师协会会讯 Dear members and colleagues, I hope you all have settled into the new term after the holiday break. Ten CLTAWA members including myself attended the 19th CLTFA Conference in Canberra at the beginning of the school holidays. The Conference was a very rewarding event and the weather in Canberra was ex- ceptionally warm and sunny! Term 2 was a short term but this didn’t stop the great enthusiasm and the wonderful effort of CLTAWA com- mittee members and other member teachers in successfully organizing the annual Primary School Pandas’ Picnic and 2013 High School Year 9 Day excursions. These two language and cultural oriented events were very welcomed by the students! My sincere thanks to the event coor- dinators: Priscilla, Bonnie (Pandas’ Picnic), Xiao Yu and Anita (Year 9 Day) who spent a lot of time planning and going through all the logistics of the events. I also thank Kinny for volunteering her time at the Pandas’ Picnic and all the other participating school teachers and helpers. These two fantastic events wouldn’t be possible without their great commit- ment and effort. One of the feedbacks received by a student was “It’s so fun! Can we do it every term?” Five Mount Lawley Senior School students participated in the 6th High School Hanyuqiao Competition at the University of Adelaide. with 2 stu- dents being selected to go to China in October. My congratulations to all the contestants, and special thanks to our three very devoted teachers: Bee Tee, James Cheah, Anita Chong and Professor Chu from the Con- fucius Institute at UWA. Invited by the Chinese Language and Culture Education Foundation of China and Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Ningx- ia, Perth Rossmoyne Chinese School organized a 30 students sum- mer camp to Ningxia China during July holiday.The campers benefit- ted from learning Chinese language, understanding Chinese culture and enjoying the beautiful scenery of Ningxia. You may be aware that Curtin Business School and Chinese Studies has recently introduced a new Accounting & Chinese Double Major degree. This is another indication that Chinese is becoming a more prominent language in the business sector. The major CLTAWA events in Term 3 are our annual CLTAWA Chinese Writing and the second language students Speaking Competitions. More details are included in this newsletter. We wish your students all the best in these two upcoming competitions. Have a great Term 3! • 8. CLTAWA Newsletter August 2013 8 Sharing Corner CanUHanyu CanUHanyu is a resource designed for Iphone and Android devices created by Education Services Australia (ESA) for the teaching of Chinese. Students of Mount Lawley Senior High School like using it. Please refer to attached flyer. http://www.iphoneappstorm.com/iphone-apps/ education/au.edu.esa.CanyuHanyu/canuhanyu. php?id=667780038 Anita Chong memrise.com The website promotes the creative and imaginative learning of languages using ‘mems’ – photos, images, animations that help reinforce words and facts into our memories. I have introduced the site to my Y7 and after school students and they love it! It is best for individual learning though, so the students can use the site to practise the vocabulary they learn in class at their own pace or even to learn some new words. Arlene Wong Perth College http://www.tesaustralia.com/ Thanks to members for sharing these.
