ASSURE Method Assignment
Analyze Learners
Teaching Holiday traditions to 4th graders. There are 20 students 11 girls, and 9 boys.
There are 2 Muslims, 3 Jewish and 2 African Americans.
State Objectives
My students will describe the traditions of the Christmas holiday from different cultures
by watching videos, singing songs, reading stories, and viewing posters by the end of the week
with 95% accuracy.
Select Materials
I will use videos from YouTube and other sources of different cultures celebrating
Christmas. I will use songs that other cultures sing and stories about how they celebrate the
Christmas holiday. I will also create posters of each different culture.
Utilize Materials
The students will watch the videos and see the types of decorations and other festivities
these other cultures do. They will listen to the songs that other cultures sing to celebrate the
Christmas holiday and read stories to show what other cultures do that may be different from
our own culture. The students will also view posters of each culture’s holiday traditions so they
can see the similarities and differences.
Require Learner Participation
I will assign the students into groups of 4 and have each one visit a poster. As the
groups view each poster, they will write down any similarities and differences they notice
among the religions’ Christmas traditions. Once all groups have seen all posters, I will have
2. each group mingle with the other groups to compare their notes. Once they are finished
mingling, we will have a discussion as a class about the comparisons and contrasts among all of
the religions’ Christmas traditions.
Evaluate and Revise
The students will be assigned to choose a culture, other than their own, and create a
picture of the chosen culture and their home culture. They are to pick aspects from each and
combine the two together. When everyone is finished, each student will present his or hers to
the class.
