“Build Back Better” In the aftermath of devastating April 25 Earthquake that shook Nepal, WOREC, as a right based organization was committed to rebuilding Bisdeutar, a marginalized community of Sindhupalchowk district. WOREC initiated its reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts from June 2016. Reconstruction of 56 houses was completed in December 2018.

“Build Back Better”
In the aftermath of devastating April 25 Earthquake that shook Nepal,
WOREC, as a right based organization was committed to rebuilding
Bisdeutar, a marginalized community of Sindhupalchowk district.
WOREC initiated its reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts from June
2016. Reconstruction of 56 houses was completed in December 2018.
Bisdeutar, a settlement of indigenous
“Majhi” community saw destruction
of all of its 54 houses, leaving 12
women and 2 children dead in April
2015 earthquake.
Located just 24 km from headquarter
of Sindhupalchowk district,
Bisdeutar became support less from
various sources at the time of
earthquake due to remoteness,
rough road and less accessibility in
government services. Community
there received their first relief
package including food, kitchen
utensil and clothes from WOREC.
Before initiating house construction, 360 hour masonry training was
organized in collaboration with Underprivileged Children’s
Educational Programs (UCEP). 25 participants including 11 women
received training in earthquake resilient technology in building
construction. Trained masons are providing services as skilled
labours in different construction sites of Sindhupalchowk district.
Basic house wiring training was conducted to 20 people for
systematic electrification and power supply.
REBUILDING LIVES AND COMMUNITIES TOGETHER
AFTER CRISIS IN NEPAL
After the completion of the emergency relief program, WOREC
focused on recovery and rehabilitation activities mainly on livelihood,
food security support program and awareness raising program for
women and communities. The program aimed to restore livelihoods
and uplift women's access to resources by ensuring women’s
economic, social and cultural rights by building the capacity of
women and girls as an independent economic agent. After the
training and seed distribution community has started production of
seasonal vegetable improving their food habit from dry vegetable to
green and fresh vegetables.
The community benefited through women health camps and
orientation on sexual and reproductive health rights made women
attentive on their personal health and hygiene benefiting community.
LIVELIHOOD RECOVERY
SNEHA CAMPAIGN
WOREC responded with dignity kits, psycho-social counseling to the
survivors and supported the survivors on need-based approach and
provided capacity building to women.
