Gujranwala District Punjab Pakistan.
3. Description of Proposed
Project:Pakistan is highly vulnerable by the effects caused by climate change and it is in
the list of top ten countries in the world badly affected by climate change
which Pakistan is contributing very less towards carbon emissions in
environment. Pakistan is facing floods, droughts, rapid melting of glaciers,
low crop productivity and low yield, lack of water for drinking and agriculture
use, affects on coastal lives and resources and people facing health problems
these all are linked with climate change. Looking at the current alarming
situation of climate change there is dire need to address this issue and involve
such stakeholders who can play a productive role to minimize the effects of
climate change in Pakistan and replicate and sustain the change at community
level. Youth is more than 60% of total population of Pakistan and if youth is
organized, educated for a community level change for climate change it will
be long term and sustainable. To address the issues of environment and
climate change in Pakistan youth has been focused to educate them and
prepare youth development such community based initiatives for climate
change and further working for its sustainability. 1500 youth has been
targeted and 5000 sampling of different trees will be planted as a practical
step. A team of 200 youth volunteers will be organized and trained to
implement the proposed project activities. This is unique proposal in which
youth have energetic, enthusiastic and passionate will be practically involved
for six month for ESD on Environment and Climate Change in Pakistan. Youth
will be skilled and empowered and they will be work as permanent activists
for climate change in District Gujranwala which has been flood prone district
and has influenced by the effects of Climate Change.

5. Goals & Objectives of Project:
Educated, Empowerment and Practical Youth on Sustainable a
ClimateChange resilient youth in 20 communities. Communities are
facing many issues due to climate change such as hot weather, floods,
droughts, shortage of water for drinking and agriculture use, lack of
forests, low crops yields in agriculture sector, health diseases due to
certain climate change effects, changes in rain patterns, and shortage in
the livelihood of communities living at the coastal belts in Pakistan etc.
Project Goal is empowering and educates Pakistani Youth around climate
change issues and engaging them into practical actions through tree
plantation. This approach will directly influence core issues of climate
change. Objective first is to aware and educate the 800 youth members
from 20 communities through seminars and other community corer
meetings. Second objective building capacity of 200 youth volunteers
over the issues of climate change and then use them throughout the
project as environmental and climate change activists. Third is to engage
500 youth members in planting sapling of 5000 plants with the
coordination of Government Education, Punjab Forest Department
Gujranwala and District Social Welfare Department Government of
Punjab. Overall in the project 1500 youth will actively participate in
project activities.

8. Integration of Project:
Youth empowerment is key objective of this proposal and 10 seminars for
800 and 2 training workshops for 200 youth will be organized. Through
provoking lectures, speeches by technical experts followed by questions
answers session group work, session work presentation along with practical
action plan will be organized in planned communities. It will give them input,
relevant information, skill based education over climate change and
environmental challenges. So through these initiatives local community
youth will work for solving the problems of environment through the
approach learning by doing experience. So local initiatives will be taken and
this practice will going on in future as a sustainable factor.
Total Beneficiaries of Project= 1500, Objective 01 Beneficiaries= 800,
Objective 02 Beneficiaries= 200, Objective 03 Beneficiaries= 500 Youth and
5000 saplings of different trees. This project will directly interact with youth
and they will be involved in community building, empowering youth, use the
energies of other stakeholders other than youth achieving the targets of
project within six month starting November 2017 to April 2018.Youth will not
be educated using different skills and techniques on environment and
climate change but also be a agent of change in the attitude and values. In
project such interventions has been planned which will empowering youth in
the context of environment and practical action points will be planned and
then will be implemented according to the project accordingly. Directly 1500
youth will directly benefit from the project but indirectly 20 communities will
be aware, educated and empowered and support the local initiatives on
environment and climate change in district Gujranwala.
9. Innovation in Proposed Project:
Proposed project and its approach is different
and unique because it is focusing on such
issues which are relevant, demanding
community integrated response. Youth has
been focused as youth can show quick and
rapid response as youth can be motivated
and organized over this burning issues which
is linked with our and coming generations
lives and future. Youth will be linked with local
Government department and their potential
will be used in other community development
projects in future.
10. Future Strategy
Proposed project will be implemented in
six months in one district Gujranwala and
in next plan project will be expanded into
three districts. In Gujranwala district 1500
youth with the collaboration of Government
line departments such as Forest
department will carry on the goals and
objectives even after the completion of the
six month project.
Next project will be at least for the period
of one year and 4500 youth will be
targeted, 15000 trees will be planted and
proposed budget may be US $ 15,000.00.
In the future project same like youth will be
target group in three districts Sialkot,
