1. In what ways does your media product use, develop
or challenge forms and conventions of real media
products: Teaser Trailer.
With my film trailer I used ideas from current and past films which shows it conventional, such as text being faded
into scenes or the title of the film being shown at the end as well as the dates etc. However such things such as the
actors names I left ambiguous as I wanted it to be a secretive kind of product to attract audiences. My teaser trailer
was based on the research I had completed where I analysed three separate trailers and went through their
differences as well as what makes them conventional and what doesn’t. I then took aspects from my research and
analysis and cooperated them into my own teaser trailer. The genre is obvious to the audience due to the
conventional effects I used. For instance the continuation of the heartbeat and the black and white scenes, also not
using any humour to create tension and the heartbeat was used to create a desired climax. These effects came into
play whilst I did my research and made note of the differences between the conventional and the non
conventional.

2. From my research I realised most teaser trailer had some sort of music in the
background, however I wanted to go against convention and use a sound effect that has some
sort of tension then finally reaches a climax. The best sound that came into mind was a heartbeat.
Instead of creating my own effect I found a website that allows downloads of free copyrighted
sound effects. The audio for this is below.
3. As for mise en scene all of my filming was done outside so a set was already in place, however I needed basic props
for my actors to work with such as a mobile gloves and a handbag which is used in everyday life and could be seen
as conventional in the film industry.

4. Camera shots played a large part in my trailer. As I wanted the view to be from a perspective as if someone is watching/spying on the
character. The first shot is from a birds eye/crane view to show that someone is looking at her from a building. I then changed the
camera angle to down below to create the same effect. I then zoomed out from behind the car to show that the actor seems to be
hiding behind the vehicle and then the continuous pan to show the watching. The fourth scene is from a building but from a different
angel to portray that they hidden character changes his whereabouts. All these shots are conventional and are used in many thriller
genre films to convey the ‘being watched’ effect.
The standstill camera showing the events from the back reveals the hidden character and him running behind her whilst she doesn’t
know this to create a climax. This sort of scene is also quite conventional in dramatic trailers. The last slide shows the pan across the
pathway so we can engage in the conversation as well as get to know each characters features and looks.
5. In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products: Poster
For my poster I used a separate image instead of taking an image from the actual film which is what most posters do which I learnt
from my research. I made the main image bold and made sure the background didn’t take to much attention away from that image. I
also used a greyscale as it links to what I did in the trailer. Some posters show the actors names and so on however I wanted to keep
this hidden to form a sense of ambiguousness which also links to the film so I kept this unknown. However I added the date the film
was coming out and a little quote to get my audience thinking and intrigued.

get forgotten.
6. Comparison between my research and the poster I created. The conventions are similar as I’ve pointed out
with the arrows. From my research I learnt it was conventional to have a main image about something
important in the film as well as a quote of some sort. I went along with this convention as I felt it would be
best with the type of product I intended to make. However some unconventional aspects I took was not
having credits at the bottom to create the secrecy of the characters. I looked at a particular genre of film
posters that were similar to my product so I could recreate and see the differences in the conventions.

With the credits I decided to leave it
out as I wanted the directors and etc
to be hidden. This will make my
audience want to do they’re own
research on the film and will come
across something interesting. This will
gain interest and will allow the poster
to be talked about and I will gain
interest from the word of mouth
