• Assistive technology- term that includes assistive, adaptive, and
rehabilitative devices for people with disabilities and also includes the
process used in selecting, locating, and using them
• Universal Design for Learning- is a set of principles for curriculum
development that give all individuals equal opportunities to learn.
• ADHD- disorder in which a person is unable to control behavior due to
difficulty in processing neural stimuli, accompanied by an extremely high
level of motor activity.

categorize facts. Seeing, hearing and reading.
• Least restrictive environment- a student who has a disability should have
the opportunity to be educated with non-disabled peers, to the greatest
extent appropriate and should have access to a general education program

RESOURCES
• Page turners- Assists students who have difficulty turning pages.
• Apps- Apps on smartphones have a variety of assistive programs for special needs
• Stand alone magnifiers- magnify materials that may be difficult for people with low
vision to see, such as magnifying glasses, projectors
• Tracking aids- low tech solutions that help students ability to visually focus on text,
i.e. using rulers to go line by line
• Digital audio files- sound clips of mp3 formatted readings for students that have
difficulty reading normal text
