2. GOODWIN’STHEORY (6 KEY FEATURES)
Genre characteristics:Although this song is within the ‘dance’ genre it has a few different features in its music
video that go against the normality of a dance music video. In a dance video there are usually girls dressed in short
and revealing clothing dancing however this is more of a narrative music video tell a story of what looks to be a
couple robbing a petrol station. This goes against the stereotypes of a dance music video.
Relationship between lyrics and visuals:There is a slight connection between the lyrics of the visuals ion this music
video. The lyrics are saying that ‘not even gravity can hold us down’ .This relates to the couple trying to say that
even though they have just robbed a petrol station and they are being chased but the police they cant be stopped/
‘held down’.
Relationship between music and visuals: the music and the video conform well together throughout the video.
When the song slows down the video slows down with it, and calms down. However when the beat kicks in the
music video picks up for example when the police start to chase them. The cuts and changes of camera angle are
also in time with the music.
Close ups: during the video we get a few close ups of the main of the singer Ella Eyre when the lyrics kick in
however throughout the whole video these are the only close ups of anyone we get.
Reference of notice and looking:As this music video is shot outside there is no reference of notice and looking.
Intertextual reference:This music video does not have any other reference to other media aspects such as film.
3. GOODWIN'STHEORY (5 KEY ASPECTS)
Through Beats
This song by DJ Fresh conforms the usual sound of song that he is related to, which is a slow tempo start
to the song, usually with a vocalist, then builds up and then drops with a beat. However DJ Fresh uses
mainly different vocalists for each song and therefore making it harder to make out and distinguish who
the song is written/sung by.
4. NARRATIVE AND PERFORMANCE
The visuals throughout the video fit the song very well as they show the lyrics of the song in a story. It
shows a couple after they have robbed the petrol station they are trying to run away and the lyrics are
telling the story as it happens in the video. The slower parts of the film are when the lyrics slow down and
then when the song builds up the video becomes more fasted paced and action packed, for example
when the police start to chase them.
5. STAR IMAGE
The main star in this music video is the singer Ella Eyre as she sings the song as well as starts in the while
music video. During the video we get lost of different and interesting shots of her singing .This is why
the music video focuses on her as the main ‘star image’ in the video.
6. RELATION OFVISUALSTOTHE SONG
The visuals during the music video follow the song well to an extent. They follow the speed of the music
and lyrics well like when the speed of the song increases the visuals become more intense and more goes
on in each shot, which is the same as when the music slows down so does the intensity of the video.
7. TECHNICAL ASPECTS
The editing pace fits well with the sound and tempo speeding up when the tempo speeds up and slowing
down when the tempo slows down, and the use of different camera shots, like the close ups on Ella when
she is singing are also used well to show who is controlling the shot and also lyrics at any point in the
video.
