2. WHERE WAS IT ORIGINATED FROM?
House music is a genre of electronic dance music which originated in Chicago in the
early 1980s. It was made popular in Chicago in 1984. House music quickly spread to
other American cities like Detroit and New York City where they developed their own
regional scenes in the genre. In the mid 1980s, house music became popular in
Europe as well as major cities in South America, and Australia. It all started in
Chicago's Southside in 1977, when a new kind of club opened. This new Chicago club
called The Warehouse gave House music its name. Frankie Knuckles, who opened The
Warehouse, mixed old disco classics and new Eurobeat pop to create this new genre
of music ’house’.
3. MAIN ARTISTS IN HOUSE MUSIC
There are many different house music artists but some of the main artists currently
include Avicii, Swedish house mafia and Tiësto. The early 80s proved a vital turning
point. Sinnamon’s "Thanks To You", D-Train’s "You're The One For Me" a record that
has been continually sampled over the last decade, took things in a different direction
with their sparse, synthesised sounds that introduced dub effects and drop-outs that
had never been heard before. However nowadays then industry is dominated by the
names above and their electro style songs such as ‘greyhound and levels.
4. AWARDS FOR HOUSE MUSIC
There are a range of awards which are given out for house music songs. Some of
these awards include the MTV Europe music award for best electronic song, the
American music award for favourite electronic song, the grammis award for song of
the year and artist of the year along with the award for house innovation and best
selling house music song. A lot of these awards have been won by the main artists
such as Avicii and the Swedish house mafia but there are new upcoming artists taking
the industry by storm such as Martin Garrix who will be challenging for these awards
in the coming future.
5. KEY FEATURES OF HOUSE MUSIC
House music is seen as an up tempo style of music ideal for dancing and similar to
disco music. Typically house music is different from dance music due to Fat pumping
basslines, searing synth leads and chunky beats. The songs usually begin with a steady
pace and tempo with a catching tune which speeds up and becomes faster paced
before a very brief pause and then a deep tempo bass drop which is swiftly followed
by the fast paced music again.
6. STYLE/CLOTHING/ATTITUDES
The style and clothing worn by the artists is just normal clothes. This is because the
main attention isn’t really focused on the artists as they are only on stage ‘Dj-ing’ and
they are not really very visible due to the flashing disco lights. Therefore these points
are not considered to be necessarily important for the artists and therefore there is
not a certain ‘style’ which most house artists wear.
