Dystopia of Maya
I fell into the depths of Maya's beautiful green eyes and not even the currently setting sun could compare to their beauty. She pressed once more
against the rusted iron gate that separated us, pushed it closed and once again took away my opportunity of joining my family, and let a pained
cry of sadness escape her lips before turning into the shadows and dissolving into the darkness. Then the scene carried on as it had before as if
Maya had been only an apparition. The crickets resumed their songs and when the frogs in the nearby creek began the harmony, I knew I was
alone. The loneliness crept upon me like the cold of a moonless night. I stood and retraced the steps I had already taken earlier, that then had seemed
to be nothing but magical when they led me to my wife, but now as they led me passed the unknown dilapidated shack that served as a safe haven for
my wife and I and along the overgrown dirt roads of Eucalyptus, my steps seemed to lead me to my death.
I walked along the ruined remains of life on the ground. Old cottages and fields were dotted along the countryside like relics of a forgotten era. The
fields, no longer a youthful green, were brown, shriveled and unfriendly to the farmers of Eucalyptus who tried in vain to procure a single sprout to
appease the Council. Skeletons masquerading about in clothes and shoes worked on the fields feeding, begging, and fighting their fields in desperation.
The picture should have been and normally was accompanied by

Essay on Diversity and Distribution of Eucalyptus
Diversity and Distribution of Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus is a genus of hardwood evergreen forest trees, and is the most conspicuous element of Australian vegetation. Its members constitute 95
percent of the continent's forests and are the dominant trees of Australia's woodlands (Kelly 1969). It is an extremely diverse group, with
approximately 500 named species and subspecies and nearly 200 described hybrid varieties (Blakely 1965). The genus is overwhelmingly endemic to
the Australian mainland and Tasmania. Only seven species occur naturally outside thecontinent, mostly on the islands of Papua/New Guinea and the
Indonisian island of Timor, and only two of these species are not represented on the Australian continent. Eucalyptus is ... Show more content on

Thus, in response to this great diversity in habitat, Eucalyptus has, through many generations, adapted and speciated to become one of the most diverse
living groups on earth. The diversity of the genus lies not only in its shear number of species, but also in the various forms, features, and morphological
characters it displays.
Because of its great range of habitation, the widespread Eucalyptus displays a variety of shapes and sizes. The Snow Gum (E. pauciflora), which must
deal with the harsh conditions of high altitudes, takes the form of twisted, windswept shrubs, often barely reaching three feet in height (Kelly 1969).
However, the Mountain Ash (E. regnans) of the wet, rich–loamed Victorian and Tasmanian forests, often exceeds heights of 320 feet, making it the
tallest Australian species and the tallest hardwood in the world. Most forest species rarely attain heights of 150 feet, while woodland species
generally do not exceed 80 feet but have a short, thick trunk with heavy limbs to support a broad, spreading crown. Sometimes the same species occurs
in both forests and woodlands, assuming the form characteristic of the vegetative type in which it grows (Hall, Johnston, and Chippendale 1970). A
number of species exhibit a shrub–like dwarf form in which several stems arise from a large, woody rootstock composed of stem tissue (called a
lignotuber) imbedded in shallow soil.

Asexual Reproduction Is Common Among Living Things
Asexual reproduction is a style of reproduction which offspring are formed by a single organism, and inherit the genes of one parent only; unlike
sexual reproduction, which requires the genes from two parent organisms in order to create an offspring, asexual reproduction occurs when a single
organism. This causes the offspring to almost a duplicate of the one parent it inherits its genes from. Asexual reproduction is done externally and it
commonly used by sea creatures like seahorses, Parthenogenesis, Copperheads, coral, sea anemones and starfish. It is also used in some plants like for
example strawberries, potatoes and onions. And it is used by decomposers like fungi and bacteria. Asexual reproduction is common among living
things and takes a variety of forms.
Vegetative propagationDescriptionExamples
LignotuberA starchy, woody swelling of the root crown which some plants have adapted it provides protection against destruction of theplant stem,
such as by fire, it also serves to help contain water for very dry conditions. The crown contains buds from where new stems sprout from, it also acts as a
container which stores of starch, that can support a period of growth in the absence of photosynthesis. It is found commonly in Australian flora, in
resilience to the high possibility of bush fires that occur annually and the high humidity and heat rates. In Australia this feature is found in the eucalyptus
tree, marginata(Jarrah), most mallees, and many Banksia species.

The Effect Of Modern Medicine On Health, Wellness, And...
As interest in natural means to improved health, wellness and fitness grows, essential oils are gaining in popularity in the United States. The healing
powers, on both physiological and psychological levels, have been utilized in Europe and the rest of the world for some time. Natural, pure essential
oils used in aromatherapy have a very diverse range of healing properties – as diverse as the hundreds of plants from which they are distilled. The
effects range from antibiotic (without incurrence of resistance as with pharmaceutical drugs), to antiviral (the power of which modern medicine has yet
to replicate), to anti–inflammatory and analgesic, with many having 'homeostatic ' properties – meaning they support balance in many of the body 's
systems.
Here 's brief look at ten essential oils commonly used in the home health care kit – the list and descriptions are not meant to be exhaustive; rather, let
them stimulate your interest in furthering your knowledge of these oils, their applications, and the vast potential of the many, many other essential oils
available today.
Tea TreeEssential Oil – When first examined for it 's antiseptic properties, Tea Tree essential oil was found to be 100 times more powerful than
carbolic acid – the medical standard at the time. Tea tree has an extremely broad range of antibiotic, antiviral and antifungal properties that have been
confirmed by modern scientific research. Often used topically on small wounds, Tea

Journey In The Philippines : My Journey Through The...
Journey Through the Phillipines
I have always been interested in my heritage, thus I do my best to indulge myself in the culture of the Philippines. As a result, my pilgrimage will take
place in the Philippines, but not just to go and see the sights and enjoy the food, but to find a rainbow Eucalyptus tree, "The tree is the only Eucalyptus
species found naturally in the northern hemisphere. And yes, it's also native in the Philippines, but it's not found solely in that part of the country,
but in other islands as well, such as Negros."(The Rainbow Tree of Bago City) This journey will test my knowledge of the botany and wildlife in
the Philippines, without ever being there myself. With the hope of obtaining knowledge and experiences that my ancestor may have endured that
will possibly have a life lasting effect on me. Within the Philippines, multiple languages are spoken, due to the very tribal attributes that the
Philippines has. Thus, before I begin on my journey, I would have to learn and relearn some of the languages including, but not limited to,
"Tagalog, Ilocano, and Bisaya..."(Major Languages of the Philippines) so that I may be able to communicate on my own without the need for an
interpreter, to be somewhat self sufficient. Another barrier will be the weather, for the Philippines tends to have more humidity and rain than Texas,
thus may cause my body to take time to adapt to the climate, since there is also a slight decrease in the average elevation between the Philippine and
Texas. Also, transportation will be an issue when I am hopping from island to island, for the Philippines is a chain of dormant and inactive volcanic
Islands. For the four main forms of transportation I will most likely use while I am in the Philippines will be a Jeepney, which is a twin–benched
jitney bus, seating about a dozen passengers, "As American troops began to leave the Philippines at the end of World War II, hundreds of surplus
jeeps were sold or given to local Filipinos. Locals stripped down the jeeps to accommodate several passengers, added metal roofs for shade, and
decorated the vehicles with vibrant colors and bright chrome hood ornaments" (History of the Philippine Jeepney ) A second form of transportation

C Gattii Research Paper
There is a risk of C. gattii in tropical areas and the Pacific Northwest. There are many factors that contribute to this risk. How it is transmitted,
environmental causes, locations of infection, and prevention. It is important to understand the risk before traveling so you don't become infected. To
learn more about this risk we will look at areas in which the fungi exists, who's susceptible, and how to keep from getting sick. Cryptococcus gattii is a
fungus that lives in the soil associated with certain trees and causes the infection C. gattii Cryptococcus's. In mild climates, the fungus survives in soil
and grows in tree bark. Douglas–firs carry the fungus. The fungus occurs in the top 15cm of the soil, on trees, wood chips, mulch, and other natural
"reservoirs." Fungus spores are aerosolized through soil disturbance. (https://www.emlab.com/s/sampling/env–report–03–2012.html) The microscopic
fungus C. gattii can infect people after breathing it in from the environment. Cryptococcus's affects the lungs or the central nervous system; mainly the
brain and spinal cord. When the brain is infected they call it cryptococcal meningitis. Both humans and animals can become infected after inhaling

Disease Spread Of New Zealand
Disease Risk Profiles
Introduction: As the world progress in the trade and rapid human movement from one place to another, the spread of pathogens also progresses (WHO,
2001). There are many ways that a pathogen can get into a new country. Usually the entry of pathogen into New Zealand is less due to its geographical
location. But, there are pathogens getting into the country. This might be because of an undetectable pathogen, pathogens with no symptoms and other
related reasons. For better understanding of the mode of entry, the pathogen pathway and other properties of a pathogen we will consider a fungi
Puccinia psidii and a virus called Plum pox. It is notable that the detection techniques, the means of disease spread varies from one pathogen to another.
Puccinia psidii
Geographical spread: Puccinia psidii is a fungi, indigenous to Brazil. In 1884, it was first observed in the guava fruit and hence was named as guava
rust. Later in 1934, the disease spread to Central America and Caribbean island causing a major devastation. The reason behind this spread is still
unclear (Tommerup et al., 2003). This fungi is found in China, Southern and Central America, Japan, Africa and Australia (Jolanda Roux et al., 2013).
It is notable that a similar type of fungi, 'Puccinia asparagi' causing rust entered New Zealand from Australia in 1973 (Viljanen et al., 2006).
Fungi properties and symptoms: Guava rust causes rust most commonly in the flowering buds, fruits

The Koala Essay
The Koala
Inroduction
The koala is the Australian jewel. It has very furry, ash colored hair, a rubbery black nose, sharp claws, fuzzy ears, and a grizzly personality, or should I
say, koalality. If you kill a koala, you'll make a million off their fur! They would sell the fur to coat companies and make coats out ofkoala fur.
Well, sadly enough, too many people are making millions on koalas. That's why they're endangered species.
Habitat
The koala is distributed along the eastern coastal semi–tropical forests of Australia, ranging from north Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and a
small area in the south of Australia.
Breeding
The male ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has slowed down a lot since it was first introduced to the koala population, but the virus is still going around (chylamydia psittaci is an endangered
virus.) The koala population is also still falling due to destroyed habitats. The developers are coming into koala habitat and cutting down eucalyptus,
selling it and building homes. By the 2030's, the koalas will have no place to live. Now, sadly, in Sydney, koalas must cross the street to get to another
eucalyptus tree. They have to go to another eucalyptus tree every once and a while because that tree is the same tree from the same forest.
A lot of koalas are now becoming roadkill.
General Information
The koala is a one of a kind animal. It is the only one of its kind.
There are two sub–species of koala though, in which there is the tiniest difference. The southern one has a darker colored fur than the northern because
it is colder in the south. The koala has only one relative, the wombat. Koalas and wombats share a common ancestor from some 25 million years ago on
the landmass Lauasia (an ancient landmass that separated to make South America,
Africa, and Australia.) Most people think that the koala is related to bears, that is not true, the koala is an aboreal (tree dwelling) bear. Most people
also think that the koala is not harmful, that's wrong. The koala is more like a grizzly bear than a teddy bear. The koala is dangerous

The Ferocactus Latispinus
Assignment #2 The ferocactus latispinus, commonly known as the crow's claw cactus, is a barrel cactus originated from Mexico. The cactus is in the
phylum Tracheophyta and of the family Cactaceae, with three recognized subspecies. It resides in the states of Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Jalisco,
QuerГ©taro, Zacatecas, Coahuila, Oaxaca, Hidalgo, San Luis PotosГ, Puebla, and Mexico State. The crow's claw grows in mountain elevations of ten
thousand feet, and blooms between the months of October and March. Goats are a great factor in dispersing viable seeds of the cactus. (IUCN) The
body of the crow's claw cactus is barrel–like, and averages approximately ten to fifteen inches in height. Fourteen to twenty–three ribs and grey–black
areoles compose the body of the cactus, along with four large central spines. The cactus blooms yellow or pink–purple flowers in late autumn or the
early winter, and are 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. (Faucon) A distinctive difference between crow's claw cactus and other plants is that cacti have stems
which function as leaves. Because cacti do not have leaves, stems contain main photosynthetic organs, areoles, and water storage tissues. In addition,
stems are coated with a cuticle, a waxy layer that prevents water loss. A possible hypothesis as to why cacti, specifically the ferocactus latispinus, have
stems rather than leaves relates to the climate in which cacti grow; environments in which cacti grow in are relatively hot and dry, with little

Soap Review: A Review Of Proraso Shaving Soap Review
Proraso Shaving Soap Review
Proraso shaving soap is definitely a standout. It was able to fill up what some other shaving soaps are lacking. This Italian made soap has a relatively
longer lifespan and is even less expensive than most shaving creams and gels out there. Moreover, its classic eucalyptus and menthol scent is a
standout. This would be further elaborated below.
Features and Specifications
Longer Lifespan
Typically, shaving soaps contain 2.5 ounces of their product. But what makes Proraso shaving soap different is that it is available in an ounce
double to that of the typical shaving soaps we see. It contains 5 ounces, at least, which can last for up to six months. In the short run, the price
might seem pricey for you, but in the long run, you'll realize that you'll be able to save more. Just buy 2 two Prorasos, which can cost you at least
$20, and it can already last for a year, as compared to buying the typical 2.5 ounce shaving soaps, which can cost you $8 per piece. And for it to last for
a year, you need four, so that might cost you at least $32. So, you can actually save more money when you use Proraso shaving soap.

Marsupials
The Koala
Among the many different marsupials in the world, there is one that stands out and is recognized, not only for its looks, but also for the hardships
that it deals with in being a koala. The koala originated in Australia, and was discovered by trappers around the time of 1798. Many rare and exotic
animals have been found in Australia, because of its remoteness and isolation from most of the civilized world. Australia has been described as a huge
ark, a giant lifeboat, cut off from contact with the rest of the world and carrying with it a group of unique creatures (Serventy 1975). The creatures that
inhabit Australia are made up of many different classifications of animal groups that have found themselves all living ... Show more content on

Once on the tree it can either jump foot by foot up until they reach safety, or slowly climb to any given point in the forest by climbing from tree to tree.
The koala is also a fantastic swimmer. Although they are very strong swimmers they seem to be somewhat clumsy moving along with almost all of its
body submerged. There are several sightings of the koala swimming in bays and along reefs in order to avoid walking on land and take the risk of
running into predators.
Mating season in the jungles of Australia is extremely noticeable, due to the call of the koala during this time. The koala's call is described as a
harsh, grating sound, like a handsaw going through a thin board (Phillips 1990). There is one story in which a man was working with a chain saw
when he looked up and saw a large koala coming toward him. The animal grabbed him by the pants and bit his leg and wrist, when it was captured
and placed in a box the animal made a very loud, growling cry (Serventy 1975). It is believed that when the koala heard the noise of the chain saw it
felt it had to defend its territory with any means necessary. When the baby koala is born it is just a little bit bigger than a human fingernail. During its
youth it spends its time in its mothers pouch, just like the ever–famous Australian animal the kangaroo. While in the pouch there are the teats of the
mother for the baby to feed on. The mother koala can continue all of her daily routine with the baby in the pouch. When the

The House on Mango Street
When I grow up, I want to be a black gum tree. Black gum trees are known for their internal strength. Instead of dwelling on outward beauty, they
spend more time focusing on their inner growth and developing their core. Only after they have achieved this goal can they produce beautiful fruits that
draw animals near to them. Any surfaces that the berries touch are stained as to say, "I was here and made a permanent difference." After they have
utilized their outward influences, they use their internal scars and hollow places to protect the animals surrounding around it. If human lives were to

Now the slab can be seen as a secondary result deriving from the poor condition of the roots. The roots of the trees act as a metaphor for the
community on Mango Street, which supports Esperanza's development. Because the roots of the community on Mango Street are tangled in
cycles of tragic abuse, Esperanza is deprived of the essential social and ethical requirements she needs to grow. When Esperanza explains that the
trees "send ferocious roots beneath the ground", she is implying that the trees are trying to dig deeper in order to find an essential element for their
growth (Cisneros 74). New visitors to her neighborhood roll their windows up tightly, which shows it is not an environment that allows children to
develop properly (Cisneros 28). Because of the deficit her community is causing her, she is unable to grow to her full potential, and resorts to
digging deeper within herself just as the roots of the trees do. A problem arises when trees try to do this because the roots are more susceptible to
disease. Keeping with the metaphor, Esperanza shows symptoms similar to a tree that has attracted the heart rot disease. This disease is characterized
by external problems seeping through the roots, which lead to the decay of the heartwood of a tree, and eventually its overall health. Esperanza is
obviously being fed infectious ideas from her misshapen community, and has begun to let it eat away at her heart. This cycle is started by the roots

EO is frequently used to treat viral infections such as influenza and the common cold. EO is also regarded to have antimicrobial activity against
pathogenic bacteria, therefore it is also used to treat wounds to prevent infection.
Penicillin G.
Penicillin G. is also known as Benzylpenicillin. It is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. Usually Penicillin G is obtained from microbial
sources such as Escherichia coli (Cole, 1969). It works on most Gram–positive bacteria, and some Gram–negative bacteria.
Gentamicin
Gentamicin is also an antibiotic, like Penicillin, and is used to treat a number of bacterial infections. Unlike Penicillin, Gentamicin is more effective on
Gram–negative bacteria, and only works on a limited number of Gram–positive bacteria. It was first used in 1963 as the first clinically useful
broad–spectrum antibiotic. (Edson RS, Terrel CL, 1999).
Trigene
Trigene is a disinfectant and was used in the experiment as a positive control.
Sterile water
Sterile water was used in the experiment as a negative control.
Escherichia Coli
Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a pathogenic, Gram–negative bacteria, and was used in the experiment to determine the antimicrobial activity of TTO and
EO.

Eucalyptus Globulus' Effect on the Germination of Radish...
The purpose of the project was to determine whether Eucalyptus globulus had an effect on the germination of radish seeds. It was hypothesized that
Eucalyptus globulus would have a negative effect on the germination of the seeds and their growth.
Before a seed can germinate it must first shed the seed coat, a protective outer layer that protects the seed from parasites, injury, and unfavorable
temperatures. Inside the seed coat is the embryo which contains the root and first leaves of the plant, called cotyledons. After the seed coat has been
shed the root emerges first so that it can absorb water and nutrients. After the roots have come out of the embryo the cotyledons will follow. Some seeds

Allelopathic chemicals can also exist in soil, affecting the surround plants and those planted afterwards. Studies have shown that Leucaena
leucocephala, a tree promoted for water conservation and revegetation, contains a toxic amino acid in its leaves and foliage that prevents the growth
of other trees but not its own seedlings. Research has also shown that this species reduces the yield of wheat and increases the yield of rice. Other
allelopathic plants include mango, box elder, broccoli, and Eucalyptus. A study was conducted at Gomal University that tested the allelopathic effects of
Eucalyptus camaldulensis L. on the germination and seedling growth of wheat. The leaves of E. camaldulensis trees were washed and dried and then
filtered to create a one hundred percent solution as well as ten percent, fifteen percent, and twenty percent. These solutions were tested on twelve
varieties of wheat. The results showed that there was a significant decrease in germination counts with increasing levels of Eucalyptus aqueous extract
concentration. All twelve varieties of wheat were adversely affected by the twenty percent concentration of Eucalyptus extract. It was observed that
there was a direct relationship between the number of normal seedlings and the extract concentration. The results suggested that the E. camaldulensis L.
leaf aqueous extract could reduce normal seedlings even in low concentrations.

Dystopia Of Maya

  • 1. Dystopia of Maya I fell into the depths of Maya's beautiful green eyes and not even the currently setting sun could compare to their beauty. She pressed once more against the rusted iron gate that separated us, pushed it closed and once again took away my opportunity of joining my family, and let a pained cry of sadness escape her lips before turning into the shadows and dissolving into the darkness. Then the scene carried on as it had before as if Maya had been only an apparition. The crickets resumed their songs and when the frogs in the nearby creek began the harmony, I knew I was alone. The loneliness crept upon me like the cold of a moonless night. I stood and retraced the steps I had already taken earlier, that then had seemed to be nothing but magical when they led me to my wife, but now as they led me passed the unknown dilapidated shack that served as a safe haven for my wife and I and along the overgrown dirt roads of Eucalyptus, my steps seemed to lead me to my death. I walked along the ruined remains of life on the ground. Old cottages and fields were dotted along the countryside like relics of a forgotten era. The fields, no longer a youthful green, were brown, shriveled and unfriendly to the farmers of Eucalyptus who tried in vain to procure a single sprout to appease the Council. Skeletons masquerading about in clothes and shoes worked on the fields feeding, begging, and fighting their fields in desperation. The picture should have been and normally was accompanied by ... • 2. Essay on Diversity and Distribution of Eucalyptus Diversity and Distribution of Eucalyptus Eucalyptus is a genus of hardwood evergreen forest trees, and is the most conspicuous element of Australian vegetation. Its members constitute 95 percent of the continent's forests and are the dominant trees of Australia's woodlands (Kelly 1969). It is an extremely diverse group, with approximately 500 named species and subspecies and nearly 200 described hybrid varieties (Blakely 1965). The genus is overwhelmingly endemic to the Australian mainland and Tasmania. Only seven species occur naturally outside thecontinent, mostly on the islands of Papua/New Guinea and the Indonisian island of Timor, and only two of these species are not represented on the Australian continent. Eucalyptus is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, in response to this great diversity in habitat, Eucalyptus has, through many generations, adapted and speciated to become one of the most diverse living groups on earth. The diversity of the genus lies not only in its shear number of species, but also in the various forms, features, and morphological characters it displays. Because of its great range of habitation, the widespread Eucalyptus displays a variety of shapes and sizes. The Snow Gum (E. pauciflora), which must deal with the harsh conditions of high altitudes, takes the form of twisted, windswept shrubs, often barely reaching three feet in height (Kelly 1969). However, the Mountain Ash (E. regnans) of the wet, rich–loamed Victorian and Tasmanian forests, often exceeds heights of 320 feet, making it the tallest Australian species and the tallest hardwood in the world. Most forest species rarely attain heights of 150 feet, while woodland species generally do not exceed 80 feet but have a short, thick trunk with heavy limbs to support a broad, spreading crown. Sometimes the same species occurs in both forests and woodlands, assuming the form characteristic of the vegetative type in which it grows (Hall, Johnston, and Chippendale 1970). A number of species exhibit a shrub–like dwarf form in which several stems arise from a large, woody rootstock composed of stem tissue (called a lignotuber) imbedded in shallow soil. ... • 3. Asexual Reproduction Is Common Among Living Things Asexual reproduction is a style of reproduction which offspring are formed by a single organism, and inherit the genes of one parent only; unlike sexual reproduction, which requires the genes from two parent organisms in order to create an offspring, asexual reproduction occurs when a single organism. This causes the offspring to almost a duplicate of the one parent it inherits its genes from. Asexual reproduction is done externally and it commonly used by sea creatures like seahorses, Parthenogenesis, Copperheads, coral, sea anemones and starfish. It is also used in some plants like for example strawberries, potatoes and onions. And it is used by decomposers like fungi and bacteria. Asexual reproduction is common among living things and takes a variety of forms. Vegetative propagationDescriptionExamples LignotuberA starchy, woody swelling of the root crown which some plants have adapted it provides protection against destruction of theplant stem, such as by fire, it also serves to help contain water for very dry conditions. The crown contains buds from where new stems sprout from, it also acts as a container which stores of starch, that can support a period of growth in the absence of photosynthesis. It is found commonly in Australian flora, in resilience to the high possibility of bush fires that occur annually and the high humidity and heat rates. In Australia this feature is found in the eucalyptus tree, marginata(Jarrah), most mallees, and many Banksia species. ... • 4. The Effect Of Modern Medicine On Health, Wellness, And... As interest in natural means to improved health, wellness and fitness grows, essential oils are gaining in popularity in the United States. The healing powers, on both physiological and psychological levels, have been utilized in Europe and the rest of the world for some time. Natural, pure essential oils used in aromatherapy have a very diverse range of healing properties – as diverse as the hundreds of plants from which they are distilled. The effects range from antibiotic (without incurrence of resistance as with pharmaceutical drugs), to antiviral (the power of which modern medicine has yet to replicate), to anti–inflammatory and analgesic, with many having 'homeostatic ' properties – meaning they support balance in many of the body 's systems. Here 's brief look at ten essential oils commonly used in the home health care kit – the list and descriptions are not meant to be exhaustive; rather, let them stimulate your interest in furthering your knowledge of these oils, their applications, and the vast potential of the many, many other essential oils available today. Tea TreeEssential Oil – When first examined for it 's antiseptic properties, Tea Tree essential oil was found to be 100 times more powerful than carbolic acid – the medical standard at the time. Tea tree has an extremely broad range of antibiotic, antiviral and antifungal properties that have been confirmed by modern scientific research. Often used topically on small wounds, Tea ... • 5. Journey In The Philippines : My Journey Through The... Journey Through the Phillipines I have always been interested in my heritage, thus I do my best to indulge myself in the culture of the Philippines. As a result, my pilgrimage will take place in the Philippines, but not just to go and see the sights and enjoy the food, but to find a rainbow Eucalyptus tree, "The tree is the only Eucalyptus species found naturally in the northern hemisphere. And yes, it's also native in the Philippines, but it's not found solely in that part of the country, but in other islands as well, such as Negros."(The Rainbow Tree of Bago City) This journey will test my knowledge of the botany and wildlife in the Philippines, without ever being there myself. With the hope of obtaining knowledge and experiences that my ancestor may have endured that will possibly have a life lasting effect on me. Within the Philippines, multiple languages are spoken, due to the very tribal attributes that the Philippines has. Thus, before I begin on my journey, I would have to learn and relearn some of the languages including, but not limited to, "Tagalog, Ilocano, and Bisaya..."(Major Languages of the Philippines) so that I may be able to communicate on my own without the need for an interpreter, to be somewhat self sufficient. Another barrier will be the weather, for the Philippines tends to have more humidity and rain than Texas, thus may cause my body to take time to adapt to the climate, since there is also a slight decrease in the average elevation between the Philippine and Texas. Also, transportation will be an issue when I am hopping from island to island, for the Philippines is a chain of dormant and inactive volcanic Islands. For the four main forms of transportation I will most likely use while I am in the Philippines will be a Jeepney, which is a twin–benched jitney bus, seating about a dozen passengers, "As American troops began to leave the Philippines at the end of World War II, hundreds of surplus jeeps were sold or given to local Filipinos. Locals stripped down the jeeps to accommodate several passengers, added metal roofs for shade, and decorated the vehicles with vibrant colors and bright chrome hood ornaments" (History of the Philippine Jeepney ) A second form of transportation ... • 6. C Gattii Research Paper There is a risk of C. gattii in tropical areas and the Pacific Northwest. There are many factors that contribute to this risk. How it is transmitted, environmental causes, locations of infection, and prevention. It is important to understand the risk before traveling so you don't become infected. To learn more about this risk we will look at areas in which the fungi exists, who's susceptible, and how to keep from getting sick. Cryptococcus gattii is a fungus that lives in the soil associated with certain trees and causes the infection C. gattii Cryptococcus's. In mild climates, the fungus survives in soil and grows in tree bark. Douglas–firs carry the fungus. The fungus occurs in the top 15cm of the soil, on trees, wood chips, mulch, and other natural "reservoirs." Fungus spores are aerosolized through soil disturbance. (https://www.emlab.com/s/sampling/env–report–03–2012.html) The microscopic fungus C. gattii can infect people after breathing it in from the environment. Cryptococcus's affects the lungs or the central nervous system; mainly the brain and spinal cord. When the brain is infected they call it cryptococcal meningitis. • 7. Disease Spread Of New Zealand Disease Risk Profiles Introduction: As the world progress in the trade and rapid human movement from one place to another, the spread of pathogens also progresses (WHO, 2001). There are many ways that a pathogen can get into a new country. Usually the entry of pathogen into New Zealand is less due to its geographical location. But, there are pathogens getting into the country. This might be because of an undetectable pathogen, pathogens with no symptoms and other related reasons. For better understanding of the mode of entry, the pathogen pathway and other properties of a pathogen we will consider a fungi Puccinia psidii and a virus called Plum pox. It is notable that the detection techniques, the means of disease spread varies from one pathogen to another. Puccinia psidii Geographical spread: Puccinia psidii is a fungi, indigenous to Brazil. In 1884, it was first observed in the guava fruit and hence was named as guava rust. Later in 1934, the disease spread to Central America and Caribbean island causing a major devastation. The reason behind this spread is still unclear (Tommerup et al., 2003). • 8. The Koala Essay The Koala Inroduction The koala is the Australian jewel. It has very furry, ash colored hair, a rubbery black nose, sharp claws, fuzzy ears, and a grizzly personality, or should I say, koalality. If you kill a koala, you'll make a million off their fur! They would sell the fur to coat companies and make coats out ofkoala fur. Well, sadly enough, too many people are making millions on koalas. That's why they're endangered species. Habitat The koala is distributed along the eastern coastal semi–tropical forests of Australia, ranging from north Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and a small area in the south of Australia. Breeding The male ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has slowed down a lot since it was first introduced to the koala population, but the virus is still going around (chylamydia psittaci is an endangered virus.) The koala population is also still falling due to destroyed habitats. The developers are coming into koala habitat and cutting down eucalyptus, selling it and building homes. By the 2030's, the koalas will have no place to live. Now, sadly, in Sydney, koalas must cross the street to get to another eucalyptus tree. They have to go to another eucalyptus tree every once and a while because that tree is the same tree from the same forest. A lot of koalas are now becoming roadkill. General Information The koala is a one of a kind animal. It is the only one of its kind. There are two sub–species of koala though, in which there is the tiniest difference. The southern one has a darker colored fur than the northern because it is colder in the south. The koala has only one relative, the wombat. Koalas and wombats share a common ancestor from some 25 million years ago on the landmass Lauasia (an ancient landmass that separated to make South America, Africa, and Australia.) Most people think that the koala is related to bears, that is not true, the koala is an aboreal (tree dwelling) bear. Most people also think that the koala is not harmful, that's wrong. The koala is more like a grizzly bear than a teddy bear. The koala is dangerous

  • 10. The Ferocactus Latispinus Assignment #2 The ferocactus latispinus, commonly known as the crow's claw cactus, is a barrel cactus originated from Mexico. The cactus is in the phylum Tracheophyta and of the family Cactaceae, with three recognized subspecies. It resides in the states of Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Jalisco, QuerГ©taro, Zacatecas, Coahuila, Oaxaca, Hidalgo, San Luis PotosĐ“, Puebla, and Mexico State. The crow's claw grows in mountain elevations of ten thousand feet, and blooms between the months of October and March. Goats are a great factor in dispersing viable seeds of the cactus. (IUCN) The body of the crow's claw cactus is barrel–like, and averages approximately ten to fifteen inches in height. Fourteen to twenty–three ribs and grey–black areoles compose the body of the cactus, along with four large central spines. The cactus blooms yellow or pink–purple flowers in late autumn or the early winter, and are 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. (Faucon) A distinctive difference between crow's claw cactus and other plants is that cacti have stems which function as leaves. Because cacti do not have leaves, stems contain main photosynthetic organs, areoles, and water storage tissues. In addition, stems are coated with a cuticle, a waxy layer that prevents water loss. A possible hypothesis as to why cacti, specifically the ferocactus latispinus, have stems rather than leaves relates to the climate in which cacti grow; environments in which cacti grow in are relatively hot and dry, with little ... Moreover, its classic eucalyptus and menthol scent is a standout. This would be further elaborated below. Features and Specifications Longer Lifespan Typically, shaving soaps contain 2.5 ounces of their product. But what makes Proraso shaving soap different is that it is available in an ounce double to that of the typical shaving soaps we see. Essay on Koala Marsupials The Koala Among the many different marsupials in the world, there is one that stands out and is recognized, not only for its looks, but also for the hardships that it deals with in being a koala. The koala originated in Australia, and was discovered by trappers around the time of 1798. Many rare and exotic animals have been found in Australia, because of its remoteness and isolation from most of the civilized world. Australia has been described as a huge ark, a giant lifeboat, cut off from contact with the rest of the world and carrying with it a group of unique creatures (Serventy 1975). The creatures that inhabit Australia are made up of many different classifications of animal groups that have found themselves all living ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once on the tree it can either jump foot by foot up until they reach safety, or slowly climb to any given point in the forest by climbing from tree to tree. The koala is also a fantastic swimmer. Although they are very strong swimmers they seem to be somewhat clumsy moving along with almost all of its body submerged. There are several sightings of the koala swimming in bays and along reefs in order to avoid walking on land and take the risk of running into predators. Mating season in the jungles of Australia is extremely noticeable, due to the call of the koala during this time. The koala's call is described as a harsh, grating sound, like a handsaw going through a thin board (Phillips 1990). There is one story in which a man was working with a chain saw when he looked up and saw a large koala coming toward him. The animal grabbed him by the pants and bit his leg and wrist, when it was captured and placed in a box the animal made a very loud, growling cry (Serventy 1975). It is believed that when the koala heard the noise of the chain saw it felt it had to defend its territory with any means necessary. When the baby koala is born it is just a little bit bigger than a human fingernail. During its youth it spends its time in its mothers pouch, just like the ever–famous Australian animal the kangaroo. While in the pouch there are the teats of the mother for the baby to feed on. The mother koala can continue all of her daily routine with the baby in the pouch. When the ... • 14. Emotional Typography Essay Emotional Typography I know as soon as we get to the airport that once we are in California I will want to be by myself in the hills. Though I haven't yet seen the yellow hills that roll up around us like huge haystacks, dotted here and there with black cattle. Yellow hills? They burn the hills seasonally, to trigger new growth. Black cattle? Where are the Jerseys, the Holsteins? Those are beef cows, not dairy cows. My family is going to California to celebrate my cousin's Bar Mitzvah, and I am going to California to celebrate land. I haven't yet seen the hills, but I know what I am looking for when we are in the airport and it feels like an infirmary the towering–white–floating ceilings an empty cathedral hall an ... This is what is touchable. Everything else is fabrication. This is what is touchable; therefore, this is what makes us feel. We drive up Twin Peaks. There are a few bold stragglers running toward the top. We drive up Twin Peaks and it is beautiful, you can't see an inch of the city, it is floating in fog. You can see the fog. Dad says we have to come back on a clear day. They built a look –out point up there, but they also stuck a post in the ground on a mound that offered topographical information. I run up the mound, then down, then read. The petal face of a bush monkey flower, of the snapdragon family, "grins." It is a yellow–orange tubular flower, with sticky glands on its leaves and stems, which render it useful as a bandage. Yarrow was named by the Greek warrior Achilles who used it to heal soldiers' wounds. I see a cloud in California: bird–mouth, eye–dive, I write. A complete feather. Life lives in life. All I do in California is record life forms: in painstakingly literal terms; in blatheringly romantic terms. Why do I write? Because I am afraid of losing things. Because metaphors are waiting to be picked like bush monkey flowers and we are dying for their bandages. The world is a big open wound we keep working at.

  • 17. The House on Mango Street When I grow up, I want to be a black gum tree. Black gum trees are known for their internal strength. Instead of dwelling on outward beauty, they spend more time focusing on their inner growth and developing their core. Only after they have achieved this goal can they produce beautiful fruits that draw animals near to them. Any surfaces that the berries touch are stained as to say, "I was here and made a permanent difference." After they have utilized their outward influences, they use their internal scars and hollow places to protect the animals surrounding around it. If human lives were to reflect the concepts of the black gum tree, governments, individuals, and communities would be radically transformed. While this is a beautiful image, ... The roots of the trees act as a metaphor for the community on Mango Street, which supports Esperanza's development. Because the roots of the community on Mango Street are tangled in cycles of tragic abuse, Esperanza is deprived of the essential social and ethical requirements she needs to grow. When Esperanza explains that the trees "send ferocious roots beneath the ground", she is implying that the trees are trying to dig deeper in order to find an essential element for their growth (Cisneros 74). New visitors to her neighborhood roll their windows up tightly, which shows it is not an environment that allows children to develop properly (Cisneros 28). Because of the deficit her community is causing her, she is unable to grow to her full potential, and resorts to digging deeper within herself just as the roots of the trees do. A problem arises when trees try to do this because the roots are more susceptible to disease. Keeping with the metaphor, Esperanza shows symptoms similar to a tree that has attracted the heart rot disease. This disease is characterized by external problems seeping through the roots, which lead to the decay of the heartwood of a tree, and eventually its overall health. Esperanza is obviously being fed infectious ideas from her misshapen community, and has begun to let it eat away at her heart. This cycle is started by the roots ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... EO is frequently used to treat viral infections such as influenza and the common cold. EO is also regarded to have antimicrobial activity against pathogenic bacteria, therefore it is also used to treat wounds to prevent infection. Penicillin G. Penicillin G. is also known as Benzylpenicillin. It is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. Usually Penicillin G is obtained from microbial sources such as Escherichia coli (Cole, 1969). It works on most Gram–positive bacteria, and some Gram–negative bacteria. Gentamicin Gentamicin is also an antibiotic, like Penicillin, and is used to treat a number of bacterial infections. Unlike Penicillin, Gentamicin is more effective on Gram–negative bacteria, and only works on a limited number of Gram–positive bacteria. It was first used in 1963 as the first clinically useful broad–spectrum antibiotic. (Edson RS, Terrel CL, 1999). Trigene Trigene is a disinfectant and was used in the experiment as a positive control. Sterile water Sterile water was used in the experiment as a negative control. Escherichia Coli Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a pathogenic, Gram–negative bacteria, and was used in the experiment to determine the antimicrobial activity of TTO and EO. Methods Choosing reagents Before the preparation for the experiment could be started, reagents needed to be picked. In the case of this experiment, the reagents were chosen to be TTO and EO. • 22. Eucalyptus Globulus' Effect on the Germination of Radish... The purpose of the project was to determine whether Eucalyptus globulus had an effect on the germination of radish seeds. It was hypothesized that Eucalyptus globulus would have a negative effect on the germination of the seeds and their growth. Before a seed can germinate it must first shed the seed coat, a protective outer layer that protects the seed from parasites, injury, and unfavorable temperatures. Inside the seed coat is the embryo which contains the root and first leaves of the plant, called cotyledons. After the seed coat has been shed the root emerges first so that it can absorb water and nutrients. After the roots have come out of the embryo the cotyledons will follow. Some seeds need certain conditions to germinate and go ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Allelopathic chemicals can also exist in soil, affecting the surround plants and those planted afterwards. Studies have shown that Leucaena leucocephala, a tree promoted for water conservation and revegetation, contains a toxic amino acid in its leaves and foliage that prevents the growth of other trees but not its own seedlings. Research has also shown that this species reduces the yield of wheat and increases the yield of rice. Other allelopathic plants include mango, box elder, broccoli, and Eucalyptus. A study was conducted at Gomal University that tested the allelopathic effects of Eucalyptus camaldulensis L. on the germination and seedling growth of wheat. The leaves of E. camaldulensis trees were washed and dried and then filtered to create a one hundred percent solution as well as ten percent, fifteen percent, and twenty percent. These solutions were tested on twelve varieties of wheat. The results showed that there was a significant decrease in germination counts with increasing levels of Eucalyptus aqueous extract concentration. All twelve varieties of wheat were adversely affected by the twenty percent concentration of Eucalyptus extract. It was observed that there was a direct relationship between the number of normal seedlings and the extract concentration. The results suggested that the E. camaldulensis L. leaf aqueous extract could reduce normal seedlings even in low concentrations. Eucalyptus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
