Parables of Jesus Series
"The Wise and Foolish Builder”
Matthew 7:24-27
While Pastor Rick is on a sabbatical, each Sunday we will have a message
on selected parables. This week, Youth Director Kim Knudsvig shared a
message on "The Wise and Foolish Builder".
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into
practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain
came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that
house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But
everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into
practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came
down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that
house, and it fell with a great crash.”
As Jesus was speaking to the crowds at the Sermon on the Mount, his
message included many of the central tenets of Christian discipleship -
the Beatitudes, the Lord's Prayer and the Golden Rule, among others.
His parable on the wise and foolish builder is an admonishment that we
must do more than just listen to the words but we must put them into
practice.
Each builder had the same constants - hearing His words, building a
house and facing the storm. The difference came in the choice each
made about how and where to build that house. The wise builder did
more than just listen ... he obeyed.
2. Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what
it says.
James 1:22
