“His Eyes Were Focused
On the Cross”
Luke 19:28-44
Palm Sunday
Luke 19:28-40
28
After Jesus said this, he continued on ahead, going up to
Jerusalem. 29
As Jesus came to Bethphage and Bethany on the Mount
of Olives, he gave two disciples a task. 30
He said, “ Go into the
village over there. When you enter it, you will find tied up there a
colt that no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31
If
someone asks, ‘Why are you untying it?’ just say, ‘Its master needs
it.’ ”
32
Those who had been sent found it exactly as he had said.33
As they
were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “ Why are you
untying the colt?” 34
They replied, “ Its master needs it. ” 35
They
brought it to Jesus, threw their clothes on the colt, and lifted Jesus
onto it.
36
As Jesus rode along, they spread their clothes on the road.
37
As Jesus approached the road leading down from the Mount of
2. Olives, the whole throng of his disciples began rejoicing. They
praised God with a loud voice because of all the mighty things they
had seen. 38
They said, “ Blessings on the king who comes in the
name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest
heavens.”
39
Some of the Pharisees from the crowd said to Jesus,
“Teacher, scold your disciples! Tell them to stop!” 40
He answered,
“ I tell you, if they were silent, the stones would shout. ”
Prophecy was being fulfilled that day...
Zechariah 9:9
Look, your king will come to you. He is righteous and victorious. He
is humble and riding on a colt, the offspring of a donkey.
Psalm 118:25-26a
25
LORD, please save us: LORD, please let us succeed! 26
The one who
enters in the LORD’s name is blessed...
Luke 18:31-33
31
Jesus took the Twelve aside and said, “ Look, we’re going up to
Jerusalem, and everything written about the Human One by the
prophets will be accomplished. 32
He will be handed over to the
Gentiles. He will be ridiculed, mistreated, and spit on. 33
After
torturing him, they will kill him. On the third day, he will rise up. ”
Jesus came NOT as a Conquering King but as the Lamb of God
The Jewish leaders were threatened by Christ… and the TRUTH
Luke 19:39-44
39
Some of the Pharisees from the crowd said to Jesus,
“Teacher, scold your disciples! Tell them to stop! ” 40
He answered,
“ I tell you, if they were silent, the stones would shout. ”
41
As Jesus came to the city and observed it, he wept over it. 42
He
said, “ If only you knew on this of all days the things that lead to
peace. But now they are hidden from your eyes. 43
The time will
come when your enemies will build fortifications around you,
encircle you, and attack you from all sides. 44
They will crush you
completely, you and the people within you. They won’t leave one
stone on top of another within you, because you didn’t recognize the
time of your gracious visit from God.
Jesus is not a “conquering king” as the world would define
it. He’s a King who came to serve and sacrifice.
For Personal or Group Reflection
1. Try to imagine the scene on the day when Jesus rode into
Jerusalem on the colt. What images/thoughts come to your
mind? How would you have responded to His entrance?
2 What kind of reception would Jesus get today if he rode into our
town in such a manner? How would He be treated by the local media?
The city officials? Our community? The Church?
3. Where is your Jerusalem... the place or person(s) you pray would
3. come “to see” God?
4 How does this passage show that Jesus was a different kind of King
than what the world was (is) expecting? Different than what YOU
were (are) expecting? Explain.

Have you signed up for the
Altar Flowers Calendar?
Do you have a special occasion to celebrate? Or simply love the look
of fresh flowers on the church altar on Sunday mornings? Then
please sign up on our new church calendar - across from office. If
each family in the church provides flowers once a year, that would
cover the entire year. Blossoms can be from your yard or garden.
Questions, call Rita at 425-483-3594.
7. Outdoor Adventures -
Gray Whale Watching
April 9 - 10
Gray Whale Search – April 9-10 (Saturday and Sunday). Join us on as
we search for Gray Whales out of Everett.
Gray Whales migrate each spring from Mexico to Alaska. Some of
them make a rest stop in Puget Sound on the journey north. They are
large (about 40 feet long) baleen whales. We will be taking multiple
trips out of the Everett Harbor both days on our 27 foot boat. Each
trip will last about 3 hours (there’s a restroom on our boat).
Please note - this isn’t Sea World so there’s no guarantee we’ll find
them. But we’ll see plenty of marine wildlife regardless and enjoy a
fun day on the water.
If you want to go, please sign up in the Foyer. We have limited
openings so please insure you can go before you sign up.
COST: $10.00 per person – please pay us at the event.
WHERE: Meet at the 10th Street Boat Launch, Everett
Harbor
WHEN: Depends on the time slot you sign up for.
WHAT TO BRING: Water bottle, snacks, & appropriate
clothing – remember it’s colder on the water.
