2. Major stages in child growth and development:
Child growth can be categorized into the following
distinctive stages.
1.Birth-5 years. Right from prenatal to birth, as well as
after, a child needs support. A child needs the support of
adults, the community and the environment.
2. 6-11 years. At this stage a child builds confidence, gains
competence, becomes aware of self and others, forms
ambitions, begins to learn responsibility, gains social skills,
develop cultural and moral values.
3. 12-18 years: this period is a very delicate stage
during which children undergo physical, moral and
emotional changes while advancing to adulthood.
