2. Introduction
Metamorphosis is a biological process by
which
an animal physically develops after birth or
hatching, involving a conspicuous and
relatively abrupt change in the
animal's body structure through
cell growth and differentiation.
Some insects, amphibians, molluscs, crust
aceans, Cnidarians,echinoderms and tunic
ates undergo metamorphosis, which is
usually accompanied by a change
of habitat or behavior.
4. Ametabola
No distinct external changes are
observed in adults and immature stages
except in size and colour.
Each insect which emerge fro egg look
like adult in appearance.
Ametabola doesnot have
metamorphosis in strict sense .
6. Metabola
This type of metamorphosis contains
distinct changes during growth and
development.
Paurometabola :- The immature stages
resembles the adults except in size.
Hemimetabola :-This is incomplete type
of metamorphosis in which accessory
organs known as gills are found in
nymphal stage.
7. Holometabola :- This type of
metamorphosis is also termed as complete
indirect and complete type of
metamorphosis in which 4 stages of insect
are found during its development.i.e
egg larvae pupae adult
Hypermetabola :- This is a complex types
of metamorphosis in this there are several
type of larvae different from each other.
8. Polymetabola :- In some insects from a
single egg more than one larvae has
been seen to hatch out.
9. Types of larvae
Oligopod
these are
characterized by
presence of more or
less well developed
thoracic legs and
the absence of
abdominal
appendages.
Protopod:
emerge in
embryonic
development and
have the internal
system developed.
10. Con……..
Polypod
They have well defined
segmented body
with small thoracis
legs and a number
of abdominal pro-
legs.
Apodous
Theyt are degenerated
type of larvae which
are legless,robust,C-
shaped or spindel
shaped.
11. Types of pupae
Two types of pupae
Decticous : functional mandibles
Adecticous: no functional mandibles
14. Butterfly
The butterfly undergo to complete
metamorphosis
it has all the four developmental stages
namely egg larva pupa adult
EGG :each egg is conical I shape
measuring about 12mm in length and
0.6 mm in breadth.
FIRST INSTER LARVAE: the worm just
after hatching is called as first inster
larvae which is about 3 mm long.
15. SECOND INSTER LARVAE :2 times as
the first inster and on its blackish head ,
a whitish clpeus is visible.
THIRD :the larvae of inster is 4-5 cm in
length with light green .
