Francisco de Goya was a Spanish painter born in 1746 in Zaragoza who moved to Madrid at age 17 to study under his friend Francisco Bayeu. He later married Bayeu's sister and was named court painter in 1789. At age 44, Goya suffered an illness that left him deaf and his paintings became darker in tone. After recovering, he moved to the countryside, and he ultimately died in France in 1828. The document also lists some of Goya's most famous paintings, including The Third of May 1808, Charles IV and His Family, La maja desnuda, La maja vestida, and El quitasol.
