2. CONTENT
• What is nuclear energy
• Two ways to obtain nuclear energy
• Nuclear fission
• Nuclear fusions
• Advantages of nuclear energy
• Disadvantages of nuclear energy
• Countries that uses nuclear energy
• Who discovered nuclear energy and about it
• The risk of nuclear energy
3. WHAT IS NUCLEAR ENERGY ?
Nuclear energy is a powerful source of energy , generated
during a nuclear reaction , by change in the nucleus of an
atom. The source of nuclear energy is the mass of the
nucleus and energy generated during nuclear reaction due
to conversions of mass into energy.
4. TWO WAYS TO OBTAIN NUCLEAR ENERGY
1.Nuclear fission
2.Nuclear fusion
1. Nuclear fission 2. Nuclear fusion
5. 1 .NUCLEAR FISSION
Nuclear fission reaction, the nucleus of a heavy
radioactive element like uranium , plutonium or
thorium splits up into smaller nuclei, when
bombarded by low energy neutrons . A huge amount
of heat Is generated in this process , which is used in
nuclear power plants to generate electricity.
6. 2. NUCLEAR FUSION
Nuclear fusion reaction involves the combination of fusion of two
light elements to form a heavier element and release uncontrollable
energy . Thus it cannot be used to generate electricity , unlike fission
reaction . Did you know that sun’s energy is generated by nuclear
fusion reaction ? The heat and light that we get from sun , is all due
to the continuous reactions going on inside it . We can now imagine
how much energy would be released in the nuclear fusion reaction,
that it is the source of sun’s energy.
7. ADVANTAGES OF NUCLEAR ENERGY
Nuclear plants brings jobs and prosperity to a country .
Provides the world with the most of its electricity .
Not many nuclear have happened ; natural disaster cause more damage.
Canada has easy access to uranium.
Its god for the economy .
Lots of energy is produced from a small amount of uranium.
Does not emit carbon dioxide .
8. DISADVANTAGES OF NUCLEAR ENERGY
• Nuclear bombs can produce radiation and kill people.
• Thunders can make people go blind .
• To loud music may damage someone’s ear.
• The affect of nuclear bomb is until forty five years
• Impacts on the envoirment.
9. COUNTRIES THAT USES NUCLEAR ENERGY
• France
• Russia
• Japan
• Germany
• South Korea
• Ukraine
• Canada
• Spain
• Belgium
• India
10. WHO DISCOVERED NUCLEAR ENERGY AND ABOUT IT
Enrico fermi discovered the nuclear energy.
About :-
Enrico fermi was an Italian physicist and the creator of the world’s
first nuclear reactor, the Chicago pile-1 . He has been called the
“architect of the nuclear age” and the “architect of the atom bomb”.
He was one of very few physicists to excel in both theoretical physics
and experimental physics.
11. THE RISK OF NUCLEAR ENERGY
• Meltdown
• Acute radiation syndrome
• Daily radiation for workers (carcinogenic over time)
• Radiation into groundwater from stored waste.
• Small scale persistent radiation to nearby communities
