3. INTRODUCTION
VWEC Metaverse Directory (Database), an effort to
collect, document, and share information about
education-oriented virtual world communities, is
managed by CVL, the supporting library of VWEC.
WHY CATALOG VIRTUAL WORLDS?
Documenting virtual worlds is important so current and
future generations know what information professionals
and educators have accomplished with virtual worlds.
Recording this information in the present is crucial
because virtual worlds are ever-changing, and once a
simulation disappears, it is difficult (if not impossible)
to find traces of it.

a setting called MAIN
VIEW.
This shows the directory
contents in a LIST form.

This displays the entries in

might search for in the directory, or
ways users might search.

When the directory loads,
it is sorted alphabetically A
to Z by community.
You can scroll through the
list or sort more
specifically.

If you select Filter from the
top row, then choose “Add
Condition,” it will give an
option to look for a
community by name. This
is what the filter defaults
to.

You can change the Filter
to look for other criteria,
such as being able to filter
for communities that
belong to a specific virtual
world.

If you are looking for a
specific type of
educational community,
use the Community Focus
setting and enter the
keyword you want to
search for.

To remove any filter, just
click on the trash can that
appears next to the filter.

• Open the link from the notecard for “VWEC Metaverse
Community Directory”.
• From Main View, select “Filter”.
• Add condition “Community Focus” by using the pulldown for
the first box.
• Choose a community keyword of interest and type it in the
third box.
• Click back on the directory and see the matching entries.

well as Virtual Reality

evolve for
educational use.
