Kiev is one of the best cities of Ukraine

2. Kiev is situated on both banks of the river Dnepr.
The population of this city is more than 3 million people
Kiev is an important highway and railroad junction, an
air transportation hub and a busy river port.
3. According to the chronicles Kiev’s first
citadel was built in the period from the
sixth to eighth centuries. The city was
founded by Slavic people, possibly as
the A.D. 4000s. There is a legend
about three brothers and a beautiful
sister Lybed who settled on the hills.
Kiev was called after the eldest
brother Kyi and became the center of
trade and culture.
In 882 Prince Oleg said," This will be the mother of
all Russian towns!”
4. Old Kiev had two parts:
the Upper Town and the
Lower Town (Podol).
There were big walls
around the Upper Town.
They were 6 meters high
and 18 meters wide.
There were four gates in
the walls. Today we can
see only the Golden
Gate built in 1037.
In Kiev we can admire
by the beauty of old
building.
One of the oldest street
is Khreschatyk.
5. Kiev-Pecherska Lavra
is one of the oldest
monastery with many
ancient churches and
museums.
Andryivsky Uzviz is the
oldest street in Kiev. It’
is a traditional place for
concerts and city holidays
In the center of Kiev
stands Sophia Cathedral,
which was built in 1037.

symbol of Kiev. It became the
main street of the city 200
years ago. It looks lovely in
spring when the chestnut trees
are in blossom. This tree is the
symbol of Kiev

Archangel Michael
is
the emblem of the
city.
7. Independence Square is the place where people of Ukraine
can share the days of sunshine and shadow. It possesses a
special atmosphere of understanding, friendship and
support.
The Monument to the Independence of Ukraine is the most impressive
one. It is the white column, with the statue of Ukrainian girl on the top.
She is stretching her hands with the snowball tree branch into the sky
as if predicting the flourishing future of our country.

establishments in Kiev.

9. Kiev is also famous for its
attractive monuments: the
monument to T.G. Shevchenko,
the monument to Ukrainian
Hetman B. Khmelnitsky, the
statue to Motherland and others

unforgettable.

world biggest centers
where different
festivals, scientific
conferences,
international exhibitions
and world sport events
take place every year.
11. Kievites like to walk along the streets covered with
snow.
In summer you can have a rest in the parks which are noted for
their shade trees and walking paths. Green lawns, squares,
public gardens are bright with red tulips and roses.
