 Ukraine is one of the largest countries in
Europe. It is situated in the centre of Europe
and borders on Russia, Belarus, Moldova,
Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. On
the south it is washed by the Black Sea and
the Sea of Azov.
The population of Ukraine is
about 47 mln inhabitants.
 The capital city of Ukraine is Kyiv. It
stands on the picturesque banks of the
Dnieper. Kyiv is an industrial, scientific
and cultural centre of Ukraine. Its
population is over 3 mln inhabitants.
 Kyi, Shehek, Khoriv and Lybid founded
the city on one of the hills above the
Dnieper.
There are many ancient
cathedrals and churches,
museums and monuments,
beautiful streets and
squares in it.
 The main street of Kyiv is certainly
Khreshchatyk.
 The Golden Gates, the
Andreyevskaya Church, the
monuments to Prince Volodymyr and
Taras Shevchenko are worth seeing.
Kyiv Shevchenko Opera and Ballet
House, Kyiv Ivan Franko Drama
Theatre are well-known all over the
country.
 Kyiv is famous for its Kyivo-Pecherska
Lavra.
 The Golden Gates, the Andreyevskaya
Church, the monuments to Taras
Shevchenko are worth seeing.
