What is Technology
Technology can be defined as any tool that can be used to help promote
human/student learning. Such as tablets, smart boards, video cameras,
speakers, projectors and computers.
Technology is us to accomplished different task in our daily lives.

Cognitive Development
According to California Department of Education (2016)
cognitive development refers to the process of growth and
change in intellectual/mental abilities such as thinking,
reasoning, and understanding.
Parents, teachers and caregivers play an important role in
supporting the cognitive development of children in their care.

The Role of Technology on Cognitive
Development
Technology when used as a tool has many benefits on children’s
cognitive development.
It saves time and energy because children has easily available
information at their disposal.
It help children learn at their best since they can work at their own
paced.
It is more fun and engaging which drives higher achievement.
Students will be able to compete with others in more advanced and
developed countries.
How to Integrate Technology to Support Young Children’s Cognitive
Development at Home and School
Teachers and parents can integrate technology in the classroom when
delivering lessons or teaching children since it can improve their level
of academic achievement. Properly integrating technology means to
use technology to support instruction (Gray et. al. 2011).
Technology can be integrated through:
 Ensuring that children have access to different types of technology so
they can utilize on a daily basic including the internet for directed and
independent learning.

•Use developmentally appropriate multimedia resources (e.g., interactive books,
educational software to support learning.
•Using technology such as computers for consistent and frequent reinforcement
of topics learn or taught (Parette, Hourcade, & Heiple, 2000).
•Allowing children to play fun games on devices to help them learn different
content areas.
How to Integrate Technology to Support Young Children’s
Cognitive Development at Home and School
 Providing different reading programs to support and help them learn to read
through repetition. Children will develop their reading comprehension skills
and acquire a love for reading.
Working in groups while using technology is essential in helping children
learn from each other as they work like a team.
Allowing them to do home assignment on the computer.

Giving students simple projects to complete to encourage further use of
technology.
Allow them to create a class or a home web page where they can share
information and received information from their peers.

Technology has a unique advantage in helping children in the 21st
century all over the world develop their cognitive skills. Children are
very curious by nature who love exploring the world around them.
Technology has an advantage because it is fun and excited which will
motivate and encourage them to stay focus and on task for longer
period of time rather than listening to their teachers or parents explain
concepts.

  • 3. 3 What is Technology Technology can be defined as any tool that can be used to help promote human/student learning. Such as tablets, smart boards, video cameras, speakers, projectors and computers. Technology is us to accomplished different task in our daily lives.
  • 4. 4 Cognitive Development According to California Department of Education (2016) cognitive development refers to the process of growth and change in intellectual/mental abilities such as thinking, reasoning, and understanding. Parents, teachers and caregivers play an important role in supporting the cognitive development of children in their care.
  • 5. 5 The Role of Technology on Cognitive Development Technology when used as a tool has many benefits on children’s cognitive development. It saves time and energy because children has easily available information at their disposal. It help children learn at their best since they can work at their own paced. It is more fun and engaging which drives higher achievement. Students will be able to compete with others in more advanced and developed countries.

How to Integrate Technology to Support Young Children’s Cognitive Development at Home and School Teachers and parents can integrate technology in the classroom when delivering lessons or teaching children since it can improve their level of academic achievement. Properly integrating technology means to use technology to support instruction (Gray et. al. 2011). Technology can be integrated through:  Ensuring that children have access to different types of technology so they can utilize on a daily basic including the internet for directed and independent learning. 3
  • 7. 7 How to Integrate Technology to Support Young Children’s Cognitive Development at Home and School •Use developmentally appropriate multimedia resources (e.g., interactive books, educational software to support learning. •Using technology such as computers for consistent and frequent reinforcement of topics learn or taught (Parette, Hourcade, & Heiple, 2000). •Allowing children to play fun games on devices to help them learn different content areas.

How to Integrate Technology to Support Young Children’s Cognitive Development at Home and School  Providing different reading programs to support and help them learn to read through repetition. Children will develop their reading comprehension skills and acquire a love for reading. Working in groups while using technology is essential in helping children learn from each other as they work like a team. Allowing them to do home assignment on the computer. 10

How to Integrate Technology to Support Young Children’s Cognitive Development at Home and School Giving students simple projects to complete to encourage further use of technology. Allow them to create a class or a home web page where they can share information and received information from their peers. 11
  • 10. 10 Technology has a unique advantage in helping children in the 21st century all over the world develop their cognitive skills. Children are very curious by nature who love exploring the world around them. Technology has an advantage because it is fun and excited which will motivate and encourage them to stay focus and on task for longer period of time rather than listening to their teachers or parents explain concepts.
