Camera Work (Shots & Movement) & Narrative Structure

CAMERA SHOTS – TWO SHOTS• Two-shots are commonly used in pop music videos that have romance plotlines. They are used to reflect a developing relationship
or an already established relationship between a couple.
 At the start of the video, this is to
reflect that there is a relationship
brewing between the two.
 It is later used to show the
relationship developing.
 As our music video has a
romance plotline in it, two-shots
were an important convention
which was needed to be added
in.
CAMERA SHOTS – CLOSE-UP SHOTS
 We have used 2 close-up shots in 2
performance base tracks.
 They were used to show off the artist’s
face, hairstyle & lip-syncing.
 This shows off the artist’s talent & USP
to the audience, which helps the
audience to remember him.
 One performance base track had a
close-up shot which had no camera
movements. This makes it better for
the audience to try & remember the
artist as they get a clear & near-still
view of him.
• Close-up shots are commonly used in pop music videos that have the artist is singing/lip-syncing. This is used to show off the
artist’s singing/lip-syncing – highlighting their talent & skills
• It also show the artist’s face so that the audience can see what he looks & therefore remember them.
• They could also be used to reflect the styling of the artist, such as hairstyle, costume & make-up, which may be the artist’s USP.
NARRATIVE STRUCTURE
• The narrative is usually linear & sequential in pop music videos.
• This is so that the audience can simply follow & easily understand the plotline. If the narrative was non-linear, the audience may
get confused.
 In our music video, the narrative is in
chronological order.
 This is to ensure the storyline correctly &
simply forwarded to the audience without
them getting confused.
 We started the video off with the couple
finding each other on Tinder, meeting up &
then doing activities together.
 This clearly shows a couple getting
together, & the activities they do are what is
happening in their relationship.

  • 2. CAMERA SHOTS – TWO SHOTS• Two-shots are commonly used in pop music videos that have romance plotlines. They are used to reflect a developing relationship or an already established relationship between a couple.  At the start of the video, this is to reflect that there is a relationship brewing between the two.  It is later used to show the relationship developing.  As our music video has a romance plotline in it, two-shots were an important convention which was needed to be added in.
  • 3. CAMERA SHOTS – CLOSE-UP SHOTS  We have used 2 close-up shots in 2 performance base tracks.  They were used to show off the artist’s face, hairstyle & lip-syncing.  This shows off the artist’s talent & USP to the audience, which helps the audience to remember him.  One performance base track had a close-up shot which had no camera movements. This makes it better for the audience to try & remember the artist as they get a clear & near-still view of him. • Close-up shots are commonly used in pop music videos that have the artist is singing/lip-syncing. This is used to show off the artist’s singing/lip-syncing – highlighting their talent & skills • It also show the artist’s face so that the audience can see what he looks & therefore remember them. • They could also be used to reflect the styling of the artist, such as hairstyle, costume & make-up, which may be the artist’s USP.
  • 4. NARRATIVE STRUCTURE • The narrative is usually linear & sequential in pop music videos. • This is so that the audience can simply follow & easily understand the plotline. If the narrative was non-linear, the audience may get confused.  In our music video, the narrative is in chronological order.  This is to ensure the storyline correctly & simply forwarded to the audience without them getting confused.  We started the video off with the couple finding each other on Tinder, meeting up & then doing activities together.  This clearly shows a couple getting together, & the activities they do are what is happening in their relationship.
