Life in Plastic, It's Fantastic! Starting young, adolescent girls around the world are becoming self–conscious due to society's influence upon what they
should and shouldn't look like. Many argue that The Barbie Doll plays a key influence in what young girls assume their bodies should look like.
However, some will argue that the Barbie Doll toy is a good role model for young children, especially girls, because of her career choices, how she's
depicted in her movies, and her overall personality. Most people are aware that Barbie has had a lot of career choices over the span of her "lifetime,"
so to speak. For example, Barbie was an astronaut. Not only is this not a traditional female occupation, as only 48 of 555 people in space have been

George Balanchine and The Nutcracker
George Balanchine himself said, "The choreographer and the dancer must remember that they reach the audience through the eye. It's the illusion
created which convinces the audience, much as it is with the work of a magician." Ві Balanchine could be considered just that of a magician in the
way that he brought his ballets to life. George Balanchine's The Nutcracker, could truly be described as an illustration of Christmas magic. The
Nutcracker would be of his most famous works, expanding worldwide and withstanding the true test of time. Recognized as a 20th century masterВІ,
Balanchine made history as the incredible choreographer of many works including that of a Christmas tradition.
Although a legend in the United States, George Balanchine did not begin life here until age twenty–nine. He was born in Russia on January 22 of
1904В№. Balanchine's father was a composerВ№, so music was no mystery to him growing up. In fact, he began his music career at the age of five
when he began to play the piano.Ві Not long after, George started his studies of dance at the age of nineВ№. He made his dancing debut at the age of
ten in the Maryinsky Theatre Ballet company production of The Sleeping Beauty with the role of a cupid. ВіHe would also dance the role of the Prince
in The Nutcracker at the age of fifteen. вЃµBalanchine graduated from the Maryinsky Theatre Ballet School in 1921В№.

The Doors Of The Opera House
Becca barged through the doors of the Opera House weighed down by a heavy ballet tote, a substantially stuffed garment bag, and an oversized platter
of peanut butter cup cookies. She moved steadily in the direction of the designated cookie drop–off.
When she finally got to the changing room, only a few other girls had arrived. Miss Claudine was in the back of the room talking on her cell. She
waved at Becca.
"I'm so excited!" Abby cried.
"I can't believe it's finally here," Shannon added with a bounce. "We've been practicing forever."
"Are you nervous, Becca?" Abby asked.
Becca nodded. "A little, but I'm ready."
"You don't have anything to be nervous about. You're, like, the best dancer. You're amazing!" Shannon gushed.
"Thank you," Becca replied with sincerity.
"I don't know how you do it, Becca," Abby said with eyes bulging, "especially the drop."
Miss Claudine finished her call and came over. "You girls have worked so hard," she said. "I have a feeling tonight will be very special." The girls
nodded in agreement, and their teacher moved on to greet the next group arriving.
The dancers hurried into their costumes helping each other with zippers, extra bobby pins, and hair spray. Becca was glad to be one of the first ready
and to get out of the stuffy commotion–filled room. She went to the backstage area to begin practicing her dance steps. Within fifteen minutes, she was
surrounded by other dancers doing the same thing.

Critical Analysis Of Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy
For my final exam essay, I have selected to write about Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. It is an extremely
popular piece of music that I feel most people have heard before. This piece is especially popular for Television commercials right now because of
Christmas coming up, which is when The Nutcracker is usually performed. The original composer was P.I. Tchaikovsky, a Russian composer during
the Romantic period. Tchaikovsky composed eleven operas, three ballets, over one hundred songs, and orchestral music. His three ballets, Swan Lake,
Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker have become some of the most well–known pieces from the Romantic period, and are still widely popular today.
The Nutcracker was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The celesta has now forever been identified with "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy." "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy' is the most well–known piece
from The Nutcracker. The music starts out very slowly and softly, but gets louder so that the song is crescendo and decrescendo constantly
repeating the main melody throughout the piece. The music is both homophonic and polyphonic and has varied dynamic with a lot of expression.
Tchaikovsky does a wonderful job of constructing the piece to match the gentle and delicate Sugar Plum Fairy and the dreamlike state of the
ballet. The dance that accompanies the piece is one of the most technically challenging dances of the ballet and is always danced by the prima
ballerina, principal female dancer. I think the musical piece became as popular it is due to Tchaikovsky using it to introduce the celesta that creates
the enchanting, trickling sound of the piece and because the dance to it is very difficult and is often a main feature of the ballet. It is
understandable why there are so many transcriptions of it The first transcription of "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" that I will be talking about is by
William Zeitler. He is one of the few profession players on the glass armonica, invented by Benjamin Franklin in 1761. He is also a professional
pianist, organist, and harpsichordist. Zeitler's transcription of the piece is played on the glass armonica and

Nutcracker Surprise Essay
Nutcracker surprise
Wow! My eyes popped out. So this was ballet. The beautiful and gracefulness of the dancers. Of how the worker together as a team, but still shine
bright as an individual. From when the first performer stepped out to the bows, I knew I wanted to dance like that. I like the way the dancers was
up there, and they looked fearless and they me feel fearless and confident. It was like a little secret that was calling my name and I had to be a dancer
so I could be part of that secret. When the nutcracker was finished, my friend stepped out and then we high fived, and told him that he did good job.
Then it was time to go home and in the car my mom asked me if I wanted to learn how to dance. Of course I told her yes. I knew that next year that was
going to be me up there on stage, dancing my heart out.
For the next year, I worked harder than anyone else in my class. My teacher was really impressed with me, so she moved me up to level one. I was
filled with glee from head to toe. When it started to move to the winter seasons, I knew that this was it, my first nutcracker. When our teacher
announced that the whole class going to try out for the nutcracker, practically everyone was jumping for joy. There was only one problem and only
one part. We all want to be clara. We all knew that one... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

thought that we were the luckiest kids in the whole theater because we got to watch every single performance. When the final rehearsal started I
started to feel nerves get to me. After the rehearsals our teacher told us to get into are first dance numbers

The Nutcracker Suite Analyse
Movies have become a central part of today's society. As a result, more and more movies are being produced and the market continues to rise with
their popularity. Although most people seem to watch only the films that are from their generation, there are also numerous other films that were
created many years ago that are just as good and fun to watch as are today's movies. For example, I chose to focus on one film in particular that is
entitled Fantasia. The composer for the song I chose is Pyotr Tchaikovsky. Tchaikovsky was a Russian composer during the Romantic period that
lived from May 7, 1840 until November 6, 1893 ("Dance," 2014). The full name of the piece that he wrote is entitled The Nutcracker Suite, but I
would like to focus on one of the six movements within that suite, "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy." Originally, the context for this piece was
composed for a ballet that was based on the story "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King" (Ferdous, N.d.). By using this piece of music, I think the
creator of the film intended to set both the mood and scene. For instance, the scene portrayed an array of colored fairies coming into the forest and
bringing things such as flowers and a spider web to life with both color and beauty. "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" made the audience feel as if
they were a part of the action and it was a very soothing, yet magical scene. I do feel that it is a successful combination because the piece of music fit
perfectly into the scene and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The commercial I chose to focus on is an ad back from 2000 that was promoting Honey Nut Cheerios. The piece of classical music that is in this
particular commercial is entitled "The Barber of Saville." This song was composed by Gioachino Rossini and was originally performed as a comic
opera that performed under the title Almaviva o sia l'inutile precauzione ("Barber,"

Research Paper On The Nutcracker
On November 26, 2017, the Colorado Ballet welcomed the holiday season with their fifty–seventh annual performance of the The Nutcracker – based
on E.T.A. Hoffman's famous enchanting fable The Nutcracker and the Mouse King – at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House at Denver Center for the
Performing Arts. The Colorado Ballet's production of The Nutcracker is one of the most successfully performed renditions of the classic in the country;
winning the Goldstar National Nutcracker Award in 2016. Artistic Director, Gill Boggs, gave us a performance brimming with magic and wonder that
was expertly coordinated and awe–inspiring. Featuring Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky's well loved musical composition, gracefully led by Adam Flatt, The
Nutcracker breathes tradition and is able to captivate an audience of all ages.
Originally premiering in December 1892, at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia; The Nutcracker was once not the beloved production we
know of today, but instead was immensely criticized. It wasn't until 1954, when George Balanchine re–adapted the classic for the New York City Ballet,
that it gained the momentum now received nationwide. Nevertheless, Denver's adaptation of the story surely doesn't disappoint, incorporating a cast
expertly delivered by both professional dancers, as well as students from the Colorado Ballet Academy with timeless choreography by Martin Fredmann
and Sandra Brown.
The two–hour play is divided into two acts; set in nineteenth century

On the evening of Sunday, December 16, 2012, I had the pleasure of attending a concert I'd wanted to see for quite a while. I was delighted to attend
Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, performed by the Richmond Symphony Orchestra and the Richmond Ballet. The performance took place at Carpenter
Theatre in Richmond Virginia. As I entered I felt a bit out of place. I'd never attended a performance quite like this one and I was a bit nervous. I took
my seat to the left of the orchestra pit. I was thrilled to see how close I was. I had arranged for a seat near the orchestra so I could observe them as they
played.

During the latter part of his life, rumors emerged of Tchaikovsky being a homosexual. This effected how his works were received, mainly in the
Western part of the world. According to Poznansky, "His music began to be criticized as sentimental, romantically excessive, charged with many
imperfections and even pathological" (Poznansky, 2012). It is now known that although Tchaikovsky was married to Antonina Miliukova in July 1877,
their marriage lasted less than three months. Tchaikovky admits to having homosexual escapades in 1861 and even to falling in love with a student,
Losif Kotek. It is quite obvious that these events have no bearing on the popularity of his work now.
The Nutcracker
Tchaikovsky wrote The Nutcracker at the request of the Director of the Imperial Theatres, Ivan Vsevolozhskii (Poznansky, 2012). The Nutcracker is
based on E. T. A. Hoffmann's fairy tale, of which Tchaikovsky was fond of. However he did not like using The Nutcracker for a ballet scenario. The
ballet tells the story of a young girl, Clara, who is given a nutcracker for Christmas. Clara then falls asleep and dreams the nutcracker fights an evil
mouse king. The nutcracker then turns into a prince and takes her to a land of snow, where he tells her the story of the battle with the army of mice.
She does several dances for the Prince to celebrate his triumph in battle. She then awakens and learns it was all just a dream (Green, n.d.). The

The Nutcracker Ballet is based on the story of the original story which was written by E.T.A. Hoffman in 1816. Although Hoffman's story was a
fairy tale, it was not meant for children. Then in 1892, a choreographer named Marius Petipa sought Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky to write music which
would become one of the most popular ballets of the world. It was Christmas Eve at the Stahlbaum house and it was attended by all the townspeople.
Soon the party grew as the guest began to arrive. Then, godfather Drosselmeyer arrives. He was a skilful clock and toy maker who was always full of

"Ugly yet Thoughtful" A short and ugly man may look like that on the outside but may have a heart of burning wood full of love on the inside as
E.T.A. Hoffmann explains in the Nutcracker. Nutcracker authored by E.T.A. Hoffmann, a fiction, is about Marie, a young girl who plays with

imagines her favortire nutcracker in the fray and cannot imagine his well being or not. The toy soldiers fight bravely and all imagine their glory in
the mices' blood running through their toy hands and feet as they gloriously imagine their fate. Moreover, when the battle seems to be going in the
mouse's favor, the author states, "Without quote knowing what she was doing, she took off her left hoe and flung it with all her might into the
thick of the enemy, hoping to kit their king... She felt a sharp pain in her left arm and fell to the floor in a faint" (33). Marie can only imagine her
true love in danger. She does not even have to think whether to save him or not and in an act of desperation faints before she sees the result. Lastly,
Marie lays sick in bed when Godfather Drosselmeier visits and Marie yells at him, "Oh, Godfather Drosselmeier, how ugly you were! I saw you

Essay On The Nutcracker
In modern times, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's ballet, The Nutcracker, is a Christmas classic. With memorable songs and beautiful instrumentation, many
cannot imagine Christmas without it. Dance companies perform the ballet year after year with spectators coming to watch annually. There have even
been LGBT, hip hop, and Jewish adaptations to the popular ballet (Begley). Thousands of musicians and dancers all over the world perform it to add
to the excitement and cheer of the holidays. The original story of The Nutcracker started with ETA. Hoffmann's 1816 tale The Nutcracker and the
Mouse King that had been adapted by Alexandre Dumas in 1844 about a girl who befriends a nutcracker on Christmas Eve and battles against the evil
Mouse King (Schwarm). In 1892, the director of the Russian Imperial Theatre, following the success of Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty, devised the
ballet, setting ito Tchaikovsky's music with choreography by Marius Petipa, and premiering it a week before Christmas (Burton–Hill). Tchaikovsky first
accepted the task to write the music from the director of Moscow's Imperial Theatres, Ivan Vsevolozhsky (History of The Nutcracker). He began to
work while on an American tour for the opening of Carnegie Hall. His tour took him through Paris, where he discovered a new instrument: the celesta.
It had a clear, bell–like tone that was perfectly fitted to be the "voice" of his Sugar Plum Fairy. He immediately wrote to his publisher, asking that the

Analysis Of The Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy
I have talked before about coming from a simple life. That could be a slight understatement as I have never previously attended a ballet, and when
the question, "Surely, you've all heard of Tchaikovsky, right?" was posed I struggled to recognize the name or any significance to my life. It was not
until I heard the musical number of "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" that the gears of my mind finally associated it with memory. While the first few
notes of the celesta filled the room with carefree delight, I was transported back to the cold, laminated floor of my farmhouse bedroom. Sitting on the
gaily–colored rug in the middle of my six feet by seven feet small expanse of space, I remember holding my china ballerina/music box so gently.
The object itself is about twenty inches tall. It is a beautiful ballerina in a lavender tutu with matching slippers and a delicate crown of flowers in her
hair. The ballerina is perched upon a white cylinder, almost reminiscent of a cake topper, that is embellished with glitter and flowers and all of the
pretty works. When the key is turned, the melody flows angelically through my small room, and I feel as if I am not longer present–instead, I am
swept away to a wonderous, snowy world with enchanting dancers. My only connection to Tchaikovsky let alone The Nutcracker is a ballerina figurine
that I left back home. I did not have a clue what to expect, but I could barely contain my excitement. Prior to the concert, we had covered Tchaikovsky

Chasse ! DГ©veloppe ! Coupe ! Ever head this terminology and wondered what on earth it means ? Well these our a few terms used in a type of style
of dance called ballet. Ballet originated from the Italian Renaissance in the 15th century and to this day It's one of he most popular performances in
both France and Russia. Ballet is absolutely one of my favorite types of dance style there is. I believe ballerinas or danseur (referred to as a male ballet
dancer) are absolutely strong, dedicated and hard driven performers in both the dancer and theatre world. They contribute to intensive years of training,
beautiful storyline that utilizes different types of ballet, and lastly the famous dancers that participated in the history of ballet.
As we begin, in ballet we see the dancer flow and gracefully dance all while being on the tips of her toes. To ever accomplish this, it requires
intensive years of training. Training to become a professional dancer it typically takes about 8– 10 years. Dancers begin to take classes at a young age,
more or less around the age of 5. Beginning ballet is a class where technique is taught by 1–2 classes a week. As the dancer becomes older, they begin

Clara and the Prince
As I walked into The Center for Arts Theatre there was still plenty of seating but there was a lot of excitement and noise coming from the audience
members who had already found their seats to watch "The Nutcracker" that was directed by Ashley Miller Davis based on E.T.A. Hoffman's,The
Nutcracker and the Mouse King (1816). The production was choreographed very well by DeAnn Petruschke and Ashley Miller Davis. The costume
crew Lisa Ivy and Brenda Linton also did a great job with each of the actor and actresses costumes. I have never seen the original "Nutcracker"
before so I did not really have anything to compare this production to. This story is based on Clara played by Tess Barborek and her toy soldier, the
prince, played by Emry Hunnicut, and their journey through the Kingdom of Sweets. The lights dimmed and then the theatre went black and music
started playing. We set in the dark for a couple of minutes until the curtain opened and Act I Scene I begins.
When the curtain opens the scene is set with a very large Christmas tree and Dr. Stahlbaum and his wife are getting ready for their Christmas party.
Clara, wearing a light pink dress and her brother Fritz, wearing 1800's style clothing, enter the room and cannot wait for the party to begin or to open

loud at all, but Merlin had always been uncommonly perceptive. He later said it felt like she had been calling just for him and he had known exactly
where to find her. It had taken awhile before Merlin and Arthur had been allowed to officially adopt Aithusa. There were a lot of hoops to jump
through. Her original parents had to be searched for (but were never found). Then Arthur and Merlin had to prove they'd be competent parents. Just
because Merlin had found her, he didn't get automatic first dibs. But they worked to convince the authorities, and around the time Aithusa was six

Nutcracker Ballet Essay
The Nutcracker ballet is an important piece of the holiday seasons. The story and the music that is performed never changed over the years but people
love to recreate it and add their own ideas to it. This semester I attended a performance of the Nutcracker presented by Kingwood Dance Theatre at

choreography of this performance was first created by John Adamson. The main characters of this ballet were Clara Stahlbaum (Lauryn Stetson), Herr

At the Christmas party you can see the Christmas sceneries on the stage but you can also see the bright, excited colors that were used for the actors
and actresses costumes. You see the guest arriving and presents being exchanged representing that it was either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. There
was a very large Christmas tree in center stage. The use of the props makes the storyline come alive because even though you can see the dancer's
movements you really wouldn't understand what they are doing without the various props displayed.
Although many viewers might have been focused on the dancers on stage, the music that was being played caught my attention more. I have heard
music from the Nutcracker before during Christmas time, but never knew it was use in the Nutcracker. There was many instruments that were used like
trumpets, harps, and flutes during the performance. As the music would change throughout the scenes at one point you could hear a serious tone with a
slow tempo, key shifted down, which was less flute and then they would use an instrument with a low sound, during the time that the adults were

Analysis Of The Nutcracker
The fifth and final 2017 Colorado Springs Philharmonic and Oklahoma City Ballet performance of The Nutcracker took place on Sunday, November
26, 2017, at 2:00 pm at the Pikes Peak Center. This rendition featured Conductor Thomas Wilson, Oklahoma City Ballet Artistic Director Robert Mills,
the Colorado Springs Children's Chorale, and numerous student dancers from the Pikes Peak Region. Through the excellence in the music, dancing,
and stage and costume design, this holiday Nutcracker performance not only captured the spirit of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's music but also conveyed
the Christmas spirit as well.
The Nutcracker is a fairytale, two–act ballet that is centered around the Stahlbaum family's Christmas Eve celebration. The plot of this ballet was an
adaption by Alexandre PГЁre of a story by E.T.A. Hoffmann with the musical score composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and choreography by
Marius Petipa. Act I began with Christmas Eve festivities at the Stahlbaum home with dancing and joyous celebration with family and friends. Herr
Drosselmeyer, a family friend, and his apprentice, Hans, arrived at the party, bringing gifts for everyone, including a special wooden Nutcracker for
the Stahlbaum's daughter, Clara. Clara was captivated by the gift, and after the party ended, she snuck into the living room to check on her Nutcracker,
where she falls asleep. Suddenly, the living is magically transformed into a battlefield between toy soldiers and giant mice and Clara discovers that

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Accomplishments
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was a Russian composer born on May 7th, 1840. The majority of Tchaikovsky's life was dedicated to his music. At the age
of four years old, Tchaikovsky composed his very first song and began to play the piano without the help of sheet music. Tchaikovsky continued to
pursue his musical career and started taking compositions lessons from the great Anton Rubinstein. Although Tchaikovsky pursued a musical career
early in life, his first job was a government clerk. Needless to say, Tchaikovsky did not like that job and he was reassured thatmusic was for him.
Tchaikovsky decided to leave his job and attend a new music school located in St. Petersburg, Russia. Although Tchaikovsky's teachers and peers had

"The first performance of the Christmas ballet was held as a double premiere together with Tchaikovsky's last opera, Iolanta, around the Christmas
holiday season on December 18th, 1892, at the Imperial Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia" (History of The Nutcracker). Although The
Nutcracker was first performed in 1892, it was not until 1934 that Tchaikovsky's ballet was performed outside of Russia. In 1934, The Nutcracker was
performed in England, but it was not until 1944 that the The Nutcracker was performed in the United States by San Francisco Ballet. Today, The
Nutcracker has been published in a series of books and can be seens in theaters worldwide, generally during the Winter months. Tchaikovsky's
inspiration behind The Nutcracker is debatable and many critics have different theories. Gavin Plumley, a journalist with The Guardian, wrote that he
"wondered how Tchaikovsky, the great sympathiser, could have written something so shallow." Some critics argue that Tchaikovsky had too many
compositions in the making at one time. Since Tchaikovsky was composing his last opera and Sleeping Beauty along with The Nutcracker, critics
believe he threw something together really quick. Other critics argue that Tchaikovsky wrote The Nutcracker in remembrance of his sister Sasha. Clara
and Fritz's relationship was like of Tchaikovsky and his sister's. Despite the inspiration and purpose behind The Nutcracker,

Women In Ballet Essay examples
Ballet is an art form born out of the expressionism and creativity of the Renaissance period (Kraus 63). From the first ballet performed in 1580 to the
present, women have been portrayed as fragile and dependent on men. One such ballet is The Nutcracker in which the girl–heroine Clara relies on the
Nutcracker to save her from the evil Mouse King.
The first production of The Nutcracker was performed for critics, public figures, and members of high society and received lack luster reviews on
December 17, 1892 (Anderson 40–52). The story opens in the parlor of a middle–class German family, the Stahlbaums, during a party on Christmas
Eve. Excitement fills the air in anticipation of the night's festivities. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A flower garden also waltzes for the children, and the most impressive dance is that for the Sugarplum fairy and her Prince. When the party comes to
an end, Clara is whisked back home (Anderson 9–13).
There are various ways in which The Nutcracker displays what is believed to be a woman's place in society. Through the children's actions, one is
able to see a clear distinction between male and female gender rolls. Clara is a sweet and innocent girl, and her brother, Fritz, is a scamp always
causing trouble (Anderson 9). Clara is shown a world in which girls play with dolls and learn to be nurturing mothers and boys train to be brave
soldiers. Throughout the party scene Clara holds and cares for her Nutcracker as if it were a baby. The Nutcracker also displays a woman's
dependence on a man. Clara must rely on the Nutcracker Prince to save her from the Mouse King. She can throw her slipper to distract the evil Mouse
King, but it is the Nutcracker who gives the Mouse King a mortal wound (Banes 60).
Ultimately, The Nutcracker is Clara's girlhood dream of love and marriage. In the Land of Sweets, Clara is finally able to be with her prince and with
shining eyes adores him (Balanchine 249–253). The Nutcracker also restores the ideal that marriage for gentry women is sweet, pleasant, and fulfilling.
In the metaphoric wedding feast in Act II, Clara is calm and docile watching the various antics, but not participating, which also represents a

The Nutcracker : Live At The Ellie Caulkins Opera
The Nutcracker: Live On the 26th of November, 2016, I had the wonderful opportunity to witness the Colorado
Ballet Orchestra perform the nutcracker live. The concert was at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, and the phenomenal symphony was led by Adam
Flatt. This was my first ever classical concert as well as concert, and I was not disappointed. The performance was wonderful, and the opera house was
beautiful. The Nutcracker performance was one hour and fifty minutes long, therefore, in this essay,
I plan to pick out the points that stood out. To begin this essay, I am going to summarize the story behind the nutcracker. Next, I will analyze the two
most notable and my personal favorite parts of the performance. Those parts were the battle scene and the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Finally, I will summarize the melody of the music throughout, and the general feel of the entire performance. Summary of Story The nutcracker is a
classic Christmas story that originated in Russia set to music by Pyotr
Ilyich Tchaikovsky and brought to life with the art of ballet by E.T.A. Hoffmann.Since then, the story has taken many different variations, titles, and
adaptations to suit its viewers while retaining its original composition and meaning. The story is mainly about a little girl named
Clara. In the story, her godfather Drosselmeyer comes to their house for Christmas. Clara and her junior brother, Fritz, really love their godfather,

The Cracker Tchaikovsky Essay
Each year, it is a tradition within my family to see "The Nutcracker" at Christmastime. "The Nutcracker" is a ballet about a young German girl, Clara,
who dreams of a Nutcracker Prince and a battle with a Mouse King, that was helped to be made famous by a Russian composer, Peter Ilyich
Tchaikovsky. Along with "The Nutcracker", Tchaikovsky composed the works from two other popular ballets, "Swan Lake" and "Sleeping Beauty".
Tchaikovsky and his compositions played a major role in changing and shaping the face of ballet. Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky was born on May 7, 1840
in Vyatka, Russia, and was a Russian composer of the Romantic era. He composed many different types of works, including symphonies, operas,
ballets, instrumental and chamber music, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In "The Nutcracker", we are introduced to this new instrument, which is the celesta. Tchaikovsky once wrote to his publisher that the celesta was an
instrument that was "something between a piano and a glockenspiel, with a divinely beautiful tone." The impact that Tchaikovsky's own works had on
the ballet set new standards for the classical ballet and the role of music within it. He set this standard through his mastery of "danseuse", or melodies
which match physical movements perfectly, vivid orchestration, effective themes, and continuity of thought (Classic Cat). Many of his well–known
ballets, "Swan Lake" and "The Nutcracker", are said to be enduring masterworks and wonderful examples of nineteenth century classical ballet.
Towards the end of the artistic life of the nineteenth century, ballet began to take a steady position in Tchaikovsky's consciousness. In a sense, both
ballet and Tchaikovsky met one another in the middle. Through this genre of ballet music, Tchaikovsky was able to bring his unusual way of thinking
to life and embody real and eternal feelings within the world of art

What Is The Mood Of The Nutcracker By Tchaikovsky
Many artists created and performed music during the period of Romanticism in Europe. Artists during this period masterfully combined multiple
musical components to create memorable pieces that they delivered to the public through performances. The artists combined musical components
such as form, texture, tempo, melodic range, articulation, dynamic(s), and timbre to create an enjoyable musical experience. By utilizing all of the
different musical components, composers created timeless pieces that attracted large crowds of commoners as well as noble and royal families.
Tchaikovsky was a musical composer that stood out from the rest of the musical composers during the Romantic period. According to Biography, com,
Tchaikovsky was born Pyotr Iiyich... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was actually commissioned by a choreographer named Marius Petipa. According to Betsy Schwarm in an article called 'The Nutcracker' from
the Encyclopædia Britannica, the Nutcracker was inspired by and based off of a story called 'The Nutcracker and Mouse King', by E.T.A.
Hoffman. When Tchaikovsky started to compose the Nutcracker, he did so without much vigor. Tchaikovsky believed that the Nutcracker was not a
very good piece and he frequently compared the quality with his earlier ballet called Sleeping Beauty. The Nutcracker was finished in the year 1892
and parts of the ballet were performed in December of the same year. The ballet turned out to be a failure the first time it was performed. Many of the
viewers did not like the idea of the ballet and thought that the costumes were tasteless and plain. Though the viewers did not enjoy the ballet,
Tchaikovsky reported that they enjoyed the orchestral part of the ballet. Perhaps why the viewers enjoyed the orchestral part of the ballet more than the
choreographed part is because of the musical components that Tchaikovsky combined to make themusic enjoyable for the listeners. The Nutcracker is
a ballet composed of two acts. The first act is called the Stahlbaum home and the second at is called the Land of Sweets, each act with their own set of
special ballet characters that are supposed to preform. The acts also have their own synopsis as well as their own scripts. Throughout the whole ballet
the composer notably made use of tempo, texture, consonance, dissonance, dynamics, articulation, form, and

Starting young, adolescent girls around the world are becoming self–conscious due to society's influence upon what they should and shouldn't look like. Many argue that The Barbie Doll plays a key influence in what young girls assume their bodies should look like. However, some will argue that the Barbie Doll toy is a good role model for young children, especially girls, because of her career choices, how she's depicted in her movies, and her overall personality. "We've been practicing forever." "Are you nervous, Becca?" Abby asked. Becca nodded. "A little, but I'm ready." "You don't have anything to be nervous about. You're, like, the best dancer. • 6. Critical Analysis Of Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy For my final exam essay, I have selected to write about Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. It is an extremely popular piece of music that I feel most people have heard before. This piece is especially popular for Television commercials right now because of Christmas coming up, which is when The Nutcracker is usually performed. The original composer was P.I. Tchaikovsky, a Russian composer during the Romantic period. Tchaikovsky composed eleven operas, three ballets, over one hundred songs, and orchestral music. His three ballets, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker have become some of the most well–known pieces from the Romantic period, and are still widely popular today. The Nutcracker was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The celesta has now forever been identified with "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy." "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy' is the most well–known piece from The Nutcracker. The music starts out very slowly and softly, but gets louder so that the song is crescendo and decrescendo constantly repeating the main melody throughout the piece. The music is both homophonic and polyphonic and has varied dynamic with a lot of expression. Tchaikovsky does a wonderful job of constructing the piece to match the gentle and delicate Sugar Plum Fairy and the dreamlike state of the ballet. The dance that accompanies the piece is one of the most technically challenging dances of the ballet and is always danced by the prima ballerina, principal female dancer. I think the musical piece became as popular it is due to Tchaikovsky using it to introduce the celesta that creates the enchanting, trickling sound of the piece and because the dance to it is very difficult and is often a main feature of the ballet. It is understandable why there are so many transcriptions of it The first transcription of "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" that I will be talking about is by William Zeitler. He is one of the few profession players on the glass armonica, invented by Benjamin Franklin in 1761. He is also a professional pianist, organist, and harpsichordist. When the nutcracker was finished, my friend stepped out and then we high fived, and told him that he did good job. • 8. The Nutcracker Suite Analyse Movies have become a central part of today's society. As a result, more and more movies are being produced and the market continues to rise with their popularity. Although most people seem to watch only the films that are from their generation, there are also numerous other films that were created many years ago that are just as good and fun to watch as are today's movies. For example, I chose to focus on one film in particular that is entitled Fantasia. The composer for the song I chose is Pyotr Tchaikovsky. Tchaikovsky was a Russian composer during the Romantic period that lived from May 7, 1840 until November 6, 1893 ("Dance," 2014). The full name of the piece that he wrote is entitled The Nutcracker Suite, but I would like to focus on one of the six movements within that suite, "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy." Originally, the context for this piece was composed for a ballet that was based on the story "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King" (Ferdous, N.d.). By using this piece of music, I think the creator of the film intended to set both the mood and scene. For instance, the scene portrayed an array of colored fairies coming into the forest and bringing things such as flowers and a spider web to life with both color and beauty. "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" made the audience feel as if they were a part of the action and it was a very soothing, yet magical scene. I do feel that it is a successful combination because the piece of music fit perfectly into the scene and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. Research Paper On The Nutcracker On November 26, 2017, the Colorado Ballet welcomed the holiday season with their fifty–seventh annual performance of the The Nutcracker – based on E.T.A. Hoffman's famous enchanting fable The Nutcracker and the Mouse King – at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House at Denver Center for the Performing Arts. The Colorado Ballet's production of The Nutcracker is one of the most successfully performed renditions of the classic in the country; winning the Goldstar National Nutcracker Award in 2016. Artistic Director, Gill Boggs, gave us a performance brimming with magic and wonder that was expertly coordinated and awe–inspiring. Featuring Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky's well loved musical composition, gracefully led by Adam Flatt, The Nutcracker breathes tradition and is able to captivate an audience of all ages. Originally premiering in December 1892, at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia; The Nutcracker was once not the beloved production we know of today, but instead was immensely criticized. It wasn't until 1954, when George Balanchine re–adapted the classic for the New York City Ballet, that it gained the momentum now received nationwide. Nevertheless, Denver's adaptation of the story surely doesn't disappoint, incorporating a cast expertly delivered by both professional dancers, as well as students from the Colorado Ballet Academy with timeless choreography by Martin Fredmann and Sandra Brown. The two–hour play is divided into two acts; set in nineteenth century ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the latter part of his life, rumors emerged of Tchaikovsky being a homosexual. This effected how his works were received, mainly in the Western part of the world. According to Poznansky, "His music began to be criticized as sentimental, romantically excessive, charged with many imperfections and even pathological" (Poznansky, 2012). It is now known that although Tchaikovsky was married to Antonina Miliukova in July 1877, their marriage lasted less than three months. Tchaikovky admits to having homosexual escapades in 1861 and even to falling in love with a student, Losif Kotek. It is quite obvious that these events have no bearing on the popularity of his work now. The Nutcracker Tchaikovsky wrote The Nutcracker at the request of the Director of the Imperial Theatres, Ivan Vsevolozhskii (Poznansky, 2012). The Nutcracker is based on E. T. A. Hoffmann's fairy tale, of which Tchaikovsky was fond of. However he did not like using The Nutcracker for a ballet scenario. The ballet tells the story of a young girl, Clara, who is given a nutcracker for Christmas. Clara then falls asleep and dreams the nutcracker fights an evil mouse king. The nutcracker then turns into a prince and takes her to a land of snow, where he tells her the story of the battle with the army of mice. She does several dances for the Prince to celebrate his triumph in battle. She then awakens and learns it was all just a dream (Green, n.d.). The Nutcracker was

  • 14. Essay On The Nutcracker In modern times, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's ballet, The Nutcracker, is a Christmas classic. With memorable songs and beautiful instrumentation, many cannot imagine Christmas without it. Dance companies perform the ballet year after year with spectators coming to watch annually. There have even been LGBT, hip hop, and Jewish adaptations to the popular ballet (Begley). Thousands of musicians and dancers all over the world perform it to add to the excitement and cheer of the holidays. The original story of The Nutcracker started with ETA. Hoffmann's 1816 tale The Nutcracker and the Mouse King that had been adapted by Alexandre Dumas in 1844 about a girl who befriends a nutcracker on Christmas Eve and battles against the evil Mouse King (Schwarm). In 1892, the director of the Russian Imperial Theatre, following the success of Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty, devised the ballet, setting ito Tchaikovsky's music with choreography by Marius Petipa, and premiering it a week before Christmas (Burton–Hill). Tchaikovsky first accepted the task to write the music from the director of Moscow's Imperial Theatres, Ivan Vsevolozhsky (History of The Nutcracker). He began to work while on an American tour for the opening of Carnegie Hall. His tour took him through Paris, where he discovered a new instrument: the celesta. It had a clear, bell–like tone that was perfectly fitted to be the "voice" of his Sugar Plum Fairy. He immediately wrote to his publisher, asking that the instrument be ... • 17. Analysis Of The Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy I have talked before about coming from a simple life. That could be a slight understatement as I have never previously attended a ballet, and when the question, "Surely, you've all heard of Tchaikovsky, right?" was posed I struggled to recognize the name or any significance to my life. It was not until I heard the musical number of "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" that the gears of my mind finally associated it with memory. While the first few notes of the celesta filled the room with carefree delight, I was transported back to the cold, laminated floor of my farmhouse bedroom. Sitting on the gaily–colored rug in the middle of my six feet by seven feet small expanse of space, I remember holding my china ballerina/music box so gently. The object itself is about twenty inches tall. It is a beautiful ballerina in a lavender tutu with matching slippers and a delicate crown of flowers in her hair. The ballerina is perched upon a white cylinder, almost reminiscent of a cake topper, that is embellished with glitter and flowers and all of the pretty works. When the key is turned, the melody flows angelically through my small room, and I feel as if I am not longer present–instead, I am swept away to a wonderous, snowy world with enchanting dancers. Arthur sometimes worried that she'd become too much like her aunties, who while beautiful, were cunning and manipulative and got whatever they wanted. At least Aithusa didn't share any Pendragon DNA, having been a foundling. Merlin had pulled her out of a garbage can on a snowy Christmas morning, a tiny bundle with wispy silver hair and angry red cheeks, screaming as loudly as her baby lungs could manage. Which wasn't loud at all, but Merlin had always been uncommonly perceptive. He later said it felt like she had been calling just for him and he had known exactly where to find her. It had taken awhile before Merlin and Arthur had been allowed to officially adopt Aithusa. There were a lot of hoops to jump through. Her original parents had to be searched for (but were never found). Then Arthur and Merlin had to prove they'd be competent parents. Just because Merlin had found her, he didn't get automatic first dibs. But they worked to convince the authorities, and around the time Aithusa was six months old, they were allowed to bring her home. She had had them wrapped around her little finger ever since. Arthur finally got Merlin into the car and headed to the Camelot High School Auditorium. He knew the way well. Parents were required to volunteer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The story and the music that is performed never changed over the years but people love to recreate it and add their own ideas to it. This semester I attended a performance of the Nutcracker presented by Kingwood Dance Theatre at Atascocita High School Theatre. The music that was used for the ballet came from Peter Tchaikovsky, from the romantic era, and the original choreography of this performance was first created by John Adamson. The main characters of this ballet were Clara Stahlbaum (Lauryn Stetson), Herr Drosselmeyer (Van Christman),the Nutcracker (Kevin Reiland), Prince (Andrey Prikhodko), and the Sugar Plum Fairy (Michelle Peterson). At the Christmas party you can see the Christmas sceneries on the stage but you can also see the bright, excited colors that were used for the actors and actresses costumes. You see the guest arriving and presents being exchanged representing that it was either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. There was a very large Christmas tree in center stage. The use of the props makes the storyline come alive because even though you can see the dancer's movements you really wouldn't understand what they are doing without the various props displayed. Although many viewers might have been focused on the dancers on stage, the music that was being played caught my attention more. I have heard music from the Nutcracker before during Christmas time, but never knew it was use in the Nutcracker. There was many instruments that were used like trumpets, harps, and flutes during the performance. As the music would change throughout the scenes at one point you could hear a serious tone with a slow tempo, key shifted down, which was less flute and then they would use an instrument with a low sound, during the time that the adults were ... Although Tchaikovsky pursued a musical career early in life, his first job was a government clerk. Needless to say, Tchaikovsky did not like that job and he was reassured thatmusic was for him. Gavin Plumley, a journalist with The Guardian, wrote that he "wondered how Tchaikovsky, the great sympathiser, could have written something so shallow." Some critics argue that Tchaikovsky had too many compositions in the making at one time. Since Tchaikovsky was composing his last opera and Sleeping Beauty along with The Nutcracker, critics believe he threw something together really quick. Other critics argue that Tchaikovsky wrote The Nutcracker in remembrance of his sister Sasha. Clara and Fritz's relationship was like of Tchaikovsky and his sister's. • 27. Women In Ballet Essay examples Ballet is an art form born out of the expressionism and creativity of the Renaissance period (Kraus 63). From the first ballet performed in 1580 to the present, women have been portrayed as fragile and dependent on men. One such ballet is The Nutcracker in which the girl–heroine Clara relies on the Nutcracker to save her from the evil Mouse King. The first production of The Nutcracker was performed for critics, public figures, and members of high society and received lack luster reviews on December 17, 1892 (Anderson 40–52). When the party comes to an end, Clara is whisked back home (Anderson 9–13). There are various ways in which The Nutcracker displays what is believed to be a woman's place in society. Through the children's actions, one is able to see a clear distinction between male and female gender rolls. Clara is a sweet and innocent girl, and her brother, Fritz, is a scamp always causing trouble (Anderson 9). Clara is shown a world in which girls play with dolls and learn to be nurturing mothers and boys train to be brave soldiers. Throughout the party scene Clara holds and cares for her Nutcracker as if it were a baby. The Nutcracker also displays a woman's dependence on a man. Clara must rely on the Nutcracker Prince to save her from the Mouse King. She can throw her slipper to distract the evil Mouse King, but it is the Nutcracker who gives the Mouse King a mortal wound (Banes 60). Ultimately, The Nutcracker is Clara's girlhood dream of love and marriage. In the Land of Sweets, Clara is finally able to be with her prince and with shining eyes adores him (Balanchine 249–253). The Nutcracker also restores the ideal that marriage for gentry women is sweet, pleasant, and fulfilling. In the metaphoric wedding feast in Act II, Clara is calm and docile watching the various antics, but not participating, which also represents a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In "The Nutcracker", we are introduced to this new instrument, which is the celesta. Tchaikovsky once wrote to his publisher that the celesta was an instrument that was "something between a piano and a glockenspiel, with a divinely beautiful tone." The impact that Tchaikovsky's own works had on the ballet set new standards for the classical ballet and the role of music within it. He set this standard through his mastery of "danseuse", or melodies which match physical movements perfectly, vivid orchestration, effective themes, and continuity of thought (Classic Cat). Many of his well–known ballets, "Swan Lake" and "The Nutcracker", are said to be enduring masterworks and wonderful examples of nineteenth century classical ballet. Towards the end of the artistic life of the nineteenth century, ballet began to take a steady position in Tchaikovsky's consciousness. In a sense, both ballet and Tchaikovsky met one another in the middle. Through this genre of ballet music, Tchaikovsky was able to bring his unusual way of thinking to life and embody real and eternal feelings within the world of art ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tchaikovsky believed that the Nutcracker was not a very good piece and he frequently compared the quality with his earlier ballet called Sleeping Beauty. The Nutcracker was finished in the year 1892 and parts of the ballet were performed in December of the same year. The ballet turned out to be a failure the first time it was performed. Many of the viewers did not like the idea of the ballet and thought that the costumes were tasteless and plain. Though the viewers did not enjoy the ballet, Tchaikovsky reported that they enjoyed the orchestral part of the ballet. Perhaps why the viewers enjoyed the orchestral part of the ballet more than the choreographed part is because of the musical components that Tchaikovsky combined to make themusic enjoyable for the listeners.
