CHRISTMAS IN EUROPE PAGE 7
IN GREECE
Some days before Christmas house wives make sweets
(kourabiedes : something like shortbread melomakarona: small
cakes with honey syrup) and all the houses smell wonderful . We
offer them to our guests!!! The traditional dish used to be pork
or lamb but nowadays we
cook turkey!
On Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve all families have lunch
or dinner together because it’s a family celebration. Families
enjoy a delicious meal and everyone is happy.

meet and eat a Christmas meal. They can
have jellied pig’s feet, and poppyseed bis-

families have fish soup, fried fish with po-
tato salad and yeast raised cakes with pop-
pyseed and walnuts. They drink Palinka.
In Hungary, they have many traditions befo-

like in France. But Santa Claus comes on
December 6th. Children put their boots
into the windows and santa fills them with
candies. They have Luca Day on December
13th.: Men must build a stool and finish it
for Christmas. They sing carols and they
build a crib too.
They decorate their houses and streets.
They buy a christmas tree a day or a week
before Christmas and they decorate it with

to keep an eye on them when they watched TV, a ve-
ry hard job. You’re right, it’s true that sometimes I
fell asleep. That’s because there were some sun-
beds for the family near the swimming-pool. I wore
my sunglasses to see them but I was too tired! For
my birthday, benjamin and his brothers forced me to
wear a hat: I really looked prettier, didn’t I?
Well, the most difficult element in this family is Os-
