The Goal Of The Project Was To Create A Prototype Autonomous
The goal of the project was to create a prototype Autonomous Lunar Vehicle (ALV) that is capable
of traversing lunar surfaces in order to ensure the delivery and accurate placement of antennas to
multiple defined coordinates. It was decided that to consider the model successful, the ALV must
accomplish its primary task in successfully delivering the undamaged antennas to their necessary
locations. A list of design specifications was created in order to further distinguish the success of an
ALV design. A functional block diagram (Figure 4) was developed in order to display the necessary
components of potential designs. In order to complete this goal, a Gantt Chart (Figure 5) was
developed in order to aid the design process by setting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A Raspberry Pi computer was set up to the Python software and, within testing, proved to not only
be noticeably slower but also be extremely less accurate, as shown in Figure 9. This data was
collected in a tool that was created to measure the exact angle of motor turns at the same settings,
shown in Figure 10. This data, along with previous experience, lead to the chosen programming
language to be C. Before this code could be implemented, it was decided that the overall systems
needed to be developed first. Brainstorming was conducted in determining the drive system and the
dispenser to be needed which would result in being similar to the manufactured designs.
Brainstorming for these systems primarily were drawings, with the Figure 11 image being the
intended design to have an idea of choices for decision matrices. This became the first preliminary
design (Figure 12) followed this design's idea but with slight modifications. The base was first built
with treads in order to ensure that there is sufficient traction and synchronized wheels for accurate
movement. A simple RobotC code was developed to simply make this drive system drive around,
which demonstrated to suffice to the design requirements by being able to move or turn in a desired
fashion and at a range of speeds. A flowchart (Figure 13) was developed in order to directly relate to
the original code and plan additional code for the functions of the ALV. It was desired to have a
slower speed as this

Essay about Summary of History of Graphic Design by Meggs
Chapter 1: The Invention of Writing
– From the early Paleolithic to the Neolithic period (35,000 BC to 4,000 BC), early Africans and
Europeans left paintings in caves, including the
Lascaux caves in Southern France.
– Early pictures were made for survival and for utilitarian and ritualistic purposes. – Petroglyphs are
carved or scratched signs on rock.
– These images became symbols for what would be the first spokenlanguage.
– Cuneiform – Wedged shaped writing, created in 3000BC. Started as pictographs. – With the
discovery of cuneiform, there was a knowledge explosion, where libraries were organized filling
with tablets about religion, mathematics, and history. Writing enabled society to stabilize itself, and
laws were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
– Chinese is thought to have been invented by Tsang Chieh, who was inspired to invent writing after
studying the claw marks of birds.
– Chinese characters are logograms meaning that each character represents an entire word (like $ =
dollar).
– Paper, a Chinese invention, is attributed with the high government official
Ts'ai Lun.
– Ts'ai Lun's method of making paper was unchanged until nineteenth century England.
– After the invention of paper, the Chinese also began to use it for wrapping presents, wallpaper,
napkins and toilet paper.
– Printing was invented by the Chinese.
– The first method of printing was block printing, using stamps.
– Rubbings were also made by carving words into stone, then inking the stone and making a print on
a piece of paper. This is also known as relief printing. – The oldest surviving printed manuscript is
the Diamond Sutra.
– Around 1000AD, paper money was printed.
– An early form of Chinese graphic design was playing cards.
– In 1045 AD, Chinese alchemist Pi Sheng developed movable type, using clay and glue.
– Because types are not moveable, characters were organized by rhyme.
– Moveable type never replaced the handcut woodblock of the orient.
– The invention of paper and printing arrived in Europe just as the
Renaissance began.
Chapter 4: Illuminated Manuscripts
– Hand–written books are referred to as Illuminated Manuscripts.
– Two notable traditions of illuminated

Performance Based Design For An Integrated Solution
PERFORMANCE BASED DESIGN
The concept of achieving design with some focus on performance is not new, the tools and methods
that changes. To discuss performance for design, it is important to classify and separate its functions
and features. If a building consists of a set of parameters, the design process can be associated to a
balance act, where parameters are weight and arranged to t the context of a project.
In traditional architectural design, the use of measurable parameters often postponed or take place in
a later phase of the design process. The concept design is rather focused on aesthetics, plan
functionality and experience of spaces, however, this approach limits the success of an integrated
solution.
Today, there is an almost understood association with computational tools along with the measurable
parameters and thresholds. The massive power of computation makes it superlative for repeating
calculations, it could be useful in optimization algorithms for instance, and the target parameters for
the optimization have to be simple enough to be expressed in a computer algorithm. In the
application of structural engineering, these quantiable and measurable parameters could be mass,
force, moment, deflection or even cost.

My Senior Year Of High School
Since the beginning of my senior year of high school, I received the amazing opportunity to belong
to a community of interior and event designers at Suzanne Nichols Design Group. The showroom is
located in Orlando, so whenever I visit or am home for break I continuously work with the company
in the community. The experience helps me to understand the many different genres that are utilized
within the community. They help us to communicate with each other, the clients, and the business as
a whole. We often take on many beautiful designer homes and design many special events such as
weddings, office banquets, birthday parties, and anniversary parties. Many of the genres we utilize
included meeting agendas, proposals, floor plans, invoices, sample design boards, and also event
promotional flyers. A collaboration of the different genres come together to make the work more
organized, less stressful and even exciting. Primarily, a meeting agenda is created so we know what
to discuss with our clients, as well as, questions that need to be asked. It normally consists of bullet
points with various topics in chronological order of the way they should be reviewed and talked
about. The meeting agendas are important to the design process and design community because they
help us get a good understanding of exactly what our client wants and requirements. Normally, our
clients usually range from a family looking to design a newly purchased home, or a bride wanting to

Parametric Urbanism Is Based On Parametric Design Systems
Interconnectivity of Variables
Parametric urbanism is based on parametric design systems, in which the parameters of a particular
object are declared, and not its geometry. The focus of interest is not the form itself, but the
parameters which have generated them (Canuto, R. and Amorim, L., 2012). In this context,
geometries with parameters are created to be related with all other design components, where any
specific variation will lead to an adaptation response in the geometries forming the model. This will
create a very dynamic and interactive urban planning solution, interconnected and related to all
variables of the urban system, where each active variable changes through the system variations, and
the current model generates changes in the urban proposal, without losing the consistency and
integrity of the previous model (Pinto, G. et al., 2013).
Approaches of Parametric Urbanism
The computational processes of form origination and transformation are referred to computational
architectures. Using these technologies in design has established new concepts or approaches.
Kolarevic stated a number of architectural subcategories that emerged in recent decades from studies
with different computational techniques, such as topological space (topological architectures),
isomorphic surfaces (isomorphic architectures), motion kinematics and dynamics (animate
architectures), key shape animation (metamorphic architectures), parametric design (parametric
architectures), and genetic

The in–house master builder provided the company with an important attribute in accomplishing its
goals in the company's redesign process and also contributes to the company's core competency.
The master builder was a key factor because having one allowed Santa Cruz Bicycles to take control
over the company's design and business process. The company would also have full control of
problems related to quality and turnaround time. The in–house builder would reduce the sluggish
response times coupled with slow issue resolution, hence, the long time the company took to bring
the new product to the market. Outsourcing provides companies with a competitive advantage by
delegating business process to external sources and to realize the benefits of low labor, better
quality, and improved innovation. Santa Cruz Bicycles did not accomplish its goal of a short time in
the design process by outsourcing part its design process.
Change management is a systematic approach to dealing with change, both from the perspective of
an organization and on the individual level. The management team at Santa Cruz Bicycle wants to
achieve the company's goal of going from design to prototype in a shorter time. To achieve the goal
changes were necessary in the management thought process and outlook for a successful outcome.

Architectural professional practice is a relatively regional field in which architects conduct their
comprehensive manner in a specific localized territory. Due to the current fact that more and more
American architects practice in China, it is not an easy time for them to interact or communicate
with remote brains on the other side of earth. The different cultural and social backgrounds have
become the source of misunderstanding and problems in the process of cooperation, which may lead
to unfavorable consequences. As a Chinese architectural student who has studied in America and
worked in local projects for the U.S. architectural firm, I have experienced many differences

How Graphic Design Influence Our View Of The World?
How does graphic design influence our view of the world?
As viewers we are exposed to images constantly, and in the case of graphic design the images we
see are designed to communicate messages to us. Barnard (2005:1) claims that 'most people see
more examples of graphic design before they go to work than they see examples of art in a year',
thus it is apparent just how powerful graphic design is, as well as how influential to us. This essay
concerns the application of graphic design in two contrasting ways; in order to efficiently
communicate knowledge, and also to communicate solidarity, peace and respect. These message of
knowledge is evidenced in the works of Erik Spiekermann and the design company MetaDesign
Berlin, who created a simplified map of the Berlin transportation systems, in the style of Henry
Beck, which did not follow geographical accuracy, however it was exactly what travellers needed.
Moreover, the message of solidarity is found within the work of Jean Jullien whose work is reliant
on evoking emotion in the viewer, and who created the iconic 'Peace for Paris' illustration that
quickly became the symbol for solidarity in 2015, following the tragic Paris attacks.
There is a type of design that aids us in consuming knowledge fluently and that is Information
Design, this tool combines text and imagery in order to transform content, the purpouse of this is
that it can be consumed by us in a far more efficient manner. Burke and Wildbur (1998:49) imply

Safety : An Ethical Obligation
Safety: An Ethical Obligation
For an engineer, safety is a full time job. As engineers, it is not only seen as fulfilling a social
responsibility or an ethical obligation, but considered the top most priority in our line of duty. It is
partially for this reason that design standards, codes and specifications have been established. These
design standards serve as guidelines or insurance so to speak for an engineer to meet his or her legal
obligations. However, at the end of the day it is the engineer's responsibility for bearing any
consequences, not the design codes used. Over the centuries, the need arose to have codes
addressing ethics since there have been countless instances of an action considered legal but far
from ethical. Among ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Best Engineering Judgement
In the event the local codes and standards are at a level below what the engineer is accustomed to,
should the engineer use the first as the basis for providing the solution design? The engineer may
well be within his or her legal right, but the question thereafter asked is whether this decision can be
considered ethical. Whilst meeting that country's minimum building requirements, the engineer will
most likely be opposing the first canon, thereby leaving leeway for potential safety risks to the
general public; risks that were foreseen and not mitigated. It is these instances where an engineer's
best judgement becomes very important. As the engineer decides on which standards to employ, a
balance will need to be struck between the local standards and that which the engineer is
accustomed to and/or in conjunction with global building codes. To establish a balance, an engineer,
thus uses his best judgement to make compromises. This decision making process, whilst a critical
and difficult one, an engineer should recognize that he or she does not have to do so alone. Of
course the canons help to guide the engineer, but an important characteristic to have as an engineer
is to be open–minded. In keeping an open mind you learn from other engineers who have faced a
similar dilemma since they may have suggestions to offer. As an engineer, you may also bring seek
the right people to aid you in making your decision about the

Wearable Technologies And Mobile Ehealth Applications
Wearable technologies and mobile eHealth applications have becomes very popular in the recent
years. From Fitbit to My eHealth, these technologies are making it easier for people to monitor their
lifestyles and health. These technologies are making is easier for people to control their health by
having more access to information and the ability to look up their record without having to go into
the doctor's office. With the advancement in these technology, there is also barriers to the
deployment of them. I believe the biggest barriers to deployment of wearable technologies and
mobile eHealth applications are design, data collection, and lack of interoperability.

Design is a huge factor when deploying wearable technologies and eHealth systems. Unless there is
a good design that is not bulky and is easy to use, users will not want to adopt the new product.
The second barrier is data collection, with the rise of wearable technology and eHealth applications
the collection of data has been increasing. Data collection is the center of all applications and
wearables. How is data being used or what is the company storing? This is a huge barrier due to the
fact that more people are becoming aware of their personal privacy. With phones your GPS is
tracked unless specifically turned off and you are able to get a workout at a click of a button. But
with all of this data being collected, are companies only using it for your personal use or are they
using it for another matter (Hooge, 2015)? Data collection is a barrier due to the fact that people do
not know what the companies are using the data for. Most users of the wearables or eHealth
applications do not own their data, the data is instead stored and collected by the companies. Users
only get provided with a summary of the data collected while the company has free reign to do
whatever they please with it. With the increase of people understanding their privacy and rights, it
provides a barrier with wearables and eHealth applications as people want to understand how their
data is being used (Piwek, Ellis,

ASSOCIATIVE PARAMETRIC URBANISM:
A Computational Approach to Parameterization of Conceptual Design Phase

Email address: dr.ayoub@aast.edu
Abstract. Urban planning projects usually comprises a complex set of objectives that needs to be
addressed by developing a number of proposals, which require a lot of repetitive steps resulting in
fewer and slowly–developed design alternatives. To address the limitations of existing systems, this
research introduces the merge of associative parametric design tools with the conceptual design
phase of urban planning process to propose a Parameterized Conceptual Design Phase. The
developed associative algorithm within the proposed phase represents a computational approach that
translates a site's settings into local attractors to define urban fabric and provide the designer with
variations for optimal solutions. The Informal Settlement of Ezbet El Matar, Alexandria, is selected
as the case study of this approach.
1. Introduction
Urban planning lays the foundation for the new buildings and public spaces that shape our lives.
Traditionally, urban planning process consists of a sequence of phases that may vary or overlap to
suit the project nature. During the conceptual design phase, a complex set of objectives and
requirements are addressed regarding certain factors such as land use, site considerations,
circulation, and environmental issues. To respond to

Unit 5 – Construction Technology and Design in Construction and the Built Environment
Task 1 (P1, P2, P3, M1 & D1)
P1
Describe the factors that influence the design process
There are a variety of different factors that influence the design process. The first one is the client's
needs and amount of money they have, the design has to suit the client's needs so that the design
meets what they like. Therefore the design will need to change to suit their needs. Their design
needs to be suitable to the amount of money that they are willing to spend so that it is affordable,
this then reduces the chance of abandoning the project. The client can influence the design by
wanting the latest taste and technology however this all comes down to the cost. Secondly the more
knowledge and experience that the people involved have the more chance the design process runs
smoothly as everyone will understand what to do.
Another factor which links to the legality of the design is the regulations and requirements. This
need to be took into consideration when the design process has begun. The design needs to meet
planning regulations, building regulations and Health & Safety requirements. All of which hold
constraints on the design so they need to be followed so that the building is passed by the authority.
Finally the design process is influenced by the area around where it is being built so that it meets the
social and community needs and the infrastructure in that area whilst considering the

Drawing And Drawing Essay
When most people think about the first things they really enjoyed doing as children, drawing is one
of the first things that come to mind. Not only is it one of the first things human beings enjoy doing,
but it is also one of the first things they are taught how to do. Schools first educated children in how
to draw simply to show the children that it is encouraged to have an imagination and it is acceptable
to illustrate their imagination for others to see. Drawing is emboldened by not only teachers and
elders, but is also stimulated and inspired by a person's peers. Peers have a great influence as they
push one another to become more superior and efficient than one another. Additionally, it is
important to note that engineers often find themselves in situations where peers push them to design
and redesign their own inventions. As engineers refine their abilities to draw and to design, they
further lengthen the drawing and designing process. Furthermore, as an engineer becomes better at
designing and drawing they not only become more detailed, but also draw a design and redraw it in
many different ways just to find the most efficient and best design. The best engineers are often the
most detailed artists; this can be seen from many famous engineers, such as Leonardo Da Vinci.
From the life of Da Vinci and many other famous engineers, it is quite obvious that drawing is a
quintessential component to being a good engineer. Every engineer must hone their drawing skills

The Goal Of The Project Was To Create A Prototype Autonomous

  • 1. The Goal Of The Project Was To Create A Prototype Autonomous The goal of the project was to create a prototype Autonomous Lunar Vehicle (ALV) that is capable of traversing lunar surfaces in order to ensure the delivery and accurate placement of antennas to multiple defined coordinates. It was decided that to consider the model successful, the ALV must accomplish its primary task in successfully delivering the undamaged antennas to their necessary locations. A list of design specifications was created in order to further distinguish the success of an ALV design. A functional block diagram (Figure 4) was developed in order to display the necessary components of potential designs. In order to complete this goal, a Gantt Chart (Figure 5) was developed in order to aid the design process by setting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A Raspberry Pi computer was set up to the Python software and, within testing, proved to not only be noticeably slower but also be extremely less accurate, as shown in Figure 9. This data was collected in a tool that was created to measure the exact angle of motor turns at the same settings, shown in Figure 10. This data, along with previous experience, lead to the chosen programming language to be C. Before this code could be implemented, it was decided that the overall systems needed to be developed first. Brainstorming was conducted in determining the drive system and the dispenser to be needed which would result in being similar to the manufactured designs. Brainstorming for these systems primarily were drawings, with the Figure 11 image being the intended design to have an idea of choices for decision matrices. This became the first preliminary design (Figure 12) followed this design's idea but with slight modifications. The base was first built with treads in order to ensure that there is sufficient traction and synchronized wheels for accurate movement. A simple RobotC code was developed to simply make this drive system drive around, which demonstrated to suffice to the design requirements by being able to move or turn in a desired fashion and at a range of speeds. A flowchart (Figure 13) was developed in order to directly relate to the original code and plan additional code for the functions of the ALV. It was desired to have a slower speed as this ... • 2. Essay about Summary of History of Graphic Design by Meggs Chapter 1: The Invention of Writing – From the early Paleolithic to the Neolithic period (35,000 BC to 4,000 BC), early Africans and Europeans left paintings in caves, including the Lascaux caves in Southern France. – Early pictures were made for survival and for utilitarian and ritualistic purposes. – Petroglyphs are carved or scratched signs on rock. – These images became symbols for what would be the first spokenlanguage. – Cuneiform – Wedged shaped writing, created in 3000BC. Started as pictographs. – With the discovery of cuneiform, there was a knowledge explosion, where libraries were organized filling with tablets about religion, mathematics, and history. Writing enabled society to stabilize itself, and laws were ... This is also known as relief printing. – The oldest surviving printed manuscript is the Diamond Sutra. – The invention of paper and printing arrived in Europe just as the Renaissance began. Chapter 4: Illuminated Manuscripts – Hand–written books are referred to as Illuminated Manuscripts. – Two notable traditions of illuminated

  • 4. Performance Based Design For An Integrated Solution PERFORMANCE BASED DESIGN The concept of achieving design with some focus on performance is not new, the tools and methods that changes. To discuss performance for design, it is important to classify and separate its functions and features. If a building consists of a set of parameters, the design process can be associated to a balance act, where parameters are weight and arranged to t the context of a project. In traditional architectural design, the use of measurable parameters often postponed or take place in a later phase of the design process. The concept design is rather focused on aesthetics, plan functionality and experience of spaces, however, this approach limits the success of an integrated solution. Today, there is an almost understood association with computational tools along with the measurable parameters and thresholds. The massive power of computation makes it superlative for repeating calculations, it could be useful in optimization algorithms for instance, and the target parameters for the optimization have to be simple enough to be expressed in a computer algorithm. In the application of structural engineering, these quantiable and measurable parameters could be mass, force, moment, deflection or even cost. Karamba plug–in for Rhinoceros 3D software is a physics engine and a good example of an interactive, parametric finite element program that helps analyzing the responses of shell structures and 3D beams under arbitrary loads. • 7. My Senior Year Of High School Since the beginning of my senior year of high school, I received the amazing opportunity to belong to a community of interior and event designers at Suzanne Nichols Design Group. The showroom is located in Orlando, so whenever I visit or am home for break I continuously work with the company in the community. The experience helps me to understand the many different genres that are utilized within the community. They help us to communicate with each other, the clients, and the business as a whole. We often take on many beautiful designer homes and design many special events such as weddings, office banquets, birthday parties, and anniversary parties. Many of the genres we utilize included meeting agendas, proposals, floor plans, invoices, sample design boards, and also event promotional flyers. A collaboration of the different genres come together to make the work more organized, less stressful and even exciting. Primarily, a meeting agenda is created so we know what to discuss with our clients, as well as, questions that need to be asked. It normally consists of bullet points with various topics in chronological order of the way they should be reviewed and talked about. The meeting agendas are important to the design process and design community because they help us get a good understanding of exactly what our client wants and requirements. Normally, our clients usually range from a family looking to design a newly purchased home, or a bride wanting to have a beautifully ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Parametric Urbanism Is Based On Parametric Design Systems Interconnectivity of Variables Parametric urbanism is based on parametric design systems, in which the parameters of a particular object are declared, and not its geometry. The focus of interest is not the form itself, but the parameters which have generated them (Canuto, R. and Amorim, L., 2012). In this context, geometries with parameters are created to be related with all other design components, where any specific variation will lead to an adaptation response in the geometries forming the model. This will create a very dynamic and interactive urban planning solution, interconnected and related to all variables of the urban system, where each active variable changes through the system variations, and the current model generates changes in the urban proposal, without losing the consistency and integrity of the previous model (Pinto, G. et al., 2013). Approaches of Parametric Urbanism The computational processes of form origination and transformation are referred to computational architectures. Using these technologies in design has established new concepts or approaches. Kolarevic stated a number of architectural subcategories that emerged in recent decades from studies with different computational techniques, such as topological space (topological architectures), isomorphic surfaces (isomorphic architectures), motion kinematics and dynamics (animate architectures), key shape animation (metamorphic architectures), parametric design (parametric architectures), and genetic ... The in–house master builder provided the company with an important attribute in accomplishing its goals in the company's redesign process and also contributes to the company's core competency. The master builder was a key factor because having one allowed Santa Cruz Bicycles to take control over the company's design and business process. The company would also have full control of problems related to quality and turnaround time. The in–house builder would reduce the sluggish response times coupled with slow issue resolution, hence, the long time the company took to bring the new product to the market. Outsourcing provides companies with a competitive advantage by delegating business process to external sources and to realize the benefits of low labor, better quality, and improved innovation. Santa Cruz Bicycles did not accomplish its goal of a short time in the design process by outsourcing part its design process. Architectural professional practice is a relatively regional field in which architects conduct their comprehensive manner in a specific localized territory. Due to the current fact that more and more American architects practice in China, it is not an easy time for them to interact or communicate with remote brains on the other side of earth. The different cultural and social backgrounds have become the source of misunderstanding and problems in the process of cooperation, which may lead to unfavorable consequences. As a Chinese architectural student who has studied in America and worked in local projects for the U.S. architectural firm, I have experienced many differences between the two sides. • 11. How Graphic Design Influence Our View Of The World? How does graphic design influence our view of the world? As viewers we are exposed to images constantly, and in the case of graphic design the images we see are designed to communicate messages to us. Barnard (2005:1) claims that 'most people see more examples of graphic design before they go to work than they see examples of art in a year', thus it is apparent just how powerful graphic design is, as well as how influential to us. This essay concerns the application of graphic design in two contrasting ways; in order to efficiently communicate knowledge, and also to communicate solidarity, peace and respect. These message of knowledge is evidenced in the works of Erik Spiekermann and the design company MetaDesign Berlin, who created a simplified map of the Berlin transportation systems, in the style of Henry Beck, which did not follow geographical accuracy, however it was exactly what travellers needed. Moreover, the message of solidarity is found within the work of Jean Jullien whose work is reliant on evoking emotion in the viewer, and who created the iconic 'Peace for Paris' illustration that quickly became the symbol for solidarity in 2015, following the tragic Paris attacks. There is a type of design that aids us in consuming knowledge fluently and that is Information Design, this tool combines text and imagery in order to transform content, the purpouse of this is that it can be consumed by us in a far more efficient manner. As engineers, it is not only seen as fulfilling a social responsibility or an ethical obligation, but considered the top most priority in our line of duty. It is partially for this reason that design standards, codes and specifications have been established. These design standards serve as guidelines or insurance so to speak for an engineer to meet his or her legal obligations. However, at the end of the day it is the engineer's responsibility for bearing any consequences, not the design codes used. Over the centuries, the need arose to have codes addressing ethics since there have been countless instances of an action considered legal but far from ethical. Among ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Best Engineering Judgement In the event the local codes and standards are at a level below what the engineer is accustomed to, should the engineer use the first as the basis for providing the solution design? The engineer may well be within his or her legal right, but the question thereafter asked is whether this decision can be considered ethical. Whilst meeting that country's minimum building requirements, the engineer will most likely be opposing the first canon, thereby leaving leeway for potential safety risks to the general public; risks that were foreseen and not mitigated. It is these instances where an engineer's best judgement becomes very important. As the engineer decides on which standards to employ, a balance will need to be struck between the local standards and that which the engineer is accustomed to and/or in conjunction with global building codes. To establish a balance, an engineer, thus uses his best judgement to make compromises. This decision making process, whilst a critical and difficult one, an engineer should recognize that he or she does not have to do so alone. Of course the canons help to guide the engineer, but an important characteristic to have as an engineer is to be open–minded. In keeping an open mind you learn from other engineers who have faced a similar dilemma since they may have suggestions to offer. As an engineer, you may also bring seek the right people to aid you in making your decision about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Wearable Technologies And Mobile Ehealth Applications Wearable technologies and mobile eHealth applications have becomes very popular in the recent years. From Fitbit to My eHealth, these technologies are making it easier for people to monitor their lifestyles and health. These technologies are making is easier for people to control their health by having more access to information and the ability to look up their record without having to go into the doctor's office. With the advancement in these technology, there is also barriers to the deployment of them. I believe the biggest barriers to deployment of wearable technologies and mobile eHealth applications are design, data collection, and lack of interoperability. Discussion Design is a huge barrier to both wearable technologies and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Design is a huge factor when deploying wearable technologies and eHealth systems. Unless there is a good design that is not bulky and is easy to use, users will not want to adopt the new product. The second barrier is data collection, with the rise of wearable technology and eHealth applications the collection of data has been increasing. Data collection is the center of all applications and wearables. How is data being used or what is the company storing? This is a huge barrier due to the fact that more people are becoming aware of their personal privacy. With phones your GPS is tracked unless specifically turned off and you are able to get a workout at a click of a button. But with all of this data being collected, are companies only using it for your personal use or are they using it for another matter (Hooge, 2015)? Data collection is a barrier due to the fact that people do not know what the companies are using the data for. Most users of the wearables or eHealth applications do not own their data, the data is instead stored and collected by the companies. Users only get provided with a summary of the data collected while the company has free reign to do whatever they please with it. With the increase of people understanding their privacy and rights, it provides a barrier with wearables and eHealth applications as people want to understand how their data is being used (Piwek, Ellis, ... • 14. Associative Parametric Urbanism : A Computational Approach... ASSOCIATIVE PARAMETRIC URBANISM: A Computational Approach to Parameterization of Conceptual Design Phase M.AYOUB Arab Academy for Science and Technology and Maritime Transport Alexandria, Egypt Email address: dr.ayoub@aast.edu Abstract. Urban planning projects usually comprises a complex set of objectives that needs to be addressed by developing a number of proposals, which require a lot of repetitive steps resulting in fewer and slowly–developed design alternatives. To address the limitations of existing systems, this research introduces the merge of associative parametric design tools with the conceptual design phase of urban planning process to propose a Parameterized Conceptual Design Phase. The developed associative algorithm within the proposed phase represents a computational approach that translates a site's settings into local attractors to define urban fabric and provide the designer with variations for optimal solutions. The Informal Settlement of Ezbet El Matar, Alexandria, is selected as the case study of this approach. 1. Introduction Urban planning lays the foundation for the new buildings and public spaces that shape our lives. Traditionally, urban planning process consists of a sequence of phases that may vary or overlap to suit the project nature. During the conceptual design phase, a complex set of objectives and requirements are addressed regarding certain factors such as land use, site considerations, circulation, and environmental issues. • 15. Simone Walsh : An Australian Eco Friendly Jewellery Designer Simone Walsh is an Australian eco–friendly jewellery designer based in Adelaide in her home studio; dealing with recycled milled sheets and wires of silver and gold and gemstones. As an eco– friendly designer Simone promotes use of ethically mined gemstones and lab gemstones; and recycled products, by re–newing them and this can be seen via her collection of 'recycled' jewellery in which are made purely by spare pieces of metal from her other collections. Simone's 'Forget–me– not Post' earrings are from her 'Recycled' collection, demonstrating the usage of the leftover metals, creating new earrings that are simple yet elegant. Simone hand produces all her jewellery, as she believes it is a method that can reduce pollution with smaller ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Simone is also a graduate of Visual arts, her take on her designs are artwork that are often inspired by ornaments and pattern designs or nature inspired detailing that she seeks interest in. The name of the business that Simone has set up in her 20–year endeavour is simply her 'Simone Walsh– Handmade Jewellery', in which encompasses her business in the title. However as all jewellery is all handmade, she is a micro–business in which is set up in her home studio in Adelaide, were she is the sole employee but supplied with material from other business she is in touch with and support from her family and friends. As her part of her eco–friendly policies, Simone does not use any technology based tools, but simply traditional metal work cutting, by usages of saw piercing, gliding and etching, and tries to avoid unnecessary chemical usages, but if needed she opts to a less acidic and safer option for the environment, for example borax for flux and citric acid for pickling. Also as she is an individual whom produces her products the over all production of all her jewellery are made with a limited amount of them until all of one design is all sold out does she repeat the process of creating the product again, hence managing her waste of material. She also manages the waste via the process of re–using spare pieces if possible but if not, Simone minimizes the amount of left over metal, and recycles them so they can be melted down and refined for ... • 16. Unit 5 P1 Unit 5 – Construction Technology and Design in Construction and the Built Environment Task 1 (P1, P2, P3, M1 & D1) P1 Describe the factors that influence the design process There are a variety of different factors that influence the design process. The first one is the client's needs and amount of money they have, the design has to suit the client's needs so that the design meets what they like. Therefore the design will need to change to suit their needs. Their design needs to be suitable to the amount of money that they are willing to spend so that it is affordable, this then reduces the chance of abandoning the project. The client can influence the design by wanting the latest taste and technology however this all comes down to the cost. Secondly the more knowledge and experience that the people involved have the more chance the design process runs smoothly as everyone will understand what to do. Another factor which links to the legality of the design is the regulations and requirements. This need to be took into consideration when the design process has begun. The design needs to meet planning regulations, building regulations and Health & Safety requirements. All of which hold constraints on the design so they need to be followed so that the building is passed by the authority. Finally the design process is influenced by the area around where it is being built so that it meets the social and community needs and the infrastructure in that area whilst considering the ... • 17. Drawing And Drawing Essay When most people think about the first things they really enjoyed doing as children, drawing is one of the first things that come to mind. Not only is it one of the first things human beings enjoy doing, but it is also one of the first things they are taught how to do. Schools first educated children in how to draw simply to show the children that it is encouraged to have an imagination and it is acceptable to illustrate their imagination for others to see. Drawing is emboldened by not only teachers and elders, but is also stimulated and inspired by a person's peers. Peers have a great influence as they push one another to become more superior and efficient than one another. Additionally, it is important to note that engineers often find themselves in situations where peers push them to design and redesign their own inventions. As engineers refine their abilities to draw and to design, they further lengthen the drawing and designing process. Furthermore, as an engineer becomes better at designing and drawing they not only become more detailed, but also draw a design and redraw it in many different ways just to find the most efficient and best design. The best engineers are often the most detailed artists; this can be seen from many famous engineers, such as Leonardo Da Vinci. From the life of Da Vinci and many other famous engineers, it is quite obvious that drawing is a quintessential component to being a good engineer. Every engineer must hone their drawing skills ...
