1. Question 7 – Looking back at
your preliminary task, what do you
feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full
product?
2. From the preliminary task to the main task there has been a huge
difference with my thought process of decision-making and why I
made certain decisions. Right at the start of the task there were
many things that I didn’t know about magazines such as certain
conventions of magazines and why/where particular things are
placed on and within a magazine. The research section of the task
is where I gained most of my knowledge on magazines and that’s
where I began to understand why certain decisions are made and
I then took all this knowledge and applied it to my preliminary task
and my main task.
3. When looking back at my preliminary task and then looking at
my main task I can see a huge improvement in the way I
thought about the decisions that I made and why I made them
in order to successfully show my genre of music for the main
task. For the preliminary task I was not able to gain much
feedback from my targeted audience where as, for the main
task the seven questions and the two interviews that I carried
out with two people from the audience my music magazine is
aimed at was very beneficial as I was able to adapt their
responses into my work. This enabled me to feel more confident
that my target audience would be attracted to my magazine.
However, for the prelim task my decision-making was more just
based on my partners opinions and mine with little input from
our target audience.
4. Moreover, I found that the quality of my pictures for my main task
were at a much higher standard than those for the prelim task as I
now knew more about camera angles, lighting and direct address
between the model and the reader. In relation to Photoshop I felt
much more confident using Photoshop when it came to the main
task as I had grasped it much more and knew how to do many
more things in comparison to when I started using it for the prelim
task; I felt much more limited during the prelim task as Photoshop
was still quite new to me.
5. Finally, I have learnt that time management has
been important throughout the coursework as I
had set deadlines for when certain parts of the
coursework had to be done. Therefore, in terms of
pictures and interviews it was important that I
chose reliable people to take part in those
sections for everything to run smoothly.
