The Importance Of Communication In Communication
Communication mediums varied depending on the situation. In law enforcement, choosing the right
medium source for the message can save lives and protect sensitive information. In contrast, an
improper medium distribution may cause confusion, implicate unwanted messages, and compromise
public safety. Accordingly, when selecting communication mediums, the audience should be
identified before a message is crafted and disseminated. Moreover, having someone with a working
knowledge of the spectrum of communication methods and proficient at public speaking can be
beneficial for a public safety agency (Patrick, 2017). In communication, choosing the correct
method and medium will depend on the types of messaging and whether it is directed at the public,
for internal information exchange, or to be communicated with other agencies. In law enforcement,
a myriad of communication mediums is available. However, agencies should be selective in
determining which medium will be more appropriate, depending on the communication goal. On
May 6, 2016, an elderly senile woman was reported missing in San Diego. The woman suffers from
Alzheimer and had been missing for 2–hours before the police were notified. Patrol officers
responded to the home of the missing woman and began gathering information about the woman
and her habits. Working against harsh terrain, above normal temperature, and fading daylight, a
Command Post was established and additional officers and volunteers were enlisted to initiate a
ground search. The ground search team traced possible routes the woman may have taken and went
door–to–door, asking for assistance from the surrounding neighborhoods. The incident Commander
also requested announcements be made via the police helicopter to reach more people. The police
department's Media Relations Unit prepared a flyer with the woman's photo and identification and
released it to the local News outlet. The Media Unit also posted the information on the department's
Facebook page and NextDoor.com (a web–based information network) to alert not only the
surrounding neighborhoods, but anyone on the site can see, comment, and share the information. By

Linguistic Elements In Mcluhan's Medium Is The Message
"The ear favors no particular "point of view."" This direct quote is the first thing said in McLuhan's
short passage in his book, "Medium is the message". This quote starts off the passage and it sets a
good foundation for the central idea, being that our ears hear everything, from secrets to

McLuhan uses one main visual element, that being the big "BANG!" on the left side of the passage.
I believe that this visual element has a great impact on the delivery of the message because it really
breaks down what sound is in it's purest form. The bang symbol is usually used a lot in comics and

Newspapers have traditionally been an important part of civil society, providing information to
citizens, convening groups around events and issues, and serving as a watchdog against abuses by
those in power. Going back to the Revolutionary War, newspapers have served to connect their
community and relay information to those unconnected otherwise. Through the atrocities of the
Vietnam War, surprise and indignation of Watergate, and the disgust of the Iran Contra investigation,
newspaper reporters consistently broke stories that had national impact. Even the recent Clinton e–
mail scandal was discovered by a reporter for the New York Times. (Huffington Post 2015)
Circulation has declined throughout the last decade with the rise of the twenty–four hour cable news
as well as the internet. Cable news outlets (as seen with both Fox and CNN) do not report
impartially, however, and the internet is open to whoever can write a post. The journalism standards
set by newspapers have been set aside and replaced by biased reporters and the random individual
spreading their version of the news. Although traditional print newspapers seem to be on the way
out, the role of journalism has never been more important. Newspapers provide an important role as

First, let us touch upon what really is a smartphone, and the evolution of the medium itself.
Although the mobile phone has been used for many decades, the smartphone has been one of the

Miscommunication can be said as a failure to fully or clearly communicate a message across to
another person. In simple words, miscommunication occurs when a message is not communicated
as per the sender's desire to the receiver i.e. the message sent and received are not same.
Some of the reasons for miscommunication are: –
A. ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE: –
Most of the large organizations have too many vertical communication links which distorts the
message as it moves from one organizational level to another. This creates a lot of problems as the
message loses its original meaning.
Every company has certain communication policies that lays down the method for communication.
If the method is complex and difficult to understand it gives rise to communication barriers. Eg. If a
junior level employee intends to communicate with his seniors, there is a certain protocol to be
followed which may be lengthy and time consuming as it has to pass certain levels of hierarchy in
the organization before it reaches to the seniors. To avoid such barriers, the end receiver should be
contacted directly so as to maintain the integrity of the messages which would enable quick action
on urgent matters. Also oral communication should be encouraged to reduce dependence on others
to transfer information.
Techniques such as open–door policies, employee surveys, task groups etc. should be used to reduce

Take the newspaper or any written article for example. Now here is a quote from a pregame
interview by Tom Brady, addressing the lack of crowd noise at home games:

inflection in his voice, it was obvious he was just having fun with the media and fans. Even though
there was no malicious intent, this shows how when the medium changes, that peoples interpretation
can be skewed very easy. So it can be said as the medium changing can inadvertently affect the

The workplace is an environment that is constantly changing the way managers and co–workers
communicate. Whether it may be in communicating in person or online there are typically different
approaches to the communicating to different audiences in the workplace. When co–workers
communicate they often send emails to each other regarding a certain objective. The same principle

communicare, which means to share or impart. Communication is a crucial part of everyone's daily
routine. Communication is a process that engages at least two peoples: sender and receiver and
continuously takes places in every field including education field, medical field, tourism field,
business field and so forth. Communication plays an important role in establishing ideas, needs and
concerns later to start a common understanding among sender and receiver. Few studies are done on
the topic of communication and prove that almost 70 to 80% of every individual's time is spent on
communication. According to MTD Training (2010), communication is defined as an "art and
process of creating and sharing ideas" (p. 9). There are four stages to ensure communication process
flows effectively: sender expresses the message, message transmits through the medium, the
recipient interprets the message and recipient returns feedback to the sender (Finkelstein, 2002) (see
Figure 1 in Appendix). The first stage in communication process is where the sender expresses the
message. Sender is referred to the person who starts a communication. Communication process
starts with sender and ends with receiver or recipient in the communication process model, and "if
both fulfill their roles, the communication will be successful" (Williams, Krizan, Logan, & Merrier,

In the case of a specific theatrical production, its message may be a change in attitude or action on
the part of the audience that results from the medium of the play itself, which is quite distinct from
the medium of theatrical production in general. Similarly, the message of a newscast are not the

Assembly, is a small town located on a lake in New York, about an hour south of Buffalo. The ghost
town was founded in 1879 as the Cassadaga Lake Free Association. It took its current in in 1906,
named for the lilies covering Cassadaga Lake. Just like any other town, Lily Dale has a post office,
volunteer fire department, library, and a playground. There also is a coffee shop, two restaurants, a
