The Film 3 Idiots, A Critically Acclaimed Film By Rajkumar...
Despite being a country that is wrapped in its own traditional ways and values, India as a country
has been taking many steps towards modernizing itself for a better future for its younger and
upcoming generations. One of these steps was the film 3 Idiots, a critically acclaimed film by
Rajkumar Hirani. Its story and morals not only expressed the hidden and, in some cases, ineffable
opinions of the Indian youth, but challenged the traditional customs and practices of raising children
performed by older generations. Similar to Akhil Sharma's Family Life, the film tells the story of
three boys and their experiences during their upbringing, focusing primarily on their college life and
adulthood. While consisting of different tones and themes, both Family Life and 3 Idiots approach
and challenge the views behind the value of education in India, while motivating the youth to
express and follow their own beliefs despite peripheral influences. Due to the importance of
traditional views in India, many of the families follow a hierarchy, meaning the children in the
family hold little power when making decisions regarding themselves. This results in the child's
future to be decided by the parents, indifferent of the child's interests or skills. Therefore, indifferent
of the child's interests or skills, their future is decided by their parents, futures which lie within the
boundaries of either the engineering or medical field due to their popularity and financial results.

Tutor: Ms. Zhou Nannan Question 1
"Linguistic relativity" and "linguistic determinism" are strong version and weak version of Sapir–
Whorf hypothesis respectively. According to XX (), "linguistic relativity" is defined as the variation
of cognitive processes among languages due to cultural differences. The individuals see, experience
and interpret the world based on the structure of the language they habitually use. Such linguistic
categories and usage influence thought and certain kinds of non–linguistic behavior, carve up and
name the world differently. Linguistic relativism acknowledges that conceptual paradigms of
thought can be changed, extended, broadened and reshaped with respect to the experience the
individual has or the exertion the individual makes.
On the other hand, "linguistic determinism" is the idea that language and its structures limit and
determine human though patterns and knowledge, as well as thought processes such as
categorization, memory, and perception, assuming that language both reflects and limits human
mentality and its ability to make cross–cultural connections such as bilingualism and translation. ...

It is because "linguistic relativity" is a matter of the way to view the world, which differs among
cultural variance; but, "linguistic determinism" is a matter of the cognition and perception process,
which relatively gives regular nonlinguistic cognitive processes to certain culture, and leads people
in the same culture to have same differentiation in most cases. Therefore, "linguistic determinism"
sees only the rigidity of the contrasts between

You Just Dont Understand By Deborah Tannen
Every day, at home or at workplaces, people engage in conversations involving the opposite gender.
How does gender play a critical role in a conversation? Reasonings behind the existence of
"genderlect" are quite complex. Bill Cosby once said "Men and women belong to different species
and communication between them is a science still in it infancy (Eisenberg)." Men and women are
born with the same brains. However, the way they function differently when having conversations.
When men and women communicate, men mostly use the left side of their brains while women are
capable of using both sides explaining the excellent in their multi–tasking skills. Surprisingly,
biological differences are not responsible for the genderlect, but the social norms and cultural
backgrounds. These factors further differentiate conversations between men and women. Deborah
Tannen, professor of linguistics at Georgetown University has written extensively on genderlect in
her national best selling book, "You Just Don't Understand: Women and Men in Conversation." In
her book (Tannen, 1990), she explores in depth about different conversational styles of men and
women with relatable examples. She also suggests some steps that could be taken to relieve people's
frustrations towards each other's differences. Tannen's focus is mainly on the sociolinguistic side of
linguistics and the verbal–communication. According to the book (1990), genderlect can be caused
by the difference in the environments people

Domestic And International Asian Students
Table 3 shows that no significant difference was observed between the overall scores of adjustment
in domestic and international Asian students. This finding is different from previous studies that
showed East Asian students to have difficulty understanding the academic content resulting in poor
adjustment success (Lee, Farruggia, & Brown, 2013). To test our main hypothesis, JASP was used to
generate data through descriptive statistics, ANOVA and further post hoc analyses. Initially, we
generated descriptive statistics to show the raw means. Table 4 displays this descriptive data
indicating that international students performed better than domestic students on university
adjustment (M = 34.60, SD = 2.60) and social interaction (M = 15.20, ... Show more content on

To test the second hypothesis, further sampled t–test comparisons were conducted. Table 3 shows a
strong significance between the different categories of adjustment, F(2, 81) = 197.09, p < .001, η² =
.813; however, the significance was ambiguous. To see where the difference happened, we
conducted t test comparisons. When comparing local university adjustment with international
university adjustment (t[4] = –1.990, p> .05, d = –.890), local social interaction with international
social interaction (t[4] = –0.732, p> .05, d = –.328) and local academic achievement with
international academic achievement (t[4] = .793, p> .05, d = –.355)–no significance was found. In
addition, the significant values were found when academic achievement was compared with
university adjustment in domestic and international students. This was a potential error of key score
differences between the categories (Table 2). Table 5 provides the complete list of all the
comparisons and displays where the results showed significance. Through this statistical analysis,
our second hypothesis failed to be true as well.
Interestingly, an interaction was found to be significant for social interaction and academic
achievement. Figure 2 provides a visual representation of this result.
Discussion
The purpose of this study was to find the underlying differences between international and domestic
students. We used Asian students specifically for data to see whether they differ from one another

My Papa's Waltz
The Father–Son Connection
One of the most powerful relationships someone ever forms is the connection that they have with
their own father. "Those Winter Sundays" by Robert Hayden and "My Papa's Waltz" by Theodore
Roethke are both poems that brilliantly describe this powerful relationship between father and son.
The feelings that the poets have toward the subject are found deep within the two poems often
hidden behind how the character feels toward his own father. Even though these poems were
published in different time periods, one feels the similarities and differences within the tone, form,
or even the imagery of the poems.

But when one is to look at the tone in "those Winter Sundays" they may find that it's very regretful.
The adult narrator is remembering the admirable qualities of his dead father. The narrator refers to
his father 's with "then with cracked hand that ached/in the weekday weather made/banked fires
blaze. No one ever thanked him," which demonstrates that the child took the father and his actions
for granted, and now, as an adult, the speaker is feeling remorse for it. The narrator copes with the
loss of his father and his inability to tell the father that he appreciated the "Sunday ritual" by saying
"What did I know, what did I know/of love 's austere and lonely offices."
The few similarities of these poems lie in the idea behind the writing. Both Hayden and Roethke
seem to have created a poem that is about the bond between father and son. Even more so, the
poems both take the form of a memory of the speaker who is looking back to a time that they
remember with their own father. The last major difference in these two poems is how the author uses
imagery within the work. In "Those Winter Sundays" there is no expression of warmth within
human activity. These images reflect the cold of the house, the cold of the father 's hands, "that
ached" and the cold in the boy 's heart, "speaking indifferently." On

Cross Cultural Differences in Math Performance: Linguistic Influence on Development in Eastern
and Western Children
Christina Jeon

PSY440H1
Introduction Various surveys and cross cultural studies examining children 's mathematical
achievement around the world have shown, fairly consistently, that Asian students continue to
perform better than Western students in mathematics (Mark & Dowker, 2015; Paik, Gelderen,
Gonzales, Jong, & Hayes, 2011). Studies have also indicated that this distinct gap in performance
begins to show even before children have had any kind of formal schooling (Mark & Dowker,
2015). This has only served to further reinforce the stereotype that Asian people are naturally good
at math; there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite this line of thinking, which has been suggested for at least one to two hundred years, there is
new evidence to indicate that mathematical development in children is more complicated than first
thought (Mark & Dowker, 2015; Dowker & Roberts, 2015). It also suggests that language plays a
slightly different role in the arithmetic learning than was previously hypothesized (Mark & Dowker,
2015; Dowker & Roberts, 2015; Paik et al., 2011).
Linguistic Influence on Mathematics A wide range of cross cultural studies have been done to
examine the degree of influence that language has on the development of mathematical skills, with
varying results (Mark & Dowker, 2015; Dowker & Roberts, 2015; Paik et al., 2011). Recent cross
cultural research has painted a very different picture of the extent that language truly influences the
development of mathematical skills in children as they enter school (Mark & Dowker, 2015;
Dowker & Roberts, 2015, Paik et al., 2011). LT has been found to have more specific influences on
learning mathematics than the broad pervasive effect it was previously thought to have (Mark &
Dowker, 2015; Dowker & Roberts, 2015). Studies comparing children of different ethnic
backgrounds, have shown that East Asian children tend to outperform American children or children
from other Western countries (Mark & Dowker, 2015; Paik et al., 2011). In a study comparing
British children with Chinese children from Hong Kong, it was

Similarities Between The Dead Man 's Pocket And The Trip...
Similarities and differences are used in stories to often help support the plot. They help to move the
story along. In the short stories; The Pedestrian by Ray Bradberry, Contents of the Dead Man's
Pocket by Jack Finney, and The Trip by Laila Lalami there are similar settings, themes, conflicts,
and characters that the authors use to help develop the plot. The stories may have different concepts
and meanings which help bring forth the plot. These similarities and differences are used to help
support how the reader feels and how the story is developed. All through the three selections, the
setting helps to create the mood and atmosphere. In Contents of the Dead Man's Pocket, the
protagonist, Tom, is stuck in a life or death situation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The settings were in completely different places and time zones. They also created different
atmospheres at different times. When Tom managed to get into his house, the tense atmosphere was
lost, replaced with a relieved one. When Murad was caught, the almost hopeful feel was demolished,
replaced for a disappointed feeling. When Leonard was caught as he was walking, the remotely
confused and slightly relaxed atmosphere was replaced with a tense, cautious feel. The settings
being so similar yet so different helped the authors to create the mood and feelings for the stories.
Within the three stories, the characters and their thoughts and actions help to guide the story. In
Contents of the Dead Man's Pocket, the main character, Tom, is very stubborn as well as completely
obsessed with his work. He spent weeks on a project that was not even assigned to him. He wasted
his life doing pointless things. In the story he thinks, "Nothing, then could ever be changed; and
nothing more– no least experience or pleasure– could ever be added to his life." This attribute of
Tom caused the plot to move and the main events to occur. In The Pedestrian, Leonard, the
protagonist, was different. He did not conform to his society. The text says, "...one house in an entire
city of houses that were dark, but this particular house had all of its electric lights brightly lit, every
window a loud yellow illumination, square

Difference Between Language And Linguistics
INTRODUCTION
Although language and linguistics have differences, they interact with each other via significance,
influence and implications shared through language teaching.
Linguistics is the scientific study of language which is composed of sound and speech sound, and is
concerned with how language is structured, how language is changed, how people use the language
and what they must know in order to do so. In the 19th century, the focus of linguistics was more
about writing than speaking, however in the 20th century, the focus was initially on the primary
sound, and furthermore on the superficial nature of writing. Many features are related to modern
linguistics, which range from physical properties of sound waves in utterances, to the intentions
speaker have towards conversation with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

5. Communicative competence
Communicative competence is described as grammatical understanding of the perfect language, and
does not relate to the authentic use of language in actual circumstances. Communicative competence
emphasises the context in which utterance transpires, and the skill to accomplish a range of speech
acts. Four main components include:
5.1. Possibility – ability to produce grammatical sentences; related to whether something is officially
possible or not. An open, knowledgeable and experienced speaker understands the sentence me go
sleep now contravenes the grammatical rules, while I am going to sleep now does not (Cook, 2003)
5.2. Feasibility – ability to produce sentences which can be decoded by human brain; related to
whether something is achievable or not. Feasibility refers to "a psychological concept concerned
with limitation to what can be processed by the

Beowulf vs. Modern Day Superhero
"It's a bird...it's a plane...no! It's Superman!" When people say a modern day superhero, the names
"Spiderman", "Superman", and "Catwoman" flash into mind. However, we forget about one of the
most influential superheroes of today's time; a soldier. Despite the differences, there are many
similarities between Beowulf and a soldier because the two have more in common than we realize.
As much as two great humans could have so much in common, Beowulf and a soldier have
differences as most people in life do. These include the fact that soldiers are paid for their services,
whereas Beowulf battles for his people without a fee. However, in all due respect, most soldiers in
the United States fight for our country because they are passionate, ... Show more content on

Benefits Of A Flight Attendant
Working as a waitress in a bar or a restaurant, and working as a flight attendant may sound the same
but these are different types of careers. A flight attendant is a person who offers services to
customers in an aircraft. While a waitress or waiter, is a person who offers services to customers at a
table in a restaurant. Anybody can become a waitress. But to become a flight attendant, there are
certain requirements to meet up with such as; having a valid passport, a passed background checks,
a one to two years' experience in service occupation. A flight attendant need to undergo training and
take and exam and can only be awarded the license upon their success. Even though being a waitress
or a flight attendant may sound the same due to some similarities in providing services to customers,
and ensuring customer's safety, certain factors make these two careers different from each other. The
first difference between these two careers is the knowledge required. Apart from serving food and
drinks to customers, a flight attendant has a lot of weeks and months of training to undergo such as;
service training, customer's safety in case of an emergency, and layout such as how to open and lock
the door of the plain. Moreover, a waitress requires training too but not as vigorous as a flight
attendance. A waitress or a waiter needs to know the various menus, how they are being prepared,

The Bystander Effect
PART 2 ESSAY
This essay will compare and contrast the two approaches to investigating the 'bystander effect'. It
will first discuss in some depth as to what exactly is meant by the bystander effect, giving some
examples of this and then go on to illustrate when this concept was first shown and why. An outline
will then be made showing the different methods in which social scientists have investigated this
explaining the different methods used. The essay will then show examples of the differences and
similarities used in both methods. Concluding with a summary of findings into the two approaches
used in investigating the Bystander Effect.
Firstly 'The Bystander Effect' (Latne & Darley, 1970) is described as the finding that an individual is

both looking for answers. Thirdly, both set out to explain the bystander effect and its impact on such
situations. All this within the background of taking into account and looking at why people in both
cases behave in ways that seem to appear to go against the commonly accepted social rules, in that
people ought to look out for one another and that people should help others in an emergency
especially our neighbours and especially the vulnerable members of society. (Byford, J.2014
Pp.227).
Fourthly, although separated in time the 'Genovese and Bulger' cases generated a lot of publicity and
each saw the conduct of 'bystanders' being scrutinised by the media and was a topical point of
conversation by the public, leading to questions on how this could happen thus prompting social
scientists in both cases to investigate.
Fifthly, another similarity albeit not a good one for having no resolution is that neither method has to
date come up with any strategy or strategies that would be able to increase the intervention by
bystanders during an emergency situation. (Levine, M

Communicative Competence and Applied Linguistics
Language teaching is a challenging task for many teachers and educators.
Teachers try to manipulate the different theories and methods while teaching any language to

focuses on the implementation of different methods and theories, detecting the popping problems
and analyzing theses problems to find the best solutions in for teachers. It is mainly the field of
study that identifies, investigates and offers solution to any language problems related to real life

communication. Communicative competence is also referred to as linguistic competence according
to Yule; and this shows that language is communication and communication is not completed
without using the appropriate and understandable language. Therefore, it can be said that the main
difference between the Communicative competence and the Linguistic is that the linguistic

Communicative Competence or language knowledge that the students or native learners have. As
Chomsky defined it "Communicative competence is made up of four competence areas which are

Analysis Of The Poem ' The Oysters ' By Tobias Wolff
There are two short stories with different settings. "Oysters," written by Anton Chekhov, takes a
place in the nineteenth century Moscow. It begins with a flashback, which the author recalls on the
day that he and his father try to beg for alms in order to satisfy their hunger, which happens when he
is a child. While his father hesitates to ask people for alms, he sees a word–oysters– on a placard.
Since he does not know what oysters look like, he asks his father what oysters are and imagines a
delicious fish soup, however, when his father tells what oysters really look like, he starts to feel
disgusted. When he is crying for oysters, two gentlemen drag him to the restaurant to let him eat
oysters. In the end, he gets to eat oysters, but it does not make him satisfied, in fact, it makes him
sick.
On the other hand, "Powder," written by Tobias Wolff, takes a place in the modern state of
Washington. The author begins with the story by telling that the father and his son go to Mount
Baker for skiing. The father has a difficult relationship with his wife that they are about to break up.
When he and his son decide to go home, they are unable to do so because the road is closed due to
snow. Since the father wants to go home as quick as possible, he tries to call state troopers to move
away, which is breaking law. "Oysters" and "Powder" seems to have few relationships with each
other because of the different settings. However, they contain some important similarities and

Anthony Burgess' A Clockwork Orange – Linguistic Differences in the Film and Novel A
Clockwork Orange, written by Anthony Burgess, is experienced differently as a novel than it is as
the movie directed by Stanley Kubrick. The heart of the difference between the two forms is
expressed by Bakhtin: "The potential for ['double–voiced discourse' between the author and
narrator] is one of the most fundamental privileges of novelistic prose, a privilege available neither
to dramatic nor to purely poetic genres" (Bakhtin, 320).1 An entire dimension of the novel's story is
lost in the movie when Alex's role is reduced from narrator to commentator. The ability of Burgess
to speak indirectly to the audience through Alex is removed, and the ... Show more content on

happening when Alex says, "you may, O my brothers, have forgotten what these mestos were like,
things changing so skorry these days and everybody very quick to forget, newspapers not being read
much neither" (Burgess 1). On one level, Alex says these words to comment on the way society is
going. He presupposes his audience has a basic familiarity with his world. He reminds his audience
what sort of "mestos" the milk–bars were, but does not need to explain what a "mesto" is. On
another level, Burgess uses this moment to give the reader some indication of the setting. Through
this commentary of Alex's, the reader's subconscious mind is able to pick up on the fact that time has
passed for Alex since the events of the story took place. This difference in time between action and
narration is resolved with the controversial twenty–first chapter, where Alex looks back at his
younger days and the way he spent his time, and feels bored with it. At the same time, the reader
detects some trace of an unstable social and political situation around Alex. The audience Alex is
addressing with the familiar "O my brothers" is different from the audience which Burgess is
addressing–the readers of his novel. While the readers of Burgess' novel are also the audience of
Alex's story, Alex does not

Holden Caulfield, from J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye
Holden vs. Will The characters Holden Caulfield, from J.D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye, and
Will Hunting, from Good Will Hunting, have very similar personalities; however, they live in
completely different worlds. The Catcher in the Rye is narrated by Holden Caulfield. He is a
seventeen year old from New York City, and in the book, he comes to terms with his past. The story
is told from a psychiatric institution. The movie Good Will Hunting is about a very intelligent
twenty year old, Will Hunting, who is a janitor at a school in south Boston. The major conflict with
the both of them is within their own mind. Part of them wants to connect with other people on an
adult level, while part of them wants to reject the world. The main difference between them has to
do with socio–economics, and how different their childhoods were. A main similarity between the
two is that they push things away, because they are afraid of getting attached to anything. Another
similarity is that they are both very intelligent young men, but are not necessarily good in school.
Even though Holden and Will grew up in almost opposite conditions, they have many similarities
when it comes to their personalities.
Socio–economics is one of the main differences between Holden Caulfield and Will Hunting.

The Old Man And The Sea
Both The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway and "To Build a Fire" by Jack London both
explore the literary conflict of man verses nature. Both main characters share many similarities;
however, they also have various differences that set them apart as well. In The Old Man and the Sea
the story is about Santiago, an old fisherman who sets out one day and catches the fish of a lifetime.
Santiago then spends multiple days fighting the fish in the middle of the ocean. "To Build a Fire" is
about a nameless traveler who goes hiking on a trail out in the Yukon with his dog to make it to his
base camp. He hikes in fifty below weather and have literally walked on thin ice to make it to his
destination safely. Despite being from different stories in different settings, both men share
similarities while they also share many differences that ultimately caused the men to suffer different
fates.
Santiago and the traveler share many similarities in their character and the positions they are placed
in their respective stories. Santiago is alone when he is out on his skiff for several days. While he is
alone, he is forced to talk to himself, the birds, and the fish, he expresses in innermost thoughts and
it lets the reader understand his process of securing his catch. Santiago, the old man as the book calls

`` Piano `` By D. H. Lawrence And Traveling Through The Dark
D. H. Lawrence, and English writer, and William Stafford, an American writer lived and wrote at
different times but their subject matter is often similar. "Piano" written by D. H. Lawrence and
"Traveling through the Dark" by William Stafford demonstrate remarkable similarity, each written
about experiences that describe emotions, however in very different ways. Although Lawrence and
Stafford are both respected poets, their writing styles, and expectations for readers differ
significantly. While Lawrence maintains a feeling of nostalgia and remembrances to keep the
reader's attention, Stafford's structure includes a bit of darkness and suspense for his readers. These
astute writers are similar in many ways, but they have one significant difference. The authors'
messages and delivery set them apart. Lawrence and Stafford were kind of rebels in the literary
field. One of Lawrence's most famous novels, Lady Chatterly's Lover defied censorship and was
banned from America until the late 1950's. "Piano" does not fit into the same mold, it is a
sentimental and loving poem. Critics often refer to Stafford as a pacifist and a conscientious objector
during the war. "Traveling through the Dark" follows the general style used in his poetry. He often
delivers messages that are direct and bold. Both poets were teachers at one point in their lives. Each
one wrote using deceptively simple language and ideas. Upon looking at these two poems, the
reader automatically sees

"Gender Differences in Managerial Communications: Fact or Folk–Linguistics?"
A response to Smeltzer and J. Werbel's study "Gender Differences in Managerial Communications:
Fact or Folk–Linguistics?"
Devin Lowe
MGMT 647: Organizational Behavior and Development Article Summary
"Gender Differences in Managerial Communication: Fact or Folk–Linguistics" seeks to test the
qualitative and stylistic differences that have been purported to exist between genders. The authors
question the credibility of previous studies and state numerous times that there is a high likelihood
that these earlier studies were subject to the bias of their researchers. The assertion is that many
conclusions are opinion based and speculative according to personal experience rather than
quantifiable data. Using a sample group of 2nd year MBA students and their writing examples, the
authors rated the communication based on 16 dimensions. Final results showed that there are
significant differences between distinct managerial communication samples, but not between
genders.
Traditional thoughts on women's communications show a notably stereotypical demonstration of
ineffective communication characteristics. These characteristics include verbosity, constrained
vocabulary, and indirect requests (Thorne and Henley, 1975). The authors at this point question the
validity of the stereotypes in regard to writing style and quality. They assert that folk–linguistics, or

Video Gaming And Its Impact On Society
Over the years, video gaming has become more and more popular and has started to become
something integrated in with society instead of being cast out of it. It has breached the generational
gap, joining the ranks of sports, movies, and other activities that people of all ages can enjoy.
Speaking of sports, gaming has spread its wings there as well, officially being dubbed esports or
electronic sports, gathering players from all over the globe and competing for trophies and cash
prizes. Two of the most popular esports are League of Legends, League for short, and Smite.
However, being similar games, many people claim that there is no difference between them, stating
that one ripped of the other and that the other is inferior in some way. However, just like football
and rugby, while they may look identical to anyone looking in from the outside, anyone who has
participated in both games for a decent time will tell you that they are drastically different in
gameplay, game feel, and design aspects. Before we compare the two of these games, we will briefly
go over what they are. Both League and Smite are MOBA's or Multiplayer Online Battle Arena. Just
like there are certain things that identify a car as a car and not, let's say, a toaster, there are certain
aspects that most MOBA games follow. In each game, there are two teams with a predetermined
number of players on each side. The goal of the game is to destroy the opponent's base before they
destroy yours. Each player controls

Suppose something happens that it was within your power to...
Suppose something happens that it was within your power to prevent? If you didn't have malicious
intent, was it still you fault? Does letting someone die when you know you had the capability of
saving them in turn make you a murderer? All of these are questions that philosophical thinkers have
tried to answer for centuries. The Doctrine of Acts and Omissions holds that it is morally worse to
commit an act that brings about a bad event than it would be merely to allow the event to take place
by not doing anything to prevent its occurrence. In essence, there is an intrinsic moral difference
between acting and the failure to act. In some ways, we bear more responsibility for what comes
about as a result of our doing something than for what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, and important note is that even though motives are the same, they are extrinsic difference
where the Doctrine speaks about intrinsic differences. Thus, active and passive euthanasia are
morally equivalent and it is not worse to preform active rather than passive euthanasia. Suppose I
want my baby nephew to die and I enter his bathroom with the intent of killing him. In scenario one,
I consciously and intentionally hold his head under the water until he drowns to death. In the second
scenario I walk in on him accidently slip and hit his head on the bathtub. He then goes unconscious
and drowns under water. I watch as this happens, but I don't make the small effort of picking up his
head from under the water. These two actions may seem like they aren't as morally taxing but since
the intentions were the same from the get go, they are in fact morally equivalent and just as bad. In
this case, the act of killing and the allowing the killing to occur are the same. A pragmatic example
of this argument that may help convince you on why acting and failing to act are morally equivalent
is in the world of dating. If someone is in a relationship with another person and wants to cheat, is
the act of pursuing someone and sleeping with them is same as allowing one to seduce you and you
stopping the act from occurring? The motives are the same in this case, and even if the motives were
different, they are extrinsic

Intelligence Correlations Between Brothers Decrease With Increasing Age Difference
Topic Background/Introduction
In this article, the researchers is the study how the age difference between brothers affect the
correlation between their intelligence–test scores. They describe how there has not been much
research on the effect of age difference between siblings (specifically brothers) on intelligence.
There have been many other studies that have shown that while both genes and differences in one's
environment may create differences between people, familial similarities are caused mostly by
shared genes (SSS. Studies using participants that were adopted show that intelligences seems to
vary with age. For instance, the correlation between the intelligence–test scores of young children
who are not related is much higher than that of the same children during adolescence. Other studies,
using twins, suggest that shared environmental effects are present in childhood and early adulthood,
but are absent in late adulthood. The researchers mention that studying adopted children, who are
usually brought into affluent and well–functioning? Homes, show that they are not representative of
the entire population. There are many more factors, when studying adopted siblings, and
identical/fraternal twins that can lead to an overestimation or underestimation of the effects of either
the shared environment or familial genetics. The researchers suggest that new data in needed to

Deborah Tannen Analysis
There are major differences in the world, such as the disparity between a solid and a liquid. But
there are also alterations that are subtle that often go unnoticed. Such as the difference between
someone who is hurting on the inside and someone who is not, the contrasts that people usually do
not want others to notice or people often miss. But what about the differences that are so obvious but
people are oblivious towards? Such as the differences between males and females; which consists of
a very large and obvious difference but I believe that the differences do not stop at their appearances
but is rooted further into themselves or their genders. Think a little harder into how male and
females differ; there are the obvious examples, starting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As mentioned earlier, Anna Fazackerley showed us how females are more likely to suffer anxiety
when speaking to a large crowd. But they also provide a very insightful piece of information about
the male gender as well. The article states, "In contrast, male respondents did not admit to similar
anxiety, perhaps because public confidence is key to the construction of masculine identity"
(Fazackerley 8). This piece of information can be eye opening for some, because there are males
that we know that act like this in public. The males that do not want to seem "weak" or "girly" in
fear of judgment from their peers. In this sense, males and females are similar. Both genders are
afraid of being judged by their peers, but both are different again, and show this reaction in opposite
ways. This type of reaction can be traced back into psychology, with a method called "nature vs.

Comparing The Reversal Design And Multiple Baseline Theory
In comparison to the reversal design mentioned in Chapter 4, the multiple baseline design is useful
when testing a treatment that produces irreversible effects, such as teaching a reading technique.
Similar to a reversal design, a multiple baseline design starts with a baseline condition, proceeding
with a treatment condition. Alternatively, a researcher using a multiple baseline design does not
repeat a baseline measurement after the treatment is implemented. This design was originally
developed for behavioral psychologists (Compton, 2010), but the application has spread; this design
is an informative tool for investigating changes in behavior over time. According to Horner et al.
(2005), multiple baseline studies involve giving a treatment at different delays after a baseline
measure is made. This is usually done using the baselines of multiple participants in order to prevent
any confounding results produced by multiple presentations of the treatment condition, although it is
true that some multiple baseline designs measure treatment effects at different delays using a single
participant (Cozby, 2009). In a multiple baseline design involving multiple participants, each
participant receives the same treatment condition; the time at which treatment is received differs
across participants. In the case that a researcher was using a multiple baseline design to measure
how the latency at which participants make cued decisions is affected by injections of phencyclidine
(PCP),

The 's A Dark Brown Dog, Now It 's Killing The Spider Essay
Speaker 2: First it's a dark brown dog, now it's killing the spider, what are you trying to do here?
[Overlapping talk]
Interviewer: So, what would you have done differently, if you could have done it over?
Jenny: I think maybe I would have typed up my notes and my process without doing a numbered
outline. Then, have kids go through and pick, say we wanted five most important steps, and grouped
them in more of the thought process than just writing it down. For simplicity, they saw the model
and it went quickly, so I don't know if that would have been better or not.
Interviewer: Just a thought. What do you think Sara?
Sara: I agree with that, mostly because they were getting really stuck on that we could only have this
amount of steps. When I was trying to ask them to step back and look at the big picture and the
whole text, they weren't really getting that either. Particularly in my fifth hour, because we already
had enough steps. Going through, when I think back to the modeling process that I did before with
them, I had the role cards, and I used that to guide which of these strategies am I using.
I almost was to start with commonly used writing strategies and have them identify which ones I am
using, as I am working on this outline. I think we have to go back even further with them to talk
about those writing strategies, because we haven't really ever talked about anything besides
outlining before. Like, in terms of a structured lesson, I think.

The Great Moai Statues Of Easter Island
Similarities and differences are what make things so interesting. Would you be happy if everyone
was the same. Every looked the same, and liked the same things and hated the same things. No you
wouldn't because you would want to be you and no one can tell you what you want to be or what
you don't want to be. Even the buildings you make would be the same from a normal house to a
normal office building. The "Panama Canal" was one of the most useful canals ever built and they
were made to for one reason and that was to transport goods. This was somethings everyone needed
to solve at that time(1900s). The great Moai statues of Easter Island are also great structures and are
really tremendous to the eye. These buildings and canals were made to one purpose they had to do
somethings and that something was to make things easier for the people. Some similarities they had
were that they both took a long time and sacrifice to build. A difference they had was that they were
built for different purposes and they had their own different struggles.
Predominantly, "The Panama Canal" was one of the greatest structures built by mankind. The
"Moai" as well were something to be fascinated by because they were beautiful creations made by
us. The one thing they both have in common was that they both took a long time to build. The Moai
took approximately about 10–15 years to build and that was with the help of mana which was part of
the belief and if that wouldn't of existed it probably

Difference Between Linguistic And Linguistic Studies
In the following essay, I am going to present a comparison between two linguistic studies.
Constructing another Language–Usage Based Linguistics in Second Language Acquisition by
Eskildsen and Sources of Linguistic Knowledge in the second language acquisition of English
articles by Ionin, Zubizarreta, and Maldonado are going to be contrasted regarding their theoretical
frameworks, research questions and research designs together with the conclusions reached.
Reading the two studies, certain conclusions regarding their theoretical framework can be drawn.
The first article provides Usage Based linguistics view of language learning as mainly based on
experience and item, with particular formulas used at the beginning and then resulting to general
constructions (e.g. Dabrowska 2000; Tomasello 2003; Dabroswka and Lieven 2005). On the other
hand, Ionin, Zubbizarreta, and Maldonado, study adopts a theoretical framework that primarily
focuses on the aspects of linguistic knowledge, namely the L2–input, L1 transfer and the inherent
linguistic knowledge (Universal Grammar) that influence the acquisition of English articles by
second language learners.
Each of the studies also examine research questions related to their domains. The first one explores
the relationship between the application of Usage–Based linguistics and issues in second language
acquisition, as well as "how type and token frequencies used by learners can reflect schematicity of
learner language representation"

is horror, but the plot of the story is completely different.
So for the plot they both start out obviously with characters in Hantu the main character is a young

Linguistic Differences In The Piaget's Theory Of Cognitive...
Cultural and Linguistic Differences The third of the Piaget's theory of cognitive development is the
concrete operational stage. Concrete operational stage is age 7 – 12 years of age. It characterized by
the development of logical thoughts. However, abstract thinking is still a struggle. It is important to
understand the cognitive development of children due to social problems and influences. One social
problem that society is challenge with is biases and prejudices from misunderstanding of cultural
difference. If your values, if your attitudes, customs, and traditions are different from someone else,
that leaves a lot of room for misinterpreting behaviors (Iris, 2009). For example, misinterpreting
things like call–and–response, quietness, lack of eye contact, not understanding that when you give
a compliment to a child some of them want to be closer to you in terms of proximity (Iris, 2009). In
addition, addressing the issue is important to due increase social activities of victimization, abuse,
violence, crime, and poverty, which are related to biases and prejudices attitudes and beliefs.
Discuss how educators can positively influence a school–age child to not hold biases or prejudices
against others. Children develop their own values, beliefs, and norms based on the world around
them. Therefore, it is vital that children in the concrete operational stage learn what and how to
address some social issues due to the ability to categorization and classification

Personal Narrative : My Mom And Dad Essay
Researchers have always said that opposites attract. They couldn't have been more right in my
parents' case. My mom and dad have many differences and few similarities, but they get along all
the same. My mom is very timely, organized, quiet, and conservative; whereas, my father is the
complete opposite of all of these traits. One similarity they have is that they both love to be active
and outside. My mother and father go together like icing and cupcakes, but despite their compatible
traits, like being sporty, they have very different personalities and views. Ever since I can remember
my mom has always been in great shape. She loves to be outside and play sports. When I was five
she started a summer volleyball league, and recently she started a winter league as well. She plays
volleyball year round and it keeps her in great shape. My family has always been active, and it was
always nice to have someone play outside with me. My mom is also a fitness junkie and loves to
workout. She always drinks protein smoothies in the morning and runs on the treadmill after work.
As a family we all enjoy to be outside and do yard work, and my mom loves to tend to the garden
and pull weeds. My family has always enjoyed being outside rather than inside. Very similar to my
mom, my dad loves to have fun outdoors too. He is very muscular and likes to workout. My dad is
also on the same volleyball league as my mom, and they enjoy bonding while they get to play. They

In recent years there have been a number of studies regarding how children perceive friendship
(Brownlow, 2012). Children may have different understandings of what friendship means to them
depending on their age or where they live. Two methods used in this field are content analysis and
ethnology. This essay will illustrate the similarities and differences between the two methods
through the work of two groups of researchers. Content analysis was used by Brian Bigelow and
John La Gaipa, and ethnographic research was carried out by William Corsaro. The essay will show
that although the researchers worked in the same area of study with some similarity in their
approach, they produced contrasting data that was therefore analysed ... Show more content on

Prior to commencing their research, Bigelow and La Gaipa and Corsaro needed to decide who the
participants would be. They wanted to know what children's personal views were, so a common
factor for both types of research was that those taking part were all children. Bigelow and La Gaipa
chose a large sample of children aged 6 to 14 years old (Brownlow, 2012). They all resided in the
same city in Canada and came from a similar or identical social group. There were 480 participants
all together chosen from eight schools, with thirty girls and thirty boys from each. The age–range
was a significant factor to them because they wanted to study how children understood friendship at
different ages and stages of their life. Using such a large number of children in their study meant
that they could make generalisations about children's friendships and how they develop over time.
This data could then be applied to children as a whole. Corsaro chose his participants differently.
The children that took part in his studies were about three years old (Brownlow, 2012). In addition,
unlike Bigelow and La Gaipa, Corasro did not limit his research to one city, or even one country. He
wanted to know what friendship meant for children at different times and in different places.
Therefore, Corsaro studied children in different countries including, the United States and Italy
(Interview with William Corsaro, 2010). By

Analysis Of Toni Morrison 's ' Sula ' Essay
Opposite and Similarity Attract in Sula Most of people find themselves attracted to someone very
unlike them, a phenomenon called "opposites attract". People are usually drawn to those whose
personality, characteristics or habits are opposite to them because they are fascinated by the
differences and are curious of exploring what they have never experienced before. Throughout
history, many writers attempt to explore and investigate the cause of this absorbing human trait by
analyzing their characters' psychological development in their books; so does Toni Morrison.
Morrison makes further observations and reflects her ideas of the essence of opposites attract in her
novel Sula, where two girls Nel and Sula who are drawn closer to each other because of their
differences. The friendship between Nel and Sula becomes more complicated because of their
different personalities; however, while they seem to be different and opposite in nature, they are
actually more alike in many ways that consolidates their friendship. Nel and Sula seem to be
different in many ways because of their opposite background; their living environments affect their
growth profoundly by exercising formative influences on their characters. Nel, a girl raised by her
conservative mother Helene, is a product of a strict upbringing. Helene is an orderly and proper
woman who "enjoyed manipulating her daughter and husband" and "[driving] her daughter's
imagination underground" (Morrison 18). Like mother like

Night V. Life Is Beautiful Essay
Night vs. Life is Beautiful When people look at two extremely different stories such as Night and
Life is Beautiful, they would not expect there to be many similarities. However, these two
devastating tales are more alike than suspected. Both Night and Life is Beautiful may be two
accounts of the holocaust, but that does not mean that they bring the same thing to the table. They
both may include a somewhat similar father–son relationship, yet they still aren't that same. Night, a
tragic memoir of Eliezer Wiesel, and Life is Beautiful, a humorous and still somewhat depressing
movie of Guido and his family, have numerous similarities as well as drastic differences between
them. There were numerous differences between the two stories. ... Show more content on

For example, Night and Life is Beautiful are both centered around their similar themes. Their
common theme is that when someone has another person to love and something to hope for, they are
capable of incredible things. In Night, Elie and his father's love and hope depend on each other. As
long as they were both alive, Elie as well as his father had a reason to stay alive and maintain their
hope. But once Elie's father died, the one person Elie could put his love and hope into was gone. In
Life is Beautiful, Guido's family all depend on each other. The father depends on his son and wife;
the son depends on his mother and father; and the mother depends on her son and husband. They
each put a little bit of their hope and love into each other. So, when Guido dies, a little part of his
wife and son dies as well taking a small part of their hope and love with him. Another similarity
between these two fascinating stories is the father–son relationship. As stated in the previous
similarity, they rely on each other. However, these two relationships are different within their
similarity. Between Elie and Chlomo, Elie's father, they had a strong relationship that kept them
going through everything. At one point, Elie even helped his father get the marching pattern right so
Chlomo would not get hurt. Also, Elie gave his bread to his father even when the more logical thing
to do was to keep it for himself since he was obviously the only one who had a chance at life then.

The Beauty Of This Story Being Narrated By Rebecca
Told by Rebecca, one of the 13–year–old twins that has been born and raised in a strict
fundamentalist Christian sect. The story begins with the family moving to the South Island, and then
follows the young girls as they go through the exciting, yet nerve wracking, time of becoming
betrothed. Exciting because the girls wish to fulfil their "godly duties"; nerve wracking because they
know they have no choice in who they will be ordered to marry. The novel is harrowing at times, as
the sect uses selective Bible teachings to maintain control over their followers. They also use "The
Rule", a set of laws developed by leaders, to keep order – though these rules seem mainly concerned
with controlling the minds and bodies of women. However, the beauty of this story being narrated
by Rebecca is that the details of life in the sect are presented in a non–judgmental way. Rebecca is
simply stating the way things are – it is all she knows – so it is not a better or worse way of life, it
just is. The ending is particularly powerful. I could imagine the impact the running away scene
would have if it occurred in real life. I highly recommend this book to everyone – in fact, because
Beale authored the novel as a non–biased account of moral choices Rebecca as well as others had to
make and the intolerance of difference that the Children of the Faith showed. I think it should be
compulsory reading to help develop a society more understanding and empathetic of difference. I

How Children And Animals Are Very Similar? Essay
In many ways children and animals are very similar; but they have different needs. Children for
instance, always need supervision because at a very young age they cannot fend for themselves.
Animals, on the other hand need a different type of care, and it isn 't as intense as a younger child.
Along with the different care, they also need different types of attention. When volunteering we
noticed the differences and similarities between young children and animals, and why it is important
to help where the help is needed. We compared the fact that both the children and animals need
people with free time to give their help, we compared how any type of help can make a difference,
we contrasted the fact that they have different needs, and need help with completely different things,
and how different people enjoy helping out differently. This project also helped us realize that a lot
of us are not using our time wisely at times, and that we should schedule more volunteering
sessions.

Csi vs. Ncis
The main difference of the two TV shows, CSI and NCIS, is that CSI consists murders of the
general public and NCIS consists of only military based murders. Both TV shows are unrealistic
compared to the real world. CSI shows how dangerous the job can be by agents getting killed in a
crime scene, which also shows how it can affects the investigations. NCIS (Naval Criminal
Investigation Service), on the other hand, is a real government agency that only focuses on crimes
that involve the military and the show NCIS is deals with many of the same cases as the real life
agency. In my opinion, the more realistic show between CSI and NCIS would be NCIS. The show
CSI is unrealistic to the real world because the crime scenes are really convenient, ... Show more

and exit paths, effects of the weather, and isolate witnesses and possible suspects. Third, the first one
to the crime scene must observe the scene by walking through. Fourth, the scene must be released to
higher personnel to investigate the crime. Fifth, they must record the scene by taking pictures,
sketching, or taking very detailed notes. Sixth, the evidence found must be marked and must have a
picture taken of it. While watching NCIS, I felt the actors really get into their characters. For
example, Abby, the forensic scientist, is really good at what she does and almost seems as though
she's an actual forensic scientist in real life. While watching CSI, I felt that the actors were just

The Difference between University and School
The Differences between University and School
Almost all the students around me said that university was so great. Do you feel very curious about
it? Do you want to know the reason? If you have not known it very clearly, quickly read the words
followed. Maybe they have already seen the differences between school and university, for example
the ways of studying are extremely different, the arrangement is also becoming very free and there
are many changes in the teachers.
Why do I think that university and school have a lot of differences, the most important point which
make me realize that thing is the way of studying. When you are in school you do not need to
organize anything by yourself. You can just follow your teachers' requirements. However, in
university it is quite different. Chinese teacher allow you to recite you essays and ancient poetries
and ask you to rewrite them the other day. At the same time, accompanied with a great number of
vocabularies which are waiting for you to remember, there are a lot of questions regarding to math,
chemistry and physics. Although they make you feel tired and bored, you should finish your
homework everyday. You keep studying all the time under your teachers' construction. However
when you enter university you can find it surprising that teachers seldom assign homework and
request you to do something. If you don't want to waste your time, you need to be self–monitor and
fix up your time correctly. Besides this point, the

If both knew that they have a different 'time sense' and different idea of punctuality, their business

Finally the authors recall about the relationship between speed and progress. He said " Speed is
frequently confused with progress". He means by this words that people head for to believe that the
fastest country has the most progress, which is not needs true. The research, which the authors did
within six countries (Japan, United States., England, Italy, Taiwan, Indonesia) contrasting accuracy
of bank clocks, post office speed, and walking speed, shows that Japan is making its way in the
fastest speed in all three dimensions. Speed of each country is vary because of their different
understanding of time and punctuality. For example, Japan realize that time is money and you
cannot waste it. Yet, just because some qualities of the country's speed are fast, it doesn't mean that
the country is advanced in every way. Looking at the Japanese situation, it is true that there is a
positive connection between speed and progress in terms of technology, the education system, and
industries. Also, in the essay, the authors conclude that the relationship between speed and progress
will become clear when we completely observe the heartbeat of each culture. People tend to

How Language Shapes Math Skills in Eastern and Western KidsDespite being a country that is wrapped in its own traditional ways and values, India as a country has been taking many steps towards modernizing itself for a better future for its younger and upcoming generations. Despite being a country that is wrapped in its own traditional ways and values, India as a country has been taking many steps towards modernizing itself for a better future for its younger and upcoming generations. One of these steps was the film 3 Idiots, a critically acclaimed film by Rajkumar Hirani. Its story and morals not only expressed the hidden and, in some cases, ineffable opinions of the Indian youth, but challenged the traditional customs and practices of raising children performed by older generations. Similar to Akhil Sharma's Family Life, the film tells the story of three boys and their experiences during their upbringing, focusing primarily on their college life and adulthood. While consisting of different tones and themes, both Family Life and 3 Idiots approach and challenge the views behind the value of education in India, while motivating the youth to express and follow their own beliefs despite peripheral influences. Due to the importance of traditional views in India, many of the families follow a hierarchy, meaning the children in the family hold little power when making decisions regarding themselves. This results in the child's future to be decided by the parents, indifferent of the child's interests or skills. Therefore, indifferent of the child's interests or skills, their future is decided by their parents, futures which lie within the boundaries of either the engineering or medical field due to their popularity and financial results. LT5901 "semester B" Assignment report Student Name: SIA NGAI LING Student ID: 53064482 Tutorial Session: TZ 1 Tutor: Ms. Zhou Nannan Question 1 "Linguistic relativity" and "linguistic determinism" are strong version and weak version of Sapir– Whorf hypothesis respectively. According to XX (), "linguistic relativity" is defined as the variation of cognitive processes among languages due to cultural differences. The individuals see, experience and interpret the world based on the structure of the language they habitually use. Such linguistic categories and usage influence thought and certain kinds of non–linguistic behavior, carve up and name the world differently. Linguistic relativism acknowledges that conceptual paradigms of thought can be changed, extended, broadened and reshaped with respect to the experience the individual has or the exertion the individual makes. On the other hand, "linguistic determinism" is the idea that language and its structures limit and determine human though patterns and knowledge, as well as thought processes such as categorization, memory, and perception, assuming that language both reflects and limits human mentality and its ability to make cross–cultural connections such as bilingualism and translation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is because "linguistic relativity" is a matter of the way to view the world, which differs among cultural variance; but, "linguistic determinism" is a matter of the cognition and perception process, which relatively gives regular nonlinguistic cognitive processes to certain culture, and leads people in the same culture to have same differentiation in most cases. Therefore, "linguistic determinism" sees only the rigidity of the contrasts between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. You Just Dont Understand By Deborah Tannen Every day, at home or at workplaces, people engage in conversations involving the opposite gender. How does gender play a critical role in a conversation? Reasonings behind the existence of "genderlect" are quite complex. Bill Cosby once said "Men and women belong to different species and communication between them is a science still in it infancy (Eisenberg)." Men and women are born with the same brains. However, the way they function differently when having conversations. When men and women communicate, men mostly use the left side of their brains while women are capable of using both sides explaining the excellent in their multi–tasking skills. Surprisingly, biological differences are not responsible for the genderlect, but the social norms and cultural backgrounds. These factors further differentiate conversations between men and women. Deborah Tannen, professor of linguistics at Georgetown University has written extensively on genderlect in her national best selling book, "You Just Don't Understand: Women and Men in Conversation." In her book (Tannen, 1990), she explores in depth about different conversational styles of men and women with relatable examples. She also suggests some steps that could be taken to relieve people's frustrations towards each other's differences. Tannen's focus is mainly on the sociolinguistic side of linguistics and the verbal–communication. According to the book (1990), genderlect can be caused by the difference in the environments people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Domestic And International Asian Students Table 3 shows that no significant difference was observed between the overall scores of adjustment in domestic and international Asian students. This finding is different from previous studies that showed East Asian students to have difficulty understanding the academic content resulting in poor adjustment success (Lee, Farruggia, & Brown, 2013). To test our main hypothesis, JASP was used to generate data through descriptive statistics, ANOVA and further post hoc analyses. Initially, we generated descriptive statistics to show the raw means. Table 4 displays this descriptive data indicating that international students performed better than domestic students on university adjustment (M = 34.60, SD = 2.60) and social interaction (M = 15.20, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To test the second hypothesis, further sampled t–test comparisons were conducted. Table 3 shows a strong significance between the different categories of adjustment, F(2, 81) = 197.09, p < .001, η² = .813; however, the significance was ambiguous. To see where the difference happened, we conducted t test comparisons. When comparing local university adjustment with international university adjustment (t[4] = –1.990, p> .05, d = –.890), local social interaction with international social interaction (t[4] = –0.732, p> .05, d = –.328) and local academic achievement with international academic achievement (t[4] = .793, p> .05, d = –.355)–no significance was found. In addition, the significant values were found when academic achievement was compared with university adjustment in domestic and international students. This was a potential error of key score differences between the categories (Table 2). Table 5 provides the complete list of all the comparisons and displays where the results showed significance. Through this statistical analysis, our second hypothesis failed to be true as well. Interestingly, an interaction was found to be significant for social interaction and academic achievement. Figure 2 provides a visual representation of this result. Discussion The purpose of this study was to find the underlying differences between international and domestic students. We used Asian students specifically for data to see whether they differ from one another depending on their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. My Papa's Waltz The Father–Son Connection One of the most powerful relationships someone ever forms is the connection that they have with their own father. "Those Winter Sundays" by Robert Hayden and "My Papa's Waltz" by Theodore Roethke are both poems that brilliantly describe this powerful relationship between father and son. The feelings that the poets have toward the subject are found deep within the two poems often hidden behind how the character feels toward his own father. Even though these poems were published in different time periods, one feels the similarities and differences within the tone, form, or even the imagery of the poems. "Those Winter Sundays" and "My Papa's Waltz" were written by two different authors so naturally there are some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But when one is to look at the tone in "those Winter Sundays" they may find that it's very regretful. The adult narrator is remembering the admirable qualities of his dead father. The narrator refers to his father 's with "then with cracked hand that ached/in the weekday weather made/banked fires blaze. No one ever thanked him," which demonstrates that the child took the father and his actions for granted, and now, as an adult, the speaker is feeling remorse for it. The narrator copes with the loss of his father and his inability to tell the father that he appreciated the "Sunday ritual" by saying "What did I know, what did I know/of love 's austere and lonely offices." The few similarities of these poems lie in the idea behind the writing. Both Hayden and Roethke seem to have created a poem that is about the bond between father and son. Even more so, the poems both take the form of a memory of the speaker who is looking back to a time that they remember with their own father. The last major difference in these two poems is how the author uses imagery within the work. In "Those Winter Sundays" there is no expression of warmth within human activity. These images reflect the cold of the house, the cold of the father 's hands, "that ached" and the cold in the boy 's heart, "speaking indifferently." On ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Cultural Differences Of Math Performance : Linguistic... Cross Cultural Differences in Math Performance: Linguistic Influence on Development in Eastern and Western Children Christina Jeon 999910967 PSY440H1 Introduction Various surveys and cross cultural studies examining children 's mathematical achievement around the world have shown, fairly consistently, that Asian students continue to perform better than Western students in mathematics (Mark & Dowker, 2015; Paik, Gelderen, Gonzales, Jong, & Hayes, 2011). Studies have also indicated that this distinct gap in performance begins to show even before children have had any kind of formal schooling (Mark & Dowker, 2015). This has only served to further reinforce the stereotype that Asian people are naturally good at math; there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite this line of thinking, which has been suggested for at least one to two hundred years, there is new evidence to indicate that mathematical development in children is more complicated than first thought (Mark & Dowker, 2015; Dowker & Roberts, 2015). It also suggests that language plays a slightly different role in the arithmetic learning than was previously hypothesized (Mark & Dowker, 2015; Dowker & Roberts, 2015; Paik et al., 2011). Linguistic Influence on Mathematics A wide range of cross cultural studies have been done to examine the degree of influence that language has on the development of mathematical skills, with varying results (Mark & Dowker, 2015; Dowker & Roberts, 2015; Paik et al., 2011). Recent cross cultural research has painted a very different picture of the extent that language truly influences the development of mathematical skills in children as they enter school (Mark & Dowker, 2015; Dowker & Roberts, 2015, Paik et al., 2011). LT has been found to have more specific influences on learning mathematics than the broad pervasive effect it was previously thought to have (Mark & Dowker, 2015; Dowker & Roberts, 2015). Studies comparing children of different ethnic backgrounds, have shown that East Asian children tend to outperform American children or children from other Western countries (Mark & Dowker, 2015; Paik et al., 2011). • 13. Similarities Between The Dead Man 's Pocket And The Trip... Similarities and differences are used in stories to often help support the plot. They help to move the story along. In the short stories; The Pedestrian by Ray Bradberry, Contents of the Dead Man's Pocket by Jack Finney, and The Trip by Laila Lalami there are similar settings, themes, conflicts, and characters that the authors use to help develop the plot. The stories may have different concepts and meanings which help bring forth the plot. These similarities and differences are used to help support how the reader feels and how the story is developed. All through the three selections, the setting helps to create the mood and atmosphere. In Contents of the Dead Man's Pocket, the protagonist, Tom, is stuck in a life or death situation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The settings were in completely different places and time zones. They also created different atmospheres at different times. When Tom managed to get into his house, the tense atmosphere was lost, replaced with a relieved one. When Murad was caught, the almost hopeful feel was demolished, replaced for a disappointed feeling. When Leonard was caught as he was walking, the remotely confused and slightly relaxed atmosphere was replaced with a tense, cautious feel. The settings being so similar yet so different helped the authors to create the mood and feelings for the stories. Within the three stories, the characters and their thoughts and actions help to guide the story. In Contents of the Dead Man's Pocket, the main character, Tom, is very stubborn as well as completely obsessed with his work. He spent weeks on a project that was not even assigned to him. He wasted his life doing pointless things. In the story he thinks, "Nothing, then could ever be changed; and nothing more– no least experience or pleasure– could ever be added to his life." This attribute of Tom caused the plot to move and the main events to occur. In The Pedestrian, Leonard, the protagonist, was different. He did not conform to his society. The text says, "...one house in an entire city of houses that were dark, but this particular house had all of its electric lights brightly lit, every window a loud yellow illumination, square ... • 15. Difference Between Language And Linguistics INTRODUCTION Although language and linguistics have differences, they interact with each other via significance, influence and implications shared through language teaching. Linguistics is the scientific study of language which is composed of sound and speech sound, and is concerned with how language is structured, how language is changed, how people use the language and what they must know in order to do so. In the 19th century, the focus of linguistics was more about writing than speaking, however in the 20th century, the focus was initially on the primary sound, and furthermore on the superficial nature of writing. Communicative competence emphasises the context in which utterance transpires, and the skill to accomplish a range of speech acts. Four main components include: 5.1. Possibility – ability to produce grammatical sentences; related to whether something is officially possible or not. An open, knowledgeable and experienced speaker understands the sentence me go sleep now contravenes the grammatical rules, while I am going to sleep now does not (Cook, 2003) 5.2. However, we forget about one of the most influential superheroes of today's time; a soldier. Despite the differences, there are many similarities between Beowulf and a soldier because the two have more in common than we realize. As much as two great humans could have so much in common, Beowulf and a soldier have differences as most people in life do. • 23. The Bystander Effect PART 2 ESSAY This essay will compare and contrast the two approaches to investigating the 'bystander effect'. It will first discuss in some depth as to what exactly is meant by the bystander effect, giving some examples of this and then go on to illustrate when this concept was first shown and why. An outline will then be made showing the different methods in which social scientists have investigated this explaining the different methods used. The essay will then show examples of the differences and similarities used in both methods. Concluding with a summary of findings into the two approaches used in investigating the Bystander Effect. Firstly 'The Bystander Effect' (Latne & Darley, 1970) is described as the finding that an individual is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Byford, J.2014 Pp.227). Fourthly, although separated in time the 'Genovese and Bulger' cases generated a lot of publicity and each saw the conduct of 'bystanders' being scrutinised by the media and was a topical point of conversation by the public, leading to questions on how this could happen thus prompting social scientists in both cases to investigate. Fifthly, another similarity albeit not a good one for having no resolution is that neither method has to date come up with any strategy or strategies that would be able to increase the intervention by bystanders during an emergency situation. Communicative competence is also referred to as linguistic competence according to Yule; and this shows that language is communication and communication is not completed without using the appropriate and understandable language. Therefore, it can be said that the main difference between the Communicative competence and the Linguistic is that the linguistic competence belongs to the whole Communicative Competence or language knowledge that the students or native learners have. • 27. Analysis Of The Poem ' The Oysters ' By Tobias Wolff There are two short stories with different settings. "Oysters," written by Anton Chekhov, takes a place in the nineteenth century Moscow. It begins with a flashback, which the author recalls on the day that he and his father try to beg for alms in order to satisfy their hunger, which happens when he is a child. While his father hesitates to ask people for alms, he sees a word–oysters– on a placard. Since he does not know what oysters look like, he asks his father what oysters are and imagines a delicious fish soup, however, when his father tells what oysters really look like, he starts to feel disgusted. When he is crying for oysters, two gentlemen drag him to the restaurant to let him eat oysters. In the end, he gets to eat oysters, but it does not make him satisfied, in fact, it makes him sick. On the other hand, "Powder," written by Tobias Wolff, takes a place in the modern state of Washington. The author begins with the story by telling that the father and his son go to Mount Baker for skiing. The father has a difficult relationship with his wife that they are about to break up. When he and his son decide to go home, they are unable to do so because the road is closed due to snow. Since the father wants to go home as quick as possible, he tries to call state troopers to move away, which is breaking law. "Oysters" and "Powder" seems to have few relationships with each other because of the different settings. However, they contain some important similarities and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Anthony Burgess' A Clockwork Orange – Linguistic Differences in the Film and Novel A Clockwork Orange, written by Anthony Burgess, is experienced differently as a novel than it is as the movie directed by Stanley Kubrick. The heart of the difference between the two forms is expressed by Bakhtin: "The potential for ['double–voiced discourse' between the author and narrator] is one of the most fundamental privileges of novelistic prose, a privilege available neither to dramatic nor to purely poetic genres" (Bakhtin, 320).1 An entire dimension of the novel's story is lost in the movie when Alex's role is reduced from narrator to commentator. Two different things are happening when Alex says, "you may, O my brothers, have forgotten what these mestos were like, things changing so skorry these days and everybody very quick to forget, newspapers not being read much neither" (Burgess 1). On one level, Alex says these words to comment on the way society is going. He presupposes his audience has a basic familiarity with his world. He reminds his audience what sort of "mestos" the milk–bars were, but does not need to explain what a "mesto" is. On another level, Burgess uses this moment to give the reader some indication of the setting. Through this commentary of Alex's, the reader's subconscious mind is able to pick up on the fact that time has passed for Alex since the events of the story took place. This difference in time between action and narration is resolved with the controversial twenty–first chapter, where Alex looks back at his younger days and the way he spent his time, and feels bored with it. At the same time, the reader detects some trace of an unstable social and political situation around Alex. The audience Alex is addressing with the familiar "O my brothers" is different from the audience which Burgess is addressing–the readers of his novel. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye, and Will Hunting, from Good Will Hunting, have very similar personalities; however, they live in completely different worlds. The Catcher in the Rye is narrated by Holden Caulfield. He is a seventeen year old from New York City, and in the book, he comes to terms with his past. The story is told from a psychiatric institution. The movie Good Will Hunting is about a very intelligent twenty year old, Will Hunting, who is a janitor at a school in south Boston. The major conflict with the both of them is within their own mind. Part of them wants to connect with other people on an adult level, while part of them wants to reject the world. The main difference between them has to do with socio–economics, and how different their childhoods were. A main similarity between the two is that they push things away, because they are afraid of getting attached to anything. Another similarity is that they are both very intelligent young men, but are not necessarily good in school. Even though Holden and Will grew up in almost opposite conditions, they have many similarities when it comes to their personalities. Socio–economics is one of the main differences between Holden Caulfield and Will Hunting. In The Old Man and the Sea the story is about Santiago, an old fisherman who sets out one day and catches the fish of a lifetime. Santiago then spends multiple days fighting the fish in the middle of the ocean. Lawrence, and English writer, and William Stafford, an American writer lived and wrote at different times but their subject matter is often similar. "Piano" written by D. H. Lawrence and "Traveling through the Dark" by William Stafford demonstrate remarkable similarity, each written about experiences that describe emotions, however in very different ways. Although Lawrence and Stafford are both respected poets, their writing styles, and expectations for readers differ significantly. While Lawrence maintains a feeling of nostalgia and remembrances to keep the reader's attention, Stafford's structure includes a bit of darkness and suspense for his readers. These astute writers are similar in many ways, but they have one significant difference. The authors' messages and delivery set them apart. Lawrence and Stafford were kind of rebels in the literary field. One of Lawrence's most famous novels, Lady Chatterly's Lover defied censorship and was banned from America until the late 1950's. "Piano" does not fit into the same mold, it is a sentimental and loving poem. Critics often refer to Stafford as a pacifist and a conscientious objector during the war. "Traveling through the Dark" follows the general style used in his poetry. He often delivers messages that are direct and bold. Both poets were teachers at one point in their lives. Werbel's study "Gender Differences in Managerial Communications: Fact or Folk–Linguistics?" Devin Lowe MGMT 647: Organizational Behavior and Development Article Summary "Gender Differences in Managerial Communication: Fact or Folk–Linguistics" seeks to test the qualitative and stylistic differences that have been purported to exist between genders. The authors question the credibility of previous studies and state numerous times that there is a high likelihood that these earlier studies were subject to the bias of their researchers. The assertion is that many conclusions are opinion based and speculative according to personal experience rather than quantifiable data. Using a sample group of 2nd year MBA students and their writing examples, the authors rated the communication based on 16 dimensions. Final results showed that there are significant differences between distinct managerial communication samples, but not between genders. Traditional thoughts on women's communications show a notably stereotypical demonstration of ineffective communication characteristics. These characteristics include verbosity, constrained vocabulary, and indirect requests (Thorne and Henley, 1975). The authors at this point question the validity of the stereotypes in regard to writing style and quality. They assert that folk–linguistics, or the common beliefs about a ... Video Gaming And Its Impact On Society Over the years, video gaming has become more and more popular and has started to become something integrated in with society instead of being cast out of it. It has breached the generational gap, joining the ranks of sports, movies, and other activities that people of all ages can enjoy. Speaking of sports, gaming has spread its wings there as well, officially being dubbed esports or electronic sports, gathering players from all over the globe and competing for trophies and cash prizes. Two of the most popular esports are League of Legends, League for short, and Smite. However, being similar games, many people claim that there is no difference between them, stating that one ripped of the other and that the other is inferior in some way. However, just like football and rugby, while they may look identical to anyone looking in from the outside, anyone who has participated in both games for a decent time will tell you that they are drastically different in gameplay, game feel, and design aspects. Before we compare the two of these games, we will briefly go over what they are. Both League and Smite are MOBA's or Multiplayer Online Battle Arena. Just like there are certain things that identify a car as a car and not, let's say, a toaster, there are certain aspects that most MOBA games follow. Does letting someone die when you know you had the capability of saving them in turn make you a murderer? All of these are questions that philosophical thinkers have tried to answer for centuries. The Doctrine of Acts and Omissions holds that it is morally worse to commit an act that brings about a bad event than it would be merely to allow the event to take place by not doing anything to prevent its occurrence. In essence, there is an intrinsic moral difference between acting and the failure to act. In some ways, we bear more responsibility for what comes about as a result of our doing something than for what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, and important note is that even though motives are the same, they are extrinsic difference where the Doctrine speaks about intrinsic differences. Thus, active and passive euthanasia are morally equivalent and it is not worse to preform active rather than passive euthanasia. Suppose I want my baby nephew to die and I enter his bathroom with the intent of killing him. In scenario one, I consciously and intentionally hold his head under the water until he drowns to death. In the second scenario I walk in on him accidently slip and hit his head on the bathtub. He then goes unconscious and drowns under water. I watch as this happens, but I don't make the small effort of picking up his head from under the water. These two actions may seem like they aren't as morally taxing but since the intentions were the same from the get go, they are in fact morally equivalent and just as bad. In this case, the act of killing and the allowing the killing to occur are the same. A pragmatic example of this argument that may help convince you on why acting and failing to act are morally equivalent is in the world of dating. If someone is in a relationship with another person and wants to cheat, is the act of pursuing someone and sleeping with them is same as allowing one to seduce you and you stopping the act from occurring? Intelligence Correlations Between Brothers Decrease With Increasing Age Difference Topic Background/Introduction In this article, the researchers is the study how the age difference between brothers affect the correlation between their intelligence–test scores. They describe how there has not been much research on the effect of age difference between siblings (specifically brothers) on intelligence. There have been many other studies that have shown that while both genes and differences in one's environment may create differences between people, familial similarities are caused mostly by shared genes (SSS. Studies using participants that were adopted show that intelligences seems to vary with age. For instance, the correlation between the intelligence–test scores of young children who are not related is much higher than that of the same children during adolescence. Other studies, using twins, suggest that shared environmental effects are present in childhood and early adulthood, but are absent in late adulthood. The researchers mention that studying adopted children, who are usually brought into affluent and well–functioning? Homes, show that they are not representative of the entire population. There are many more factors, when studying adopted siblings, and identical/fraternal twins that can lead to an overestimation or underestimation of the effects of either the shared environment or familial genetics. • 47. Comparing The Reversal Design And Multiple Baseline Theory In comparison to the reversal design mentioned in Chapter 4, the multiple baseline design is useful when testing a treatment that produces irreversible effects, such as teaching a reading technique. Similar to a reversal design, a multiple baseline design starts with a baseline condition, proceeding with a treatment condition. Alternatively, a researcher using a multiple baseline design does not repeat a baseline measurement after the treatment is implemented. This design was originally developed for behavioral psychologists (Compton, 2010), but the application has spread; this design is an informative tool for investigating changes in behavior over time. According to Horner et al. (2005), multiple baseline studies involve giving a treatment at different delays after a baseline measure is made. This is usually done using the baselines of multiple participants in order to prevent any confounding results produced by multiple presentations of the treatment condition, although it is true that some multiple baseline designs measure treatment effects at different delays using a single participant (Cozby, 2009). In a multiple baseline design involving multiple participants, each participant receives the same treatment condition; the time at which treatment is received differs across participants. In the case that a researcher was using a multiple baseline design to measure how the latency at which participants make cued decisions is affected by injections of phencyclidine (PCP), ... For simplicity, they saw the model and it went quickly, so I don't know if that would have been better or not. Interviewer: Just a thought. What do you think Sara? Concrete operational stage is age 7 – 12 years of age. It characterized by the development of logical thoughts. However, abstract thinking is still a struggle. It is important to understand the cognitive development of children due to social problems and influences. One social problem that society is challenge with is biases and prejudices from misunderstanding of cultural difference. If your values, if your attitudes, customs, and traditions are different from someone else, that leaves a lot of room for misinterpreting behaviors (Iris, 2009). For example, misinterpreting things like call–and–response, quietness, lack of eye contact, not understanding that when you give a compliment to a child some of them want to be closer to you in terms of proximity (Iris, 2009). In addition, addressing the issue is important to due increase social activities of victimization, abuse, violence, crime, and poverty, which are related to biases and prejudices attitudes and beliefs. Children may have different understandings of what friendship means to them depending on their age or where they live. Two methods used in this field are content analysis and ethnology. This essay will illustrate the similarities and differences between the two methods through the work of two groups of researchers. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prior to commencing their research, Bigelow and La Gaipa and Corsaro needed to decide who the participants would be. They wanted to know what children's personal views were, so a common factor for both types of research was that those taking part were all children. Bigelow and La Gaipa chose a large sample of children aged 6 to 14 years old (Brownlow, 2012). They all resided in the same city in Canada and came from a similar or identical social group. There were 480 participants all together chosen from eight schools, with thirty girls and thirty boys from each. The age–range was a significant factor to them because they wanted to study how children understood friendship at different ages and stages of their life. Using such a large number of children in their study meant that they could make generalisations about children's friendships and how they develop over time. This data could then be applied to children as a whole. Corsaro chose his participants differently. The children that took part in his studies were about three years old (Brownlow, 2012). In addition, unlike Bigelow and La Gaipa, Corasro did not limit his research to one city, or even one country. He wanted to know what friendship meant for children at different times and in different places. • 63. Analysis Of Toni Morrison 's ' Sula ' Essay Opposite and Similarity Attract in Sula Most of people find themselves attracted to someone very unlike them, a phenomenon called "opposites attract". People are usually drawn to those whose personality, characteristics or habits are opposite to them because they are fascinated by the differences and are curious of exploring what they have never experienced before. Throughout history, many writers attempt to explore and investigate the cause of this absorbing human trait by analyzing their characters' psychological development in their books; so does Toni Morrison. Morrison makes further observations and reflects her ideas of the essence of opposites attract in her novel Sula, where two girls Nel and Sula who are drawn closer to each other because of their differences. The friendship between Nel and Sula becomes more complicated because of their different personalities; however, while they seem to be different and opposite in nature, they are actually more alike in many ways that consolidates their friendship. Nel and Sula seem to be different in many ways because of their opposite background; their living environments affect their growth profoundly by exercising formative influences on their characters. Helene is an orderly and proper woman who "enjoyed manipulating her daughter and husband" and "[driving] her daughter's imagination underground" (Morrison 18). Like mother like ... However, these two devastating tales are more alike than suspected. Both Night and Life is Beautiful may be two accounts of the holocaust, but that does not mean that they bring the same thing to the table. They both may include a somewhat similar father–son relationship, yet they still aren't that same. Night, a tragic memoir of Eliezer Wiesel, and Life is Beautiful, a humorous and still somewhat depressing movie of Guido and his family, have numerous similarities as well as drastic differences between them. There were numerous differences between the two stories. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Night and Life is Beautiful are both centered around their similar themes. Their common theme is that when someone has another person to love and something to hope for, they are capable of incredible things. In Night, Elie and his father's love and hope depend on each other. As long as they were both alive, Elie as well as his father had a reason to stay alive and maintain their hope. But once Elie's father died, the one person Elie could put his love and hope into was gone. In Life is Beautiful, Guido's family all depend on each other. The father depends on his son and wife; the son depends on his mother and father; and the mother depends on her son and husband. They each put a little bit of their hope and love into each other. So, when Guido dies, a little part of his wife and son dies as well taking a small part of their hope and love with him. Another similarity between these two fascinating stories is the father–son relationship. As stated in the previous similarity, they rely on each other. However, these two relationships are different within their similarity. Between Elie and Chlomo, Elie's father, they had a strong relationship that kept them going through everything. At one point, Elie even helped his father get the marching pattern right so Chlomo would not get hurt. Also, Elie gave his bread to his father even when the more logical thing to do was to keep it for himself since he was obviously the only one who had a chance at life then. In this ... • 67. The Beauty Of This Story Being Narrated By Rebecca Told by Rebecca, one of the 13–year–old twins that has been born and raised in a strict fundamentalist Christian sect. The story begins with the family moving to the South Island, and then follows the young girls as they go through the exciting, yet nerve wracking, time of becoming betrothed. Exciting because the girls wish to fulfil their "godly duties"; nerve wracking because they know they have no choice in who they will be ordered to marry. The novel is harrowing at times, as the sect uses selective Bible teachings to maintain control over their followers. They also use "The Rule", a set of laws developed by leaders, to keep order – though these rules seem mainly concerned with controlling the minds and bodies of women. However, the beauty of this story being narrated by Rebecca is that the details of life in the sect are presented in a non–judgmental way. Rebecca is simply stating the way things are – it is all she knows – so it is not a better or worse way of life, it just is. The ending is particularly powerful. I could imagine the impact the running away scene would have if it occurred in real life. I highly recommend this book to everyone – in fact, because Beale authored the novel as a non–biased account of moral choices Rebecca as well as others had to make and the intolerance of difference that the Children of the Faith showed. I think it should be compulsory reading to help develop a society more understanding and empathetic of difference. I feel more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. Relationship Between Patient Implementation And Cost... Two studies, one seeks to conclude whether size and proprietorship make a dissimilarity in the effectiveness and cost results of hospitals, the second study takes a look at the relationship between patient fulfilment and inpatient admittances in critical hospitals. The second study also seeks to know the relationship between patient fulfilment and inpatient charges and how they differ amongst teaching and nonteaching hospitals. When one compares the two, there are some differences and similarities in the tools, but both mark that finances make a difference in patient satisfaction, and in both size and ownership. Because both studies conclude that finances make a difference let's see how the studies arrive to this conclusion. Both Coyne and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This study is built on the limited amount of literature on patient satisfaction and volume of admissions (Messina et al., 2009). Coyne et al. and Messina et al. independent variable types is categorical. Messina et al. dependent variable is that of patient satisfaction which its measurements are through volume of admission, while Coyne et al, is size and ownership structure, with the dependent variable being cost and efficiency running continuous. The performing tools in the Coyne et al. study are the Two–way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), on the other hand Messina et al. a descriptive analysis in the form of frequencies, means, medians, and standard deviations as well as skewness and kurtosis (p.182). The sample size of Messina et al is 96, while Coyne et al. is 95. Interestingly enough, Messina et al chose hospitals in their state, with the exception of investor owned hospitals, while Coyne et al. hospitals are not–for–profit and government–owned. Now, that we know a little about the studies in both Messina et al. and Coyne et al, let's check for validity and reliability. Validity of Both Studies Reliability and validity is essential in research of this sort. Looking at Messina et al. validity is kept throughout the study. How can one say this, well the questionnaire that the study uses is modified ever so often to maintain integrity and validity. Then to go further in assuring the validity remains and not deteriorate the questionnaire is put through yet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. How Children And Animals Are Very Similar? Essay In many ways children and animals are very similar; but they have different needs. Children for instance, always need supervision because at a very young age they cannot fend for themselves. Animals, on the other hand need a different type of care, and it isn 't as intense as a younger child. Along with the different care, they also need different types of attention. When volunteering we noticed the differences and similarities between young children and animals, and why it is important to help where the help is needed. We compared the fact that both the children and animals need people with free time to give their help, we compared how any type of help can make a difference, we contrasted the fact that they have different needs, and need help with completely different things, and how different people enjoy helping out differently. This project also helped us realize that a lot of us are not using our time wisely at times, and that we should schedule more volunteering sessions. Santiago On Monday, November 7th I volunteered at Lakeshore Park with The Dalton Correcaminos. It's a soccer school that helps the underprivileged kids of Dalton, Georgia. They help the kids with anything they need and it's all voluntary work; no one gets paid to help the kids have a better day to day life. This experience for me was great because I never had this growing up in New York City, with help like this maybe I could have made better decisions throughout the years. Animals on the other ... • 73. Csi vs. Ncis The main difference of the two TV shows, CSI and NCIS, is that CSI consists murders of the general public and NCIS consists of only military based murders. Both TV shows are unrealistic compared to the real world. CSI shows how dangerous the job can be by agents getting killed in a crime scene, which also shows how it can affects the investigations. NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigation Service), on the other hand, is a real government agency that only focuses on crimes that involve the military and the show NCIS is deals with many of the same cases as the real life agency. In my opinion, the more realistic show between CSI and NCIS would be NCIS. The show CSI is unrealistic to the real world because the crime scenes are really convenient, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At a crime scene, you must first, identify and secure the scene and also check the life of any victims found at the scene. Second, preserve the evidence by taping the perimeter of the scene and using guards to restrict the scene to authorized personnel only and also they must establish the entrance and exit paths, effects of the weather, and isolate witnesses and possible suspects. Third, the first one to the crime scene must observe the scene by walking through. Fourth, the scene must be released to higher personnel to investigate the crime. Fifth, they must record the scene by taking pictures, sketching, or taking very detailed notes. Sixth, the evidence found must be marked and must have a picture taken of it. While watching NCIS, I felt the actors really get into their characters. For example, Abby, the forensic scientist, is really good at what she does and almost seems as though she's an actual forensic scientist in real life. While watching CSI, I felt that the actors were just acting and it made it hard to compare it to real life, other than the fact that it does show some dangers that come with becoming a CSI ... • 75. The Difference between University and School The Differences between University and School Almost all the students around me said that university was so great. Do you feel very curious about it? Do you want to know the reason? If you have not known it very clearly, quickly read the words followed. Maybe they have already seen the differences between school and university, for example the ways of studying are extremely different, the arrangement is also becoming very free and there are many changes in the teachers. Why do I think that university and school have a lot of differences, the most important point which make me realize that thing is the way of studying. When you are in school you do not need to organize anything by yourself. You can just follow your teachers' requirements. However, in university it is quite different. Chinese teacher allow you to recite you essays and ancient poetries and ask you to rewrite them the other day. At the same time, accompanied with a great number of vocabularies which are waiting for you to remember, there are a lot of questions regarding to math, chemistry and physics. Although they make you feel tired and bored, you should finish your homework everyday. You keep studying all the time under your teachers' construction. However when you enter university you can find it surprising that teachers seldom assign homework and request you to do something. If you don't want to waste your time, you need to be self–monitor and fix up your time correctly. Besides this point, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If both knew that they have a different 'time sense' and different idea of punctuality, their business would work fine without causing each other contradictions. Finally the authors recall about the relationship between speed and progress. He said " Speed is frequently confused with progress". He means by this words that people head for to believe that the fastest country has the most progress, which is not needs true. The research, which the authors did within six countries (Japan, United States., England, Italy, Taiwan, Indonesia) contrasting accuracy of bank clocks, post office speed, and walking speed, shows that Japan is making its way in the fastest speed in all three dimensions. Speed of each country is vary because of their different understanding of time and punctuality. For example, Japan realize that time is money and you cannot waste it. Yet, just because some qualities of the country's speed are fast, it doesn't mean that the country is advanced in every way. Looking at the Japanese situation, it is true that there is a positive connection between speed and progress in terms of technology, the education system, and industries. Also, in the essay, the authors conclude that the relationship between speed and progress will become clear when we completely observe the heartbeat of each culture.
