A Comparison of Poetry In this essay two poems will be juxtaposed. One of the poems is called
"My parents kept me from children who were rough". This poem was written by Stephen Spender.
Stephen Spender was greatly admired for his work and was knighted in 1983. He lived in the
20th century and died 22 years after W H Auden in 1995 .The second poem chosen is called
"Funeral Blues and was written by W H Auden. W H Auden was a greatly respected homosexual
poet who lived in the 20th century. He was born in 1907 and died in 1973. W H Auden's full name
was Wystan Hugh Auden. He wrote Funeral Blues in 1936. In the poem "My parents kept me from

The rhythm in "Funeral Blues" is a very slow one which emphasises the sadness of the poet
whereas in the poem "My parents kept me from children who were rough" there is a medium pace
rhythm which accelerates gradually during the poem and then slows down at the end to a slow
pace. Both "My parents kept me from children who were rough" and "Funeral Blues" have four
lines in every verse but the amount of verses in each poem differ since the poem "My parents
kept me from children who were rough" has only three verses whereas "Funeral Blues has four. In
the poem "My parents kept me from children who were rough" all three of the verses are set in the
past tense whereas in "Funeral Blues" three of the verses are talking about the present and only
one is talking about the past. The verse, which is referring to something in the past, is the one that
talks about the man who died. In the poem "My parents kept me from children who were rough"
lines similar to "I feared more than tigers their muscles like iron" conjures up an image in one's
head of large and very muscular boys. An example of the boys abuse and images, which is stated in
the poem, is " And who threw world like stones and who wore torn clothes". This line shows us that
the boys would use bad language and would dress very badly. The imagery in "Funeral Blues" is one
of a heart broken man who is very sad and depressed

Myths â as they are known to most of the world â give insight into the pasts of various countries and
religions as the people saw them. They have been used to explain phenomenons in nature or describe
the tales of courageous and important men and women throughout history. Creation myths in
particular define how the Earth itself was created, along with the universe, heavens, hell, people, and
creatures that exist today. Genesis of Christian mythology, for instance, tells the story of how the
single deity God spoke and formed everything from day and night to man and woman. Various

Professors correlate Buddhism and Christianity, Hinduism and Islam, Confucianism and Hinduism,
and Greek and Roman myth, since all of those pairs seem to follow similar patterns or derive their

Cultural Comparison Paper There are many cultural differences between the United States and
France. Some of these are simply social and others are cultural. Hofstede's Value Dimensions can be
used to highlight the differences between the cultures. Individualism vs collectivism, uncertainty

The cultures prefer as few rules as possible. Typically, people in these cultures don't easily express
their emotions. Hofstede uses the words masculinity and femininity to refer to the degree to which
masculine or feminine traits are valued or revealed (Samovar, Porter and McDaniel). The United
States rates as a moderately masculine. Countries that favor masculinity stress equity, competition,
and performance(Yates). They also strive for material success and expected to respect whatever is
big, strong, and fast. France values femininity and stress equality, solidarity, and quality of work life
(Yates). A feminine worldview maintains that men can assume nurturing roles while promoting
sexual equality. One major difference in masculine/feminine cultures is the role of the woman in the
workplace and at home. Feminine societies expect women to work and often provide the necessary
social support systems. Although the United States is more masculine than France both countries

4. Comparing Two Paragraphs
Paragraph 1: If I would have to trace the moral growth of one of the character in the video, I
would pick the little boy. Because the little boy was mad at the guy who always tell him the story.
As he was telling the story about "x", also knows as a humanoid robot. So, the little boy stop getting
him wrong and start to like him. The way he was hugging him is like, the little boy was out of all the
misunderstood that he had. To me, I would say the story about the robot influenced his moral growth.
Paragraph 2: As I understand that since the "x" was a robot and had no choice on living his life.
Actually, it was not even his life in the real world. He was just a robot which runs with all the
programming inside him. When I was watching the clips, I felt like the little boy knows what he
was going to tell him the story about. And the story teller was the same person as the robot. I
remember the picture of his wife and son who looks like the little boy and his mother on the picture.
I' am guessing that the little boy wanted to know the truth of the story from that man.
