Our Town Play Review Essay
In this critique I will be analyzing the different aspects that go into producing a play such as,
lighting, set, costumes, space, props, actors, etc., and how each served its own significance in the
production of "Our Town". Specifically, I want to focus your attention to the theme, set, costumes,
and lighting of the play. Additionally, I further elaborate on the play, by including a brief summation
of my opinion on the play and the effects that it had on me, at the conclusion. The briefness of life.
Several themes are suitable for "Our Town", but I believe that this one in particular is very
prominent considering "Our Town" spans the course of numerous years and different times of day in
a shortened amount of time. For example, Act I introduced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Wardrobe was not the same one hundred years ago and it won't be the same one hundred years from
now. "Our Town" mainly takes place during the early twentieth century, a time when wardrobe
looked much different from what it resembles now. The play does a great job of mimicking the
wardrobe of the time and that alone allowed me to determine the time the story was taking place.
Different characters also had different attires which allowed me to accurately interpret the role of
each character. The doctor was dressed more professionally, the milkman was dressed comparable to
a farmer, and housewives were also dressed according to their lifestyle which consisted of cleaning,
and cooking. During certain events of the play such as, weddings, and funerals, every character was
dressed more accordingly to meet the attire standards of the occasion. The wardrobe extremely
helped me understand the story because it allowed me to understand the current situation of the
story, whether it was a wedding, funeral, or just a trip to school. It also helped me differentiate the
children from the adults, and the prominent from the not so

Into The Woods Response Essay
Upon walking 'into' Into The Woods one would say the mood was set well. The red curtain in front
of the proscenium stage, the orchestra tuning their instruments, and a peculiar man standing on the
side of the stage. I was prepared for the show, a water bottle and plenty of cough drops to get me
through the 2 and ½ hours. What I was not prepared to see was the obvious struggles they were
having that day with their own cues.
Having worked in show business since I was young, I know opening night is always the night when
things go horribly wrong. I can have sympathy for them but a few of the things that were missed
were outright ridiculous. When the baker was counting out the beans to Jack and they missed the
fourth 'chime' noise, I was surprised. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The actors and actresses did well in their assigned rolls and I wish I could congratulate them on
finishing the run. They worked together very well in all of the group musical numbers regardless of
how hard they can be to coordinate at times. If I had to rate this performance of the musical it would
get a 9/10. The acting, singing, costumes and costume changes, scenery and of course, the plot, are
all wonderful and this is a must see. The only thing lacking was the cues and lighting, the use of the
gobos was lacking and there was not as much color change as I would have enjoyed

Constellations Critical Analysis
Friday, July 14, 2017, I had the pleasure to go see one of Nick Payne's play, Constellations,
performed beautifully at the Gil Cates Theater at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles. At first
glance, this theatre looked like an art house and it was built in the 1920s, but walking into the
performance space I was transformed into the world with a group stars called Constellations.
Constellations is a romantic comedy play. My initial opinion about the play was that it was full of
thoughtful details. The style of the play felt realistic and as an audience member, I believe that any
of them could happen in their situations. I had to analyze the subtext of the tiny details that separates
one character from another. After the play was over, I left the theater thinking about the what ifs and
the different possibilities. I wished that there was more to the play. At the start of the play, the first
few scenes stuck out to me because each scene in the play was told through different distinct
viewpoints. At first, I was confused and it took me a minute or two to understand what was going
on. During that moment when I was confused, those few scenes stuck out to me because I was
amazed that Marianne and Roland was able to change character minute to minute. For example, they
met at a barbecue or they didn't meet at all. In another scene, they are attracted to each other, or one
of them isn't interested while the other one is. Or they both loved each other. This stuck out to me
because

The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow
On October 12th, 2017, the Averitt Center produced "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" at the Black
Box Theatre in Statesboro, GA. "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" is based on the story by
Washington Irving and was dramatized by Kathryn Schultz Miller. "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow"
was directed by Bathany DeZelle. Main actors were Zac Davis, Edward Preble, Grace Jarrell, John
Parcels, Edy Kaleta, Aubrey Roberts, Sofia Costantini, Kenzie Cannady, Kian DeVine, and Ernesto
Moina. Other actors included were Xavier Deckard, Aidan Sowell, Jack Blackmon, Alex Shroyer,
Mackenzie McGrath, Cecilia Marsh, and John Marsh. The basic theme of the story was not to be so

The actor performs Icabod as a strange man who has a special way with women and is determined to
do anything for love. You really cannot dislike the character Icabod, he is a very likeable character
and almost anyone can identify with him in one way or another. The actor for Icabod was very
smooth, and he did not look like he was acting, his line delivery was on–point, clear, and able to be
heard and his movements were natural and believable. The director managed to help the actors
perform convincingly. All of the performers worked exceptionally well as an ensemble and it
appeared as the actors were friends with each other. Though there was no use of microphones, you
could easily see and hear what was going on and the actors projected their voices correctly. Both the
entrances and exits were smooth and the scene changes were made in a smooth manner as well. The
stage space was well used, though it might have been used a little too much at times with too many
props for the space they had to work with. The set design was beautiful and colorful. The actors
were able to use all of the space provided and there was not one space not used. The set design was
not too distracting to the play and you were able to focus on the actors. The set design contributed to
the mood of the play with its bright, spunky colors and the rolling–trees used made the set menacing
when it needed to be. The set is symbolic with "Sleepy Hollow

Set When you are planning to build a set there are steps that need to be apart of the process when
wanting to create a beautiful and functional set. The first step is to have the set designer create the
design, it should convey the director's vision of the production. The design should include the
scenery, the different locations and how the actors will move to the different locations on stage and
making sure that they have enough acting space. The next step is set the style and tone that works

This move is credited to Joseph Schreyvogel, the director of Vienna's Burgtheater. American
producer, director, and playwright David Belasco is remembered today for his passion towards a
naturalistic detail. In 1909, for a production of The Easiest Way, his set designer used inspiration
from a boarding house room. He included the wallpaper, and other aspects of the room. As a
successful playwright he provided the perfect dramatic source material for two of Puccini's most
popular operas. As early as 1804, the set designs started to evolve into something much bigger. Now
they include wings with door and window flats making the set look realistic. "In 1832, a critic wrote
'the stage's more perfect enclosure fits the appearance of a private chamber infinitely better than the
old contrivance of wings.' When Mme" (Macgowan and Melnitz). When Vestris put on Dion
Boucicault's London Assurance, the critics payed the most attention to the realistic looking set. This
set had very heavy modeling and couldn't be moved. The set consisted of real doors with doorknobs
and furniture. Towards the end of the 19th century, two set designers, Adolphe Appia and Edward
Gordon Craig, rose against the practices of traditional European acting. They wanted to go with a
flat floor for the actors to stand on with the flats and painted canvas surrounding them to give a
more realistic setting. Their different consepts and ideas towards the new art form of set design,
soon became the new idea of the now most common form of

Essay On Being A Stage Manager
Next on my list was a regional stage manager, Ruth Kramer. Ruth is based out of New York,
however her last job was in Pittsburgh. As of right now Ruth is "between adventures" as she so
cheerfully put it. However, the last show she worked on was Equus. Equus was a big show, and the
hardest part was keeping the actors' safe. The men played horses, so they had horse masks and
hooves which made it difficult to see and walk around on stage. As for Ruth, the hardest part was
learning the text and material, because this show was about psychology so she had to research to
fully understand the production. Besides that, she said that everything else went well during the
show. However, her director decided to leave for a week instead of the 2 days ... Show more content

The longest she has been without work will be 4 months, which would be from this November to
February 2018. Although she is on the board for Actors Equity Association and is a part of 10
committees she does not need a retail job while she is between jobs. She thinks if you cannot go a
few weeks or even months with our having a job than this is not a business you should be in. Ruth's
advice simply boiled down to you have to absolutely love it if you want to do it. She said this, "there
is influx of stage managers and an outflow of jobs". If you find out when you start you are not good,
do not do this as your job. And lastly if you choose to do this you have to be able to want to stage
manage anything. After talking to Ruth, it was put into perspective that I cannot have any doubts
about being a stage manager. My last interview was with a Halloween Horror Nights stage manager,
Madalyn Musser. Madalyn was an assistant stage manager on the Bill and Ted Show at Halloween
Horror Nights this past season. She also oversees certain sections of entertainment for holiday
events at Universal. She said the hardest part of working at Universal as a whole is the politics. The
environment is very competitive, you always have to do your best to be put on another event. The
easiest part is making great connections, because the more shows you work the more people will
recognize you. Madalyn, along with every other stage

Our Town Play
niversity of Houston's Production of Our Town was a beautiful rendition of the revolutionary play
by Thorton Wilder. There are many choices a production team has to make when creating a
production such as the set, the lighting, and sound. The choices made can help the audience in
understanding the play's story, characters, and theme, but they can also hinder the audience if done
poorly. The choice made by this production team were truly amazing I loved the entire play and the
details such as the lighting and sound is what made it so special.
The play was original written by Wilder with very little set. In the beginning the stage manager

people do in real life, they go to school, they eat breakfast, they fall in love, they get married. Then
in the final act of the play the "you never know when it will come to an end" part comes into play. In
the final act Mrs. Gibbs and Emily are both dead, when Emily looks back on memories they are no
longer the same as they were while she was alive, they create sorrow for her. This scene emphasizes
the theme's idea that you should always enjoy the simple things while you still have them, because
once the moment is gone it is gone forever. I completely agree with the play's message. There is
nothing more important in life than the connections you make with other people and the love you
can spread. Those are the most precious moments in life that you should hold on to forever. After
you pass the objects that you possessed won't be important any more, no one is going to care about
how many cars you had, or how big your house was, or how many shoes you had. What people will
remember about you is the way you made them feel whether that feeling is good or bad is
determined on your actions in life so you should always treat each moment as special. In terms of

Stage Manager Research Paper
The hard–ships of a Stage Manager
When it comes to theatre there is more than just what the audience sees on the stage. In the back
ground, there is a whole team involved with the production process of a show. The main player in
the production process is a stage manager. A stage manager is a person who provides support to the
director, actors, designers, stage crew, and all who else may work throughout the production. A
major problem in the theatre program at Wake Tech Community College is that there are not enough
study courses centered around the technical theatre field. Stage managers are the back bone of
theatre. At Wake Tech, the theatre program does not provide the right courses that will teach
individual's to properly manage a stage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the article Training Options for Stage Managers, one of the authors Doris Helton et al, states that
a "The relatively small number of stage management courses per program does not necessarily
indicate a lack of academic training opportunities. Several respondents said that stage managers
often refer to themselves as "theatre generalists" who want to be a part of all aspects of theatre"
(Helton). This means that most stage managers prefer to learn all the aspects of theatre to become
more educated in the process. But to learn all aspects of theatre, all aspects of theatre must be
taught. It takes time and knowledge to know which classes are needed or required. In the article
Stage managers juggle many jobs, by Katie Serrano states that sophomore Malloy Heins, a makeup
artist and majoring in stage management, stated that "A stage manager connects all of the
departments, the lights, design, audio and costumes, to the cast and director, and make sure
everyone is on the same page and schedule" (Heins). This means that they must learn all the aspects
of theatre, such as lighting design, sound design, costume design, acting, how to read a scrip, how to

Lysistrata
A play about making war – and not making love...
The Talbot Theatre production of Lysistrata both entertained and delighted this member of the
audience, who was there partly because of an English assignment requirement, but mainly because
of the opportunity to enjoy a live theatre production. The theatre company employed many different
components to bring this antiwar play to life that evening on the stage.
These components can be broken into three categories, which visually enhanced the text of the play.
The first of these categories is the setting, the stage lighting, and the props. The second component
is the symbolism of some of those props, and the third component is the character portrayals by the
actors on the stage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most strikingly visual use of stage props is the appearance of larger than life erect phalluses
under the tunics of all the male main characters during the second half of the play.
These seemingly grotesque male members serve to symbolize the frustration of the men. However,
they are also a symbol of how the men's political power has been superceded by the primitive urge
for sex, and how the women now hold power over the men. The statue, which is on the platform, is
dressed in armor and symbolizes the war. The shield is taken by the women to be used for the
purpose of swearing their oath, but they quickly realize that they cannot swear for peace on a shield
used for war. This warrior statue disappears at the end of the play, reappearing as a female, the statue
of PEACE, considerably shapelier and more enticing to the men.
The characters presented the most impressive visual component. Lysistrata was portrayed perfectly
as a down–to–earth woman who has had enough of war and is willing to lead a revolution to end it.
Most of the rest of the women are portrayed as being frothy little things, more interested in clothing,
shopping and sex, interests which Lysistrata feels that she can employ to bring about the change in
the men's attitudes. The costumes on the main characters evoked the image of the time, and helped
to define the characters. Both the members of the female chorus and the male chorus are dressed in
white, to keep them separate in our minds from the main

My Ticket At The Wortham Theater
On Sunday noon around 2 pm, I was standing in line with my ticket at the Wortham Theatre exciting

reality that all across the lobby they had the paper amusement of object comparable to the costumes
we were around to notice. I was able to purchase my ticket earlier, and even though I was not so
much excited to sit there for about 2 hours and 30 minutes, I was shortly realized that the time went

and is a tale about a love between a two young children, where each moment of life should be
treated like a valuable and treasured and memories are just emotions of life. During this analysis, I

and finally the early death of the married young girl. This play composed of three acts. The first act
is about the town's daily life. The stage manager introduces the people living in the Grover's corners

The Lost Ark : Film Review
Lost Ark is an iconic adventure film of the 1980s. Written by, a man whom at the time was
extremely popular for making the cult classic film, Star Wars. That man was George Lucas. The
Lost Ark was an immediate success for the obvious reasons of, a great original story line and the
ridiculously amazing amount of action, but most unknowledgable movie–goers missed some film
and technical techniques that make the Lost Ark a cinematic beauty. The Lost Ark was uniformly
praised for their special effects, music, screenplay, and the more technical aspects of
cinematography, camera position and lighting. These film elements make Raiders of the Lost Ark
into a movie that will be passed down for generations.
Camera angles are truly important to any film. They can emanate a mood or a characteristic of a
character without said character saying a word. In the beginning scene of the Lost Ark, the camera
focuses directly on the backs of the tomb raiders only then seeing the face of an unsavory character
pulling out his gun on the leading man, Indiana Jones. Indiana, fast as lightning uses his whip to
slash the gun away from the distasteful gunman. The camera immediately pans up to a close up to
Indiana's face, strong and determined. That is the first view of the movie's hero, it leaves a lasting
impression on the characters in the movie and the audience. A commonly used film technique is
selective focusing. In movies selective focusing is used to direct the attention of a

There were several grayish–blackish walls that were lined with jagged edges. These walls were

The whole stage in front of me looked like a group of savages decided to wreak havoc all over the
scene. It the stage reminded me of what an area would look like after a riot As I sat down, the music
before the play started was upbeat Spanish music that made me feel like I wanted to dance. It set the
mood that this must involve someone that is Spanish or is set in a Spanish area. The lighting during
this point was not too bright but not too dark either, the lighting was just enough for the audience to
see the stage. As the last bits of people started settling in their seats, two young women, both dressed
professionally, walked towards the center of the stage and stated that we must turn off our cell
phones and refrain from extending our arms near the stage during the play. Apparently, the reason
for this warning was because there are parts of the play where people walk up and down the
extended pieces of the stage. This caused my mouth to go slack, this meant that the audience is able
to be near the actors and are able to get a closer look at the scene that is playing at the time. The

Elizabethan Era Cinema
What were theatres like?
The beginning of theatres was very similar to how they are today. For example, they still had a large
audience watching performing actors who have scripted and learnt a set play. They also had teared
seating as well.
The beginning of theatres was in 500 B.C. and back then going to the theatre was a big event. All of
the women use to get their slaves to do their hair especially nice and choose out the best dress they
owned.
One of the reasons this event was so big was because it was occasional– unlike today when we can
book a theatre production all year around, back in 500 B.C you had to wait because the Theatre
group only visited a few days every year.
Another difference was that to go and watch this theatre group ... Show more content on

During the summer of 1851, there was a count of theatres, and there were 19 theatres in London.
Stage managers were introduced. Their jobs were the equivalent of modern–day directors and
producers. Because of stage manager, a lot of backstage confusion was stopped and chaos was
reduced.
Who were the audiences?
The theatres were not restricted to certain classes of society. This is because they had improved the
transportation system so the streets were far safer to travel along (especially at night). This meant
that plays could run longer into the night without people having to worry about how they were going
to get home safe. Therefore, theatres produced more money and consequently produced better plays.
Which plays were performed?
The main type of play was 'comedy'. This was a combination of high and low comedy. Plots based
on coincidence and/or mistaken identities The characters usually puppets of fate. They were usually
unable to get married because they were too poor or too rich. They would also suffer a loss of
identity due to an accident. Another popular plot was where twins were separated and then they are
unaware as to their double.

Mise En-Scene Analysis
Shakespeare was a master at creating worlds through words that were performed on stage. Musical
theatre has been an entertainer for years. This leaves no question as to why Lurhmann pays tribute to
such a master and a great gene.
In sequence 14 in Romeo and Juliet, entitled Romeo Sneaks Back In, Lurhmann takes a new angle
to the famous balcony scene. There is a long shot of the Capulets' balcony by the pool and Romeo in
the middle ground. The lighting is dark as it suggests secrecy. Romeo triggers the motion lights and
the setting is instantly brightened.
Cut to a high angle, medium close up of Romeo climbing the vines. There are cuts between Romeo
and the door on the balcony. Instead of the traditional Shakespeare portrayal, Baz Lurhmann has the

Lurhmann acknowledges that Shakespeare's genius took place on the stage.
Sequence 9 in Moulin Rouge, known as Your Song, a Broadway production is created in the setting
through the use of mise–en–scene. A long shot where Satine and Christian are dancing on rooftops
and fog has engulfed the stage. In the middle ground of the shot there is a replica of the Eiffel Tower
and in the background are the city lights of Paris and a singing moon. Due to the mise–en–scene the
set up looks a lot like a stage set up.
Another long shot shows Christian dancing in the clouds as he makes his way to the Eiffel Tower
and he climbs up the Eiffel Tower, this shows us that the Eiffel tower replica is used as a stage prop
that Christian dances on.
This stage like setting with in the film pays a tribute to musical theatre. If one thinks if musical

Peter and the Starcatcher had many different scenes that came with different moods and
backgrounds that helped influence the scenes in the play and fit in with what was happening in those

would seem that there was a technical difficulty with a change in the lighting in one of the scenes

A Musical Presentation Of The Carroll Theatre Department
Being in a musical is exciting, thrilling, nerve–racking, exhausting and magical. Every year Carroll
Senior High School puts on a huge musical in the fall. We rehearse countless hours every day for
months; spending hours memorizing lines, learning choreography and harmonies. Every day I would
come home from rehearsal exhausted but excited to learn more. I counted down the days until we
would open and when my friends and family could see it after all the hard work we put in. From the
moment the cast list comes out to the moment the curtain opens we all have one goal: to put on an
amazing show to entertain our community. The Carroll Theatre department puts on a fall musical
every year through hard work and dedication to tell a story, entertain, and inspire the community. A
musical is a theatrical play that tells a story with singing, dancing and speaking. Every year my
school's theatre department puts on a different musical on a weekend in either October or November.
It is the biggest and most exciting production Carroll Theatre puts on. We audition, get cast, and
rehearse for months. We open on a Thursday night, then have a show Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
night and we have a matinee on Saturday and Sunday. The show is about two hours; it has two acts
with a quick intermission in between. It is an exciting event that our community looks forward to
every year. It takes many steps and a great deal of hard work to put on a musical. First, the directors

Theme Of Death In Our Town
Life and death belong together and cannot be separated. Life is inevitably followed by death, the
"permanent cessation of all the vital functions of an organism" (Dictionary.com) which can be
caused by accidents, radiation or the accumulation of damage to cells over the course of a lifetime.
Since the beginning of time people have been fascinated by this unavoidable phenomenon. Different
cultures deal with death differently. However, death has been a central topic in art, poetry, literature,
theatre and everywhere else. Death is often used to present und emphasize the beauty of life.
Thornton Wilder's play "Our Town" depicts death and the circle of life not just via dialogue but also
metaphorically and via structure.

same time. Emily tragically dies during childbirth yet her child survives. Thornton emphasizes the
fact that "out of life comes death and from death comes life" (Ballet: 242). He also briefly points out
the pointlessness of war. "Over there are some Civil War veterans. Iron flags on their graves [...] All
they knew was the name, friends – the United States of America [...] And they wend and died about
it" (Wilder: 87). The transience of life is depicted in the Stage Manager's statements e.g. about
Babylon "Babylon one had two million people in it, and all we know about ´em is the names of the
kings and some copies of wheat contracts... [...] and the people a thousand years from now'll know a
few simple facts about us" (Wilder: 33). He also points out how rapidly a lifetime goes by "You
know how it is: you're twenty–one or twenty–two and you make some decisions: then wisssh! you're
seventy: you've been a lawyer for fifty years, and that white–haired lady at your side has eaten over
fifty thousand means with you" (Wilder:

Analysis Of Legally Blonde The Musical
Humorous, energetic, enjoyable and all–around fun, Legally Blonde: The Musical captured my
attention from the get–go. This comical yet heartwarming musical portrays the story of a young
woman following an ex–love to Harvard Law School only to realize the potential she possessed
within herself and in the new life she creates for her own. After viewing this hit Broadway
production, I am fascinated with how this theatre play was brought to life on stage with the lighting,
sound, spacing and overall entertainment from the cast to the costumes. Altogether, this play is one
of my all–time favorite productions and it is one that keeps my attention from the moment it takes
off to the closing of the curtain at the end.
Legally Blonde: The Musical starts off by capturing the audience's attention and winning their hearts
with the characters and the acting that takes place in this performance. The main character, Elle
Woods, played by Laura Bell Bundy in the Broadway production, soared though this musical with
her singing, dancing and radiating energy. Bundy was a sight to see on the stage as she made every
line believable while achieving at looking like she was having the time of her life throughout the
entire production. The thing that stuck out the most was the amount of emotion that was poured into
this performance from every single character, minor or major, taking part. From scenes such as Elle
finding out she got Callahan's law internship to the famous "Bend and Snap" scene,

Assistant Stage Manager Research Paper
The assistant stage manager (ASM) has a variety of jobs around the theatre, primarily consisting of
working for the stage manager and deputy stage manager, and helping them in the running of the
production. Job hours can vary greatly between productions, but are often long and unsociable,
because while rehearsals and meetings may be held during the day, performances are held during the
evenings and on weekends. Wages can also differ between theatre companies and productions; a
starting wage is typically between £15,000 and £17,000, but can move up to around £35,000 with
experience.
Throughout a production, an assistant stage manager can perform a number of roles, as they are
frequently viewed as a go–to person for jobs. Therefore, there ... Show more content on

This can be a positive as it means that there are more people to rely on for the work; the
responsibility is not all placed on one person. However, the need for more people means that there is
more work to do overall for the production, which could become stressful and complicated in the
absence of lots of good communication. On the other hand, this may instead mean that the job of the
assistant stage manager is simply more specified, and focussed on one area of responsibility, such as
props. Assistant stage managers in large theatres are usually paid per production. This gives them
the opportunity to experience various different types of work in different theatres, helping them to
grow and become better skilled for the job. Work in the theatre can be hard to find, so while they can
be paid more per production, finding consistent work could become an issue. An assistant stage
manager in this position would learn how to work as a member of a large production management
team, and would likely gain a lot of skill focused on one area, unlike with other sizes of theatre. This
is because large scale theatres have a lot of people employed, so can allow jobs to be much more
specific, even in a role such as assistant stage manager which is open ended by nature. Large scale
theatres also tend to have better technology and higher budgets than

To Kill a Mockingbird Play Review Essay
To Kill a Mockingbird Review
Introduction.
On the 28th April 2011, I went to see a professional production of To Kill a Mockingbird written by
Harper Lee at the 'Blackpool Grand Theatre'. The novel To Kill a Mockingbird is set in 1935 in
Alabama, a story about innocence, knowledge, prejudice and courage. In the beginning the main
character, Scout, starts out to be a very immature child not knowing the prejudice times around her,
as the story goes on she gains knowledge of these times by fellow kids around her accusing her dad
of being a "nigger lover" which then was an insult. Her father was being courageous of a black man
being falsely accused of raping a white girl. Her father, Atticus, is a criminal defence attorney only

Direction
One of the most vital parts of putting on a play is a director who will provide an understandable, and
watchable performance. This play was a much easier play to put on as it is based on a classic novel
by Harper Lee. From the audiences point of view, the director clearly understood the novel. He gave
a very well adapted stage version of the book, however he didn't rely on the audience having read
the book, he also created a whole new story through different techniques and fresh ways of telling a
story. As a person who has read the book and was a fan of it, and Harper Lee I personally thought
that he did it justice and filled some large boots. The director employed very subtle and yet effective
staging techniques during certain scenes that required a different atmosphere. Some examples of
these techniques were during the scene between Scout and Atticus near the beginning of the play.
Here the staging was very central, this provided a sense of a close relationship between the
characters. Also, a small inclusion of a chair, or a light immediately makes the scene seem more like
a home, and the audience immediately have a different expectation of the scene, for example if an
armchair is introduced to the stage then the audience expect a scene at home, however if a desk and
computer is introduced then the audience expects a scene at work or in a study and therefore the
scene will have a completely different atmosphere. Another innovative technique

Dramatic Elements In Aunt Raini
In this theatrical production– Aunt Raini, directed by the playwright Tom Smith and produced by
Pacific Lutheran University, has successfully perform theatrical elements within different
perspective of the performance, while the performance has connected and integrated the content
based from the script stories. For instance, from a stage production perspective, the constructing
style of the scenes, walls, flats or hand props and the accurate placement of stage properties on stage
has specified the background story setting while different style of composing, designing and
painting of the scenery represent the amount of efforts and works that whole crew had put in during
the process of theater production.
The story of the theatrical performance Aunt Raini was inspired by Leni Riefenstahl, a world–
renowned filmmaker who creates the documentary "Triumph of the Will" of the Reich Party
Congress 1934 in Nuremberg. Sadly, most of Riefenstahl's works after this documentary are
reference as pieces of propaganda for the Nazi Party, which led to her to be misunderstood and
isolated within the art and film communities throughout her lifetime. In this performance, Leni
Riefenstahl, also reference as the protagonist character of "Aunt Raini", has come to New York City
to visit her grandniece Katherine. On the other hand, Katherine, known as "The Great Revealer" for
her ability to find the best up–and–coming artists on the Time magazine, is a successful art gallery

Theater Technician Essay
In the fine arts community there are many options of occupation from drawing and painting to
singing and instruments and even the Theatre. In theatre there are many options past acting. You
have lights, sounds, makeup and costume, set, stage manager, assistant stage manager, house
manager, ushers, and director. As a theatre technician I would want to do it all but mostly costume,
set, and sound. With costume design comes clothing design. You are given a character and you have
to show who they are through clothing. Pulling things from the script is important as to find small
information that could be used. It also helps to figure out what they go through, do they change
clothes, do they roll through dirt. You'll also need to know the time period to know what fashions

that's the theme you're going for. Design has many elements to keep in mind. How does the set go

Elements used in Raisin in the Sun Essay
Drama 160 Term Paper: Raisin in the Sun
Lorraine Hansberry's Raisin in the Sun is a monumental play in the theatrical world. Produced in
1959, it became the first play written by an African–American woman to hit the stage and was later
nominated for several Tony Awards. The play touched many controversial themes of the time
including racial discrimination and poverty. The design of Raisin in the Sun, including scenic,
costume, lighting, and sound elements, were crucial to developing the plot and emphasizing these
themes. All of the elements are vital to the message and audience interpretation of the production,
and overall, the Playmakers Repertory Company executed them well.

In addition to scenery, the props strategically placed around the housed illustrated the family's cares
and values. Throughout the room, the audience could see many picture frames. However, the two
that were predominately displayed were a picture of Christ hanging over the front door, and a
picture of Lena's deceased husband that stayed on a table in the living room. These props
emphasized importance the Younger's placed on family and religion, which came up many times
throughout the production. The entire family lived under one roof, looking after one another and
making ends meet, together as a whole. In addition, the plot centered around a life–insurance check
from the death of Lena's husband. This kept the element of religion present since he was deceased
and in the eyes of Lena, watching over the family. Both the design of the apartment and the detail of
the props within it gave the audience a greater understanding of the deep–rooted values and conflicts
of the family. The costume design of Raisin in the Sun went hand–in–hand with the scenery and
props. The realistic clothes of the Younger family further described a family of lower class, although
not an untidy one. Each day, the members of the family would dress for work or school as well as
they could, which illustrated the pride the family carried. This enormous pride

Analysis Of The Play Our Town
Our Town, a theatrical production directed by Roseann Sheridan, recreates the day–to–day activities
of ordinary citizens living in a small New Hampshire town. The stage manager (played by Denzel
Taylor) introduces the audience to the Webb and Gibbs households, who the entire play revolves
around. The Webb and the Gibbs represent the typical family in present day society who live about
their lives and fail to acknowledge and appreciate the small joys of life. The play Our Town uses a
contrast in scenic design between Acts 1–2 and 3, specifically with respect to the absence or
presence of scenery and props, to illustrate how we take our lives for granted; in fact, we never truly
appreciate what we have until it is gone. A recurring theme in ... Show more content on

The absence of scenery and props made me feel as if the characters never fully appreciated all the
wonderful luxuries their town had to offer. I agree with Emily when she asserts that human beings
are "just blind people" because we fail to recognize and appreciate whatever we are fortunate
enough to have. In my opinion, the producers of Our Town did an amazing job conveying this
message with their minimal use of scenery and props in Acts 1–2.
When Emily is up in heaven, she wishes for her spirit to return to Earth so that she can relive past
experiences she considered to be "happy" moments; however, Emily ends up questioning whether or
not "human beings ever realize life while they live it." In fact, the only time the play makes use of
extensive scenery or props is during Act 3, or when Emily is reliving her twelfth birthday and
reflecting back on her life. While there is minimal use of scenery and props in Acts 1 and 2, there is
a beautifully decorated kitchen set in the final scene of Act 3 when Emily returns to her birthday.
The change in set design helped me understand the sharp contrast in how Emily viewed the world as
a child versus now. Not only is there a physical set present in the final scene, but it is also decorated
with a variety of props, ranging from kitchen appliances to a colorful birthday present for Emily.
Emily walks around the kitchen, mesmerized, and

Movie Analysis : Broadway And Google
This was the first time I went to view a theatrical play to actually analyze its elements instead of
simply only paying attention to the story lines and the actors. In order to maintain this task, I wanted
to see a play that was short and catches my interests to be able to remember it more efficiently. I
wasn't sure where to even look for reasonably priced plays, what came to mind was Broadway and
Google. Then I was informed that BMCC was having the theatrical production of "DNA" by Dennis
Kelly. I liked the idea of this play because of its convenience of being located at BMCC and it was
only a hour long. One thing that bothered me was being afraid of boredom and dissatisfaction.
Before reserving my seat online, I pursued research into the play's origins. What I discovered was
Dennis Kelly was given a positive review on the New York Times, found out DNA is a popular play
that is frequently performed at numerous colleges and a summary. I didn't read the entire summary
because of unwanted spoiler alerts but what caught my attention was the plot consisting of teenagers
and a dead body. Thus, allowing me to go ahead and reserve a seat to watch.
When it was time to see DNA, my friends and I entered into a black box theatre consisting of seats
surrounding the entire stage. The stage had two bold dark gray colored concrete walls facing each
other on both sides of the stage and also ramps attached to each wall. At the beginning of the
production, they started with the

William Shakespeare 's Romeo And Juliet
A set designer's use of the hanamichi in a Kabuki production is an essential aspect that can convey
the main principles of Kabuki theatre when used effectively. Therefore, to perform the balcony
scene in Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet" to its fullest effect in a Kabuki style, anyone who is
planning on staging it must be aware of the unique stage features required for a kabuki production,
specifically the use of a hanamichi. Consequently, the research into the elements of kabuki stage and
their effect should be investigated in order to effectively apply them to an adaptation of the balcony
scene from "Romeo and Juliet".

Traditional Kabuki set designers should aim for the same goals, keeping in mind the main principles
and ideas behind Kabuki theatre. They should apply Kabuki principles and innovations, such as the
use of the hanamichi for sudden entrances and the mawaributai for smooth set changes, to the stage
design of the production. In addition, to effectively apply main Kabuki conventions to a production,
set designers should research into the foundations of Kabuki theatre.
Even though the origins of Kabuki theatre can be traced back to 400 years ago, the modern Kabuki
style began to flourish when the government banned Kabuki theatre because it was seen to corrupt
morals. "In Kabuki, it is not necessary to present the real world, rather it aims to reveal universality
and humanity and to amuse the audience" . The word kabuki originates from "the verb kabuku,
meaning to be eccentric, extraordinary or outstep the bounds of common sense" . In its early stages
Kabuki theatre "imitated the Noh theatre, however, gradually over a long period of time the Kabuki
theatre developed a specific form of stage design, called Joshiki" , that is being employed today.
Initially, like Noh theatre, Kabuki was performed outside and the stage copied that of the Noh
theatre. It "had a gable roof structure, a 5.4–meter square stage, and a hashigakari hallway" as
shown in figure 1 below.

A lot of the learning had to do with synchronization. Working on a production of that size, it is a
necessity that everyone learns to work as a team. With an enormous cast and crew, and a set with
many pieces, we all had to work in a way so that we could all do our jobs without interrupting
others. The scenes in which we had to fly Bat Boy were the hardest because we had to get timing
right for everything, as well as the fluidity of the pull. The scene where he flies out had to be a
smooth movement. If it was choppy it wouldn't have looked right. Jumping off the acting block and
pulling the rope with others took plenty of practice as well. For every fly scene, no matter how much
practice we got, there would always be a point where we could end up grabbing each others hands

needed to just keep going with pulling the rope. Teamwork wise, the slaughterhouse wall and door

Stage Machinery Of Baroque Theaters
Stage Machinery of Baroque Theaters The theater's combination of music and acting made them
extremely popular with the whole of Western Europe. The baroque theaters, however, not only
wanted to entertain their audiences but also captivate and astound them. Theaters started using
special effects to amaze their audiences with the visual as well as the auditory; this made theater the
most treasured art form of Europe. In order to amaze their audiences, theaters used extremely
elaborate stage machinery as part of their special effects. One example of this is the deus ex
machina. The deus ex machina "was first used in ancient Greek and Roman drama, where it meant
the timely appearance of a god to unravel and resolve the plot. The deus ex machina was named for
the convention of the god's appearing in the sky, an effect achieved by means of a crane." Giovanni
Legrenzi's deus ex machina in his opera Germanico sul Reno was very different from the ancient
Greek crane. Legrenzi's deus ex machina was a mammoth stage machine used to make it look as if
Apollo was descending from the heavens to rescue the hero while in the background other Greek
gods float in the clouds. This stage machinery was monumental because nothing as elaborate and
eye catching had ever been used before. Not only did the big, dramatic scenes get more elaborate
and impressive, but so did the smaller, more subtle opera scenes. Trap doors were used for dramatic
entrances from the underworld. The

classes. I did not realize that this class would through my career plan out the door. I started out with
acting classes because I thought that they would help me with public speaking. I then started to take
technical theater classes. These classes have helped my creativity grow. Both the acting and
technical theater classes have helped me obtain skills that will help me with my future career,
whatever it may be.
I did not know that I had a problem with public speaking until the time came that I actually had to
do it. I had to do a monologue in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sure, there would be actors, but they would just be sitting there naked in the dark reciting lines"
(Moll). I took what he said to heart. It made me realize how much of a difference one job can make.
In a way, theatre is an art form, getting to create an amazing show in a short time period. Mr. Moll
was not an everyday teacher. Many would say that he teaching ways were unconventional, but I
enjoyed it. "Dramatic arts shine with a compassion that makes us see beyond the suffering" (New
York Times). During the trimester he announced that he was putting on a show and he needed
technicians and actors. I tried out for both. The show was called I Hate Shakespeare; it was a
mashup of multiple Shakespeare plays. I was given a small acting part and a technical job. I had to
learn various skills in order to assist with building the sets, costuming, painting, and makeup for the
actors. As a technician for a play, the cast of the show is counting on me to know what I am doing,
and the director holds me to a high standard. Especially because I am acting as well. This meant that
I needed to learn time management skills and how to improvise when something goes wrong. In
addition, I learned how to work as a team with my classmates. When one person does not do their
job, then the entire show falls apart. We have to rely upon and help each other. A play is like a
puzzle, if a piece

The Comedy Of Errors: Antipholus Of Syracuse
I attended the HCC Stafford Drama Department performance of "The Comedy of Errors" on
Sunday, November 22nd, 2015. I did not know much about this particular Shakespearean play but
was looking forward to a good comedy. When I walked into the theater I was surprised and intrigued
to see that the play was set in a Moroccan bazaar, it heightened my curiosity as to what this play had
in store for the evening.
The actors all did wonderful in their respective roles, from the main characters to the stage hands.
One of the strongest characters in my opinion was Antipholus of Syracuse. He was excellently well
presented and was portrayed as a regal and suspecting newcomer to the city who managed to show
confidence when needed yet was fearful of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Designed to be more of a proscenium style stage, the set did not move about but had a few moving
props, such as a door and trunks, that helped indicate different settings within specific scenes. The
large set itself was painted to look like clay buildings, the floor to look like sandy ground, and each
pathway to either side was set up to look like the opening to a merchant's shop, totaling four in all,
as well as two main entrances on the back main wall, replicating a skene in style, indicating the
masters house and the courtesan house, with the center being the Abbey doorway. There were many
stage props but not many props were used by the actors themselves. Most props sat or hung on
stage, giving the appearance that they were for sale to some lucky buyer. The kind of props used by
actors were more basic: a ring, a chain, and plenty of ropes, to name some that were found on the
actors persons.
Overall I highly enjoyed the play. Being able to see a different side to Shakespeare and seeing it
performed in a different way made for an entertaining evening filled with Shakespearean and
slapstick laughs as the many errors of the night brought on a fun and enchanting

Our Town Play Review Essay

  • 1. Our Town Play Review Essay In this critique I will be analyzing the different aspects that go into producing a play such as, lighting, set, costumes, space, props, actors, etc., and how each served its own significance in the production of "Our Town". Specifically, I want to focus your attention to the theme, set, costumes, and lighting of the play. Additionally, I further elaborate on the play, by including a brief summation of my opinion on the play and the effects that it had on me, at the conclusion. The briefness of life. Several themes are suitable for "Our Town", but I believe that this one in particular is very prominent considering "Our Town" spans the course of numerous years and different times of day in a shortened amount of time. For example, Act I introduced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wardrobe was not the same one hundred years ago and it won't be the same one hundred years from now. "Our Town" mainly takes place during the early twentieth century, a time when wardrobe looked much different from what it resembles now. The play does a great job of mimicking the wardrobe of the time and that alone allowed me to determine the time the story was taking place. Different characters also had different attires which allowed me to accurately interpret the role of each character. The doctor was dressed more professionally, the milkman was dressed comparable to a farmer, and housewives were also dressed according to their lifestyle which consisted of cleaning, and cooking. During certain events of the play such as, weddings, and funerals, every character was dressed more accordingly to meet the attire standards of the occasion. The wardrobe extremely helped me understand the story because it allowed me to understand the current situation of the story, whether it was a wedding, funeral, or just a trip to school. It also helped me differentiate the children from the adults, and the prominent from the not so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Into The Woods Response Essay Upon walking 'into' Into The Woods one would say the mood was set well. The red curtain in front of the proscenium stage, the orchestra tuning their instruments, and a peculiar man standing on the side of the stage. I was prepared for the show, a water bottle and plenty of cough drops to get me through the 2 and ½ hours. What I was not prepared to see was the obvious struggles they were having that day with their own cues. Having worked in show business since I was young, I know opening night is always the night when things go horribly wrong. I can have sympathy for them but a few of the things that were missed were outright ridiculous. When the baker was counting out the beans to Jack and they missed the fourth 'chime' noise, I was surprised. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The actors and actresses did well in their assigned rolls and I wish I could congratulate them on finishing the run. They worked together very well in all of the group musical numbers regardless of how hard they can be to coordinate at times. If I had to rate this performance of the musical it would get a 9/10. The acting, singing, costumes and costume changes, scenery and of course, the plot, are all wonderful and this is a must see. The only thing lacking was the cues and lighting, the use of the gobos was lacking and there was not as much color change as I would have enjoyed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Constellations Critical Analysis Friday, July 14, 2017, I had the pleasure to go see one of Nick Payne's play, Constellations, performed beautifully at the Gil Cates Theater at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles. At first glance, this theatre looked like an art house and it was built in the 1920s, but walking into the performance space I was transformed into the world with a group stars called Constellations. Constellations is a romantic comedy play. My initial opinion about the play was that it was full of thoughtful details. The style of the play felt realistic and as an audience member, I believe that any of them could happen in their situations. I had to analyze the subtext of the tiny details that separates one character from another. After the play was over, I left the theater thinking about the what ifs and the different possibilities. I wished that there was more to the play. At the start of the play, the first few scenes stuck out to me because each scene in the play was told through different distinct viewpoints. At first, I was confused and it took me a minute or two to understand what was going on. During that moment when I was confused, those few scenes stuck out to me because I was amazed that Marianne and Roland was able to change character minute to minute. For example, they met at a barbecue or they didn't meet at all. In another scene, they are attracted to each other, or one of them isn't interested while the other one is. Or they both loved each other. This stuck out to me because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow On October 12th, 2017, the Averitt Center produced "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" at the Black Box Theatre in Statesboro, GA. "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" is based on the story by Washington Irving and was dramatized by Kathryn Schultz Miller. "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" was directed by Bathany DeZelle. Main actors were Zac Davis, Edward Preble, Grace Jarrell, John Parcels, Edy Kaleta, Aubrey Roberts, Sofia Costantini, Kenzie Cannady, Kian DeVine, and Ernesto Moina. Other actors included were Xavier Deckard, Aidan Sowell, Jack Blackmon, Alex Shroyer, Mackenzie McGrath, Cecilia Marsh, and John Marsh. The basic theme of the story was not to be so superstitious and to watch what people say to you. The main character was a superstitious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The actor performs Icabod as a strange man who has a special way with women and is determined to do anything for love. You really cannot dislike the character Icabod, he is a very likeable character and almost anyone can identify with him in one way or another. The actor for Icabod was very smooth, and he did not look like he was acting, his line delivery was on–point, clear, and able to be heard and his movements were natural and believable. The director managed to help the actors perform convincingly. All of the performers worked exceptionally well as an ensemble and it appeared as the actors were friends with each other. Though there was no use of microphones, you could easily see and hear what was going on and the actors projected their voices correctly. Both the entrances and exits were smooth and the scene changes were made in a smooth manner as well. The stage space was well used, though it might have been used a little too much at times with too many props for the space they had to work with. The set design was beautiful and colorful. The actors were able to use all of the space provided and there was not one space not used. The set design was not too distracting to the play and you were able to focus on the actors. The set design contributed to the mood of the play with its bright, spunky colors and the rolling–trees used made the set menacing when it needed to be. The set is symbolic with "Sleepy Hollow ... • 9. High School To Life Research Paper Alexis Mooney Dr. Touchstone 2/10/2017 Research essay High School to Life/ Period 5 Building a Set When you are planning to build a set there are steps that need to be apart of the process when wanting to create a beautiful and functional set. The first step is to have the set designer create the design, it should convey the director's vision of the production. The design should include the scenery, the different locations and how the actors will move to the different locations on stage and making sure that they have enough acting space. The next step is set the style and tone that works best for the production. Today a popular choice is to leave the main drape untouched. The main drape is the curtain that separates the stage from the audience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This move is credited to Joseph Schreyvogel, the director of Vienna's Burgtheater. American producer, director, and playwright David Belasco is remembered today for his passion towards a naturalistic detail. In 1909, for a production of The Easiest Way, his set designer used inspiration from a boarding house room. He included the wallpaper, and other aspects of the room. As a successful playwright he provided the perfect dramatic source material for two of Puccini's most popular operas. As early as 1804, the set designs started to evolve into something much bigger. Now they include wings with door and window flats making the set look realistic. "In 1832, a critic wrote 'the stage's more perfect enclosure fits the appearance of a private chamber infinitely better than the old contrivance of wings.' When Mme" (Macgowan and Melnitz). When Vestris put on Dion Boucicault's London Assurance, the critics payed the most attention to the realistic looking set. This set had very heavy modeling and couldn't be moved. The set consisted of real doors with doorknobs and furniture. Towards the end of the 19th century, two set designers, Adolphe Appia and Edward Gordon Craig, rose against the practices of traditional European acting. They wanted to go with a flat floor for the actors to stand on with the flats and painted canvas surrounding them to give a more realistic setting. • 11. Essay On Being A Stage Manager Next on my list was a regional stage manager, Ruth Kramer. Ruth is based out of New York, however her last job was in Pittsburgh. As of right now Ruth is "between adventures" as she so cheerfully put it. However, the last show she worked on was Equus. Equus was a big show, and the hardest part was keeping the actors' safe. The men played horses, so they had horse masks and hooves which made it difficult to see and walk around on stage. As for Ruth, the hardest part was learning the text and material, because this show was about psychology so she had to research to fully understand the production. Besides that, she said that everything else went well during the show. However, her director decided to leave for a week instead of the 2 days ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She thinks if you cannot go a few weeks or even months with our having a job than this is not a business you should be in. Ruth's advice simply boiled down to you have to absolutely love it if you want to do it. She said this, "there is influx of stage managers and an outflow of jobs". If you find out when you start you are not good, do not do this as your job. And lastly if you choose to do this you have to be able to want to stage manage anything. After talking to Ruth, it was put into perspective that I cannot have any doubts about being a stage manager. My last interview was with a Halloween Horror Nights stage manager, Madalyn Musser. Madalyn was an assistant stage manager on the Bill and Ted Show at Halloween Horror Nights this past season. She also oversees certain sections of entertainment for holiday events at Universal. She said the hardest part of working at Universal as a whole is the politics. The environment is very competitive, you always have to do your best to be put on another event. There are many choices a production team has to make when creating a production such as the set, the lighting, and sound. The choices made can help the audience in understanding the play's story, characters, and theme, but they can also hinder the audience if done poorly. The choice made by this production team were truly amazing I loved the entire play and the details such as the lighting and sound is what made it so special. In the final act Mrs. Gibbs and Emily are both dead, when Emily looks back on memories they are no longer the same as they were while she was alive, they create sorrow for her. This scene emphasizes the theme's idea that you should always enjoy the simple things while you still have them, because once the moment is gone it is gone forever. I completely agree with the play's message. There is nothing more important in life than the connections you make with other people and the love you can spread. Those are the most precious moments in life that you should hold on to forever. After you pass the objects that you possessed won't be important any more, no one is going to care about how many cars you had, or how big your house was, or how many shoes you had. In the back ground, there is a whole team involved with the production process of a show. The main player in the production process is a stage manager. The Talbot Theatre production of Lysistrata both entertained and delighted this member of the audience, who was there partly because of an English assignment requirement, but mainly because of the opportunity to enjoy a live theatre production. The theatre company employed many different components to bring this antiwar play to life that evening on the stage. These components can be broken into three categories, which visually enhanced the text of the play. The first of these categories is the setting, the stage lighting, and the props. The second component is the symbolism of some of those props, and the third component is the character portrayals by the actors on the stage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most strikingly visual use of stage props is the appearance of larger than life erect phalluses under the tunics of all the male main characters during the second half of the play. These seemingly grotesque male members serve to symbolize the frustration of the men. However, they are also a symbol of how the men's political power has been superceded by the primitive urge for sex, and how the women now hold power over the men. The statue, which is on the platform, is dressed in armor and symbolizes the war. The shield is taken by the women to be used for the purpose of swearing their oath, but they quickly realize that they cannot swear for peace on a shield used for war. This warrior statue disappears at the end of the play, reappearing as a female, the statue of PEACE, considerably shapelier and more enticing to the men. The characters presented the most impressive visual component. Lysistrata was portrayed perfectly as a down–to–earth woman who has had enough of war and is willing to lead a revolution to end it. Most of the rest of the women are portrayed as being frothy little things, more interested in clothing, shopping and sex, interests which Lysistrata feels that she can employ to bring about the change in the men's attitudes. The costumes on the main characters evoked the image of the time, and helped to define the characters. That man was George Lucas. The Lost Ark was an immediate success for the obvious reasons of, a great original story line and the ridiculously amazing amount of action, but most unknowledgable movie–goers missed some film and technical techniques that make the Lost Ark a cinematic beauty. The Lost Ark was uniformly praised for their special effects, music, screenplay, and the more technical aspects of cinematography, camera position and lighting. These film elements make Raiders of the Lost Ark into a movie that will be passed down for generations. Camera angles are truly important to any film. They can emanate a mood or a characteristic of a character without said character saying a word. On the other hand, this may instead mean that the job of the assistant stage manager is simply more specified, and focussed on one area of responsibility, such as props. Direction One of the most vital parts of putting on a play is a director who will provide an understandable, and watchable performance. This play was a much easier play to put on as it is based on a classic novel by Harper Lee. From the audiences point of view, the director clearly understood the novel. He gave a very well adapted stage version of the book, however he didn't rely on the audience having read the book, he also created a whole new story through different techniques and fresh ways of telling a story. As a person who has read the book and was a fan of it, and Harper Lee I personally thought that he did it justice and filled some large boots. The director employed very subtle and yet effective staging techniques during certain scenes that required a different atmosphere. Some examples of these techniques were during the scene between Scout and Atticus near the beginning of the play. Here the staging was very central, this provided a sense of a close relationship between the characters. Also, a small inclusion of a chair, or a light immediately makes the scene seem more like a home, and the audience immediately have a different expectation of the scene, for example if an armchair is introduced to the stage then the audience expect a scene at home, however if a desk and computer is introduced then the audience expects a scene at work or in a study and therefore the scene will have a completely different atmosphere. It also helps to figure out what they go through, do they change clothes, do they roll through dirt. You'll also need to know the time period to know what fashions we're appropriate. If it's victorian what do the lower class wear, or the upper class, if you're working with old generals how were they presented. You also have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The more your set goes with the time period the play is in, the more your audience can get into it. The whole point of any design is to give you more on the story or characters. If your play is set for 1956 but your set looks 2016 it may not make any sense unless that's the theme you're going for. Design has many elements to keep in mind. How does the set go with the play? It has to make sense with the story. Building bigger sets will require a lot of support and you need to know that it can fit. Working with the space around you to figure the exact design is better than for bigger projects so you know your limitations. Smaller projects need to make a big impact to the audience, more detail would more likely be needed. You also have to consider the levels of your stage. I took several quizzes, but would get a different answer each time. Personally, I believe I usually settle between the authoritative and pacesetting management styles. I have high standards, but I am open to letting others find better way to complete a task. If they fail, I will take over and do the task myself, or let someone I find more knowledgable do it. Produced in 1959, it became the first play written by an African–American woman to hit the stage and was later nominated for several Tony Awards. The play touched many controversial themes of the time including racial discrimination and poverty. The design of Raisin in the Sun, including scenic, costume, lighting, and sound elements, were crucial to developing the plot and emphasizing these themes. All of the elements are vital to the message and audience interpretation of the production, and overall, the Playmakers Repertory Company executed them well. In addition to scenery, the props strategically placed around the housed illustrated the family's cares and values. Throughout the room, the audience could see many picture frames. However, the two that were predominately displayed were a picture of Christ hanging over the front door, and a picture of Lena's deceased husband that stayed on a table in the living room. These props emphasized importance the Younger's placed on family and religion, which came up many times throughout the production. The entire family lived under one roof, looking after one another and making ends meet, together as a whole. In addition, the plot centered around a life–insurance check from the death of Lena's husband. This kept the element of religion present since he was deceased and in the eyes of Lena, watching over the family. Both the design of the apartment and the detail of the props within it gave the audience a greater understanding of the deep–rooted values and conflicts of the family. The costume design of Raisin in the Sun went hand–in–hand with the scenery and props. The realistic clothes of the Younger family further described a family of lower class, although not an untidy one. Each day, the members of the family would dress for work or school as well as they could, which illustrated the pride the family carried. This enormous pride ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. Analysis Of The Play Our Town Our Town, a theatrical production directed by Roseann Sheridan, recreates the day–to–day activities of ordinary citizens living in a small New Hampshire town. The stage manager (played by Denzel Taylor) introduces the audience to the Webb and Gibbs households, who the entire play revolves around. The Webb and the Gibbs represent the typical family in present day society who live about their lives and fail to acknowledge and appreciate the small joys of life. The play Our Town uses a contrast in scenic design between Acts 1–2 and 3, specifically with respect to the absence or presence of scenery and props, to illustrate how we take our lives for granted; in fact, we never truly appreciate what we have until it is gone. A recurring theme in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The absence of scenery and props made me feel as if the characters never fully appreciated all the wonderful luxuries their town had to offer. I agree with Emily when she asserts that human beings are "just blind people" because we fail to recognize and appreciate whatever we are fortunate enough to have. In my opinion, the producers of Our Town did an amazing job conveying this message with their minimal use of scenery and props in Acts 1–2. When Emily is up in heaven, she wishes for her spirit to return to Earth so that she can relive past experiences she considered to be "happy" moments; however, Emily ends up questioning whether or not "human beings ever realize life while they live it." In fact, the only time the play makes use of extensive scenery or props is during Act 3, or when Emily is reliving her twelfth birthday and reflecting back on her life. While there is minimal use of scenery and props in Acts 1 and 2, there is a beautifully decorated kitchen set in the final scene of Act 3 when Emily returns to her birthday. The change in set design helped me understand the sharp contrast in how Emily viewed the world as a child versus now. Not only is there a physical set present in the final scene, but it is also decorated with a variety of props, ranging from kitchen appliances to a colorful birthday present for Emily. Movie Analysis : Broadway And Google This was the first time I went to view a theatrical play to actually analyze its elements instead of simply only paying attention to the story lines and the actors. In order to maintain this task, I wanted to see a play that was short and catches my interests to be able to remember it more efficiently. I wasn't sure where to even look for reasonably priced plays, what came to mind was Broadway and Google. Then I was informed that BMCC was having the theatrical production of "DNA" by Dennis Kelly. I liked the idea of this play because of its convenience of being located at BMCC and it was only a hour long. One thing that bothered me was being afraid of boredom and dissatisfaction. Before reserving my seat online, I pursued research into the play's origins. What I discovered was Dennis Kelly was given a positive review on the New York Times, found out DNA is a popular play that is frequently performed at numerous colleges and a summary. I didn't read the entire summary because of unwanted spoiler alerts but what caught my attention was the plot consisting of teenagers and a dead body. William Shakespeare 's Romeo And Juliet A set designer's use of the hanamichi in a Kabuki production is an essential aspect that can convey the main principles of Kabuki theatre when used effectively. Therefore, to perform the balcony scene in Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet" to its fullest effect in a Kabuki style, anyone who is planning on staging it must be aware of the unique stage features required for a kabuki production, specifically the use of a hanamichi. Traditional Kabuki set designers should aim for the same goals, keeping in mind the main principles and ideas behind Kabuki theatre. They should apply Kabuki principles and innovations, such as the use of the hanamichi for sudden entrances and the mawaributai for smooth set changes, to the stage design of the production. In addition, to effectively apply main Kabuki conventions to a production, set designers should research into the foundations of Kabuki theatre. Even though the origins of Kabuki theatre can be traced back to 400 years ago, the modern Kabuki style began to flourish when the government banned Kabuki theatre because it was seen to corrupt morals. • 67. Stage Machinery Of Baroque Theaters Stage Machinery of Baroque Theaters The theater's combination of music and acting made them extremely popular with the whole of Western Europe. The baroque theaters, however, not only wanted to entertain their audiences but also captivate and astound them. Theaters started using special effects to amaze their audiences with the visual as well as the auditory; this made theater the most treasured art form of Europe. In order to amaze their audiences, theaters used extremely elaborate stage machinery as part of their special effects. One example of this is the deus ex machina. The deus ex machina "was first used in ancient Greek and Roman drama, where it meant the timely appearance of a god to unravel and resolve the plot. The deus ex machina was named for the convention of the god's appearing in the sky, an effect achieved by means of a crane." Giovanni Legrenzi's deus ex machina in his opera Germanico sul Reno was very different from the ancient Greek crane. Legrenzi's deus ex machina was a mammoth stage machine used to make it look as if Apollo was descending from the heavens to rescue the hero while in the background other Greek gods float in the clouds. This stage machinery was monumental because nothing as elaborate and eye catching had ever been used before. Not only did the big, dramatic scenes get more elaborate and impressive, but so did the smaller, more subtle opera scenes. Trap doors were used for dramatic entrances from the underworld. The ...
