Overcoming Negative Success Indicators
NAME: Tiffany Malcolm
Directions: Below, you will find a list of some of the most common negative success indicators
for students today. Develop at least two positive strategies to overcome each indicator.
Making excuses and blaming others:
1. Not depending on others can stop you from blaming others when you do not like the
outcome
2. Thinking about positive outcomes about a situation possibly can stop a person from making
excuses if it is an outcome a person really wants
Tardiness (late for classes):
1. Setting clocks 10 minutes fast
2. Going to sleep earlier so your body wants to wake up earlier
Avoiding responsibility:
1.Think about accountability
2. Think about the rewards as well as consequences
Partying over studying:
1. Setting a day of the week where you study so the rest of the week you can do what you
want
2. Since most partying happens at night, study in the day time
Apathy:
1. Finding something interesting in the subject you find not interesting
2. Join a group or honor society in school
No focus or goals
1. Thinking about what you want to do as a job can become a goal
2. Putting yourself in an environment that is quite may help a person become focus on what
they need to do
Pessimism:
1. Think about the positive possibilities
2. Make positive list about situations that you may be stuck in and see there is not only
negative things
Social isolation (shyness):
1. Finding a social group that have the same interest in you
