2. Azthromycin
Azithromycin is an antibiotic.
It's widely used to treat chest infections such as pneumonia,
infections of the nose and throat such as sinus infection
(sinusitis), skin infections, Lyme disease, and some sexually
transmitted infections.
The medicine is available on prescription as capsules, tablets
and a liquid that you drink. It can also be given by injection, but
this is usually only done in hospital.
3. Azthromycin
Azithromycin is an azalide, a subclass of macrolide antibiotics. It is
derived from erythromycin, with a methyl-substituted nitrogen atom
incorporated into the lactone ring, thus making the lactone ring 15-
membered. It prevents bacteria from growing by interfering with their
protein synthesis. It binds to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome
and thus inhibits translation of mRNA. Azithromycin is used to treat or
prevent certain bacterial infections, most often those causing middle ear
infections, strep throat, pneumonia, typhoid, bronchitis, and sinusitis. In
recent years, it has been used primarily to prevent bacterial infections in
infants and those with weaker immune systems
4. Azthromycin The synthesis of azithromycin typically
commences by the fermentation of
erythromycin A. In a subsequent synthetic step,
a methyl-substituted nitrogen atom is
incorporated into the lactone ring of
erythromycin A to form azithromycin.
The process comprises n-methylation of
azaerythromycin in isopropanol in presence of
methylating agent and the reaction is stopped
by aqueous base. The organic layer is separated
and cooled slowly, resulting in the precipitation
of azithromycin monohydrate isopropanol
clathrate by addition of water.
Production of the Azithromycin API used for
manufacture of the solid dosage forms was
carried out in four steps. The injectable grade
API was manufactured in five steps.
5. Azthromycin
Major equipment are
reactors and centrifuges,
and processing lines .
Mainly closed systems
were used in the
production. Stainless
steel or glass-line
reactors were used for
the production of
Azithromycin API as
appropriate to the
process stage.
9. Azthromycin
This year 2020, India’s largest
manufacturer of azithromycin has
done well & Their exports went up
significantly.
The biggest gainers were those
having hydroxychloroquine and
azithromycin in their portfolio
