1. Mid-winter murders evaluation Unit 5
·
The strengths of my project
My strengths while making and shooting our crime drama advert were that I was very happy to take
charge when I needed to and also I gave some very crucial ideas because seen a lot of spoofs so I had
a good idea of what we could do to create a good crime drama spoof. I was also very confident while
acting and directing, for example I was very comfortable asking people what to do and how to do it
(at the end when everyone is looking shocked)
•my weaknesses of my project
my weaknesses while making our crime drama was my editing, for example the final cut didn’t flow
properly and it didn’t feel 100% complete. also I didn’t pull my weight as much as I would of liked, as
in I didn’t do enough of the hard work (making the spider diagrams and filming) finally I kept on
getting side tracked like I was so focused on making it too good it started to get too complicated and
it made it even more hard for my group and myself.

What I edited and how I edited it (step by step)
Well I edited all my clips so that they fitted properly and went in an organised order (a really big cliff
hanger at the end so people will want to come and see our TVprogram) I think that this is the best
way because this will give me the best chance to get the most views when it broadcasts on TV. I also
had to re name all of the individual movie clips so I would know what went where, this will make it
easier for me to edit my movie trailer. I also found a dramatic movie music to make it tense and it
will get you hype up, I also wanted to get a catchy song when they hear it again they will realise that
it is midwinter murders.
This tool helped me cut the clips to size so I could fit it in to the music and also make it so it fitted in
to the time that we had given to us (1 minute 30 seconds)
This too helped me move clips in to place
This is the button that you have to click to import clips
2. This is how you would add a new title in to your clips
(click on ‘title’ then ‘new title’ then ‘default still’)
We chose this colour scheme because it looked
the colour scheme from ‘the bill’ a successful crime
drama set in London. And we
thought that we could adopt this
theme because it looks gritty and
they contrasts very well. We also
chose the font because it looks
sleek and easy to read.

The team work of your team throughout the process
Our team worked really well when shooting and directing our crime drama advert, because we all
pulled our own weight and gave great input in to it on what angles to do and where the setting is
going to be also we all gave an equal points to the work. We all had roles (I was the director, Sophie
and Luke were the actors and Isaac was the camera man) also we were the only group that did most
of the work outside of school so we could make the clips to the best of our abilities because we
cloud have the whole day too shoot and film it. The thing that my group and I all lacked on was a
communication. We were not organised because we were all sharing out the work two of us would
do the same thing and someone else would do another so we would have two pieces of the same
work and not the other bits of the work. So everything was a bit rushed coming towards the end of
the unit.
Do you think that the overall trailer looked good?
Yes and no. yes because it w2as original and it was also well shot with the camera angle and the
acting, also the settings were set very well and it was very realistic to an extent. However the editing
wasn’t to the best of my abilities because the way the clips move in together are too jagged (too fast
and it doesn’t fade in a very well) however that sort of suits the music and it also puts you on edge
3. because it is fast and always going on to the next clip so they get a better understanding of what the
basic story line is about so the will want to watch it when it gets broadcasted.
What have I learnt?
I have learnt how to use adobe premiere pro at a high armature level as in I know how to make a
basic trailer by editing on this program. I have also learnt that a time schedule is key to having a
successful unit because so you can keep time and track of everything. I have also learnt how to use
the school cameras and tripods so I can now use them fast and efficiently
If I could do it again I would make a team time schedule so we could keep track of time and who is
doing what and a what time so we will be more organised and we can do it more efficiently so we
could maybe have some time left over at the end so we could improve on some stuff that wasn’t
amazing at the start with so we could get a greater grade. Also I would have chosen a different song
so I could make the editing smoother because smooth editing doesn’t go very well with that type of
song. Other from that I personally think that we all worked well as a team and that we never had a
big fight that set a bad mood in the air and I think that was because we all respected one another
and got on well as each other.
