1. The car is symbolic
itself, within the
digipack it features
several times and
almost tells a story in
each shot. They all are
shown in long shots
overlooking
mountains, In order
they show an open car
door, on the inside
there’s a wolf and
then the another with
the car slanted and
blood poring out the
front door. The car
also features in the
music videos that
were made along side
this album. (example
“things we lost to the
fire”)
A binary opposite included in the digipack could be the two CD’s
themselves. This could be suggestive to the content on each CD. With
‘Bad Blood’ having the minor key, serious songs and ‘Other People
Heart Ache’ being more electronic and upbeat.
The back of the digipack
shows a long shot
similar to a shot from
their music video
“Things we lost to the
fire.” This video seems
to be what the digipack
is based around. It also
works with the layout of
the back cover,
separating the track list
of the two CD’s with the
group of people.
The digipack included a lyric book that was accompanied by photos
that complemented the themes of the album. (Darker tones, rundown
settings) there was also included photo of the band performing which
allows the audience who by it see a little bit about what the band
members are like.
2. Bastille
• From what we are shown on the digipack we can infer that this is going to be a
darker toned album, from its dark colour scheme to its sinister imagery of the
seemingly abandoned car with a pool of blood surrounding it.
• We see no obvious suggestion of the kinds of characters that would be included
within the album, however we could infer that perhaps the men walking on the
back of the pack could be inferred as villains as there dressed in black, which has
connotations of darkness and evil, with their identities hidden which are
stereotypes of that kind of character.
• There is enigma created with the ambiguity of the images included within the
digipack, they have dark connotations with no set reason of what they signify.
• The digipack itself creates perhaps a darker tone for the band, they have chosen
monotone colors on most of the things included in the digipack which sets up their
audience to assume that the band will continue this dark, symbolic tone they have
created for themselves within the marketing.
• This type of packaging and the message the album speaks of may appeal to a
‘strugglers’ as it depicts a harsh reality which this type of audience would react
with. ‘Reformers’ may also find appeal within this album as it does speak about
political and social issues, the digipack itself is symbolic so this type of audience
could interpret it how they wish.
