2. In our media product we have researched many social groups, ages,
genres that could match our Opening Sequence. We have mainly
looked at people who have psychological problems as our main
protagonist has got an mental illness. This character covers all the
representations of; age, ethnicity and gender. When looking at all of
these types of representation we have looked at the social class theory.
We mainly looked at people who have the same social, economical or
educational status.
3. The Characters Profile:
For our opening sequence the character profile is;
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Gender: Female
Social Status: Lower Class
Issues: Mental Illness
In our main task we wanted the protagonist to be running away from
someone or something, the reason we have done this is because we
wanted the audience to have questions on what they want to happen
and create and enigma codes. Throughout this sequence the
audience does not see a good side to her. The protagonist shows
the emotions of being scared, vulnerable, alone and weak.
4. Protagonists Social Class:
From our opening sequence, by the way the protagonist acts the
audience automatically realises that she has a type of mental
illness or any psychological problems. The media product clearly
shows that she is not a normal girl who does unordinary things. In
the social class theory she is classed as underclass as she is
unemployed and underage. The characters status is E, in the
pyramid as she has poor quality and ragged clothes which
reinforces she has no other clothes or cant affords anything else.
5. Age
The age of our protagonist is still a teenager as she is around 16-17,
this age is when people are most venerable and feeling stressed.
We show the age in this sequence stereotypically as most people in
this age group are innocent and feeling very emotional. So the
character age that we picked was perfect.
The target audience is also the same age as the protagonist. The
BBFC ratings for a psychological horror is ages 15-25. This means
that the audience can really connect with the character.
The fact that the age group is similar means that we have a wide
range of audiences that people can watch from around the globe.
6. Gender and Ethnicity:
In our opening sequence our protagonist is a female, we chose this
because many girls within the 15-24 age groups have a hard time finding
themselves and researching on mental illnesses many issues are that
teenage girls get this illness at a young ag, so as a group we though that
the audience can really relate to the character. To be stereotypical many
male audiences watch horror films whereas in this case both male and
females can both watch our opening sequence which mean that we have
a mass audience.
The ethnicity of the protagonist is Caucasian, but this does not set a
clear target as all sorts of ethnicities can watch this film not only
Caucasian people. The protagonist does not speak or show herself
throughout the sequence meaning that the audience are in suspense
whether she could be British, American etc.
