Horror movie analysis
1. Horror movie Analysis
The Exorcist- This horror film is one of the best known,
produced in 1973. The movie is about an evil spirit taking over
a teenage body, possessing a girl and terrorising her family. By
watching this film I have picked up many techniques such as
low-key lighting, non-diegetic sounds, effects and enigma
codes. The poster of the film The Exorcist show that it’s
gloomy, dark and has some kind of cynical feel about it. The
bold writing also reinforces that its out there and the touch of
red may represent blood and horror. As I am planning to do a
horror theme I have learnt a few techniques on what the
audience might like and want to see.
The conjuring- the film the conjuring is about a demon spirit as
you can tell from the name its come back to haunt the people
living in its house. This movie is a very popular horror movie
that has had many views and great critic. This is based on a
real life story, which give the sense of realism. From watching
the film I have picked up a few points that could make my
opening sequence look spooky.
The close ups and creepy music really makes this movie, the
dark and gloomy setting also makes this film really mysterious
and creates may enigma codes.
The Shining is a classic horror film, this production has a
similar feel to what I am planning to do for my opening
sequence.
The movie is about a family that goes to an abandoned
hotel, the father is the protagonist in the movie who is
possessed and mentally unstable trying to kill his wife
and son. The scenes that I have really analysed and
taken points from is the shots and scenes where the
main character is possessed and mental because that’s
what I want the main character of my sequence to be
like.
