2. Overall
• In this opening sequence we have only one
character therefore, the representation of
particular groups were quite limited. We could
only represent one type of group with the
opening and while representing the group we
wanted to break down as many stereotype as
possible.
3. Gender
• While choosing the gender of our character I
first thought that we should choose a male
character. However, the more we discussed on
it I realised that choosing a male character
searching for his missing girlfriend would only
support the stereotype of males character
being the dominant type.
4. Gender
• In this opening, we chose a female character
who is independent and going through issues
including her broken mental fortitude. This
shows that how a woman can be the hero
character and save someone’s life as much as
a male character. We broke down the
stereotype of a woman rely on their
‘emotions’ and make ‘wrong’ decisions.
5. Sexuality
• In this opening sequence we are not giving
many hints regarding the character’s sexuality.
She is looking for her boyfriend which shows
that she is in a relationship but we are not
showing this in the opening. Therefore,
audience can create many meanings of the
sexuality as she has a more masculine style
and more strong posture.
6. Ethnicity
• The audience doesn’t have a clue regarding
the ethnicity in this opening sequence. It is
clear that she is not British however, it is not
clear which ethnicity she belongs. This is a
mystery to be revealed throughout the film.
However, the character we used is a mixed
character who is both Asian and European.
7. Age
• This opening sequence is representing a young
adult. She is 22 years old university student
and we believe that this representation is
perfect for our audience as psychological
thrillers are mostly being seen by 15-34 age
groups.
8. Class
• In this opening sequence an average student
is represented. We see her in an apartment
flat middle of the London living by herself. It is
clear that she has enough assets to fund
herself and her studies. However, her being a
student is an important factor as she doesn’t
have a full-time job where she earns money
properly. Therefore, we know that she is not
middle-class but she is not unemployed as
well.
