2. The battle of Yorktown was the last battle in the
Revolutionary War.
Yorktown was a river port near Chesapeake Bay.
The following slides will have more information about
this battle.
3. The battle started in the year 1781.
The British, led by Lord Cornwallis, was camping out by
Yorktown.
George Washington wanted to take back the fort from the
British so Washington took his army to Yorktown.
With the help by the French, they trapped the redcoats in
Yorktown, and the battle started.
4. Cornwallis found out the patriots were coming so he had
to chose either to flee or to stay where they are and face
the patriots. He chose to stay.
They fought, but after Cornwallis saw how many people
the patriots had, he tried to run across the York River.
After the retreat, the patriots took the fort back.
Due to a storm, Cornwallis failed to cross the York River
because the water was too ruff.
The next day, the French came and killed Cornwalllis’s
chance to win.
5. After Cornwallis fled, the British supplies were lost to the
Americans.
Cornwallis knew that if he didn’t surrender, he would die
so he surrendered to the Americans.
Later in September, 1783, the Treaty of Paris was
signed, ending the war.
