How Did Robert Frost Influence Society
Influences of Robert Frost
Have you ever been influenced by something? Many people get influenced everyday single day. It might not be something big but they get influenced
it. Some people are influenced by things as small as babies. It doesn't have to be big or even living to influence you. All it takes is a little tiny thing to
influence you. Robert Frost discovered that. The Reason that is because many things influenced Frost's writings.
Frost did not always live in New England. Before he was born his dad lived in Maine and New Hampshire but he hated New England due to the Civil
War. His family moved to San Francisco where he was born. The reason they ended up back in New England was because his dad had passed away.
They unfortunately lacked funds

While in San Francisco Frost was not really a good student but whence he moved to Salem he turned that around and became a serious student. For a
while he attended Dartmouth College until he met Eleanor White his future wife. When they got engaged he dropped out of Dartmouth. At that time is
when he started writing more and more poetry looking for a job. He would write about things that he had came upon. So in a way by having Frost drop
of college it made it so we would get to see how good of a writer he really was. (Robert Lee Frost)
The era that Robert Frost wrote in is the contemporary era. The contemporary era started in 1945 and is still currently being used. The reason that
Frost is considered to be in the contemporary era is because the definition of it is happening in the present and that is how he wrote most if not all of
his poems. He wrote about the things going on around him. Somethings he would write about are Nature and world events. He truly wrote about things
that just happen to him throughout life. (Robert Lee

The Best Modern Poet: Robert Frost Robert Frost is one of the most well–known, publicly celebrated, and influential modern poets in American
History. Even from an early age Frost was extremely intelligent even skipping grades and finishing at the top of his high school class (Fagan). After
graduating high school, Frost was discouraged to begin writing because he thought that it would take twenty years to set up a writing career (Fagan).
After finally beginning his career, Frost loved writing and used it to express himself and found his greatest muses in his wife and children (Fagan).

Poetry Analysis: Mending Wall Essay
"Mending Wall" by Robert Frost, the fifty–six line lyric poem gives off a sarcastic tone that expresses impatience with his neighbor and the "wall."
The poem focuses on a theme of separation, the necessity of boundaries and the illusory arguments used to annihilate them. Frost uses the phrase
"Mending Wall" to show that the relationship between the narrator and the neighbor is not being repaired. The poem focuses on two men who meet
amongst a wall to stroll and make repairs. The narrator feels that the wall shouldn't be there. He states that, "...We do not need the wall: He is all pine
and I am apple orchard, my apples will never get across.(Frost) On the other hand, the neighbor feels that the wall is needed and simply states that, "...

With that, a regional spirit of racism and bigotry is felt from the neighbor. The speaker scorns his neighbor's wall building antics, but has no choice
but to settle with them. Ironically though, the speaker is way more involved and indulged with the annual repairing of the wall more so than the
neighbor. The speaker tends to "bug" the neighbor about the wall in a way and comes off very clingy. He seems very excited about repairing a wall
that he despises. The speaker sets the day they will repair on the wall together and also informs. Regardless of the, dubious attitude that the speaker
gives off, it seems that he is more tied to the mending–wall tradition, more than the neighbor. The speaker comes off more of a modern man, while the
neighbor is stuck in ancient, with building a "wall". However, the speaker is no different from the neighbor; he likes his privacy and his sense of
ownership. Blank verse is used in the poem along with basic, conversational words. There are no rhymes schemes used neither are there any end
rhymes. Ultimately, the existence of the wall keeps the individuality of the two neighbors in tact; one being a pine tree and the other being an apple.
From reading the poem and some of Robert's Frost other works, he shapes his work by the "landscape of his native New England and by the fusion of

The Poetry of Robert Lee Frost
"Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words," Robert Frost once said. As is made fairly obvious by this quote,
Frost was an adroit thinker. It seems like he spent much of his life thinking about the little things. He often pondered the meaning and symbolism of
things he found in nature. Many readers find Robert Frost's poems to be straightforward, yet his work contains deeper layers of complexity beneath
the surface. These deeper layers of complexity can be clearly seen in his poems " The Road Not Taken", "Fire and Ice", and "Birches". Robert Lee
Frost was born on March 26, 1874 in San Francisco. When his father died, he moved to Massachusetts with his family to be closer to his grandparents.
He loved to stay active through sports and activities such as trapping animals and climbing trees. He married his co– valedictorian, Elinor Miriam
White, in 1895. He dropped out of both Dartmouth and Harvard in his lifetime. Robert and Elinor settled on a farm in Massachusetts which his
grandfather bought him, and it was one of the many farms on which he would live in throughout his life. Frost spend the next 9 years writing poetry
while poultry farming. When poultry farming didn't work out, he went back to teaching English. He moved to England in 1912 and became friends
with many people who were also in the writing business. After moving back to America in 1915, Frost bought a farm in New Hampshire and began

The Road Not Taken And Acquainted With The Night
Journeys, whether physical, spiritual or emotional are a complex concept to fully understand. Often these types of journeys are intertwined together
and are employed by poets in their poems to provoke readers into new understandings of themselves and others. These notions are explored through
Robert Frost's poems "The Road Not Taken", "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" and "Acquainted With The Night". Robert Lee Frost (March
26, 1874 – January 29, 1963) was an American Pulitzer Prize winning poet. Frost was a deep twentieth century writer that affiliated his world with his
poetry and hence achieved unparalleled popularity and critical acclaim. Frost composed numerous worksof poetry that reflected the same central idea

The traveller finds himself on a fork in the road and wishes that he could travel both. This being physically and figuratively a non–possibility, is
recognised by the traveller and the idea is immediately rejected. The slight contradiction can be noted in the second stanza when one road is described
as "grassy and wanted wear" and soon after the traveller conveys that the two roads are worn in almost the same manner. In the second stanza, Robert
Frost utilises personification giving the road human characteristics. The "wanted wear" is a distinctively human characteristic and consequently
personifies the path, giving it desires. This is purposefully done as the path itself embodies the act of making a choice which is also uniquely human.
Frost builds on the/enhances the imagery created in this poem in the third stanza and the traveller distinguishes that the leaves on both roads fell
recently and had not been marched upon and suggests that he should return and take the first road another time. The traveller is not sure whether he
would be able to accomplish this desire as he comes to a realisation that life is quite short and as the decision he made would lead to other choices and

The 1920s By Robert Lee Frost
The 1920s was an interesting time in American history, also known as the roaring twenties. The decade was filled with economic prosperity, and
social, economic, and cultural progress. The period saw a widespread use of cars, telephones, motion pictures, and media focusing on celebrities and
sports stars, women won the right to vote however it all came to a crashing halt in 1929 with the Wall Street Crash. During all this incredible change
and innovation Robert Lee Frost, an American poet, wrote and published his work "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" in 1922 and 1923
respectively. Frost was born in 1874 in San Francisco then shortly after moved to Pennsylvania. After the death of his father, he moved to
Massachusetts and became interested in reading and writing poetry during his years in high school in Massachusetts. After enrolling at many colleges
and drifting from various occupations his first poem appeared on a New York newspaper and he became a dedicate poet after that. First, "Stopping

Road Not Taken Explication
The Road Not Taken Robert Frost's poem, "The Road Not Taken", dramatizes the conflict between people and the choices they encounters throughout
their life. During the poem's introduction, the speaker stands at a fork in the road contemplating which path to choose. He ultimately travels "the better
claim"(Frost 7) stating he will return to travel the other another day, though realistically doubting he will ever have to opportunity to do so. Yet if the
traveler returns, he will do so with a twist: he will claim to have taken the road less traveled. The speaker understands both roads are equally worn.
However, this choice is an extended metaphor for any life–altering decisions one must make in their life. The speaker is but "one traveler"(Frost 3),
implying that he is lost and confused both literally and figuratively. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

On March 26, 1874, Robert Lee Frost was born to Isabelle Moodie and William Prescott Frost Junior. He was named after Robert E. Lee a general of
the Confederate army. Frost was also not very religious. According to Frost, God has played a joke on him and he says, "Forgive, O Lord, my little
jokes on thee, and I'll forgive thy great big joke on me" (C. 5). Frost graduated from a school in Lawrence in 1892. He did have some college, but he
eventually dropped out. He later married Elinor White in 1895 soon after his work My Butterfly: An Elegy was published. They had five children
together. I picked Robert Frost because of how he expressed life's choices in The Road Not Taken. I also picked him because I have been reading his
poems since I was a child along with poems by Shel Silverstein.
Frost's key theme is human decision making. In his experience, most people choose the easiest choice they can. The easy road he speaks of is,
"grassy and wanted wear" (8). While, the harder, more difficult road is the opposite in appearance, many people do not choose this road. People make
decisions their whole lives, and depending on which choice is chosen can not only reflect on themselves but also on other people. What he is implying

Summary Of Robert Lee Frost
Name Professor Course Date Poetry Analysis Essay Robert Lee Frost was an American, highly regarded for his realistic depictions of rural life
and his command of American colloquial speech (Bloom 10). In his poems, he employs several stylistic devices that give the poem a good flow.
Frost's poems, Birches and Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening, share certain stylistic elements such as he uses rhetoric questions,
repetition, alliteration, symbolism, and imagery. In Birches, a rhetoric question is apparent where he asks, "whose words these are I think now?"
Also, in Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening, he asks, "now am I free to be poetical?" (Frost) In essence, the use of particular stylistic
devices and themes set the pace, and the mood of the poems and they communicate Frost's message in an appealingly and comprehensively to the
reader. In poem Birches, there is the use of alliteration in the last words of the fifth and sixth stanza where he states, "he gives his harness bells a
shake" (Frost). Alliteration refers to the repetition of the first letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words (Bloom 37). As
seen above, there is a repetition of the consonant 'h.' The repetition of the same sounds at the beginning of a series of words creates an interesting
rhythm that sets the pace of the poem. Frost also uses alliteration Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening to set the pace and create the mood of
the poem. The consonant "h" creates

Unfortunately, he also makes it clear that communication is enormously hard to achieve. For instance, in "Home Burial", Robert Frost describes two
terrible events; the death of a child and the destruction of a marriage. The death of the child is tragic, but inability of the husband and wife to
communicate with each other and express their grief about the loss is what ultimately destroys their marriage. Robert Frost highlights this inability to
communicate by writing the poem in free verse dialogue; each character speaks clearly to the reader, but neither is able to understand the other. Robert
Frost explores a similar theme in "Acquainted with the Night", in which the narrator is unable to pull himself out of his depression because he cannot

In each of these cases, the reader is left with the knowledge that communication could have saved the characters from their isolation. Yet, each
character is unwilling to take the steps needed to create a relationship with another person, which causes each character to be doomed. Certainly an
essential element of Frost's style is his choice of words or diction. He uses everyday words you would use in conversation, this makes his poetry
natural in its wording. He uses words that most people can understand, this also makes his poetry seem practical and ordinary. Frost writes his
sentences with meter and rhythm to enhance their exquisiteness. The style of his writing is simple, using diction. There is nothing complicated about
the structure of Frost's poems; they seem to be simple translations of everyday events into poetry. This simple way of writing is an effect of living in

Robert Lee Frost Analysis
Robert Lee Frost was conceived in San Francisco, March 26. He was one of America's premier twentieth century writers and won the Pulitzer Prize
four times. In spite of the fact that his verse shapes are old–style, he was an innovator in the interaction of meter and rhyme and in the wonderful
utilization of the vocabulary and emphases of how everybody speaks today. His work is full of nature and is very touching. Two of Robert Lee
Frosts supreme and popular poems that I will be working with are "The Road Not Taken" and "Stopping by Woods on A Snowy Evening". In the
poems "Road not taken" and "Stopping by woods on a snowy evening" Robert Frost explains that both depict how to take choices in life a
circumstance where he needs to pick between two ways in that will affect his life forever.
In "The Road Not Taken" the writer in the sonnet is voyaging and comes at the spot from where the road is isolated into two. Here he needs to
choose which way he needs to go for eventual fate of his life. The goals of both pathways are obscure. Yet, the poet needs to pick one of them as he
can't choose both roads at once. Utilizing "yellow wood" (line 1) as a representative signal to seniority moving toward quick, his definitive decision
will endure for what he will have to live with for the rest of his life. Moving toward older age comes with the acknowledgment of the truth, it's an
ideal opportunity to say goodbye to dreams and expectations. "Then took the other, as just as fair and having perhaps the better claim" (line 6–7). The
poet appears to be indecisive here. But, he has settled on a choice, he is still constantly thinking about it. On the outline, both roads strike as
comparative, with no apparent difference. As a result, his absence of activity and uncertainty causes him enormous distress and delay. "Yet knowing
how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back" (line 14–15). The poet endeavors to persuade himself with little achievement, verging
on daydreaming. He induces himself that if one road ends up being unsatisfactory, he would have the capacity to offer reparation and pick the other
road. In any case, looking back, he's completely mindful that his decision will impact him in his later years

The Road Not Taken and Neither Out Far Nor in Deep by Robert Frost
Robert Lee Frost is an American poet who is known for his verse concerning nature and New England life. He was born in San Francisco in 1874.
When his father died in 1885, his mother moved the family to Lawrence, Massachusetts. Frost attended college sporadically after graduating high
school and made a living by working as a bobbin boy in a wool mill, a shoemaker, a country schoolteacher, editor of a rural newspaper, and a farmer.
He also wrote poetry but had little success in having his poems published until, in 1912, when his family moved to England. There, he was befriended
by such established poets as Edward Thomas, Rupert Brooke, and Lascelles Abercrombie. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much of his poetry is concerned with the interaction between humans and nature. Frost regarded nature as a beautiful but dangerous force, worthy
of admiration, but full of danger. The underlying philosophy of Frost's poetry is rooted in traditional New England individualism, and his work
shows his strong empathy for the values of early American society (Encarta,1). I have chosen to analyze Frost's two poems "The Road Not Taken"
and "Neither Out Far Nor In Deep." I chose these particular selections because of their vast differences in form and meaning. Each of these works
represents a completely different outlook of Frost about life issues, and were written approximately twenty years apart. So many of Frost's poems
describe relatively ordinary scenes or events that raise issues about the meaning of life and then conclude by suggesting a positive answer, such as
"The Road Not Taken" does. However, "Neither Out Far Nor In Deep" represents the opposite end of the spectrum, dealing with the harsh questions
of life, but offering no consolation or conclusion. The latter format in Frost's poetry is the rarer of the two among his extensive collections of poems,
and which is the reason I chose one of each type. "The Road Not Taken" is one ofRobert Frost's most familiar and most popular poems. It is author
Terri Andrews' belief that the popularity of the poem is largely a result of the simplicity of its symbolism: The speaker must choose between different

The Figure A Poem Makes By Robert Lee Frost

One of the significant features of Frost's poetry is its dramatic quality. Poems like 'Home Burial', 'The Death of the Hired man' and 'West Running

The first theme, the outdoors, is best revealed in his poem "The Road Not Taken." In this poem, Frost uses a fork in a road to describe making
decisions in life. Given the main idea, most likely the poem is referring to Frost's decision to leave farming to follow poetry. Frost uses five lines of
poetry in each verse with similar length. Using the technique of inferring, analysts can conclude that the poem relates to the theme of "perfect"
decision making. It shows that decisions can not always be perfect. Frost uses symbolism and imagery to display a visual representation of a decision.
For example, in lines 1 & 2 Frost uses the fork in the road in a forest as a reference to a decision with two choices. He evaluates each side (trade–offs
in a decision) and chooses a side as in lines 4 & 5. Shortly after, he describes the side he chose. He says the road was "grassy" and that it was "not
worn." This creates not only a mental image but the realization that one side can visually appear better than the other. On line 12, he states that there
are leaves on the ground which we can picture and also believe that it is autumn. From line 16 to 20, he repeats the first stanza. This represents the
reflection of his decision. Although he repeated the first stanza, Frost removed the word yellow, that described the woods, and also said that he chose
the one less traveled, and he did not regret it. "Two roads diverged in a wood, and I– / I took the one less traveled by, / And that has made all the
difference (The Road Not Taken)." Frost does this to show that decision making can be hard, but it is best to evaluate and choose the decision that is
best suitable, not what everyone else chooses. Throughout this poem, Frost tries to bring attention to questionable/uneducated decisions in life and
make the best of them through his tone and word choice. Frost's theme of imperfection can be seen either

Robert Frost The Road Not Taken Response
"The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost also shows the traveler making his own moral decisions. The traveler values perseverance. At the fork in the
road, the traveler takes the less traveled path. The dark, overgrown, and unpredictable path. As he walks along the path, he doesn't lose sight of what
his goal is, and doesn't even consider going back and taking the other path. His mind is set on taking the more challenging path, no matter how hard it
is. "Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back." (FrostThe Road Not Taken) Frost
says, the character in his poem is a representation of his friend Edward Thomas. Robert Frost admires his Welsh friend, because he is known for
making decisions and never looking back on them. Although the traveler had originally wanted to travel down both roads, and hopes someday he
can, he still chooses to pick the path less traveled by. In those lines, this traveler is doubting he would ever get the chance to come back, and pick
between the two roads again, so he is happy and grateful he picked the road that would benefit him, and challenge him the most. Persistence ensures we

In this poem, the character wants to make a choice, break free from societal norms, but many factors are slowing him down. "Though the voices around
you kept shouting their bad advice–– though the whole house began to tremble and you felt the old tug at your ankles. 'Mend my life!' Each voice
cried. But you didn't stop." (Oliver The Journey) These few lines from "The Journey" show breaking free can be difficult. Society will always be
shouting their bad and negative comments, ignore them and be independent. When we want to be different, and choose not to listen to societies
comments, we can expand, and improve

Theme Of Ghost House By Robert Frost
After a lovely dinner party, guests strolled out towards the veranda to adore the sunset. A young woman then asked an elderly man, "Oh, Mr. Frost,
isn't it a lovely sunset?". The elderly man quickly responds in a curt demeanor, "I never discuss business after dinner". Robert Frost, lived from 1874
to 1963, was a poet who wrote magnificent ballads revealing the seemingly simple nature of humans in a complex manner. At the beginning of his
journey,Mr. Frost started his career as an English teacher, later realizing that people needed to know what the world lays out for them as he has had
experience with students and their naivety. He pronounces the similarities between desire and hatred, the effect of the choices humans make, the dreary
emotions of death and much more, so that he could relate to his audience and have his words leave an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Frost applies his compassionate style towards people in his bleak ballad, Ghost House, influentially using the abstruse symbolism and depressing
imagery in order to achieve a desolate tone. As the poem is depressing, the symbolism utilized throughout contributes to the effect as the speaker "
dwell[ed] in a lonely house...and left no trace but the cellar walls, and a cellar in which the daylight falls " The lack of the delight from daylight and
absence of a sound structure of the house symbolizes death, as the area was left in smithereens and ghosts crept the premises, conveys the depressing
tone. Also, the imagery provides a clearer view of the landscape to the readers with the "ruined fences" and "grape–vine shield" that surrounds the
house. The gloomy image of pure destruction displayed is desolate as the vivid image detailed description is an emphasis of the grotesque nature of the
house, just like the emotions we feel when viewing a hideous sight, therefore relaying a melancholy tone. In this particular poem, the techniques Frost
use assist him in creating particular tones, connecting to his sympathetic style as

The Deeper Meaning of Frost's Tuft of Flowers
Robert Lee Frost published his first book of poems entitled A Boy's Will in 1913. From this collection come one of several poems that critics and
anthologists alike highly regard as both lyrical and autobiographical in nature. One such critic, James L. Potter, in his book entitled [The] Robert Frost
Handbook, explains "[that] Frost wore a mask in public much of the time, concealing his personal problems and complexities from his reading and
listening audiences" (Potter 48). Through "The Tuft of Flowers," a kind of lyrical soliloquy, Frost "half–intentionally" reveals his personal views on the
theme of fellowship (Potter 48).
In the first of three transitions the speaker, most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker notes that the butterfly flies as far "as eye could see / (but) on tremulous wing came back to me" (17–18). Here, the butterfly seems to
parallel the thoughts the speaker has about the field and the delight it brought both of them the day before. The reader can infer from this comparison
that Frost, like the butterfly, has enjoyed great beauty, joy, and love at certain times during his life but because the "grass" chokes the beauty in the
field, the good times are beset with feelings of loneliness and grief.
The butterfly eventually turns and leads the speaker to a "tall tuft of flowers beside a brook" (22). The significance of the flowers and the brook
can not be overlooked, because at this place in the poem the mood suddenly swings from pessimism to optimism. It seems that God was trying to
send a message to Frost that the field of life can be filled with beauty and he might not always be alone in his life's work (22). This couplet of the
poem is significant because it gives us a clue to how God reveals to the speaker that, although the field of life appears barren, a brook nourishes the
ground to give life to the beauty he possesses. In addition, through God's infinite wisdom and mercy, Frost's loneliness and grief will someday again
turn back into fellowship and joy.

His style of writing being ordinary made it easier for many people to relate to his work. Frost's works were and still are particularly well liked by
"ordinary" readers because his works are easy to read and, on the surface, easy to understand. In the book A Boy's Will, Frost writes poems of hope and
beauty. "Love and a Question," illustrates the optimistic view of a bridegroom trying to help a poor man. He thinks that he should help him, but not
knowing if he can. His heart shows compassion but his minds shows logic. The conclusion of this poem shows not true ending, but leaves the reader in
a state of imagining what was to happen to the poor man.
Frost's poem, "Nothing Gold Can Stay" is a very easy and brief read, but it provokes the mind to think about the good things in life in a different way.
Upon first reading this poem, it seems like Frost is just writing about how nature's beauty is always changing. If looked into more, though, it can be
interpreted as relating to life. Frost used nature's constant shift in seasons as a symbol that nothing good in life will stay forever. This poem was his
advices to his readers, letting those who cling to things know that nothing is permanent and that they have to learn to adjust to the variety of events that
could happen. The

Robert Frost Poetry Analysis
"The Road Not Taken" and "Nothing Gold Can Stay" are just two of many very famous poems, written by none other than Robert Frost. Robert Frost
is a poet that is well known for his poetic contributions to nature, as well as his award winning poems. His poetic ability and knowledge make him an
extraordinary author. His past; including schooling, family, and the era in which he wrote influenced nearly all of his poems in some way. This very
famous poet contributed to the modernism era, had a family and an interesting life story, and a unique poetic style as well.
The literary era in which Robert Frost wrote was the modernism era. This era was a time when poets, and artists in general, were starting to rebel
against the "normal" way to write poetry, or perform arts. The poetic term for this is known as a poetic license. In Robert Frost's "The Rose Family", he
writes:
And now the theory goes,
The apple's a rose,
And the pear is, and so's
The plum, I suppose (quotations.about.com).
The style of this line, as well as the remainder of the poem, represents poetic license. Also, in the use of the word theory, Frost shows his abstract idea
on the "theory" of beauty, which is also looked at as connotation or a metaphor. This greatly contibutes to the modernism era, because it shows the
unique structure of the ideas and poetic devises being created throughout this time period. Another poem that Frost portrays his modern era in is the
poem "The Oven Bird".:

dominating throughout the story, Jack London was successful in portraying his protagonist Tom Vincent with all positive and negative qualities.
The character's positive qualities were revealed from the beginning of the story. In the first page, readers can easily perceive that Tom Vincent... Show

The fire went out. Again, he ran, in his most terrible panic, but the only thing he could find was an empty shelter of moose–hunters. This time, he felt
so badly frightened that he sank down and sobbed, nearly accepting that everything was over. When all the doors seemed to be closed, his love of life
burned strongly than ever. He "sprang again to his feet", thinking quickly, and found out a way to save his life– burning his hands to regain their
sense. He set his teeth to bear the pain caused by the fire licking his flesh. Apparently, that he writhed around with the torment, yet held on the fire, was
the greatest evidence of his tough survival instinct. The heroic measure and the amazing bravery to act over the extremity saved him from death.
Through Tom Vincent's continuous attempts to build a fire, readers can see clearly the character's durability and iron will. Despite the severe hardship,
he made great efforts; despite the great efforts, he made continuous failures; despite the continuous failures, he always gave himself another opportunity
to survive.
Beside the positive qualities, readers could see the presence of negative traits in the character's personality, which brought him very close to death. Tom
Vincent was exposed as an overconfident, subjective and arrogant young man. Ignoring the precept of the north, "Never travel alone", Tom, by himself,

Robert Frost Fear Of Death
Fear. Death. Responsibilities. A man advanced in his years, writes simply enough to explain his view to the whole world. After Frost's death, people
figured, from his writings, that he was afraid of dying. Giving up all of his responsibilities and meeting God up above. While aging, he lost his
creativity he had and wrote about his fear of death and how the spark of imagination fled his mind (Greiner, Donald J. "Robert Frost."). Known for his
oft–quoted poetry and four Pulitzer prizes, Robert Frost, born in 1874, wrote poetry about winter. Numerous people know him for his poetry, praised
his work, but others frowned upon it. He used vivid imagery and dramatized tension in his poetry; it is what made the poems so powerful, yet so simple.

Robert Frost's Poetry
"In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on" (Robert Frost). March, 1874. The United States of America continues to
recover from the effects of the Civil War. The Reconstruction Era is in full swing and segregation is at a new high point. The Chinese were being
discriminated throughout California throughout the 1870s. In 1882, due to the high rate of Chinese immigrants, the Chinese Exclusion Act was passed
by Congress. This act meant that no Chinese immigrant could enter the United States for a period of ten years. At the beginning of the new century,
the first World War began. As a result of World War One, art began to evolve. Publishers across the globe documented about The Great War and gave

Frost, By Robert Lee Frost
As Robert Lee Frost, an honored American poet once said, "A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness."
Frost earned respect through his expertise in colloquial language, and his descriptive interpretations of rural life. Frost often analyzed social and
philosophical leitmotifs using settings from early twenty–first century New England. Frost was honored in his lifetime with four Pulitzers.
Furthermore, focusing mostly on analyzing Frost's most popular works, whilst taking you through his life, and the events that shaped his poems, To
begin, Robert Lee Frost was born on March 26, 1874, in San Francisco, where his parents relocated shortly after marrying. At eleven years old, Frost's
father died from tuberculosis, and shortly after Frost, his sister, and his mother moved to Massachusetts. Frost became interested in literature and poetry
during his high school years at Lawrence High School, where he would graduate co–valedictorian, with the woman he would later marry. In the fall of
1892, Frost enrolled in Dartmouth College, only to return home after one semester to work various jobs. In 1984, Frost would publish his first poem,
"My Butterfly: An Elegy." As his first poem, "My Butterfly: An Elegy" truly displays Frost's true natural talent. The poem portrays the loss of life
through the form of a passing of a butterfly, compared complexly to its surroundings, including Frost himself. Reminiscing to a moment when he

How Did Robert Frost Influence Society

  • 1. How Did Robert Frost Influence Society Influences of Robert Frost Have you ever been influenced by something? Many people get influenced everyday single day. It might not be something big but they get influenced it. Some people are influenced by things as small as babies. It doesn't have to be big or even living to influence you. All it takes is a little tiny thing to influence you. Robert Frost discovered that. The Reason that is because many things influenced Frost's writings. Frost did not always live in New England. Before he was born his dad lived in Maine and New Hampshire but he hated New England due to the Civil War. His family moved to San Francisco where he was born. The reason they ended up back in New England was because his dad had passed away. They unfortunately lacked funds Robert Frost (Portrait of Robert Frost) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While in San Francisco Frost was not really a good student but whence he moved to Salem he turned that around and became a serious student. For a while he attended Dartmouth College until he met Eleanor White his future wife. When they got engaged he dropped out of Dartmouth. At that time is when he started writing more and more poetry looking for a job. He would write about things that he had came upon. So in a way by having Frost drop of college it made it so we would get to see how good of a writer he really was. (Robert Lee Frost) The era that Robert Frost wrote in is the contemporary era. The contemporary era started in 1945 and is still currently being used. The reason that Frost is considered to be in the contemporary era is because the definition of it is happening in the present and that is how he wrote most if not all of his poems. He wrote about the things going on around him. Somethings he would write about are Nature and world events. He truly wrote about things that just happen to him throughout life. (Robert Lee ... Even from an early age Frost was extremely intelligent even skipping grades and finishing at the top of his high school class (Fagan). After graduating high school, Frost was discouraged to begin writing because he thought that it would take twenty years to set up a writing career (Fagan). After finally beginning his career, Frost loved writing and used it to express himself and found his greatest muses in his wife and children (Fagan). Robert Lee Frost was born on March 26, 1874 in San Francisco, California (Fagan). One of the biggest influences in his life was Robert Frost's father, Will Frost, ... • 3. Poetry Analysis: Mending Wall Essay "Mending Wall" by Robert Frost, the fifty–six line lyric poem gives off a sarcastic tone that expresses impatience with his neighbor and the "wall." The poem focuses on a theme of separation, the necessity of boundaries and the illusory arguments used to annihilate them. Frost uses the phrase "Mending Wall" to show that the relationship between the narrator and the neighbor is not being repaired. The poem focuses on two men who meet amongst a wall to stroll and make repairs. The narrator feels that the wall shouldn't be there. He states that, "...We do not need the wall: He is all pine and I am apple orchard, my apples will never get across.(Frost) On the other hand, the neighbor feels that the wall is needed and simply states that, "... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With that, a regional spirit of racism and bigotry is felt from the neighbor. The speaker scorns his neighbor's wall building antics, but has no choice but to settle with them. Ironically though, the speaker is way more involved and indulged with the annual repairing of the wall more so than the neighbor. The speaker tends to "bug" the neighbor about the wall in a way and comes off very clingy. He seems very excited about repairing a wall that he despises. The speaker sets the day they will repair on the wall together and also informs. Regardless of the, dubious attitude that the speaker gives off, it seems that he is more tied to the mending–wall tradition, more than the neighbor. The speaker comes off more of a modern man, while the neighbor is stuck in ancient, with building a "wall". However, the speaker is no different from the neighbor; he likes his privacy and his sense of ownership. Blank verse is used in the poem along with basic, conversational words. There are no rhymes schemes used neither are there any end rhymes. Ultimately, the existence of the wall keeps the individuality of the two neighbors in tact; one being a pine tree and the other being an apple. From reading the poem and some of Robert's Frost other works, he shapes his work by the "landscape of his native New England and by the fusion of colloquial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Poetry of Robert Lee Frost "Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words," Robert Frost once said. As is made fairly obvious by this quote, Frost was an adroit thinker. It seems like he spent much of his life thinking about the little things. He often pondered the meaning and symbolism of things he found in nature. Many readers find Robert Frost's poems to be straightforward, yet his work contains deeper layers of complexity beneath the surface. These deeper layers of complexity can be clearly seen in his poems " The Road Not Taken", "Fire and Ice", and "Birches". Robert Lee Frost was born on March 26, 1874 in San Francisco. When his father died, he moved to Massachusetts with his family to be closer to his grandparents. He loved to stay active through sports and activities such as trapping animals and climbing trees. He married his co– valedictorian, Elinor Miriam White, in 1895. He dropped out of both Dartmouth and Harvard in his lifetime. Robert and Elinor settled on a farm in Massachusetts which his grandfather bought him, and it was one of the many farms on which he would live in throughout his life. Frost spend the next 9 years writing poetry while poultry farming. When poultry farming didn't work out, he went back to teaching English. He moved to England in 1912 and became friends with many people who were also in the writing business. After moving back to America in 1915, Frost bought a farm in New Hampshire and began reading his poems aloud at public ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Road Not Taken And Acquainted With The Night Journeys, whether physical, spiritual or emotional are a complex concept to fully understand. Often these types of journeys are intertwined together and are employed by poets in their poems to provoke readers into new understandings of themselves and others. These notions are explored through Robert Frost's poems "The Road Not Taken", "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" and "Acquainted With The Night". Robert Lee Frost (March 26, 1874 – January 29, 1963) was an American Pulitzer Prize winning poet. The traveller finds himself on a fork in the road and wishes that he could travel both. This being physically and figuratively a non–possibility, is recognised by the traveller and the idea is immediately rejected. The slight contradiction can be noted in the second stanza when one road is described as "grassy and wanted wear" and soon after the traveller conveys that the two roads are worn in almost the same manner. In the second stanza, Robert Frost utilises personification giving the road human characteristics. The "wanted wear" is a distinctively human characteristic and consequently personifies the path, giving it desires. This is purposefully done as the path itself embodies the act of making a choice which is also uniquely human. Frost builds on the/enhances the imagery created in this poem in the third stanza and the traveller distinguishes that the leaves on both roads fell recently and had not been marched upon and suggests that he should return and take the first road another time. The traveller is not sure whether he would be able to accomplish this desire as he comes to a realisation that life is quite short and as the decision he made would lead to other choices and ... • 8. Road Not Taken Explication The Road Not Taken Robert Frost's poem, "The Road Not Taken", dramatizes the conflict between people and the choices they encounters throughout their life. During the poem's introduction, the speaker stands at a fork in the road contemplating which path to choose. He ultimately travels "the better claim"(Frost 7) stating he will return to travel the other another day, though realistically doubting he will ever have to opportunity to do so. Yet if the traveler returns, he will do so with a twist: he will claim to have taken the road less traveled. The speaker understands both roads are equally worn. However, this choice is an extended metaphor for any life–altering decisions one must make in their life. According to Frost, God has played a joke on him and he says, "Forgive, O Lord, my little jokes on thee, and I'll forgive thy great big joke on me" (C. 5). Frost graduated from a school in Lawrence in 1892. He did have some college, but he eventually dropped out. He later married Elinor White in 1895 soon after his work My Butterfly: An Elegy was published. They had five children together. I picked Robert Frost because of how he expressed life's choices in The Road Not Taken. I also picked him because I have been reading his poems since I was a child along with poems by Shel Silverstein. Frost's key theme is human decision making. In his experience, most people choose the easiest choice they can. The easy road he speaks of is, "grassy and wanted wear" (8). While, the harder, more difficult road is the opposite in appearance, many people do not choose this road. • 10. Summary Of Robert Lee Frost Name Professor Course Date Poetry Analysis Essay Robert Lee Frost was an American, highly regarded for his realistic depictions of rural life and his command of American colloquial speech (Bloom 10). In his poems, he employs several stylistic devices that give the poem a good flow. Frost's poems, Birches and Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening, share certain stylistic elements such as he uses rhetoric questions, repetition, alliteration, symbolism, and imagery. In Birches, a rhetoric question is apparent where he asks, "whose words these are I think now?" Also, in Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening, he asks, "now am I free to be poetical?" (Frost) In essence, the use of particular stylistic devices and themes set the pace, and the mood of the poems and they communicate Frost's message in an appealingly and comprehensively to the reader. In poem Birches, there is the use of alliteration in the last words of the fifth and sixth stanza where he states, "he gives his harness bells a shake" (Frost). Alliteration refers to the repetition of the first letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words (Bloom 37). As seen above, there is a repetition of the consonant 'h.' The repetition of the same sounds at the beginning of a series of words creates an interesting rhythm that sets the pace of the poem. Frost also uses alliteration Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening to set the pace and create the mood of the poem. The consonant "h" creates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For instance, in "Home Burial", Robert Frost describes two terrible events; the death of a child and the destruction of a marriage. The death of the child is tragic, but inability of the husband and wife to communicate with each other and express their grief about the loss is what ultimately destroys their marriage. Robert Frost highlights this inability to communicate by writing the poem in free verse dialogue; each character speaks clearly to the reader, but neither is able to understand the other. He uses words that most people can understand, this also makes his poetry seem practical and ordinary. Frost writes his sentences with meter and rhythm to enhance their exquisiteness. • 13. Robert Lee Frost Analysis Robert Lee Frost was conceived in San Francisco, March 26. He was one of America's premier twentieth century writers and won the Pulitzer Prize four times. In spite of the fact that his verse shapes are old–style, he was an innovator in the interaction of meter and rhyme and in the wonderful utilization of the vocabulary and emphases of how everybody speaks today. His work is full of nature and is very touching. Two of Robert Lee Frosts supreme and popular poems that I will be working with are "The Road Not Taken" and "Stopping by Woods on A Snowy Evening". In the poems "Road not taken" and "Stopping by woods on a snowy evening" Robert Frost explains that both depict how to take choices in life a circumstance where he needs to pick between two ways in that will affect his life forever. In "The Road Not Taken" the writer in the sonnet is voyaging and comes at the spot from where the road is isolated into two. Here he needs to choose which way he needs to go for eventual fate of his life. The goals of both pathways are obscure. Yet, the poet needs to pick one of them as he can't choose both roads at once. Utilizing "yellow wood" (line 1) as a representative signal to seniority moving toward quick, his definitive decision will endure for what he will have to live with for the rest of his life. Moving toward older age comes with the acknowledgment of the truth, it's an ideal opportunity to say goodbye to dreams and expectations. "Then took the other, as just as fair and having perhaps the better claim" (line 6–7). The poet appears to be indecisive here. But, he has settled on a choice, he is still constantly thinking about it. On the outline, both roads strike as comparative, with no apparent difference. As a result, his absence of activity and uncertainty causes him enormous distress and delay. "Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back" (line 14–15). The poet endeavors to persuade himself with little achievement, verging on daydreaming. He induces himself that if one road ends up being unsatisfactory, he would have the capacity to offer reparation and pick the other road. In any case, looking back, he's completely mindful that his decision will impact him in his later years ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Road Not Taken and Neither Out Far Nor in Deep by Robert Frost Robert Lee Frost is an American poet who is known for his verse concerning nature and New England life. He was born in San Francisco in 1874. When his father died in 1885, his mother moved the family to Lawrence, Massachusetts. Frost attended college sporadically after graduating high school and made a living by working as a bobbin boy in a wool mill, a shoemaker, a country schoolteacher, editor of a rural newspaper, and a farmer. Much of his poetry is concerned with the interaction between humans and nature. Frost regarded nature as a beautiful but dangerous force, worthy of admiration, but full of danger. The underlying philosophy of Frost's poetry is rooted in traditional New England individualism, and his work shows his strong empathy for the values of early American society (Encarta,1). I have chosen to analyze Frost's two poems "The Road Not Taken" and "Neither Out Far Nor In Deep." I chose these particular selections because of their vast differences in form and meaning. Each of these works represents a completely different outlook of Frost about life issues, and were written approximately twenty years apart. So many of Frost's poems describe relatively ordinary scenes or events that raise issues about the meaning of life and then conclude by suggesting a positive answer, such as "The Road Not Taken" does. However, "Neither Out Far Nor In Deep" represents the opposite end of the spectrum, dealing with the harsh questions of life, but offering no consolation or conclusion. The latter format in Frost's poetry is the rarer of the two among his extensive collections of poems, and which is the reason I chose one of each type. "The Road Not Taken" is one ofRobert Frost's most familiar and most popular poems. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first theme, the outdoors, is best revealed in his poem "The Road Not Taken." In this poem, Frost uses a fork in a road to describe making decisions in life. Given the main idea, most likely the poem is referring to Frost's decision to leave farming to follow poetry. Frost uses five lines of poetry in each verse with similar length. Using the technique of inferring, analysts can conclude that the poem relates to the theme of "perfect" decision making. It shows that decisions can not always be perfect. Frost uses symbolism and imagery to display a visual representation of a decision. For example, in lines 1 & 2 Frost uses the fork in the road in a forest as a reference to a decision with two choices. He evaluates each side (trade–offs in a decision) and chooses a side as in lines 4 & 5. Shortly after, he describes the side he chose. He says the road was "grassy" and that it was "not worn." This creates not only a mental image but the realization that one side can visually appear better than the other. On line 12, he states that there are leaves on the ground which we can picture and also believe that it is autumn. From line 16 to 20, he repeats the first stanza. This represents the reflection of his decision. Although he repeated the first stanza, Frost removed the word yellow, that described the woods, and also said that he chose the one less traveled, and he did not regret it. "Two roads diverged in a wood, and I– / I took the one less traveled by, / And that has made all the difference (The Road Not Taken)." Frost does this to show that decision making can be hard, but it is best to evaluate and choose the decision that is best suitable, not what everyone else chooses. Throughout this poem, Frost tries to bring attention to questionable/uneducated decisions in life and make the best of them through his tone and word choice. At the beginning of his journey,Mr. Frost started his career as an English teacher, later realizing that people needed to know what the world lays out for them as he has had experience with students and their naivety. He pronounces the similarities between desire and hatred, the effect of the choices humans make, the dreary emotions of death and much more, so that he could relate to his audience and have his words leave an... Frost applies his compassionate style towards people in his bleak ballad, Ghost House, influentially using the abstruse symbolism and depressing imagery in order to achieve a desolate tone. As the poem is depressing, the symbolism utilized throughout contributes to the effect as the speaker " dwell[ed] in a lonely house...and left no trace but the cellar walls, and a cellar in which the daylight falls " The lack of the delight from daylight and absence of a sound structure of the house symbolizes death, as the area was left in smithereens and ghosts crept the premises, conveys the depressing tone. Also, the imagery provides a clearer view of the landscape to the readers with the "ruined fences" and "grape–vine shield" that surrounds the house. The gloomy image of pure destruction displayed is desolate as the vivid image detailed description is an emphasis of the grotesque nature of the house, just like the emotions we feel when viewing a hideous sight, therefore relaying a melancholy tone. From this collection come one of several poems that critics and anthologists alike highly regard as both lyrical and autobiographical in nature. One such critic, James L. Potter, in his book entitled [The] Robert Frost Handbook, explains "[that] Frost wore a mask in public much of the time, concealing his personal problems and complexities from his reading and listening audiences" (Potter 48). Through "The Tuft of Flowers," a kind of lyrical soliloquy, Frost "half–intentionally" reveals his personal views on the theme of fellowship (Potter 48). The speaker notes that the butterfly flies as far "as eye could see / (but) on tremulous wing came back to me" (17–18). Here, the butterfly seems to parallel the thoughts the speaker has about the field and the delight it brought both of them the day before. The reader can infer from this comparison that Frost, like the butterfly, has enjoyed great beauty, joy, and love at certain times during his life but because the "grass" chokes the beauty in the field, the good times are beset with feelings of loneliness and grief. The butterfly eventually turns and leads the speaker to a "tall tuft of flowers beside a brook" (22). The significance of the flowers and the brook can not be overlooked, because at this place in the poem the mood suddenly swings from pessimism to optimism. It seems that God was trying to send a message to Frost that the field of life can be filled with beauty and he might not always be alone in his life's work (22). This couplet of the poem is significant because it gives us a clue to how God reveals to the speaker that, although the field of life appears barren, a brook nourishes the ground to give life to the beauty he possesses. In addition, through God's infinite wisdom and mercy, Frost's loneliness and grief will someday again turn back into fellowship and joy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His style of writing being ordinary made it easier for many people to relate to his work. Frost's works were and still are particularly well liked by "ordinary" readers because his works are easy to read and, on the surface, easy to understand. In the book A Boy's Will, Frost writes poems of hope and beauty. "Love and a Question," illustrates the optimistic view of a bridegroom trying to help a poor man. He thinks that he should help him, but not knowing if he can. His heart shows compassion but his minds shows logic. The conclusion of this poem shows not true ending, but leaves the reader in a state of imagining what was to happen to the poor man. Frost's poem, "Nothing Gold Can Stay" is a very easy and brief read, but it provokes the mind to think about the good things in life in a different way. Upon first reading this poem, it seems like Frost is just writing about how nature's beauty is always changing. If looked into more, though, it can be interpreted as relating to life. Frost used nature's constant shift in seasons as a symbol that nothing good in life will stay forever. This poem was his advices to his readers, letting those who cling to things know that nothing is permanent and that they have to learn to adjust to the variety of events that could happen. The ... Robert Frost is a poet that is well known for his poetic contributions to nature, as well as his award winning poems. His poetic ability and knowledge make him an extraordinary author. His past; including schooling, family, and the era in which he wrote influenced nearly all of his poems in some way. This very famous poet contributed to the modernism era, had a family and an interesting life story, and a unique poetic style as well. The literary era in which Robert Frost wrote was the modernism era. This era was a time when poets, and artists in general, were starting to rebel against the "normal" way to write poetry, or perform arts. The poetic term for this is known as a poetic license. In Robert Frost's "The Rose Family", he writes: And now the theory goes, The apple's a rose, And the pear is, and so's The plum, I suppose (quotations.about.com). The style of this line, as well as the remainder of the poem, represents poetic license. Also, in the use of the word theory, Frost shows his abstract idea on the "theory" of beauty, which is also looked at as connotation or a metaphor. This greatly contibutes to the modernism era, because it shows the unique structure of the ideas and poetic devises being created throughout this time period.
