What I Learned In School
I have learned many things in school. I will like to tell about how I learned in school. I have
improved my reading and writing in school. When I was little we're learned the basic word in
school. The teacher taught the students how to pronoun the words. I don't understand the teacher talk
to me when I first come to unite state. I went to school when I come here I remember the teacher but
I don't know her name she always followed me in school. She taught me how to reading. I improved
my reading how to pronoun the word. I have learned what I was supposed to learn in school. I have
learned many new things. In school, I have learned how to read, annotate a story, brainstorm ideas
and ask myself question. I learned how to annotate a story. Mrs.Fucdock was always tell the student
how to annotating. She also gave the grade for annotating. I'm improved how to annotating in her
class. Annotating involves highlighting or preferably underlining key points. I take notes and write
down the important vocabulary or important dates. I circle the main idea. After I look up the
dictionary to understand the meaning. Many people take notes as they read to annotate a story. I can
add my own words to understand a story. I can mark that I don't understand the sentence. There's no
one right way to annotate. I have to understand the story when I read. When I read the story I need
to have a pencil and highlight. I have to look up the quotes when someone says something
important. I underline the

Study Skills Essay
STUDY SKILL SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN ELMENTARY SCHOOL The reason that most people
High School don't have good study skills is because they were not taught proper study habits in
Elementary School, where this should be taught. To achieve good grades in high school a person
must be disciplined in their study habits. Once a person reaches high school these habits must be
ingrained into the personality of the young person so that they are second nature or it is to late. Part
of the Elementary school teaching there must be a course that teaches children as young as grade 1
or 2 how to do homework. This has to include how to break down a project into manageable pieces
so that a child will know how to meet deadlines for major projects once ... Show more content on

5.     Here are 6points to keep in mind when taking notes.
a.     No one can write everything down so don't try.
b.     Concentrate on the main ideas, content and information.
c.     Try short hand for word – remember no one has to be able to
read these notes but you so come up with short spelling for words that you will be able to read later.
d.     Listen to the teacher then summarize in your own words
e.     Take notes I point form not full sentences more like an outline
form. f.     Underline main topics
6.     If you have trouble taking notes bring a tape recorder to class
then you can play the recording back and take notes later when you are at home and it is quiet. Then
you will be able to stop the recorder and take our notes without feeling rushed.
7.     After Class is over. Take a few minutes to go over your notes
and refresh in your mind what points you need more clarification on and get it before you forget.
8.     Underline or highlight the main topics and points.
9.     Make sure you know why you were attending the lecture and
what the assignment is to complete it with the notes. Keeping these note taking skills in mind, it will

Bone Diggers: Mind Maps
What did I do?
I watched the 50min clip on youtube name Bone Diggers. I was collecting notes by using the new
strategy called mind maps. By using Mind Maps, you can quickly identify and understand the
structure of a subject.
How do I think/feel about this?
I thought that mind map was a very useful way to colect notes from the video because it puts the
information in order. If the information is in order you can easily go back to the bits which you are
intrested in.
What did I think about but not say (or what did I want to say but did not)
At the start I thought that using mind map is a waste of time. So I used the normal way of taking
notes however when the teacher told me the uses of mind map I actually changed my strategy of
taking notes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a better way because you will understand more about the topic you are researching by putting
your information in order.
What have I learn about myself?
Some of problems that I need to fix is stop getting distracting by other students. I should always
focus on my study. By learning new techniques of doing study will definitely help me in future.
How have I put any theory into practice?
I haven't put any theory because I am learning a new way of collecting notes.
How does what I have been doing lead to me becoming better at a skill
By listening to the teacher and understanding what is teacher asking me to do, helped me to become
a better learner. This is the way I used to get better on collecting notes.
How can I use this to plan for the future?
These type of skills will assist me in my future life because it is a great way to study.
(How) can I use this to plan new learning experiences? My new learning plan that don't get
distracted from other students, focus on every single topic in the class and complete my work on
time. Learning new strategy which teacher's are showing in class will make me a better worker. This
plan will make me a hard worker and from this I will able to complete anytype of work which is

Manipulating Mind-Mapping Software to Develop Essay Writing
Introduction Human race has always had an instinct to express their needs, feelings, and emotions in
written forms as well as oral ones. Calkins (1989, p. 3) illustrates that human beings have a deep
need to represent their experiences through writing. He mentions that ancient people were fond of
writing stories, events, habits, or situations related to them on the walls of caves and temples. It
could be said that it is a natural human desire and tendency toward drawing shapes and lines on
some material's surfaces. One can observe that young children are driven to leave written marks
with pens, pencils, markers, pieces of coal, or even lipsticks on walls, furniture, or bathrooms.
Academically speaking, writing is one of the four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whereas the product–based approach deals with writing correct kinds of paragraphs and texts, the
process–based approach concentrates on the communicativeness of the written texts. Moreover, the
process–based approach is a learner–centered, rather than a language–centered mode. The process of
second/foreign language writing, as well as writing in the native language, involves three distinct
stages followed by foreign language writers: (a) pre–writing, rehearsing, or the write–based phase,
in which the ideas are gathered and generated; (b) drafting, or product–based phase in which the
writer composes structures, and reconstructs ideas and (c) revision, or the reader–phase of revision
(Leeds, 1996; Richards,1992; Scholes and Comley, 1989). Efforts done for the sake of developing
the writing skill/sub–skills serve these three phases. Mind–mapping is located in the first pre–
writing phase, where the students are given an opportunity to generate, gather, and arrange ideas
related to a given essay (Scarcella & Oxford, 1992). A mind map is a graphic organizer in which
major categories radiate from a central idea, and sub–categories are represented as branches of
larger branches. According to Buzan (2000) and Howitt (2009) a mind map is a visual tool that can
be used to generate ideas, take notes, organize thinking and develop concepts. The British Council

Study Skills and Infomation Literacy for Students
Excellent study skills and information literacy are essential for the successful path of education in
every student's life. Nowadays, students face more challenges in their daily tasks and duty due to the
accelerating progress of information, communication and technology. They have step their feet into
the zone of competition among others to obtain outstanding achievements in each thing they
perform. So, how are they going to ensure if they could acquire these meets and criteria to express
themselves as great achievers? Therefore, it is crucial for them to adapt and practice these study
skills and information literacy in their life.

"Information is, in fact, our most precious resource. In such a world, education should empower
everyone, not the few. But for information to become knowledge, and ultimately, one hopes,
wisdom, it must be organized. In this new climate, the public interest challenge, beyond access and
equity is sorting and selection" (Boyer, 1997, p. 140). We are outfitting our schools, libraries, and
homes with electronic technologies. But are we preparing students for the onslaught of information
that is provided by these technologies. What happens when students get more information from the
internet and than previously conveyed by their teachers or textbooks? What should a student do
when faced with so many informational possibilities? This is where information literacy establishes
it's important thus, they need to understand and differentiate between types of information. They
must define the need of the information and relating it to knowledge. These are all the
implementation of information literacy which benefits students during their study time.
Furthermore, they will not be panic once get an abundant supply of information, because they are

Mind Map Analysis
I found this activity very interesting because it was more creative than some of our other discussion
board assignments. The mind map expanded significantly just from one idea, which shows the
strength of the word "Terrorism" and the problems that have occurred because of it. It was
interesting to see a collective train of thought amongst many people. I noticed that a lot of people
mentioned the countless shootings that have been reported recently in the news. While there were
many shootings before this school year, I thought of Parkland while looking at the mind map. One
of my classmates graduated from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and is friends with many
of the older siblings of the students that died in the shooting. His mother also works at the school,
and while she survived without any injuries, it must be terrifying knowing that she was there. This
was unfortunately the first time I had a connection to a school shooting – I could not imagine the
stress and fear that my peer must have endured. I also saw a bubble with "KKK" written inside of it.
This stood out to me because I go to school in Charlottesville, which is now famously known ...

A bubble that stood out to me was "Middle East." While many people may think of the Middle East
when the word terrorism is in mind, it puts a negative connotation on the entire region. This goes for
other places that have had shootings and traumatic events. No one will ever hear the words
Columbine, Parkland or Charlottesville without thinking about violence and crime. Going back to
the events in Charlottesville, the riots made it slightly difficult to go back to school. I had already
completed one year of school and had an overall positive opinion of the city. The current reputation
is racist and violent; while I don't agree with this, it has made me question where I am, if I am safe,
and what kind of people are around

Study Habits Are A Vital Predictor For Academic Performance
Study habits are a vital predictor for academic performance in students. Study habits are defined as a
student's pre–examination actions to improve learning and performance. Some constructive habits
include: reading and taking notes, preparing for examinations prior to the week of the examination,
choosing the best fit environment, having a positive attitude, and an underlying motivation.
Research studies have shown that personality has an influence on study skills (Crede & Kuncel,
2016). Study habits vary for individuals based on timing of their studying, course level, major,
settings and resources (Hora & Oleson, 2017). An appropriate learning style is important in

These findings support that appropriate study habits are consequential to academic performance
(Kleijn, van der Ploeg, & Topman, 1994). Hora and Oleson (2017) conducted two surveys in 2017
called the Your First College Year Survey and the College Senior Year Survey. These surveys
recorded that there was a decline in the amount of time that students spend studying and doing
homework; students spend ten hour or less compared to fourteen hours in 2003 (Babcock & Marks,
2010). They also found that studying is self–regulated, but it is highly shaped by the course design
and how it is taught (Hora & Oleson, 2017). Students who are more motivated and believed in their
abilities are more likely to possess appropriate study habits and perform better academically. Using
a correlational study, Pintrich and De Groot recorded that self–regulation had a significantly positive
relationship to academic performance with an r value of .83. 173 seventh and eighth grades from a
science class self–reported self–efficacy, self–regulation and academic performance. Academic
performance data was recorded using grades from class assignments. These findings support the
idea that having a good study habit correlates with increased academic performance (Pintrich & De
Groot, 1990). A causal study done by Crede and Kuncel (2016) showed that study habits have a
strong relation to academic performance. Researchers used the Survey of Study Habits and Attitudes

Suppressed Darkness On The Medieval Mind Map
Suppressed Darkness on the Medieval Mind Map
William Manchester's A World Lit Only By Fire: The Medieval Mind and the Renaissance unveils
an in– depth look at the Late Medieval Ages in Europe and touches upon the Renaissance. It is most
well known as the time period that occurred after the fall of the Roman Empire– when the eastern
world seemed to have plummeted into an age of regression and darkness. Manchester's central
proposition was "The power of the medieval mind had been irrevocably broken" (295). The
dimensions of the medieval mind were cloaked from the outside world and suppressed by the ever–
powerful dogmas of the Catholic Church, for there "was no room for doubt; the possibility of
skepticism simply did not exist" (20). At the same time, a new "era" was rising in Europe,
accompanied by an increasing rate in literacy, new innovations, the printing press, powerful political
figures, and the appraisals of the Catholic Church. A new cultural movement began to appear,
known as the Renaissance, and the darkness of the medieval mind map was forever shattered, to
remain a pale illusion. Humanists, such as Sir Thomas More and Desiderius Erasmus, and inventors
and explorers such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Nicolas Copernicus, and Ferdinand Magellan guided the
way to a new ideology of independent thinking. Following the campaign of upcoming thinkers,
movements, and changes that would turn people's blind eye, Manchester concluded his point with
the tale of Magellan's heroic

Most college students are piled with difficult work each week. Collection of assignments, are stack
carefully on the students desk ready to be completed. Let alone, a history professor later mentions
that a test will be assigned in less than two days. The test makes a college student drown in
caffeine;therefore, canceling all his plans due to planning a long marathon of studying. But luck has
come along and studies of straight A's students have shown effective ways to study for a test, which
includes the steps of taking effective notes, finding a place to study, and reviewing for a test for an

Not only will finding a quiet place will help a student study, but finding different study places can
keep a student's mind from burning out. Cal Newport interview a college student who explain that
switching from study places can keep a student's mind from procrastinating. Doris a Harvard student
endorse the idea, "to keep my mind stimulated, I regularly rotate between different venues" (qtd. in
How to Become a Straight –A Student, 54). While changing places to study can make a college
learner keep his mind from burning out. For example, if a student sits in the same chair and works
for hours seeing the same thing, "a little procrastination devil," as Newport describes, will lay on the
students shoulder making he or she leave without doing any work. Particularly, study at a distant
place. Newport, suggests getting drop off at a place far from home to study can benefit a student
from leaving or getting distracted from friends or electronics. Newport suggests, "[i]t helps if your
location is farther than walking distance from campus [...] arrange to be dropped off and picked up
later, or choose a location that takes a while to reach by foot so you won't be tempted to leave right
away"(46). This method, helps students avoid procrastinating. While being away from a students
home can isolate a student from his electronics and friends. In the end, finding the right place

Early Church Mind Map
There are four parts in my mind map and every part represents different mark of the early Church
which I want the reader comes away with. In other words, my mind map focus on the illustrations of
early Church's four marks. Early Church has four marks: One, Holy, Catholic and apostolic. Those
marks indicated four major distinctive marks or distinguishing characteristics of the Christian
Church. For example, although people built thousands of churches around the world, there is still
only "one" Church for the Christian religion. As the description of "Body of Christ" in the model of
Church, Church is basically the union of Jesus' followers and believers, though many, still one
organism with Jesus Christ. And the mark "One" leads to the essential ... Show more content on

For the contagion of this superstition has spread not only to the cities but also to the villages and
farms"(Letters between Trajan and Pliny the Younger). Jesus told His apostles to go throughout the
world and make disciples of "all nations" (Matthew 28:19~20) as the gift from Jesus which could
provide people a way to purify their soul and save them from the sins. As a result, various people are
making the connection with the Church for their religion beliefs and appreciation to Jesus. And the
Church is still processing missionaries to "make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19). In
addition, it would be very hard for the Church to accomplish the universal without the essential
mark "Apostolic". After Jesus established the Church, He appointed His Apostles who succeed
Jesus' thought as the leader of the Church. They communicated with disciples around the world for
Jesus, and help them to connect the Holy Church. The Didache is a perfect fact to express that idea.

Why Students Must Use Their Creativity
Having a creative nature is one of the main components corporations are looking for in employees.
The ability to think outside of the box and be innovative with solutions is at the forefront of product
development and growing businesses. All students are capable of being ingenious but it needs to be
developed (Costa and Kallick, 2008). Teachers must use as many opportunities as possible to allow
students to tap into their imagination, using their creative nature when the task requires it (Laureate,
1996e). Lessons should be designed that push students to devise solutions to problems in a variety
of ways. One lesson that would force students to use their creativity is the construction of children's
books. Students are required to write a story and make a children's book for school–aged children in
a grade from K–2 to explain a biological concept discussed in the course. The challenge is to present
the information at the level of the child's grade chosen and to present it in a whole and accurate
manner. Students who have mastered and comprehend the concepts will have no issues in conveying
the information to another person with success. Over the process of the assignment, student will use
techniques suggested by Costa and Kallick that help student develop their creativity and
wonderment. Students will work with their peers to construct mind maps on various biological topic.
This will guide students to ensure they include all the important facts about the topic.

Disadvantages Of Mind Maps
1) Mind Map – A mind map is an outline used to visually sort out data. A mind map is mostly made
around a single theory, drawn as a picture in the focal point of a clear scene page, to which related
representations of plans. Mind maps might be drawn by hand, either as "harsh notes" throughout an
address, gathering or arranging session, for instance, or as higher quality pictures when more of a

Maps In Your Mind Talman
Title and number of article 15: "Maps in Your Mind" Who did the original study? The original study
was conducted by Edward C. Tolman at the University of California at Berkeley in 1948. What are
the reasons the researcher carried out the study? One of the main reasons that Tolman chose to
execute this study was because he wanted to prove that rats could be studied in the same manner as
humans when it came to cognitive processes; Tolman suggested that there was no need to study
these processes directly when the mental processes themselves could be observed through the
behavior of the organism, like how a rat may act when using a cognitive map––a mental layout of
the environment that an organism uses to navigate itself from one destination to another. Identify the

at within the maze––especially Group D––and that within the first 10 days they had spent in the
maze they were actually building a mental representation of the maze, or a cognitive map. In the
"spatial orientation experiment" (Hock 113), the results concluded that the highest number of rats
selected path 6 as their route; path 6 was the route that led almost directly to the location of the food
reward, and this supported the idea that the rats had not only built a cognitive map of the maze, but
could comprehend in which general direction the location of the food reward was in relation to the

As quoted directly from the website (How to teach mind mapping and how to make a mind map) the
authors have listed the following as key benefits when using Mind mapping in the educational
environment.
Mind mapping can
"Help students brainstorm and explore any idea, concept, or problem"
"Facilitate better understanding of relationships and connections between ideas and concepts"
"Make it easy to communicate new ideas and thought processes"
"Allow students to easily recall information"
"Help students take notes and plan tasks"
"Make it easy to organize ideas and concepts"
David Kelly who is the founder of IDEO explains that mind maps allow him to associate freely and
that it is an excellent tool to prompt you to ask questions, exposing relationships between previously

over notes or previous work. The only time I remembered studying was around the time we took our
standardized testing. Looking back, I can't recall ever learning any study skills or strategies. It may
have been that school for me was easy and I had no reason to study. Or I was not challenged
academically to have to study. Nonetheless, soon I would find out the difficulties of navigating
college courses without effective study skills and habits. I fell behind in college early because of my
inability of how to study and what to study for. Just like me, there are many more students that have
never been taught effective study skills and habits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this is where most students as myself struggle with learning new material, because during
review and rehearsals effective study skills come into play.
During the review process new material, new insight and relationships are still connecting with old
memories (Schenck, 2011, p.279). Rehearsal is the stage before the assessment, in which
connections and memories are being strengthened and the ability to retrieve from the memory is
almost instinctive. Effective and Ineffective study skills and strategies play an important role in
getting students from processing new material to the ability to retrieve from the memory instantly.
However, some strategies that we thought were effective are in in fact not effective at all. For
instance, cramming is a popular form of studying. Students usually lock themselves away a few
days leading up to a big test and try to fill their memory with information. This is something I use to
do and my thinking was it would be fresh and easier to remember closer I got to the test. Yet,
cramming simply does not work because our brains do not have the ability to store enough of the
information that would be on a typical exam, in our short term memories. In fact when we cram we
usually aren't providing our bodies with the proper sleep or brain food that would help us succeed.
Another common but ineffective form of studying is re–reading or highlighting material. This is one
of the most popular forms of study and is used throughout high

Book Review Of Mind Maps For Kids By Tony Buzan
Review of Mind Maps for Kids: An Introduction by Tony Buzan Since 1974, Tony Buzan, a
psychology author and educational consultant, has been developing and promoting the concept of
using diagram which representing ideas in colorful branches, keywords, and images. Mind Maps for
Kids: An Introduction, first published in 2003, is his first book written especially for younger
readers aged 7 to 14 years old. Despite writing the book as a guide for parents to help their children,
Buzan writes this colorful work book with step–by–step guidelines and examples for children to use
the book by themselves for learning school subjects, remembering things, and unlocking
imaginations. Buzan introduces the concept of Mind Maps in the first chapter of the book. Starting
with the concept of left and right brain in simple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Buzan also shows that they can create a future planning with Mind Maps in "Your Dream Shop"
section. In the end of the book, Buzan emphasizes to the readers that they can apply the Mind Maps
anytime, anywhere, for everything. He also encourages the readers to share their Mind Maps and the
stories of their success with him: a way to motivate children to explore the ideas in their minds and
be as creative as they can. Mind Maps for Kids: An Introduction is a simply useful book for
students. The easy language Buzan provides in the book makes it easier for young readers to
understand his explanation. The colorful pictures attracts them to take interest in the contents. A 10–
year–old child will likely find this book interesting, not only for the pictures, but also the
"motivational words" Buzan uses to encourage the young readers. For children who have lack of
self–confidence, this book is an enjoyable self–helper as it shows that every person can do
something great if they use this "magic

Improving Study Skills
There are different types of study skills and ways to help you succeed in school, business, or
workplace environment. One way to figure out which skill works best for you is to try them all out.
The study skill that best fit for me is, note taking. Note taking is the practice of writing down
information that is useful and important in an orderly way. In this paper I will explain to you more
about note taking, how I use this study skill, how this skill is helpful to me, how I will use it in
everyday life, what classes I use this study skill in, when I use it while studying, why it is important
to try new study skills, and how it has helped me this week. This study skill is helpful me and to

At no point or time is note taking a bad idea because you never know when you might need to know
that information again. Also it's useful because in high school every class will have a final at the end
of each semester, and for me, I can't remember all of that information for a whole semester, so when
you start studying for the final just take out your notes and then you have all the information you
need. When I am studying note taking will come in handy for the better. It will enable me to look
back at past things that we have learned so I know what a test is over. It will also help me because in
class that there are books for instead of having to get out the book and read it by taking notes all of
the good information is already in your possession. Note taking will give you all the information
you need for a test so all you have to do is put them in flashcards and study. It is important to try
new study skills because you may find that one thing works better for you or multiple of them help
improve your grade. I like to take notes, mostly because of when it comes to taking test it is a lot
easier to study, but doing multiple things at once could improve your grade. An example would be
making flash cards and taking notes, this may make your grade even better so try it and if it helps
keep studying that

Graduation Speech : Becoming A Ninth Grader
Congratulations on becoming a ninth grader! It's indeed a milestone in your life, which you should
be proud of. However, you should also understand that expectations at this stage are higher than
ever. Your teachers will give you more homework with shorter deadlines, and most of the work will
be your responsibility. Do not be anxious, as I will help you with ten good study habits you can form
to make your high school experience awesome! Firstly, know that doing great on tests and exams
requires commitment. This means you have to study in advance for tests, so you fully and
confidently understand the material. The only way for this to become easier is when you make it a
habit. You also have to become more organized and focused on your studies. To achieve more focus,
you should set a specific amount of time to concentrate on just one idea (e.g. 25 minutes to learn
English Literature terms). Our brains can only focus on one thing at a time, so you should be as
productive as possible in a set time.
Similarly, to become more organized, you should write out a specific goal for your study time (e.g.
"within two hours, I will learn the basics of electromagnetics"). Your ability to focus and become
more organized must be developed just as bodybuilders develop muscles at the gym. This way, your
productivity will improve, as your focus sharpens to allow you concentrate only on important points.
Thirdly, you must also devote a specific time to study a specific subject everyday. There

Reflection On Learning Styles
When I took the learning styles inventory survey I actually found out that my learning styles were
visual, applied, verbal, social and pragmatic learning. The most preferred of all of them being visual
learning. I can completely understand why it's that because since I was young I always learned a lot
easier through videos or pictures instead just text. What I learned about this is how visual learners
usually "jot down notes, looks at the book frequently and making flash cards." When I study, I
usually make note cards because it's a quick and easy way of learning and it put your memory to the
test. Now I learned to reorganize lecture notes after class and to take notes during the readings
instead of after the reading. A little more that I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I didn't like it when they showed it to us back then because I believe it was actually effective
because it seemed different than what I normally did. But for me personally I find this method very
time consuming. Yet, I actually find some benefits for it because it causes you to use your brain a
little more trying to connect these ideas together and figure out why it connects with each other. Not
only that but I find it an excellent method for organizing my notes and it was a lot easier to find out
where everything was easily. And lastly as embarrassing as it sounds, it made studying fun. Usually
studying is a bore for me and I usually end up getting tired or distracted then I end up
procrastinating and probably never finish studying anyway.
However, I actually studied for more than hour consecutively which was unusual for me because I
can never find myself staying stuck to my notebook for no more than 45 minutes with getting bored.
I would make the maps into webs and the circle in the middle would be the title of the notes. I would
make the ideas that are connected or associated with each other have similar shapes to each other
instead just circles. Also, to add a little more "creativity" I would also use different color pencils and
markers. Afterwards, I was skeptical about if this method can actually help me do better on the
quizzes we take every Tuesday and Thursday. When I came in contact with the quiz I could
remember what I actually read

The way in which this mind map has assisted me to obtain a greater understanding of the concept is

Essay about The Answer to Academic Success
The Answer to Academic Success
For many years students have been using numerous studying techniques to help them succeed in
their academic careers. Almost every student in the world studies or at least tries to, but the truth is
many of them do not understand the key concepts of doing it effectively. When it comes down to
studying there are three important areas that everyone should practice to get better at and they are
time control, classroom note taking, and textbook studying. In the process analysis essay "Power
Learning" by author Sheila Akers; Akers focuses on those three ways to develop good study skills.

Lastly, write down all examples given by your professor. Succeeding academically means being able
to read and study textbooks. For many students, textbook studying is often the most difficult to
understand. After hours of studying, the textbook becomes difficult to read and understand. Steps to
improving the understanding of textbooks are to first preview the section you are about to read. By
previewing a section a student can get a better understanding of how the information will be
organized. Previewing the title is done first because it is the shortest summary and may give away
the limits of the material that will be covered. Marking is the second step to textbook studying.
Highlight important material at the same time you read through the textbook carefully. Marking is
very beneficial because if a student can always go back and see important highlighted material. Note
taking is the next step, make sure to reread the chapter and write down all important topics and main
ideas. The fourth and final step is to study the notes. When studying notes a student must use the
method of repeating and self–testing. Repeating and self–testing is the answer to effective learning
and one must not just rely on reading their notes. Practicing more of time control, classroom note
taking, and textbook studying will all increase the chance of academic success. Managing your time
effectively will prevent you from letting time pass by. Showing up

Reading is an attempt to absorb the thought of the author and know what the author is conveying
(Leedy 1956). Studying is the interpretation of reading materials. Study habits and skills are
particularly important for college students, whose needs include time management, note taking,
Internet skill, the elimination of distractions, and assigning a high priority to study. . Marcus Credé
and Nathan R. Kuncel (2008) in their research at the University of Albany said that Study habit,
skill, and attitude inventories and constructs were found to rival standardized tests and previous
grades as predictors of academic performance, yielding substantial incremental validity in predicting
academic performance. The meta–analysis examined the construct validity and predictive validity of
10 study skill constructs for college students. They found that study skill inventories and constructs
are largely independent of both high school grades and scores on standardized admissions tests but
moderately related to various personality constructs; these results were inconsistent with previous
theories. Study motivation and study skills exhibit the strongest relationships with both grade point
average and grades in individual classes. They also said that Academic specific anxiety was found to
be an important negative predictor of performance. In addition, significant variation in the validity
of specific inventories is shown. Scores on traditional study habit

How To Obtain Study Skills Essay
Studying skills are a necessity with university and many students tend to not understand how
valuable it is. Studying is when the students sit in an area with all of their necessary belongings and
use numerous strategies to understand the material, instead of memorizing through repetition
(Merkur, 2001, p. 98–99). This requires a lot of dedication and the students should understand that
there is no way of avoiding it because it will reflect on their ability to perform in tests and final
exams. The amount of time that is spent on studying will pay off through the reduction of stress and
they will be relieved (Browne, 1997, p. 22). Also, it will build the confidence of the students, and by
seeing the results that they are expecting will motivate them to continue to study because they will
be able to believe in themselves to achieve their goals (Domenico, 1984, p. 88). Studying skills are
mastered over time. Therefore, it is important to implement studying skills, such as, having an ideal
study area, organization to prevent wasting valuable studying time, and a variety of effective
strategies, in order to make studying productive. Having an ideal study area means that the study
area is a room that provokes each and every soul to study in its stupendous surroundings; it is as
quiet as a library. There are countless quotes and motivational sayings posted here and there all over
the plain, blue walls; on the black, leather chairs; on the polished desks; and in all the unexpected

some broad strategies that appear to deliver great results. Nobody would contend that each subject

joy. We can just wish. Everybody is distinctive, and for a few students, studying and motivation

You must learn what the author 's central idea is, and understand it in your own way. Every
paragraph contains a main idea. The main ideas are perfect for outlining textbooks. Make it a habit
to find the main idea in each paragraph you read. Extracting important details means that you locate
in your reading the basis for main ideas. There is usually one important detail associated with every
main idea. The more important details you can identify, the easier it will be to review for
examinations because you have made a link between an idea and information that supports it. The
more links you can make between details and ideas, as well as ideas themselves, the more powerful
will be the efforts of your study. Therefore, it is important for you to have skills in reading in order
to succeed, whether it 's for a test or just class work. Like perusing, note–taking is an ability which
must be learned and refined. Invariably, note taking, or the absence of it, is a consistent lack in the
study strategies for some high schools and undergrads. Taking in the elements of good note taking is
somewhat simple; applying them to your own circumstance relies on upon how genuine you are
turning into a fruitful student. Therefore, it is important for you to have skills in reading and note–

Why Do We Need A Study?
Many students have pulled an all–nighter, crammed last minute, and drank several cups of coffee in
order to make up for all of the procrastination they have done. Every night when they could study
their minds wander off to other things and come up with excuses not to study. I'm one of them and
every time I hear or think the word "study" I cringe. I don't think I am the only one. Truth is
studying does not have to be such a daunting task. No one needs to pull an all–nighter or cram all of
the information in one night. Ever heard of the expression, "it's not about quantity, but quality?"
Same goes for studying. It's not about how long you study or how often. You can study for five
hours and get nothing out of it if you just sit there and read a textbook. Studying requires well–
developed skills in order for it to be effective. In order for students to be able to study effectively
they need to properly prepare to study, have good note taking skills, and develop a technique in
order to retain all of the information. The first step in order to be able to have a good study session is
to be properly prepared to study. You should have all of the materials that you need ready to go
before you start, "Have all of your study material in front of you: lecture notes, course textbooks,
study guides and any other relevant material," this will prevent you from getting up and wandering
off. This could cause you to lose focus (Study Tips & Study Skills 1). Having all of the material in

Study Skills And Learning Experience
Out of my three semesters this one has been the most interesting, and learning experience. These
fifteen week I have spent in study skills have taught me a lot about college. When I first got to Troy
I was on probation. By the end of the first semester I was off of probation, and I thought I had
everything in hand. But by then end of the second semester last year I put back on at the end of the
year. As I sat down over the summer I had come to a realization that I had no true idea on what it
meant to study or take notes. So this semester I decided to take study skills to help my GPA. And
help me get a better understanding of studying and taking notes in school. During this time I have
found these five things to help me during this semester as follows. The first thing is note taking, then
time for everything, working with your professors, balance log, and study log. The first lesson that
stuck with me would be lesson three on note taking. This lesson was valuable to me for many
reasons. At first I use to try to write down every word I saw on a power point or heard the teacher
say. Also, when I wrote notes I never would go over them and I never really understood what I
wrote or what they meant. But in this lesson I was taught not to write down everything but the things
that are important and that I would see on a test. Also in this lesson I learned that it is always a good
thing to go over your notes and to test yourself on the notes you take. In class we learned that you

Analysis Of Genovus Biotechnologies ( Genovus )
Title
Genovus Biotechnologies (Genovus) is an infant biomedical company, which is currently working
to procure seed A funding. Each member of the Genovus leadership is working to propel the
company into existence while holding other jobs to pay basic life expenses. There is a small budget
for information technology tools such as email, calendar, and videoconference. The Genovus
leadership team needs to decide what information technology options will streamline and simplify
the work for the four–person business. This paper reviews two decision making tools, mind mapping
and decision tree analysis, and how these two tools may help the Genovus leadership team
determine the toolsets needed at this time. Mind mapping is a brainstorming tool. It enables the tool
user to engage with concepts in at a deeper level, thereby encouraging longer lasting learning about
a topic (Davies, 2011). When concepts are complex, the mind mapping process allows linking like
concepts together in a nonlinear model, assisting the user in uncovering dependencies between
concepts. Additionally, the visualization of data facilitates the user's ability to quickly think through
multiple ideas spontaneously (Davies, 2011). The process of mind mapping increases the quantity
and quality of the ideas, while facilitating critical thinking (Luh, Ma, Hsieh, & Huang, 2012). When
performed in a team setting, the visualization, and free flow of thinking bring out a variety of ideas

Critically reflecting on the links between my identity as a learner and relevant processes and
approaches, I feel sketch notes would not improve my own learning and progress. This is because I
feel I would spend too much time on the drawings that I would lose focus on the content. For
example, if I was to use sketch notes during a lecture, I feel I would spend too much time on the
drawings that I may miss information. Also, I am the world's worst drawer therefore when looking
back at my notes I may struggle to recall what I meant by the drawing. However, (Neill, 2015)

For example, according to Buzan, Tony (2006b), one way to enhance mind mapping is to use colour.
This can improve my learning because colours are as exciting to the brain as are images. Colours
also add extra vibrancy and an element of fun to the mind map. By incorporating colours to mind
mapping can enhance my learning and progress. For example, I can write ideas in one colour, thus
for example, if I am revising for an exam, I know each colour will represent a topic. I can also use
other colours to make connections between the topics. Buzan, Tony (2006b) also suggests using an
image or picture as the central idea. This is Because an image is worth a thousand words and helps
the imagination, as a central image is more interesting. This can be used to improve my learning as I
can try to include more pictures on my mind map. As I mentioned before, drawing is not my
strongest I therefore could use symbols instead or find pictures on the internet. This can improve my
learning, through associating a picture with a topic and therefore I may be able to recall the topic
better through such associations. Buzan, Tony (2006b) supports this, as he also states the brain
works by association. It likes to link two (or three, or four) things together. I can use this technique
to improve my learning, by connecting and making links between the breaches (key ideas) on my
mind map.

Study Group Disadvantages
Study, study, study! High school, undergraduate, and graduate school is all about studying for exams
and getting that passing grade to maintain in the program, sports, or have that competitive GPA.
Sometimes the due dates in all the classes can seem overbearing to some people while trying to
balance their classwork, practices, health, and social life. Is there a way to take some of the pressure
off yourself? One simple way to help balance all these things would be starting a study group. A
study groups are formed for the specific purpose of helping students prepare for exams (qtd in Real
Communication 245). Now some people are completely against starting a study group because of
the beliefs of not getting anything done, but let's look at the bright side to study groups. Study
groups have so many benefits you can receive academically such as a solution to procrastination,
new perspectives, and new study skills. Study groups can bring many benefits to us academically
and one of those benefits would be a solution to procrastination. Procrastination is the act of
delaying or postponing something. Instead of falling into the stage of punctuated equilibrium (a
stage in which procrastination and inactivity are followed by burst of inactivity and change), use
your time wisely with a group you can trust to get the assignment and done with together.
Procrastination is a major issue for many students and can be fixed when being focused at the task at
hand. Having a study group will help the students involve by having someone motivate them to get
the assignment done, have new ideas on how to begin a project, etc. According to studies done by
the American Psychological Association, around 80 to 95% of college students procrastinate on their
schoolwork (qtd in Hubbard). Having a study group for a certain class can help with the
procrastination problem. For an example, if a couple of student gather three times a week at a time
that works best for their schedule, and keeps track of how much each other have got done, give
advice on improvement, and help each other understand the lessons, it can be a motivation to
continue improving and reflected better grades in the classroom. Therefore, having a study group

for students. The easy language Tony Buzan uses in the book makes it easier for young readers to
understand his explanation. The colorful pictures attracts them to take interest in the contents. I
remember reading this book when I was about 10 and I was very excited, not only because of the
pictures, but also because of the "motivational words" Tony Buzan uses to encourage the readers.
For the younger me, who had a lack of self–confidence, this book is a good self–helper as it shows
that even I could do something amazing if I used this "magic

Mind Map Analysis
The notion of coping with stress consists of a number of techniques that may or may not help a
particular individual in areas moreso than others. The mind map primarily demonstrates different
ways to relieve stress. Each category in the map outlines methods to cope with stress and is ranked
by levels from most to least significance. The first section of the map is classified as knowledge
because in order to manage stress, the individual requires a positive mindset. Positive thinking is
associated with the category of knowledge and is proved throughout the journal article, A Resilience
Program for Clinical Placement Learning. The authors analyse a study that is conducted by Martin
and Marsh using positive psychology. The researchers ask the ... Show more content on

The reason for this is because being organized provides people with a sense of security as well aids
people to organize how they structure their everyday life. Time management is a central factor that
can relieve stress. An organized schedule allows preparation time for the individual to plan and have
enough time to achieve what they need to accomplish. For instance, in football there is a total of
four quarters and during this period the players have time to complete the game as well incorporate
additional advertisements and commercials. The concept of the four quarters demonstrates time
management as it provides a structure of what needs to be done within that given time. Furthermore,
structure and time management are extremely important when it comes to trying to relieve stress.
This can be displayed through the article, Decreasing Students' Stress through Time Management
Training: An Intervention Study as the study involved undergraduate students that are analysed
before and after a training class that they are told to attend. It is measured through various studies,
one being a scale that see the sights of time management behaviours and how it corresponds to the
perceived stress scale. The test also focuses on procrastination and how it is detrimental to one
ability to learn effectively. It revealed that time management reduces stress as it allows the
individual to

Personal Narrative : The Never Ending Force
Time, the never–ending force that continues to work throughout history. Some student's feel that time
doesn't move fast enough, although when the dreaded Finals come around, many students find that
there isn't enough time for effective studying. My time was running out as dawn quickly
approached. I was sitting on my bed with my laptop as my mother opened the door to my room.
"What are you doing up at this hour?" she questioned me angrily. "You need your sleep for
tomorrow, and staying up all night will only stiffen your chances of getting a good grade on your
test," she lectured.
"It's not just any test mom," I answered in an annoyed voice. "It's the final for my medical
terminology class and there are over ten chapters with an enormous ... Show more content on

"Tell you what, when I attended college, I used to sleep for an hour and wake up for an hour
reviewing and studying my notes, all night long" my mom said comfortingly. "I know that there is a
lot of material to go over, but I want you to sleep right now and we will try my sleep–study method,
so I'll set my alarm clock and come get you up in about an hour," she told me.
Reluctantly, I agreed and I followed my mom's advice, but it turned out that I liked sleep more than I
wanted to study so when she woke me up after about an hour I accepted my fate, and decided that
there was just way too much information to cram in, and because the practicefinal test didn't work I
had no idea what to cram, so I went to sleep, in hopes for some miracle that I don't epically fail.
Morning was a blur, but when I arrived at school my mind fully awake I started to panic. "There's no
way I'm going to pass this final" I fretted to myself, so I did the only logical thing; I quickly emailed
the teacher my dilemma of the faulty practice test. It wasn't until the class started that she emailed
me back staying she fixed the problem. But honestly, it was too late; the proctor gave my class some
quick studying before the final began, I went through it seemed eight or nine practice test trying to
cram last minute, but with my brain

By using Mind Maps, you can quickly identify and understand the structure of a subject. How do I think/feel about this? I thought that mind map was a very useful way to colect notes from the video because it puts the information in order. Manipulating Mind-Mapping Software to Develop Essay Writing Introduction Human race has always had an instinct to express their needs, feelings, and emotions in written forms as well as oral ones. Calkins (1989, p. 3) illustrates that human beings have a deep need to represent their experiences through writing. He mentions that ancient people were fond of writing stories, events, habits, or situations related to them on the walls of caves and temples. It could be said that it is a natural human desire and tendency toward drawing shapes and lines on some material's surfaces. One can observe that young children are driven to leave written marks with pens, pencils, markers, pieces of coal, or even lipsticks on walls, furniture, or bathrooms. Academically speaking, writing is one of the four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whereas the product–based approach deals with writing correct kinds of paragraphs and texts, the process–based approach concentrates on the communicativeness of the written texts. Moreover, the process–based approach is a learner–centered, rather than a language–centered mode. The process of second/foreign language writing, as well as writing in the native language, involves three distinct stages followed by foreign language writers: (a) pre–writing, rehearsing, or the write–based phase, in which the ideas are gathered and generated; (b) drafting, or product–based phase in which the writer composes structures, and reconstructs ideas and (c) revision, or the reader–phase of revision (Leeds, 1996; Richards,1992; Scholes and Comley, 1989). Efforts done for the sake of developing the writing skill/sub–skills serve these three phases. Mind–mapping is located in the first pre– writing phase, where the students are given an opportunity to generate, gather, and arrange ideas related to a given essay (Scarcella & Oxford, 1992). A mind map is a graphic organizer in which major categories radiate from a central idea, and sub–categories are represented as branches of larger branches. According to Buzan (2000) and Howitt (2009) a mind map is a visual tool that can be used to generate ideas, take notes, organize thinking and develop concepts. The British Council ... • 12. Mind Map Analysis I found this activity very interesting because it was more creative than some of our other discussion board assignments. The mind map expanded significantly just from one idea, which shows the strength of the word "Terrorism" and the problems that have occurred because of it. It was interesting to see a collective train of thought amongst many people. I noticed that a lot of people mentioned the countless shootings that have been reported recently in the news. While there were many shootings before this school year, I thought of Parkland while looking at the mind map. One of my classmates graduated from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and is friends with many of the older siblings of the students that died in the shooting. His mother also works at the school, and while she survived without any injuries, it must be terrifying knowing that she was there. This was unfortunately the first time I had a connection to a school shooting – I could not imagine the stress and fear that my peer must have endured. This goes for other places that have had shootings and traumatic events. No one will ever hear the words Columbine, Parkland or Charlottesville without thinking about violence and crime. Going back to the events in Charlottesville, the riots made it slightly difficult to go back to school. I had already completed one year of school and had an overall positive opinion of the city. Hora and Oleson (2017) conducted two surveys in 2017 called the Your First College Year Survey and the College Senior Year Survey. These surveys recorded that there was a decline in the amount of time that students spend studying and doing homework; students spend ten hour or less compared to fourteen hours in 2003 (Babcock & Marks, 2010). They also found that studying is self–regulated, but it is highly shaped by the course design and how it is taught (Hora & Oleson, 2017). Students who are more motivated and believed in their abilities are more likely to possess appropriate study habits and perform better academically. Using a correlational study, Pintrich and De Groot recorded that self–regulation had a significantly positive relationship to academic performance with an r value of .83. 173 seventh and eighth grades from a science class self–reported self–efficacy, self–regulation and academic performance. Academic performance data was recorded using grades from class assignments. Suppressed Darkness On The Medieval Mind Map Suppressed Darkness on the Medieval Mind Map William Manchester's A World Lit Only By Fire: The Medieval Mind and the Renaissance unveils an in– depth look at the Late Medieval Ages in Europe and touches upon the Renaissance. It is most well known as the time period that occurred after the fall of the Roman Empire– when the eastern world seemed to have plummeted into an age of regression and darkness. Manchester's central proposition was "The power of the medieval mind had been irrevocably broken" (295). The dimensions of the medieval mind were cloaked from the outside world and suppressed by the ever– powerful dogmas of the Catholic Church, for there "was no room for doubt; the possibility of skepticism simply did not exist" (20). At the same time, a new "era" was rising in Europe, accompanied by an increasing rate in literacy, new innovations, the printing press, powerful political figures, and the appraisals of the Catholic Church. A new cultural movement began to appear, known as the Renaissance, and the darkness of the medieval mind map was forever shattered, to remain a pale illusion. Humanists, such as Sir Thomas More and Desiderius Erasmus, and inventors and explorers such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Nicolas Copernicus, and Ferdinand Magellan guided the way to a new ideology of independent thinking. Following the campaign of upcoming thinkers, movements, and changes that would turn people's blind eye, Manchester concluded his point with the tale of Magellan's heroic ... While changing places to study can make a college learner keep his mind from burning out. For example, if a student sits in the same chair and works for hours seeing the same thing, "a little procrastination devil," as Newport describes, will lay on the students shoulder making he or she leave without doing any work. Particularly, study at a distant place. Newport, suggests getting drop off at a place far from home to study can benefit a student from leaving or getting distracted from friends or electronics. Newport suggests, "[i]t helps if your location is farther than walking distance from campus [...] arrange to be dropped off and picked up later, or choose a location that takes a while to reach by foot so you won't be tempted to leave right away"(46). The ability to think outside of the box and be innovative with solutions is at the forefront of product development and growing businesses. All students are capable of being ingenious but it needs to be developed (Costa and Kallick, 2008). Teachers must use as many opportunities as possible to allow students to tap into their imagination, using their creative nature when the task requires it (Laureate, 1996e). Lessons should be designed that push students to devise solutions to problems in a variety of ways. One lesson that would force students to use their creativity is the construction of children's books. Students are required to write a story and make a children's book for school–aged children in a grade from K–2 to explain a biological concept discussed in the course. The challenge is to present the information at the level of the child's grade chosen and to present it in a whole and accurate manner. Students who have mastered and comprehend the concepts will have no issues in conveying the information to another person with success. Over the process of the assignment, student will use techniques suggested by Costa and Kallick that help student develop their creativity and wonderment. One of the main reasons that Tolman chose to execute this study was because he wanted to prove that rats could be studied in the same manner as humans when it came to cognitive processes; Tolman suggested that there was no need to study these processes directly when the mental processes themselves could be observed through the behavior of the organism, like how a rat may act when using a cognitive map––a mental layout of the environment that an organism uses to navigate itself from one destination to another. This means you have to study in advance for tests, so you fully and confidently understand the material. The only way for this to become easier is when you make it a habit. For many students, textbook studying is often the most difficult to understand. After hours of studying, the textbook becomes difficult to read and understand. Steps to improving the understanding of textbooks are to first preview the section you are about to read. By previewing a section a student can get a better understanding of how the information will be organized. Previewing the title is done first because it is the shortest summary and may give away the limits of the material that will be covered. Marking is the second step to textbook studying. Highlight important material at the same time you read through the textbook carefully. Marking is very beneficial because if a student can always go back and see important highlighted material. Note taking is the next step, make sure to reread the chapter and write down all important topics and main ideas. The fourth and final step is to study the notes. When studying notes a student must use the method of repeating and self–testing. Repeating and self–testing is the answer to effective learning and one must not just rely on reading their notes. Practicing more of time control, classroom note taking, and textbook studying will all increase the chance of academic success. Managing your time effectively will prevent you from letting time pass by. Showing up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Studying is the interpretation of reading materials. Study habits and skills are particularly important for college students, whose needs include time management, note taking, Internet skill, the elimination of distractions, and assigning a high priority to study. . Marcus Credé and Nathan R. Kuncel (2008) in their research at the University of Albany said that Study habit, skill, and attitude inventories and constructs were found to rival standardized tests and previous grades as predictors of academic performance, yielding substantial incremental validity in predicting academic performance. The meta–analysis examined the construct validity and predictive validity of 10 study skill constructs for college students. They found that study skill inventories and constructs are largely independent of both high school grades and scores on standardized admissions tests but moderately related to various personality constructs; these results were inconsistent with previous theories. Study motivation and study skills exhibit the strongest relationships with both grade point average and grades in individual classes. They also said that Academic specific anxiety was found to

  • 59. How To Obtain Study Skills Essay Studying skills are a necessity with university and many students tend to not understand how valuable it is. Studying is when the students sit in an area with all of their necessary belongings and use numerous strategies to understand the material, instead of memorizing through repetition (Merkur, 2001, p. 98–99). This requires a lot of dedication and the students should understand that there is no way of avoiding it because it will reflect on their ability to perform in tests and final exams. The amount of time that is spent on studying will pay off through the reduction of stress and they will be relieved (Browne, 1997, p. 22). Also, it will build the confidence of the students, and by seeing the results that they are expecting will motivate them to continue to study because they will be able to believe in themselves to achieve their goals (Domenico, 1984, p. 88). Studying skills are mastered over time. Therefore, it is important to implement studying skills, such as, having an ideal study area, organization to prevent wasting valuable studying time, and a variety of effective strategies, in order to make studying productive. Having an ideal study area means that the study area is a room that provokes each and every soul to study in its stupendous surroundings; it is as quiet as a library. There are countless quotes and motivational sayings posted here and there all over the plain, blue walls; on the black, leather chairs; on the polished desks; and in all the unexpected ... There is usually one important detail associated with every main idea. The more important details you can identify, the easier it will be to review for examinations because you have made a link between an idea and information that supports it. • 68. Why Do We Need A Study? Many students have pulled an all–nighter, crammed last minute, and drank several cups of coffee in order to make up for all of the procrastination they have done. Every night when they could study their minds wander off to other things and come up with excuses not to study. I'm one of them and every time I hear or think the word "study" I cringe. I don't think I am the only one. Truth is studying does not have to be such a daunting task. No one needs to pull an all–nighter or cram all of the information in one night. Ever heard of the expression, "it's not about quantity, but quality?" Same goes for studying. It's not about how long you study or how often. You can study for five hours and get nothing out of it if you just sit there and read a textbook. Studying requires well– developed skills in order for it to be effective. In order for students to be able to study effectively they need to properly prepare to study, have good note taking skills, and develop a technique in order to retain all of the information. The first step in order to be able to have a good study session is to be properly prepared to study. You should have all of the materials that you need ready to go before you start, "Have all of your study material in front of you: lecture notes, course textbooks, study guides and any other relevant material," this will prevent you from getting up and wandering off. • 70. Study Skills And Learning Experience Out of my three semesters this one has been the most interesting, and learning experience. These fifteen week I have spent in study skills have taught me a lot about college. When I first got to Troy I was on probation. By the end of the first semester I was off of probation, and I thought I had everything in hand. But by then end of the second semester last year I put back on at the end of the year. As I sat down over the summer I had come to a realization that I had no true idea on what it meant to study or take notes. So this semester I decided to take study skills to help my GPA. And help me get a better understanding of studying and taking notes in school. During this time I have found these five things to help me during this semester as follows. The first thing is note taking, then time for everything, working with your professors, balance log, and study log. The first lesson that stuck with me would be lesson three on note taking. This lesson was valuable to me for many reasons. At first I use to try to write down every word I saw on a power point or heard the teacher say. Also, when I wrote notes I never would go over them and I never really understood what I wrote or what they meant. But in this lesson I was taught not to write down everything but the things that are important and that I would see on a test. Also in this lesson I learned that it is always a good thing to go over your notes and to test yourself on the notes you take. In class we learned that you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Each member of the Genovus leadership is working to propel the company into existence while holding other jobs to pay basic life expenses. There is a small budget for information technology tools such as email, calendar, and videoconference. The Genovus leadership team needs to decide what information technology options will streamline and simplify the work for the four–person business. This paper reviews two decision making tools, mind mapping and decision tree analysis, and how these two tools may help the Genovus leadership team determine the toolsets needed at this time. Mind mapping is a brainstorming tool. It enables the tool user to engage with concepts in at a deeper level, thereby encouraging longer lasting learning about a topic (Davies, 2011). When concepts are complex, the mind mapping process allows linking like concepts together in a nonlinear model, assisting the user in uncovering dependencies between concepts. Additionally, the visualization of data facilitates the user's ability to quickly think through multiple ideas spontaneously (Davies, 2011). The process of mind mapping increases the quantity and quality of the ideas, while facilitating critical thinking (Luh, Ma, Hsieh, & Huang, 2012). When performed in a team setting, the visualization, and free flow of thinking bring out a variety of ideas in a group (Luh et al., ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is because I feel I would spend too much time on the drawings that I would lose focus on the content. For example, if I was to use sketch notes during a lecture, I feel I would spend too much time on the drawings that I may miss information. Also, I am the world's worst drawer therefore when looking back at my notes I may struggle to recall what I meant by the drawing. This can improve my learning because colours are as exciting to the brain as are images. Colours also add extra vibrancy and an element of fun to the mind map. By incorporating colours to mind mapping can enhance my learning and progress. For example, I can write ideas in one colour, thus for example, if I am revising for an exam, I know each colour will represent a topic. I can also use other colours to make connections between the topics. Buzan, Tony (2006b) also suggests using an image or picture as the central idea. This is Because an image is worth a thousand words and helps the imagination, as a central image is more interesting. This can be used to improve my learning as I can try to include more pictures on my mind map. As I mentioned before, drawing is not my strongest I therefore could use symbols instead or find pictures on the internet. This can improve my learning, through associating a picture with a topic and therefore I may be able to recall the topic better through such associations. Buzan, Tony (2006b) supports this, as he also states the brain works by association. It likes to link two (or three, or four) things together. I can use this technique to improve my learning, by connecting and making links between the breaches (key ideas) on my mind map. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. Study Group Disadvantages Study, study, study! High school, undergraduate, and graduate school is all about studying for exams and getting that passing grade to maintain in the program, sports, or have that competitive GPA. Sometimes the due dates in all the classes can seem overbearing to some people while trying to balance their classwork, practices, health, and social life. Is there a way to take some of the pressure off yourself? One simple way to help balance all these things would be starting a study group. A study groups are formed for the specific purpose of helping students prepare for exams (qtd in Real Communication 245). Now some people are completely against starting a study group because of the beliefs of not getting anything done, but let's look at the bright side to study groups. Study groups have so many benefits you can receive academically such as a solution to procrastination, new perspectives, and new study skills. Study groups can bring many benefits to us academically and one of those benefits would be a solution to procrastination. Procrastination is the act of delaying or postponing something. Instead of falling into the stage of punctuated equilibrium (a stage in which procrastination and inactivity are followed by burst of inactivity and change), use your time wisely with a group you can trust to get the assignment and done with together. Procrastination is a major issue for many students and can be fixed when being focused at the task at hand. Having a study group will help the students involve by having someone motivate them to get the assignment done, have new ideas on how to begin a project, etc. According to studies done by the American Psychological Association, around 80 to 95% of college students procrastinate on their schoolwork (qtd in Hubbard). Having a study group for a certain class can help with the procrastination problem. For an example, if a couple of student gather three times a week at a time that works best for their schedule, and keeps track of how much each other have got done, give advice on improvement, and help each other understand the lessons, it can be a motivation to continue improving and reflected better grades in the classroom.
