Pet Ownership In Australia
Introduction
In 2013, Australia has one of the highest rates of pet ownership in the world, with more than 5
million household out of 7.6 million households in Australia owning a pet (Animal Health Alliance,
2013). The most common pet owned by households in Australia are dogs, where an estimated 4.2
million pets in Australia are dogs (Animal Health Alliance, 2013). Due to the high companion
animal ownership rates and the need to attend to the welfare of pets, companion animal veterinary
services are in demand among pet owning households. Pet owners spend approximately $1.7 billion
on veterinary services a year which include visit to the veterinarian for vaccination, general check–
up, dentistry and de–sexing (Animal Health Alliance, 2013). De–sexing a companion animal is
defined as a surgical procedure intended to permanently remove gonads of the pet and is considered
a routine medical procedure that involves visits to a veterinarian (Cocia & Rusu, 2010). The de–
sexing rates are relatively high in Australia, with 78% of dogs de–sexed (Animal Health Alliance,
2013).
The decision to de–sex a dog ultimately depends on the pet owner's ... Show more content on

While previous studies have focused mainly on the attitudes and enabling and disabling factors that
influence the decision of owners in de–sexing their dogs, this is the first study to investigate the
experiences of pet owners in having their dog de–sexed. Moreover, limited studies regarding this
topic has been conducted in Australia. Findings from this study will inform the veterinary profession
regarding client perspectives on having a dog de–sexed. These findings are significant as
veterinarians are considered to be the most important source of information regarding companion
animals hence play a valuable role in educating pet owners (Animal Health Alliance, 2013; Downes

Pet Arthritis
Pets sometimes respond easily to commands of their owner. For example, consider dogs. All it takes
for your dog to do such tricks as playing dead, rolling over, or fetching a stick, is a simple word or
even a couple of claps. However, cats have no use for such a reminder. Even if it's far they can
generally find their goal. It is unfortunate that this pet–human parent relationship is not equal. As
close as we might feel to our pets the bottom line is that the only way they can tell us that they are
feeling bad is through changes in their behavior.
The joint are usually affected in animal as well as human arthritis. The joints of the dog can suffer
'wear and tear' because of normal behavour such as walking, running and jumping. Also, the
appearance of arthritis seems to have a lot to do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That's not to say that you shouldn't pay a visit to your veterinarian if you think your dog is suffering
from arthritis. Frequent visit to the vet will help detect the early onset of things like arthritis. Once it
is diagnosed as being arthritis, this helps to decide what treatment will help alleviate, or even
permanently rid the dog of this condition. Certain types of arthritis that do not get treated right at
once such as hip dysplasia need more invasive types of treatment including surgery; others are easier
to treat using painkillers or other non–invasive treatments such as exercise and nutritional
supplements.
Corticosteroids are also known as NSAIDs, or better known as Non–steroidal anti–Inflammatory
drugs, relieve arthritis pain and can be found over–counter at any local drugstore or supermarket.
Those suffering from arthritis will have to change their lifestyle if they are overweight, as this
weight may burden the joints even more. Arthritic patients have been taking advantage of he dietary
glucosamine supplements offered on the market. Liquid Glucosamine is a dietary supplement which

Therapeutic Pets
I am debating between two different research questions. The first one is, "Are there health benefits
from owning a pet?" and the second one is " How are pets being used for therapeutic needs and is
this reliable?" I have always been interested in animals since I was a little girl. Besides my love for
dance, my affinity for animals is just as great. My ultimate goal is to go to vet school, hopefully at
The University of Florida, and then eventually own my own general practice clinic. My family has
always had some sort of pet in the household as my brother and I were growing up. The pets
include: a Bichon, German Shepard, and a Yorkshire Terrier. Throughout my years of having a pet it
has become apparent to me that I am a much calmer and happier

Pet Overpopulation
Having a bond with an animal is one of the best things you could ever experience in this world. Pets
have been proven to improve your mood and health in many unnoticed ways. Pets help with
loneliness, they help with reducing stress and anxiety, and they can also help increase your exercise.
Having a pet provides you with a companion for life that will show you unconditional love and
affection, if you will show it back. Owning and caring for a pet may even help you live longer. But
where do these pets come from? Pet overpopulation is a topic that generally goes unnoticed unless
you are a pet owner yourself. Every year, millions of cats and dogs are euthanized in local animal
shelters. This is due to the reason that there are more pets out ... Show more content on

Applicants for dog adoptions must have a fenced in yard that is fenced on all sides, or a fenced
kennel area. This rule is based on dogs that do not have access to a fenced in area are much harder to
housebreak and are more likely to escape, roam and become a neighborhood nuisance.
So if you have over 5 acres of land and no neighbors for at least a mile, have lived there for years
and have no young children, because your land is not fenced in you cannot adopt a dog. This rule is
very unfair and causes a lot of dogs to not be adopted. Most people are completely capable of taking
care of a dog but they are denied because they do not have a fenced in yard. Fencing your yard is not
easy and definitely not cheap to do. If someone is willing to spend almost 1,000 dollars to house and
take care of a dog who cares if your yard is fenced in or not.
Of course, the animal shelter rules and regulations are set up to try and stop pets from returning to
the shelter and pet overpopulation but it also makes it a lot harder for a great family to adopt a dog.
A fenced yard nowadays, is pretty hard to come by unless the homeowner has put one in themselves.
A pet should be able to run and roam wherever it wants, and if it is a good pet it will listen and come
right back to you when you call it. There is really no need to have a fenced in yard unless the dog
doesn't listen, then take it out on a leash until

The Analysis : Domestic Pets
PetSmart Analysis Domestic pets have been around for centuries and they continue to squeeze their
way into the hearts of thousands monthly. Organizations like PetSmart aim to provide pet owners
with all stages of life products for their loved four–legged babies. Their vision states "we love pets,
and we believe pets make us better people" (PetSmart.com, n.d., Para 1). Pets are family and
PetSmart ensures that they can offer everything essential to a healthy life for their pet including
medical(in most PetSmarts), hygiene care through their grooming department, training at various
skill levels and even adoption centers and events to help homeless animals find a new family.
PetSmart, originally name PetFood Warehouse, opened its first two store in 1987. PETsMART's
name changed in 1988 while welcoming grooming salons and exotic animal departments into the
business. In 1992 the company welcomed veterinary medicine into their stores and began creating
adoption centers for rescue animals. PetSmart became PetSmart in 2005 when the organization
wanted to break away from the company being a mart and lean more toward smart innovations. The
organization continued to grow adding in training and pet hotels to their organizational plans along
with partnering with other organizations such as Martha Stewart. The organization, since the
beginning, now offers domestic pet products for pets of all sizes along with grooming, training,
veterinary hospitals and boarding facilities all

Pet Grooming
Grooming is an important part of dog care. Depending on the breed, age, and health of the dog,
grooming may be a daily activity. Many breeds require significantly less grooming than this, but
regular grooming helps to ensure the dog is healthy and comfortable.
Pet grooming Is the important part of responsible pet care. Pet Grooming keeps the house Pet
Hygienic and odor free, and controls dander and shedding. Pet Grooming can remove tangles and
loose hair. With regular use of Grooming Products you can actually reduce the chances of your Pet
staying dirty. Owning pets is a big responsibility. Cat and dog owners should take care to groom
their pets properly and train them to be good members of society. Grooming is important not only ...

Services
Pawsitive Pet grooming offers upscale dog owners a place where they can leave their pets while at
work, and away for weekend trips or on vacation. It also offers feeding and exercising, as well as
washing, grooming and low–level veterinary services. The location will be a large lot on the
outskirts of a high–income residential area. Our projections include a heavy rent because of the
location requirements. Customers pay by the day, by the hour, or by the month. Our assumption is
that the average customer generates about Php. 50,000.00 per month.
Market Analysis Summary
The market for Pawsitive Pet grooming is all of the dog owners in the metropolitan area and
surrounding areas of the city. We believe that this is going to be 2/3 of the population, and we have a
goal of gaining a 50% market share. We have a target of a 20% yearly profit increase as the business
continues.
3.1 Target Market Segment Strategy
We have chosen our target market because they own canines and have the ability to afford a service
such as Pawsitive Pet Grooming. We are aware that our service is an extra in life, not a necessity.
We anticipate and expect to cater to the upper–class

This essay explains how I intend to open an independent pet store, Ultimate Pets. Although there are
already several pet stores in my community which are owned and operated by the giant pet super–
store chains, I will position Ultimate Pets in the market so that it can successfully compete with the
established pet super–store chains. As a business in the pet industry, an exotic pet shop offers many
products that a large corporation would, but differentiates in a way with the wide range of animals it
actually carries in stock. Our store does not carry just any products for the care of your exotic pet.
Here at Ultimate Pets we only feature the top brands and products for optimal care. With a helpful

Persuasive Pet Store
Wandering into a pet store; aww you squeal. There a corral full of wriggling cute little puppies
awaits. Expeditiously you hop in and play with the animals. The puppies stampede, falling over one
another to earn a bit of affection. As a result, your body fills with oxytocin, the love hormone.
Directly you envision the love to grant and receive from the cute puppy. Eventually, you are
compelled to bring one home. The sweet smell of puppy breath has intoxicated you. However, I urge
you, not to buy this puppy. When purchased from a store, a profit driven industry that harms
numerous animals receives support. Despite the inconvenience, you should adopt your pet, not buy
it.
Contrary to the convenience of buying from a pet store, finding a pet that fits a family at rescues and
shelters can be time–consuming. Likewise, pet stores are afforded the convenience and offer
immediate gratification by refraining from performing time–consuming activities such as
background checks, applications, or home visits; the only requirement is payment. When purchasing
a pet, a crate empties creating demand for another animal to fill it. Hence, contributing to the misery
of female animals, future puppies and kittens with health issues, and the families ... Show more

Not only did you save your pet, but also, space is created to save another animal. As well, rescued
pets cost less, usually come spayed or neutered, up to date on shots, and microchipped. Likewise,
shelter animals make fantastic pets. They deliver and receive the same love as pet store animals;
they have the same sweet puppy breath, and countless owners surrender the animal due to no fault of
their own. For instance, the human divorced, moved, or lost a job and can no longer care for their
pet. Adopted pets as reported by, The Humane Society of the United States, one in 2.7 million

The Ultimate Pet: A Pet Rock Essay
The Ultimate Pet: A Pet Rock
A pet rock can be as comforting to me as any canine or feline. Some would believe that a man's best
friend is a dog. However, living in a confined two bedroom apartment, I do not have the luxury or
permission for a forty pound dog to be plopping around. This is why I have found comfort in my pet
rock. A pet rock can replace many of the duties, such as a companionship, I can get from a pet dog
or cat.
When I go shopping for a pet, I look for the appropriate size and color to meet my needs. Some
people like big animals, some small. Some animals come in black, brown, white, yellow; yet some
are spotted. The same goes for my rock.
When I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I needed a pet the size of a fat barn cat, like the ones back home in northeast Iowa.
On my walk to the river before I left for college, I found many rocks within my size range. I couldn't
decide which one I should pick, but then on the side of the muddy bank, partly submerged in the
water, lay a shinny, sandy, orange stone. It called out for me to pick it to take home instead of the
others, like a puppy does from a pet store window. When I held the rock in my hands, I knew it was
the one I wanted, and the rock that I needed.
Now as for a name. That was easy. How does one name his cat or dog, bird or fish? Every pet has a
name, so they're not so hard to come with. I picked "Sparky".
Some people may be thinking, "A rock....what kind of a companion can a rock be?" Just
like a cat or dog, it will sit with me and listen to all of my problems and worries. The rock won't talk
back or give unwanted advice. My world feels like a better place after a conversation with my pet
rock. Best of all, he will love you no matter what words or force you put on him. All of ones
anxieties can be released.
A pet rock may have even more advantages than the common pet dog or cat.
There isn't a toilet training process; it won't eat my furniture or shed on my couch. The rock won't

Exotic Pets Are Unique And Unusual Pets
Exotic pets are very rare and unusual pets, that are usually they are some sort of rodent, reptile, or
amphibian. They do not always adjust well to being in a domesticated environment and tend to
evolve and lash out later in life. Most exotic pets are are unique and wild–looking like snakes and
lizards. Exotic pet trade is one of the largest businesses in the world as a result of selling exotic
wildlife in auctions, stores or online and is a multi–billion dollar player in the criminal industry..
Some owners realize quickly that the animal they purchased ,which usually is through a illegal
animal trade, isn't as manageable as they thought. So when that time comes, releasing their pets into
the wild seems the easiest option. But its not, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The owner clearly was not educated in the fact that all non domesticated animals still have their
natural born instincts to attack. The Live Science Staff reported that on average, 76 people are
reported injured or killed by exotic animals a year and since 1990 there has been a reported 2,066
exotic animal accidents(Live Science). Exotic pets can also transmit many diseases that are deadly
to humans. Monkeys are known to carry Herpes B and a source explains,"An estimated 90 percent
of all reptiles carry and shed salmonella in their feces. ...Centers of Disease Control estimates that
93,000 salmonella cases... reported each year in the United States"(Born Free USA). Even the
smallest animals you wouldn 't expect can cause serious damage to human health. For example, the
Live Science Staff states, " ...documented by Born Free involved a 37–year–old man who contracted
the fungal disease blastomycosis after being bitten by his pet kinkajou..."(Live Science). There has
also been dozens of big cat attacks on humans that were mostly to young children.. Wild animals
can attack, spread disease, and their owners are not capable to keep them enclosed to prevent these
things.
Exotic animals can also do major damage on the environment. Most of the damaged caused is by
these animals is do to people, who owned them as pets, just releasing them into the wild once they

Exotic Pet Ownership
Humans should be allowed to do anything that they're capable of doing. Therefore, if humans can
tame/control an exotic animal to satisfy our own needs humans should be able to. It's believed that
the ownership of exotic pets should either be banned, or it should have increased license
requirements to own an exotic pet. The main things that should be considered are: what it restricts,
why not to place restrictions, why restrictions are considered. Getting a license is a precaution
placed in order to ensure that the owner is acceptable to take care of an exotic animal. Someone
looking to own an exotic pet should require a license no matter the state. States should also not ban
the ownership of these exotic pets for that's restrictive on human aspirations. Restricting human
choice shouldn't be acceptable unless a human's choice(s) reduces another's capabilities. Humans are
at a point where nothing is above our species, therefore, if the capabilities of these exotic animals
aren't enough to keep them from us, then humans do whatever they like. Currently, the issue isn't
what it seems. The licences to own exotic pets "vary widely in terms of requirements placed on the
owner and the amount of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the ignorant people looking to own an exotic pet without having the resources to take care of them.
If need be, put an income requirement for people looking to obtain a license to own an exotic pet, if
it's a true desire of theirs to own a pet then they need to use their capabilities to reach the required
income to obtain a license. These pets can be expensive, but they shouldn't be restricted from us as

Pet Humanization
The pet market is booming, in 2017, the Canadian pet care market will see rapid growth. Despite
stagnation in the pet population, this indisputable performance was possible in Canada and was
supported by the pet humanization trend. This trend has led to increased value sales as pet owners or
as they call it, pet parents are increasingly willing to spend more on their pets who they have
deemed members of the family. "The Pet Grooming and Boarding industry has grown considerably
over the past decade thanks to rising pet ownership and changing consumer preferences regarding
pet care. Pet "parents" (i.e. owners) have been purchasing a greater range of high–value services for
their pets, contributing to the industry's revenue gains and overall growth" (Pet grooming &

Should Pets Be Beneficial?
In a lot of families, there are not only parents and kids but also some special family members. They
are pets. According to some historical researches, pets almost appeared with the human beings.
Dogs, cats, birds, horses, fishes and even some dangerous animals like snakes are more and more
popular being pets in some families today. Instead of being assistants of hunting, pets became much
more important to people today. In my opinion, having pets is beneficial to people because it brings
people more fun in daily life, it can improve the relationship of a family, it can help people to make
more friends, and it also can help people to do more exercises.
Having pets can bring more fun. Although animals are not as smart as human beings, most of them
still have their own languages, behaviors and moods to show what they feel. People who have pets
always believe that their pets can communicate with them by different ways. So taking care of pets
brings a lot of special experiences witch are make people happy and optimistic. For example, when
a puppy is taken back home, the lovely poor little thing begins to trust his host. The pet always
wants to stay with his host. He can't talk like a child but he try his best to let his host to pay attention
to him. The puppy licks his host and shakes his tail all the time to show how much he love his host.
When the host meet the lovely puppy after a crazy busy workday, he will be happy. It can be a
different love from people. In most time,

are obviously very popular pets, but we should all know that millions of dogs go into shelters every
year and most of them must be put down due to not finding a home. This is caused by
overpopulation of dogs from individuals meaning to buy their dogs from breeders instead of
shelters. Puppies bought from breeders are not spayed or neutered and this leads to the reproduction

Should Pets Be A Better Than Pets?
According to the humane society in 2012 62% of American households have at least one pet. Pets
are huge contributors to society, whether people notice it or not. They contribute by allowing their
owners to live a better quality life. Pets can help with many aspects of mental health, physical health
and even socially. It is no wonder why over half of the population has a least one pet. Yet there is
still many people missing out on the marvelous experience of caring for a pet and also getting
returns. Many people don't realize that pets not only bring joy to humans, but can change a person's
day to day life style for the better.
Some of the ways pets positively affect humans mentally and emotionally is by giving unconditional
companionship to their owners. We've all heard people say that no one is ever happier to you see
when you come home than your pet... This can make people feel desired, appreciated and overall
like they are needed. Pets have also been found to reduce stress, anxiety and overall make a person
feel calmer. A short–term study in a laboratory setting with college students found that petting a
friendly dog lowered not only their blood pressure and heart rate but also their anxiety level
(Schellenber). In addition, people who own pets are less likely of falling into depression in
comparison to people without pets. For those that do fall into depression a pet can play a huge part
in helping a person get out of that state of mind. Pets can "bring pleasure and help

Pet therapy can be dated as far back as prehistory time when humans noticed that animals were not
only used for food, but they were also friends and companions. Animal–facilitated therapy is one of
the newer forms of medicine used throughout the nation. The origin of animal–facilitated therapy
can be traced as far back as 18th century. The York Retreat, founded in 1792 by the Quaker
merchant William Tuke, was cited to be the first use of animal–facilitated therapy. Instead of harsh
forms of treatment, the York Retreat emphasized positive means to control behavior. Animals could
be found all over the retreat, and the patients were encouraged to learn to care after them. The York

Communication with people increases mental stimulation. Other things that have been shown to
increase mental stimulation include recalled memories and entertainment that is provided by
animals. In atmospheres that feel depression or like an institution, just the presence of animals can
make it seem much brighter. Additionally, animals increase amusement, laughter, and play for the
individuals around them. These distractions from their current situation can decrease their feelings
of isolation or alienation that go along with their situation (Holistic Online, 2007).

Pet Food Recall Of Pet Pets
I remember the first night the news announced the pet food recall. I jumped up and got online
quickly to make sure the food I feed my pets was not on the list. Thank goodness it wasn 't. But that
doesn 't mean that I don 't still worry about it. I 'm still feeding them the same food, but I am
watching my pets very closely for any abnormal behavior at all. I 'm sure many pet owners are doing
the same. But I did decide I could do one thing for my dogs and that is to make them some dog
biscuits myself. That way, I know what is going into the ingredients and if anything is tainted, it will
make me sick, too. Most of the ingredients for these homemade dog biscuits are items already in my
kitchen. A few years ago, my sister had given me a dog biscuit set. I 've used it a couple of times,
then put it up and forgot about it. Now, I 've pulled it out again. The company 's name is "You Bake

Companion Pet Population
Controlling the Companion Pet Population
There is an alarming amount of stray dogs on the street and the number only increases due to the
fact that these dogs were not fixed. These medical procedures will help control overcrowding in dog
shelters. Since these shelters do not have the space or the funds to care for all of the unwanted dogs
they end up euthanized. All pet owners should be required to spay/neuter their pets unless the owner
applies for breeder rights if the pet is to be breed. Spay/neutering will not only help prevent the
population problems within the shelters but outside as well and it will help prevent these pet from
becoming euthanized.
First, a big issue that rises from the lack of spays and neuters is that it creates an ... Show more

If spaying and neutering became mandatory it would keep the number of unwanted dogs lowered.
Other countries, like the United Kingdom, have a 63% drop in euthanasia rates after implementing
population control methods (Trends in Stray Dog Numbers). The dogs are the ones that are suffering
from the lack of initiative to make this change. They deserve a good loving forever home without
fear of being sentenced to death at a shelter
Even though euthanizing can have its benefits using it to control the dog population should not be an
option. Euthanasia is not all bad in every instance that it is applied. Health issues in dogs that are
clearly suffering and will die shortly can benefit from being euthanized and put out of their misery.
Many dogs get injured past the point where any surgery can mend and those dogs also benefit from
euthanasia.
There are so many negative the arise from the lack of spays and neuters that could be easily fixed by
one law. Enforcing a spay/neuter law can prevent or at least minimize the amount of stray dogs
suffering in the streets that create overcrowded shelters who euthanize these innocent dogs. Make
the change and end the unnecessary killing of these loyal

An animal that would take care of your house when nobody was home and protect the owners from
burglars from breaking in. This movement or trend started forming in recent years. As Cesar Chavez
once quoted, "We need in a special way , to work twice as hard to help people understand that the
animals are fellow creatures , that we must protect and love them as we love ourselves" Animals
today have as much equal rights as family members today. As many more pet parents are adopting
and falling in love with these animals and being able to connect with them on an emotional level,
Pet parents are able to relate and equate animals to human children. Many more couples are finding
themselves with fewer children or not wanting to have the burden of raising actual children. As a
result this trend keeps growing. Another reason that people are starting to see the increasing number
in this trend is some adults are finding themselves with the loneliness, where the children they once
had are moving away. These animals are feeling a void of loneliness. According to a recent survey
done by Stanley Cohen about eighty–one percent of people do not consider themselves to be just a
pet owner, but a pet parent and treating their pets equal to their children.

Pet Therapy
Pet therapy
Throughout the history, animals played very important role in human existence – protection. People
always believe in animal's supernatural power: for example, in Egypt people worshiped cats and
believed in Bastet – a goddess with cat's face who protected people from evil spirits (Mark, 2012).
In present days, many people still believe in animal's supernatural power and think that to have a pet
in the house will help them to keep evil spirits away and keep households safe. Of course, animals
have no supernatural power but for example to have a dog in the house is truly good for protection
like burglary or a cat can keep rodents away. Unfortunately, people do not think of a pet more than

cemeteries on the West Coast is located in the Los Angeles area. It 's long and colorful history make

grounds and were responsible for the passing of the first–ever State law in California to protect pet
cemeteries. In 1986 S.O.P.H.I.E. dedicated the Park in perpetuity. As such, you can be assured your

Pet Work Discussion
There are many pros and cons about bringing the your pet to work discussion. On one side many
people believe benefits of pets in the office would create a less stressful workplace and give many
the chance to work longer hours. Others believe that the possible allergenic properties, sanitary
issues and probable lawsuits will be a nightmare for companies and owners alike. I would like to
bring both arguments to the table and weigh them both out.
I think we can all agree that many workplaces can be stressful at times and having your pet there
would certainly help ease tensions for the owner. Personally i think its a great idea for myself but
would never expect an employer to allow me to do so. The possible advantages to that are not likely

There are certain times we all have the need to rush home to either let our pets out and feed them but
I don"t think that my choosing to get a pet should require employers to pay for my choices. Once I

newspapers down for him. I returned the next day to find that he was so upset with me that he used
the bathroom right in the middle of my bed. Problems like that happen with any pet and we can't
have an office full of them.
That leads me to my next topic on sanitary issues. I'm certainly guilty of feeding my dog table
scraps and in return he stares at me like I'm a steak while I eat anything, friends of mine let their pet
jump in their laps and feed them like a baby. That being said can you imagine a workplace full of
people with similar habits? I certainly can and I don't think I want to work there. Can you imagine

The Role of Pet Meds in Taking Care of your Pet's Health and their Well Being
By pet options
Dec 24, 2011
Taking care of a pet is always an important task because they are just like us, the humans. In
particular, when we have a pet at home, we need to give the basic care and comfort to them. What
you need to do is just organized way of taking care of them. You don't need to toil a lot if you are
systematic in taking care of them. We certainly may need all the necessary pet items when we own a
pet because it needs maximum comfort and care. You cannot just ignore their needs. Moreover, you
don't need to worry a lot about this. When you can avail pet supplies out there in the market at
reasonable rates, why you need to panic? You can have a wonderful time with your pets if you pay
attention on such things.
Keeping all sorts of essential pet meds at home is more than a necessity. You never know when the
pet is going to fall sick. It does not mean that you have to keep all the medication at home; however,
you must have at least all the necessary medications at home. Medications for flea, stomach illness,

As the new year approaches, you should think about resolutions not just for yourself, but you should
also think about resolutions that would benefit your pets. Here are a few new year's resolutions that

#1 Update Or Create An ID For Your Pet
If you don't have an ID for your pet, the start of a New Year is a great time time to invest in a
identification tag for you pet that has their name on it as well as your contact information.
If you pet's identification tag is out of date and contains contact information for you that is no longer
valid, get it updated. That way, if anything every happens to your pet, whomever finds them will be
able to get in touch with you.

#4 Groom Your Pet On A Regular Basis
Finally, make sure that you keep up on your pet's grooming this year.
If you have a dog, sit with it and brush its coat at least once a day. This will only take a few minutes
to do every day and will result in multiple positive benefits. If you brush your dog's coat everyday,
more of their lose fur will end up on their brush instead of around your house. Brushing your dog
everyday should reduce the amount of fur around your house. Additionally, it will help spread the
oils on your dog's skin to their fur, which will help keep their fur looking and feeling healthy.
Finally, its a great way to bond with your dog.
You can also brush your cat as well on a daily basis if they will let you. Many cat's prefer to groom
themselves, but if you start young, your cat should allow you to groom it as well.
Remember grooming extends to your pet's teeth as well. At least once a week, you should brush
your dog or cat's teeth with a toothbrush and toothpaste specifically designed for pets. You can also
stay on top of their dental healthy by providing them with treats and chewy toys that are designed to
specifically combat tarter and keep their teeth

Benefits Of Having A Pet
Many children want pets. For example, dogs, bunnies, hamsters, etc. A pet for children is not only
fun and enjoyable, but 90% of the children between the ages of 3 and 13 indicated benefits to having
a pet. The main arguments that children give when they want a pet are simple things like, they find it
instructive, joyful, and therapeutic to receive unconditional love from their pet. Children often
experience their animal as someone they trust as a friend, but these are not the only advantages.
Various studies have shown that having a pet is good for children's development. In this paper, I will
give six reasons why having a pet is good for children.
1) Emotional support
In children's lives emotions such as anger, fear, and joy are shared with animals. Children can tell
secrets, and feel at ease with their pets, since the pets can't judge or talk to them. The children
experience much support. An animal may also help the child to feel safe when he or she is in an
unfamiliar situation. It also gives a child a sense of security at home, because a dog watches and will
bark an alarm if there is a dangerous situation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another study also showed that the self–image of the child when he/she becomes an adult which
will develop later, has to do with the age at which he/she first comes into contact with a pet.
Therefore, children at the ages of six or during their puberty, having contact with a pet during these
ages will have a positive self–image than those who received their first pet between the ages of six
to ten. Kids can even help at an early age with the care of animals. Accomplish tasks for the care of

Pet Ownership In Australia

  • 1. Pet Ownership In Australia Introduction In 2013, Australia has one of the highest rates of pet ownership in the world, with more than 5 million household out of 7.6 million households in Australia owning a pet (Animal Health Alliance, 2013). The most common pet owned by households in Australia are dogs, where an estimated 4.2 million pets in Australia are dogs (Animal Health Alliance, 2013). Due to the high companion animal ownership rates and the need to attend to the welfare of pets, companion animal veterinary services are in demand among pet owning households. Pet owners spend approximately $1.7 billion on veterinary services a year which include visit to the veterinarian for vaccination, general check– up, dentistry and de–sexing (Animal Health Alliance, 2013). De–sexing a companion animal is defined as a surgical procedure intended to permanently remove gonads of the pet and is considered a routine medical procedure that involves visits to a veterinarian (Cocia & Rusu, 2010). The de– sexing rates are relatively high in Australia, with 78% of dogs de–sexed (Animal Health Alliance, 2013). The decision to de–sex a dog ultimately depends on the pet owner's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While previous studies have focused mainly on the attitudes and enabling and disabling factors that influence the decision of owners in de–sexing their dogs, this is the first study to investigate the experiences of pet owners in having their dog de–sexed. Moreover, limited studies regarding this topic has been conducted in Australia. Findings from this study will inform the veterinary profession regarding client perspectives on having a dog de–sexed. These findings are significant as veterinarians are considered to be the most important source of information regarding companion animals hence play a valuable role in educating pet owners (Animal Health Alliance, 2013; Downes et al, ... • 3. Pet Arthritis Pets sometimes respond easily to commands of their owner. For example, consider dogs. All it takes for your dog to do such tricks as playing dead, rolling over, or fetching a stick, is a simple word or even a couple of claps. However, cats have no use for such a reminder. Even if it's far they can generally find their goal. It is unfortunate that this pet–human parent relationship is not equal. As close as we might feel to our pets the bottom line is that the only way they can tell us that they are feeling bad is through changes in their behavior. The joint are usually affected in animal as well as human arthritis. The joints of the dog can suffer 'wear and tear' because of normal behavour such as walking, running and jumping. Also, the appearance of arthritis seems to have a lot to do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That's not to say that you shouldn't pay a visit to your veterinarian if you think your dog is suffering from arthritis. Frequent visit to the vet will help detect the early onset of things like arthritis. Once it is diagnosed as being arthritis, this helps to decide what treatment will help alleviate, or even permanently rid the dog of this condition. Certain types of arthritis that do not get treated right at once such as hip dysplasia need more invasive types of treatment including surgery; others are easier to treat using painkillers or other non–invasive treatments such as exercise and nutritional supplements. Corticosteroids are also known as NSAIDs, or better known as Non–steroidal anti–Inflammatory drugs, relieve arthritis pain and can be found over–counter at any local drugstore or supermarket. Those suffering from arthritis will have to change their lifestyle if they are overweight, as this weight may burden the joints even more. Arthritic patients have been taking advantage of he dietary glucosamine supplements offered on the market. Liquid Glucosamine is a dietary supplement which contains ... • 5. Therapeutic Pets I am debating between two different research questions. The first one is, "Are there health benefits from owning a pet?" and the second one is " How are pets being used for therapeutic needs and is this reliable?" I have always been interested in animals since I was a little girl. Besides my love for dance, my affinity for animals is just as great. My ultimate goal is to go to vet school, hopefully at The University of Florida, and then eventually own my own general practice clinic. My family has always had some sort of pet in the household as my brother and I were growing up. The pets include: a Bichon, German Shepard, and a Yorkshire Terrier. Throughout my years of having a pet it has become apparent to me that I am a much calmer and happier ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Pet Overpopulation Having a bond with an animal is one of the best things you could ever experience in this world. Pets have been proven to improve your mood and health in many unnoticed ways. Pets help with loneliness, they help with reducing stress and anxiety, and they can also help increase your exercise. Having a pet provides you with a companion for life that will show you unconditional love and affection, if you will show it back. Owning and caring for a pet may even help you live longer. But where do these pets come from? Pet overpopulation is a topic that generally goes unnoticed unless you are a pet owner yourself. Every year, millions of cats and dogs are euthanized in local animal shelters. This is due to the reason that there are more pets out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Applicants for dog adoptions must have a fenced in yard that is fenced on all sides, or a fenced kennel area. This rule is based on dogs that do not have access to a fenced in area are much harder to housebreak and are more likely to escape, roam and become a neighborhood nuisance. So if you have over 5 acres of land and no neighbors for at least a mile, have lived there for years and have no young children, because your land is not fenced in you cannot adopt a dog. This rule is very unfair and causes a lot of dogs to not be adopted. Most people are completely capable of taking care of a dog but they are denied because they do not have a fenced in yard. Fencing your yard is not easy and definitely not cheap to do. If someone is willing to spend almost 1,000 dollars to house and take care of a dog who cares if your yard is fenced in or not. Of course, the animal shelter rules and regulations are set up to try and stop pets from returning to the shelter and pet overpopulation but it also makes it a lot harder for a great family to adopt a dog. A fenced yard nowadays, is pretty hard to come by unless the homeowner has put one in themselves. A pet should be able to run and roam wherever it wants, and if it is a good pet it will listen and come right back to you when you call it. There is really no need to have a fenced in yard unless the dog doesn't listen, then take it out on a leash until ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Analysis : Domestic Pets PetSmart Analysis Domestic pets have been around for centuries and they continue to squeeze their way into the hearts of thousands monthly. Organizations like PetSmart aim to provide pet owners with all stages of life products for their loved four–legged babies. Their vision states "we love pets, and we believe pets make us better people" (PetSmart.com, n.d., Para 1). Pets are family and PetSmart ensures that they can offer everything essential to a healthy life for their pet including medical(in most PetSmarts), hygiene care through their grooming department, training at various skill levels and even adoption centers and events to help homeless animals find a new family. PetSmart, originally name PetFood Warehouse, opened its first two store in 1987. PETsMART's name changed in 1988 while welcoming grooming salons and exotic animal departments into the business. In 1992 the company welcomed veterinary medicine into their stores and began creating adoption centers for rescue animals. PetSmart became PetSmart in 2005 when the organization wanted to break away from the company being a mart and lean more toward smart innovations. The organization continued to grow adding in training and pet hotels to their organizational plans along with partnering with other organizations such as Martha Stewart. The organization, since the beginning, now offers domestic pet products for pets of all sizes along with grooming, training, veterinary hospitals and boarding facilities all ... Services Pawsitive Pet grooming offers upscale dog owners a place where they can leave their pets while at work, and away for weekend trips or on vacation. It also offers feeding and exercising, as well as washing, grooming and low–level veterinary services. The location will be a large lot on the outskirts of a high–income residential area. Our projections include a heavy rent because of the location requirements. Customers pay by the day, by the hour, or by the month. Our assumption is that the average customer generates about Php. 50,000.00 per month. Market Analysis Summary The market for Pawsitive Pet grooming is all of the dog owners in the metropolitan area and surrounding areas of the city. We believe that this is going to be 2/3 of the population, and we have a goal of gaining a 50% market share. We have a target of a 20% yearly profit increase as the business continues. 3.1 Target Market Segment Strategy We have chosen our target market because they own canines and have the ability to afford a service such as Pawsitive Pet Grooming. • 13. Ultimate Pets: How an Independent Pet Shop Competes with... This essay explains how I intend to open an independent pet store, Ultimate Pets. Although there are already several pet stores in my community which are owned and operated by the giant pet super– store chains, I will position Ultimate Pets in the market so that it can successfully compete with the established pet super–store chains. As a business in the pet industry, an exotic pet shop offers many products that a large corporation would, but differentiates in a way with the wide range of animals it actually carries in stock. Our store does not carry just any products for the care of your exotic pet. Here at Ultimate Pets we only feature the top brands and products for optimal care. • 15. Persuasive Pet Store Wandering into a pet store; aww you squeal. There a corral full of wriggling cute little puppies awaits. Expeditiously you hop in and play with the animals. The puppies stampede, falling over one another to earn a bit of affection. As a result, your body fills with oxytocin, the love hormone. Directly you envision the love to grant and receive from the cute puppy. Eventually, you are compelled to bring one home. The sweet smell of puppy breath has intoxicated you. However, I urge you, not to buy this puppy. When purchased from a store, a profit driven industry that harms numerous animals receives support. Despite the inconvenience, you should adopt your pet, not buy it. Contrary to the convenience of buying from a pet store, finding a pet that fits a family at rescues and shelters can be time–consuming. Likewise, pet stores are afforded the convenience and offer immediate gratification by refraining from performing time–consuming activities such as background checks, applications, or home visits; the only requirement is payment. • 17. The Ultimate Pet: A Pet Rock Essay The Ultimate Pet: A Pet Rock A pet rock can be as comforting to me as any canine or feline. Some would believe that a man's best friend is a dog. However, living in a confined two bedroom apartment, I do not have the luxury or permission for a forty pound dog to be plopping around. This is why I have found comfort in my pet rock. A pet rock can replace many of the duties, such as a companionship, I can get from a pet dog or cat. When I go shopping for a pet, I look for the appropriate size and color to meet my needs. Some people like big animals, some small. Some animals come in black, brown, white, yellow; yet some are spotted. The same goes for my rock. When I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I needed a pet the size of a fat barn cat, like the ones back home in northeast Iowa. On my walk to the river before I left for college, I found many rocks within my size range. I couldn't decide which one I should pick, but then on the side of the muddy bank, partly submerged in the water, lay a shinny, sandy, orange stone. It called out for me to pick it to take home instead of the others, like a puppy does from a pet store window. When I held the rock in my hands, I knew it was the one I wanted, and the rock that I needed. Now as for a name. That was easy. How does one name his cat or dog, bird or fish? Every pet has a name, so they're not so hard to come with. I picked "Sparky". Some people may be thinking, "A rock....what kind of a companion can a rock be?" Just like a cat or dog, it will sit with me and listen to all of my problems and worries. The rock won't talk back or give unwanted advice. My world feels like a better place after a conversation with my pet rock. Best of all, he will love you no matter what words or force you put on him. All of ones anxieties can be released. A pet rock may have even more advantages than the common pet dog or cat. There isn't a toilet training process; it won't eat my furniture or shed on my couch. The rock won't beg at ... • 19. Exotic Pets Are Unique And Unusual Pets Exotic pets are very rare and unusual pets, that are usually they are some sort of rodent, reptile, or amphibian. They do not always adjust well to being in a domesticated environment and tend to evolve and lash out later in life. Most exotic pets are are unique and wild–looking like snakes and lizards. Exotic pet trade is one of the largest businesses in the world as a result of selling exotic wildlife in auctions, stores or online and is a multi–billion dollar player in the criminal industry.. The Live Science Staff reported that on average, 76 people are reported injured or killed by exotic animals a year and since 1990 there has been a reported 2,066 exotic animal accidents(Live Science). • 21. Exotic Pet Ownership Humans should be allowed to do anything that they're capable of doing. Therefore, if humans can tame/control an exotic animal to satisfy our own needs humans should be able to. It's believed that the ownership of exotic pets should either be banned, or it should have increased license requirements to own an exotic pet. The main things that should be considered are: what it restricts, why not to place restrictions, why restrictions are considered. Getting a license is a precaution placed in order to ensure that the owner is acceptable to take care of an exotic animal. Someone looking to own an exotic pet should require a license no matter the state. States should also not ban the ownership of these exotic pets for that's restrictive on human aspirations. Restricting human choice shouldn't be acceptable unless a human's choice(s) reduces another's capabilities. Humans are at a point where nothing is above our species, therefore, if the capabilities of these exotic animals aren't enough to keep them from us, then humans do whatever they like. If need be, put an income requirement for people looking to obtain a license to own an exotic pet, if it's a true desire of theirs to own a pet then they need to use their capabilities to reach the required income to obtain a license. • 25. Should Pets Be Beneficial? In a lot of families, there are not only parents and kids but also some special family members. They are pets. According to some historical researches, pets almost appeared with the human beings. Dogs, cats, birds, horses, fishes and even some dangerous animals like snakes are more and more popular being pets in some families today. Instead of being assistants of hunting, pets became much more important to people today. In my opinion, having pets is beneficial to people because it brings people more fun in daily life, it can improve the relationship of a family, it can help people to make more friends, and it also can help people to do more exercises. Having pets can bring more fun. Although animals are not as smart as human beings, most of them still have their own languages, behaviors and moods to show what they feel. People who have pets always believe that their pets can communicate with them by different ways. So taking care of pets brings a lot of special experiences witch are make people happy and optimistic. For example, when a puppy is taken back home, the lovely poor little thing begins to trust his host. The pet always wants to stay with his host. He can't talk like a child but he try his best to let his host to pay attention to him. The puppy licks his host and shakes his tail all the time to show how much he love his host. When the host meet the lovely puppy after a crazy busy workday, he will be happy. It can be a different love from people. In most time, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thank goodness it wasn 't. But that doesn 't mean that I don 't still worry about it. I 'm still feeding them the same food, but I am watching my pets very closely for any abnormal behavior at all. I 'm sure many pet owners are doing the same. But I did decide I could do one thing for my dogs and that is to make them some dog biscuits myself. That way, I know what is going into the ingredients and if anything is tainted, it will make me sick, too. Most of the ingredients for these homemade dog biscuits are items already in my kitchen.
