The novel A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness follows the story of Conor, a 13 year old boy, who encounters a "monster" after he faces nightmares
every night when his mother is diagnosed with cancer. A character in the book that I found interesting was Conor. During the beginning of the book
it shows Conor having a recurring nightmare of his mother falling into a pit, and being eaten by a monster, and these nightmares occur because she

monsters are quite interesting when analyzing what possible motive or outcome was being sought to achieve at the time of their creation. There

Death is a natural occurrence that although subconsciously we all know will happen one day, there is a continuous reluctance to think about it and

difficult to watch your child be strained to handle a parent's responsibility. Leaving Conor's mom feeling as if she is inadequate and failing as his mother
. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness explores the idea of death, its denial, the underlying pressure of the parent–child relationship due to the unfortunate
circumstances. Conor's mom feels as if she is doing an inadequate job and failing him as a mother. By holding back true information of her illness as
a way to compensate her sons' feelings, she does more harm than good. Conor eventually learns that he cannot avoid dealing with death and loss, so
instead of relying on his family to show him how to cope, he uses his dreams and the Monster as his coping mechanism where he finds the truth he
has been looking for. Generally, a family is supposed to be there in times of great need, especially for adolescents. However, the O'Malleys aren't

Patrick Ness' A Monster Calls, is truly inspiring and an emotional novel for audiences that changes ones' perspective towards facing death. Conor's
mother affects the main character of the story (Conor) due to the fact that she has cancer. Conor seems to be maintained and calm since Conors mom
is still alive. Because of her sickness, Conor was reunited with his family once again, but he wishes they would both leave since his father and
grandmother are trying to make him understand that there's a good chance she won't make it. The audience can only understand Conor if they

At this point the reader knows how tight Conor and his moms bond is, Conors mom means everything to Conor, and to have that taken away by

In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee illustrates the corruption of good and evil that is seen within the city of Maycomb. The setting
takes place in southern Alabama,1930, where the Great Depression was affecting the lives of many people. The author supports the theme of the
story by using many characters, such as Boo Radley, as he is seen as a mysterious entity and described as a creature from the childrens of the Finch
