2. Journal One
This is the first day I attended Ms Pang’s class. Ms Pang is the lecturer who teaches
us Social Psychology. Through my daily knowledge, I thought Social Psychology
class is a boring and uninterested lecture class but I was wrong after this lesson. Ms
Pang treated us friendly like her friends and told us about her story to let us
understand more about what are the jobs of a psychologist. After the introduction of
herself, she gave us a short brief of our course outline and assignments. Then she
started her class by distributing us 3 types of surveys because she forgotten her slide
for this lecture due to laptop problem. After we finished our surveys, we submitted
them to Ms Pang. From this lesson, I know that social psychology class doesn’t like
my design visualisation and culture civilisation but is a fun and interesting class.
3. Journal Two
Through this lesson, Ms Pang gave us a lecture about self-concept and asked
us to think 5 important aspects of ourselves such as our gender, feelings, and
experiences to define self-concept of u using “I am ……” After that, Ms Pang divided
us into groups and gave us time to have group discussions about the similar
characteristics or aspects of ourselves. We had to shout out “we are ……” to describe
ourselves. Through these discussions, I learned more about myself because I never
take time to define myself. I felt sense of self is important for our lives because we
tend to see ourselves through senses of self. Other than that, I also knew that actually
there were some course mates in class having same characteristics as me. After that,
Ms Pang wants us to explain our behaviour by giving us questions to answer. She said
that self-explanations are often wrong. Yes, it is true because people today keep
influenced by each other’s and also through media. And that’s all from this lesson
although I didn’t clearly explain about the lesson but I did learned many from Ms
Pang.
4. Journal Three
Ms Pang was giving a lecture about vision in this lesson. What is the vision in our life?
Is it important for us? Yes, it is. Vision is actually the detection of light through our
eyes. In this lesson, Ms Pang showed us the slides which consists of the structure of
eye and let me think back what I learned from the secondary school. There are
different colours which have different effect in our life. This also called the
psychology of colours. There are many affective meanings of colours. For example,
black and grey are bad, yellow are weak and red are active. Ms Pang let me know that
actually red is quite often used by people to attract attention, for example, people use
red to enhance men’s attraction to women and also increases arousal and brain
activity. Other than that, Ms Pang also let us know about the visual system for
example the reversible figure which there is an image but we can see two images in
different ways. Besides that, I also learned what ambiguous stimulas is. For example
what Ms Pang showed us is an image with “1” and “3” but if you see in other way, it
can also be a “B” because they are close to each other. Ms Pang also showed us a
YouTube video about people in white shirts passes the balls with black shirts. She
wanted us to count how many times people in white shirt pass the ball. Some of us
didn’t realize that there was a gorilla passed by when they are passing the ball because
they focusing on those who wear white shirt. That’s called inattentional blindness
which involves the failure to see visible objects because one’s attention is focusing on
elsewhere. At the end of the lesson, Ms Pang showed many fun illusions like Trompe
I’oeil Art. I felt interesting and fun in this lesson because learned a lot of things and
have funs with those illusions.
